Cognition is releasing in ONE WEEK! We're pumped and to celebrate, we're giving away Season Passes and copies of the Episode 1 Soundtrack!

With the power of post-cognition, Erica Reed can touch an object and see the past; she uses it to hunt down bad guys for the FBI, but if you had the power to uncover the secrets of the past, what would you use it for?

Post your answer to be entered to win a free Season Pass or a free Episode 1 Soundtrack! Winners will be announced this Saturday at the Hassan & Graham Cognition Halloween Special -- and check out the contests running on our Facebook and Twitter pages as well!

I think I'd be focused on the results of my own decisions, and would try to make small changes and see what would have happened if I fixed some of my mistakes (or at least perceived ones) in my own life.

I would put my efforts to become a respected historian/archaeologist. Then I would be able to gain access to ancient relics, and use my power in order to create incredibly accurate "theories" on many questions that have been unsolvable for centuries!

(Or is there a limit to how far back in time you can see with post-cognition? I haven't really been up-to-date with how Erica's powers work exactly, I have been meaning to find out when I get to enjoy the game...)
There's so many movies/games/books/comics that I don't know where to start!

Well, better start with the classics and work my way forward...

I'm not entering since I backed the project last year, but if I had Erica's powers I would find out who stole the cookies from the cookie jar!

KatieHal

Nabby: not as far as this contest is concerned :) as for in-game, we haven't really touched on that, actually!

I'd debunk major world religions by touching "relics". ;D

I would look back at the pasts of my students and try to find new ways of trying to reach them. I would also try to look back in my own past to remember any techniques past teachers used to help me learn.

Isn't it a bit invasive to do it on people? :P What if there are things they don't want you to know?

Every bit of information helps a teacher including what home life is like. I found out that half of my class lives with one parent and the other is in prison. That will impact a child's learning greatly.

Tribus

I would use post cognition to help everyone predict global disasters and prevent global poverty with wise investments.
King's Quest is the game that changed my life.  In 1984 my parents bought me an IBM PCjr because I loved the King's Quest demo at the store.

I now own a computer service company, and am still an avid gamer.

Though I'm sure it would help you, if it's something they really don't want you to know and you have the ability to know all their childhood trauma just by touching them, isn't that a bit invasive and unfair? They have a right to not have someone know something unless they want them to. :P

People are entitled to have control over their own life, their own bodies, their own trauma and which people know what. It's a very personal thing. :P Especially if they already have trauma, this will be a huge violation of their privacy and their feelings of control. If someone did something you wouldn't morally approve of, surely they have the right to keep that to themselves instead of conforming to your values to avoid judgment? That's the whole idea behind Don't Ask Don't Tell.

Alright, people, if you want to continue the morality conversation, please, take it to another thread. Let's continue the contest here!

I'd probably relive past moments from other people's perspectives. See what was going on, what did I miss.

... That's the whole idea behind Don't Ask Don't Tell.

...but Don't Ask; Don't Tell was repealed. :P

But, see also, my reply to this--let's be honest: the point of psychic powers is the point of psychic fantasy and mind-reader fallacy--ergo--we would all use Erica's powers to stalk people mercilessly (but why would we need facebook then!? my God--it might just be for our... actual... friends then! :O). However, I have to admit a certain temptation to become an archaeologist or at least run my hands over things in museums :P *is a bad person who will likely be jailed*--strangely enough!--for touching things in a museum... not stalking people via psychometry.

I mean, sure, we'd use it for other things... in relation to gaining information... mostly... about people.

Anyway, waltz just took my supposition to its logical conclusion! :o etc.

I'd Probably use it to experience historical events, depending on the flexibility Erica's Power has.
I just wonder how much control she has over that ability?

KatieHal

I think solving cold cases would be pretty cool. We could finally know who's in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier!

Pandiosity: what an excellent question! Play the game and find out. ;)

While cold cases and experiencing history is fine, I won't do that. I'm basically very selfish and hopefully I would be able to prevent the accidental deaths of my family and friends. I lost a very close friend two weeks ago in a surgery after an accident. If I could have touched the surgical bed before her surgery and known she would die there, maybe I would have done something to stop her death. Or maybe my last hug would have revealed the impending accident and I would have not let her go shopping.

WildmanCAL

I would use the power to help people understand history better. Think of what could be learned from historical objects to teach us about he past.
