Title: Looking for co-designer for new adventure game
Post by: mfortunato on November 11, 2008, 09:56:21 PM
SO YOU WANT TO BE A GAME DESIGNER?  ;D

Hi All - Luke Jensen is working on the story and design to an adventure game in the spirit of Gabriel Knight and Hero's Quest.  Luke and I have known each other for six years.  We became friends after I came on board with TSL (he is one of the original founders).  I have had the privilege of hearing the backstory and descriptions of the main characters.  What Luke has crafted thus far is nothing short of brilliant.  I wish I had the skill to assist Luke with writing this myself.  This is why I'm posting this for him.  I believe very strongly in this project and wish to see it come to fruition.  I will help Luke in any way I can on this project (sound design, artwork, hopefully even voicing the main character :D).  For those of you interested, please read Luke's post below and respond to him.
Thanks.
- Michael

My name is Luke Jensen.  (No, I'm not related to Jane!)  I actually co-founded the project now known as The Silver Lining 8 years ago.  For various reasons, I left the team in 2002 but

I've kept an eye on the project and am very impressed with its progress.

I have continued contributing to the adventure game community.  I write for Adventure Gamers and have assIsted AGDI/Himalaya with some of their projects.  I am working on the story for

what I hope will be the first game in a commercial series, and I'd like some help with it.

I've been working on the game in some fashion since 2002.  It's a fantasy adventure, my answer to King's Quest in a way, but it's much deeper, not unlike Gabriel Knight.  The game's

backstory and basic plot elements have been solidified, but there's still a lot of work to be done before the design is complete.  I'm the kind of person who strongly prefers to work

with others while tackling big projects.  The handful of people I've worked with up to now didn't have much "staying power" for various reasons.  That said, I'm looking for someone to

give me a hand over the next few months to get this thing written and on the way to production.

To make sure this works well, I would like any potential co-designer/writer to:

    * Be extensively familiar with adventure games, especially Sierra series.  King's Quest and Gabriel Knight a huge plus
    * Have a vivid imagination and keen attention to detail
    * Have AOL Instant Messenger and/or MSN Messenger
    * Have extensive writing experience, whether as a hobby or otherwise
    * Have 1-2 hours of free time a week, minimum, to devote to one-on-one collaboration on story design, via chat, for approximately 3 months
    * Check e-mail frequently and reply to messages promptly
    * Preferably live in the US or Canada so that time zone differences are not an issue
    * Be willing to respect the work already done on the project and help extend it into the final story

To learn more about the project, contact me at luke.jensen(at)rocketmail.com.  Looking forward to hearing from you!

Pure torture! :wall:

This is right up my alley, but I have too many commitments to take on any more right now.

I hope the game turns out well! :)

I would also LOVE to help, but I don't think I have the time.  Maybe I could in a few years, but then you will probably have all the help.

I wish I could contribute, but I know very little of programming, and I'm not doing so well in my Game Programming class at school. I do hope the game turns out well though!

He didn't mention programming experience as one of the qualifications. It sounded like he was looking for help filling in the details of the story.

Well, I am good with writing. I've never written for a video game before, but I have been thinking of getting into the industry in some way (though I'm quite far off from even coming close to entering the industry. I'm only in high school after all...). I am not familliar with Gabriel Knight, but I am familiar with King's Quest (now that I think about it, if I'm on this forum, then I must be familiar with King's Quest XD). I'm a bit familliar with Space Quest, but not that much. Though my job and school seriously impedes on free time... Sorry if I'm babbling out loud lol. I tend to ramble occasionally... Do you know if he has an age preferance? I'm not yet 18 (which in my neck of the woods is the legal age for just about everything), so I can't help out on many projects unless I have parental consent, and my parents don't really know about everything I do on the net. And they don't like me talking to strangers...

You can look in Fan Fics under my topic Shivers 3 Light and Darkness Collide if you want to read a good fic I've come up with.

Gah, I read this and then sent an email, not realizing it's from a month and a half ago. Oh well. I'm sure he wouldn't mind some extra help though.
