A vicious storm strucks Daventry, and on the morning after its passing, Prince Alexander discovers that an omnious black castle from the skies has settled in a local swamp. Soon, reports arrive of black-armored riders, trolls and ogres coming out from inside the mysterious castle, laying waste to the countryside and pillaging nearby farms. Something has to be done and King Graham gathers his greatest knights to council. But during their meeting a black-robed wizard bursts his way into the Great Hall and announces himself as Telgrin, master of the black castle and new king of Daventry. When King Graham protests, the evil wizard steals his soul and leaves his body all but lifeless. Knowing what needs to be done, Prince Alexander desperately sets out on a seemingly impossible quest to save his father's soul and reclaim the kingdom from Telgrin's clutches. He is joined by the young apprentice wizard Cyril, and together they manage to penetrate the mysterious castle and face all of the dangers inside. Ghastly knights, deadly monsters and powerful magic stands united against them, but there are also new friends and allies to find in the most unexpected places... The Floating Castle

 

Book Facts:

This first volume in the King's Quest novelization series features Prince Alexander as the main protagonist.

The story takes place sometime between the end of King's Quest IV and the beginning of King's Quest VI.
Alexander's sister, Princess Rosella, never appears in this book, as she is reportedly visiting the nearby kingdom of Lycathia.
