"Old lamps for new!"
Etheria! With the fairies and the rainbows and all the beautiful flowers! I'd sooooooooooo have that for my background.
Nice work! Now it's my desktop background :)
^ Cool, thanks!
How about one of Daventry itself? With Castle Daventry at the center?
Maybe you could make one of that shot of the whole Green Isles from the end of the new trailer, but add your cool footer to it?
^ I could try that, but the video is very low quality (only 320p), so it would be very pixely as a wallpaper.
I could make it if you want, though. Yes/no?

I've created two new wallpapers! Enjoy!

Eh, if the quality is an issue, it's probably better if you didn't. Although, you could do some sort of border around it... or something. Or maybe going to full screen helps? Though, I doubt it.
You could do it if it'll work out somehow, but if not, I won't really care.
Ok, I made another upon I_am_so_nifty's request.

They are from the backgrounds of the various POStudios.com web pages. :)
Looking good, my friend! ;D
Well I don't know you're getting the backgrounds--copy and paste?--but great job.
Yes, I was just using POS background concept art.

Another batch! Thanks for the encouragement, Haids and Nifty! :)
The first one I created using concept art. The other two are treasures from the old TSL website (pre-Activision C&D) that I downloaded a few years ago.

Keep up the good work!
^ Congrats on your 100th post, Nifty. A Devoted Knight! :)
Thanks! Looks like you've got less than twenty to go before Silly Adventurer!
Ah, becoming a Silly Adventure. I remember it like it was yesterday... oh wait, it was!
And for the sake of getting there faster, I'll respond with an empty comment...yeah. ;D
Loooove these, kindofdoon! (Is there a shorter version of your name?:)) You're doing so awesome!
Thanks, Haids. I really appreciate praise from such an esteemed KQ guru.
You can call me Doon for short. ;D
Aww. ;]
Keep going with your wallpapers! You're helping us Questers get through the waiting! :D
Definitely. I can think of nothing else these days besides TSL!...It's just a great feeling.
Tomorrow I will traverse the internets for more concept art. I'll see what I can find. :futuristic:
Sweet! Looking forward to it.

Yeah, I tend to do that a lot. Like with an, "Oh, cool!" on any new updates or summaries... I mean, everybody already knows it's cool. But there's always that next level to get to...
Here's another based off a TSL wallpaper from the old site. I removed the "KQIX: Every Cloak Has a Silver Lining" title and logo (so as to respect Vivendi and Activision's terms) and gave it the sparkly new TSL logo!
Download Hi-Res: http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/7210/tslalexanderlightningre.jpg
(http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/7210/tslalexanderlightningre.jpg)
Come to think of it, I have a lot of ones on my computer that still say KQIX...
No, Activision! Don't take away my computer, please! It's not like I'm sharing them...
Haha, Nifty. At least our computers' hard drives cannot be ceased and desisted...yet...
It's nice to have a little time capsule of TSL before it was shut down the first time. Good nostalgia...
the KQIX -> TSL thing was from Vivendi, right? not from Activision? so is there any reason why it can not be called KQIX? (other then the fact that it is called TSL for so long so might be best to stay that way)
I doubt Activision would be keen on that. Their policy is probably similar to that of Vivendi's. Besides, the team has finally gotten the project to release phase, and changing anything now (especially something as significant as the title) with regard to interaction with Activision would probably not be a good idea.
Yes, KQIX -> TSL was indeed from Vivendi. I don't know what Activision's opinion was on the name, but I don't think they'll be going back. Especially because of the cool new logo...
Any chance anyone can find that old "courtroom" scene again? That was my wallpaper on my old comp for forever.
I haven't really looked through it yet, but I noticed their old deviantArt account still had artwork in it: http://thesilverlining.deviantart.com/gallery/
I think I have the courtroom scene somewhere. I'll look.

*gasps* Who's that black-cloaked figure in the trial picture? I sure hope it's Shamir Shamazel in disguise, and not some villain...
No problem. I love this picture as well - you can see from the level of love and care that the team has put in. They really seem to care about detail and loyalty to the original KQ games.

If it was Shamir, wouldn't we see the signature gold glint in his eye? Or is that only when he assumes another form?
Hmm, this one was before my time on the team, though I do remember it. I think Shamir is seated off on the right side of the picture, though.
Although even if that guy's eyes were glinting, you wouldn't see with him not facing the viewer. :)
These are great kindofdoon!
So if that's Shamir... then who's in the cloak?
dun, dun, dun!
Shadrack? In the Land of the Green Isles? OH NOES! Turrible!
Thanks, KatieHal. I will continue to make more leading up to July 10 (the best day in human history).
You're right, that's definitely Shamir off to the right. I can't wait to see how TSL will explore Shadrack - he's so open and full of possibility.
Quote from: kindofdoon on June 30, 2010, 11:42:23 AMIf it was Shamir, wouldn't we see the signature gold glint in his eye? Or is that only when he assumes another form?
He has that glint even when he's in his normal form. That's how you know it's him; you see the glint when he's in his genie form and then you see it in all of his other appearances.
I made a new one! And I'm really proud of it!

