Title: [NOT-FIXED]TSL Saving Configuration Fails (Category: Install/Setup)
Post by: jmolesworth on July 14, 2010, 06:52:52 AM
I downloaded the game today, and am struggling with "Accept"ing the Configuration settings.  When I click on "Accept" I get an error message stating "Failed to write settings file".  I've downloaded the Patch for Windows, and am running the computer and configuration program in "Administration" Mode.  Is anyone aware, or able to help me with this problem.  If there isn't a solution, can I manually edit the configuration file?

Just being logged into the computer as an administrator doesn't mean you're automatically running every program as an administrator.  You'd still need to go into the compatibility settings for the configuration utility and check the box for "Run this program as an administrator."  If that still doesn't work, try reinstalling The Silver Lining to a non-default directory like C:\TSL or something.

If you're still stuck with anything please post your computer specs as requested in the READ THIS BEFORE POSTING topic.

Also, in Ken's TSL troubleshooting guide this error is addressed.  His first suggestion (installing to a different folder than the default) and running the config tool as administrator did the trick for me.  If you need to do an uninstall/reinstall, then try that.  And when the game finishes installing, clear the checkmark from the "run configuration file" box, click finish and then navigate to the game folder and run the Config tool separately as administrator.
