There isn't really anything to see yet but it does have a forum you could go to.

A word of advice: make sure that something can be seen before you post word about it on other forums. The way you have posted it, can easselly be seen as "spamming" . . .

I hope this project actually turns out successful. I have high hopes for it. MoE has been in need of a remake for a while... And why do you have a filter to change K Q 8 to MoE? It's funny, I have to admit.
Title: Re: King's Quest 8 remake
Post by: tessspoon on September 14, 2008, 04:58:48 PM
Because some forum members *cough*Storm*cough* feel that Moe should never have considered part of the KQ series.
Title: Re: King's Quest 8 remake
Post by: dark-daventry on September 14, 2008, 05:05:28 PM
I kind of agree with that, but only because the game ended up so radically different than it's intentions. It's sad that we can't get the game in it's original intended form. If roberta had had her way with the game, perhaps KQ would still be made commercially today. But MoE really isn't that good of a game, though it does offer quite a lot of quotes and hillarious bugs and easter eggs. In some regards, I suppose Mask when out fairly well. I mean, all of connor's famous quotes ("Lo, what's this, a FEATHER?!" "'Tis Beyond my reach!") are just funny.

I enjoy it for what it is. Although I do agree they alienated the fanbase quite well.  If it actually had a good ending maybe people would like it a little more.

I should probably finish it someday....It is so NOT a KQ game though, not really.

I just found this when I was coming to mention that I'm starting the K Q 8 Project!  That's my site.  ive been posting on other forums trying to get some help with graphics.
look here:

(replace MoE with KQ8) if you want to help animate and re-draw Connor.

expect screenshots if we get good submissions for Connor animations and drawings!

King's Quest 8, replace MoE with the bold letters in your browser.

All because some bloke(s) here decided to force his/their thoughts and believes onto the rest of us . . .

This sounds really promising. Is it going to tie MoE to the other games more and is it going to be more puzzles than action?

well, it won't have much action/ violence/ gore.  the most it will have is click ur sword on someting and it's all automatic and not gory.
it will be close to the original unless people want to change something or add something, they can post on our forum.

I have joined, but I see PirateKingChris' point too. If it is a point and click action game why do a remake?  ??? I guess I wasn't clear in my question, is it going to hold to the original Kings Quest fundamentals of adventrue strategy puzzle game. Or is it going to be a point and click action game?

Or maybe I am just confused?  :P

Sorry.

MoE original was not point and click.  this 1 will be. it will be easier to use and less violent.  many other reasons too but these are the top 2 reasons.  it will be simalar to the original in storyline.

Actually, it's more because the majority of KQ fans do not consider Mask of Eternity to even be a KQ game, much less the 8th in the series.  Instead of continuing to mislead people, we treat MoE as what it is -- a game in its own right.

Personally, I don't really see the point in remaking MoE and keeping the original storyline.  It would be much more enjoyable if you remade it into an adventure game, and connected Connor's character more with the Royal Family of Daventry.  There are plenty of way better action games out there, so I doubt you'd be doing anyone a great disservice by leaving it out.

If people want to call it K.Q8 rather then MoE, then they should be able to do so regardless of what the majority thinks of believes. By doing differently and thus forcing an opinion onto others is a dangerous line of thought . . .

Well the majority of people here don't consider it King's Quest 8, so we call it MOE. That's all Yonkey meant.

im going to have a poll on our forum and maby some other forums if it should stay true to the original or if it should be new storyline

By original do you mean what was written and conceived (Which was hacked down considerably to what MOE became.) or what MOE was at publication?

I think the general consensus of this forum would be to see what was originally written and conceived. (Without the fighting).

I've never played Quest for Glory, but I'd say keep the game as close to Roberta's intentions. If those intentions include combat of some kind, perhaps incorporate a different type of combat system than in the finished product of MoE.

It was an interesting take on combat though. instead of point and click, point and attack lol. but it really was awful. I do admire that they used Olde English when they spoke. That at least made the game playable so I could hear all the funny quotes...
Title: Re: King's Quest 8 remake
Post by: waltzdancing on September 18, 2008, 05:53:13 PM
The old English was a nice touch and my brothers loved when you drink from the fountain in Daventry, near the mill, just to hear him burb. I still don't understand what is so funny. I guess it must be a guy thing.  ;)
Title: Re: King's Quest 8 remake
Post by: dark-daventry on September 19, 2008, 06:27:29 AM
Well to me the things he says kind of make no sense. And the "Tis beyond my reach" line is just awesome to me lol. At one point he says "Lo, what's this? A FEATHER?!". I'd have to replay the game in it's entirety to collect all the quotes. I have saved several games right before quotes that I like. For example, I have a save game right before you meet Azriel Lord of Death. I love that scene, I don't know why lol. Though you have to admit the game has very good music. Sierra should've released a soundtrack in my opinion. But to get back on topic, will this remake include music at all? If so, will it be original music, or music taken from the end product of Mask?

Post by: dark-daventry on September 19, 2008, 10:46:22 AM
Yeah, as a game in general it's pretty good, but in terms of it's relation to King's Quest it's not so good. Though the final version of the game was littered with bugs all over the place... I remember my dad ordered three copies until we just stopped. Then a few years ago we saw a copy in EB Games and we grabbed it It wasn't until recently that I learned of Patches lol... And playing Mask with cheats is actually kind of fun. Have you ever tried it? They have an easter that can only be unlocked by cheating. It's a costume where Connor is in his birthday suit... check it out, it's hilarious...