Ooh! Love that one. :D
Ah-MAZE-ing! I love it, Doon! I'm so excited to see your new ones every day. :)
Thanks, everyone! Btw, I'm going out of state for the next few days, so no updates for a while... :(
Oh no! But what will we do to get our King's Quest fix? To hold us over until the release?
I'll just play KQII in my spare time. (I beat all of the original KQI yesterday.)
You can check out all the pre-release goodies we're posting. :)
Well yeah, there's that. But who knows when the next goodie will be out.
(Will making noise help?)
Well, at least once a day ;)
Well, you did get a summary and a Four Winds article today, for example. :)

Yaaaay! Welcome back, Doon!
New favorite!!!
Wow great wallpapers :) It shows the contrast between the two but in an artful way. I like them a lot :)
Thanks, everyone. I'll see if I can make a few more before the big day...
There's always Etheria...;)
I'd love to do something on Etheria, but in truth I have no idea what that is. I've only played KQVI and small bits of KQI and KQIII.
Also, I have no pictures of it. If you or anyone else can supply some pictures, I'll give it a whirl. :)
Grrr, I just scoured Google and couldn't find any pictures of Etheria! How do I take a screenshot? I could show you in-game.
You could just use the PrintScreen key.
That takes a screenshot?! :o I never knew!
Okay, cool. I'll try to take a screenie of Etheria and get back to you on that one...
Standing by... :futuristic:
I just hit the button and tried to do it, but nothing happened! What am I doing wrong? :(
EDIT: I figured it out. ;D
When you hit the button, it's like you ctrl+c-ed the screen. You have to go to Paint or something and Ctrl+V to get to show up. :)
Thank you, Kelsey! Somehow I knew you would know. :)
It got put in your clipboard. Hit ctrl-v in Paint.
Aww, Kelsey beat me to it. :P
Haids, make sure the colors are correct before you go ahead and post/send it. Some of the old KQ games use different color palettes (16-bit or 256 colors), so the picture can get a bit messed up when you switch color modes back to regular 32-bit.
Thanks anyway, Tess. I appreciate it. :)
Okay, here is a pic of Etheria:

Oh, wow...the colors! I'm assuming this is KQVII?
Anyways, I don't know how I could make a wallpaper out of your screenie, seeing as the resolution is very small.
Are there any TSL screenshots of Etheria? I could try doing a side by side collage like the previous two.
Yep, it's KQ VII. This is my favorite place in the seventh game! (I'm such a girl. :P)
There used to be a screenshot of Graham in TSL, but that was BCD. (Before the Cease and Desist.) I don't know if anyone has it around here.
I'm searching for something on a web archive. I'll see what I can find.

I'll see if I can ha><or that screenshot of Etheria. Do you know if it's the same scene?
I don't remember that exact screen, but if Haids still has KQVII handy, she could probably take a screenshot of any other pic we might find.
I thought I remembered a screen of Graham walking toward that mountain that you wound your way up in Etheria, if anybody knows what I'm talking about...
Yeah, that's the only screen I specifically remember too.

I just found those too. They appear to be preliminary screenshots, back from the time of "KQIX". Still, if Haids could find any matching pictures--which, I don't remember, but who knows?--they might work.
Haha, back when we had still tried to 'update' Graham's outfit and it really just looked like he was wearing bulky jeans, LOL
Nifty, the idea is to juxtapose the image of Etheria from KQVII with one from TSL.
I already have the KQVII picture; now I just need a matching TSL picture now (like in my previous two wallpapers).

Too true!
Well, I don't recall any screenshots of that screen with the rainbows. There are other parts of Etheria, however, so we really just need to match any two we can find...
...But yeah, we should probably keep looking for TSL ones.
Quote from: kindofdoon on July 07, 2010, 01:38:20 PMAre these Etheria? I don't even know... ???
Oh yeah. Those are definitely Etheria.
Oh, sorry Nifty. I see what you mean.
Haids, if you can find the corresponding scenes in KQVII from the TSL screenshots above, I'll get going.
I don't think there are really any corresponding shots. :-\
The image titled "cloudpath.jpg" has a flag that reads "Welcome to the Land of the Wind"...if I read that correctly.
It is possible that the TSL screenshots show an entirely new location? Because I do recall reading that TSL will take place in the Land of the Green Isles.
While we know that most of the game occurs in the Green Isles, there are some indications that Etheria may also be a location. Visiting Etheria has been mentioned, but I'm not sure if it's totally confirmed.
And we must also remember that those two particular screenshots are very early ones, from the days of KQIX, so we can't really know if that location still exists.
And, if we do visit Etheria, we might even be visiting totally new locations, with no revisits of any sorts.
In any case, I can't find any TSL pictures of any Etheria locations in TSL. You could keep looking, but there are also plenty of other screens that you could use with your theme. Maybe the ferry dock or the Magic S'map?
I will take a picture of of the mountain! ;D
Nifty, if you can get me a pic of the map from TSL and KQVI, I will make a wallpaper. I'm currently away from my main computer, so I can't create said pictures.
I have pictures of the dock, but they changed it a bit...it won't be as easy as the two previous. I'll see what I can do.

This is a picture of the mountain that Graham is scaling in TSL. This is it, though a different angle of it. I don't know if you can do anything with it, but here it is. :)

Display Addition Options just beneeth the text box where you type your message, you can attach files with those.
Nifty, point of reference: the map from TSL, though modelled from the magic s'map from KQVI, is not actually the magic s'map.
That's why there's a ship and no jingly sound effect when you transport. I just realized that.
Oh, the map is SO much better than that now. :)

Ok, I just downloaded EVERYTHING you posted, Doon. And I read the WHOLE thread. I must say, VERY good job! You, sir, are EXTREMELY talented! You've got more skill than me in photoshop! Awesome! Thank you kindofdoon!
This reminds me. I still have the old wallpapers from 2005 with Graham, Valanice, and co. Unfortunately they're in 800x600 and it has *cough*KQIX*cough* on it.

You might not even notice at this reduced size, but the left side is KQVI, and the right side is TSL.
I went for a no-seam approach this time. Unfortunately the sky colors didn't match (in retrospect, I should have made the sky gradient zone larger), and the paths were shaped differently, but I tried to get the two images to match up through heavy modifications.
Both look great! Amazed at how well you put the two garden images together! :D
