Title: [NOT-FIXED]Failed to write system files (Category: Install/Setup)
Post by: nataliefaith on September 04, 2010, 12:13:03 AM
Hello I have tried all day to install The Silver Lining and I keep running into this problem: failed to write system files.  This pops up after I click on edit configurations.  Also, when I click on The Silver Lining, the screen goes black for a second then back to my desktop...

Here is my info:
Processor amd athlon (tm) 64x2 dual core processor 3800+ 2.00 ghz
memory (ram) 1022mb
system type 32-bit os
video card generic PnP monitor on 256 mb dedicated video memory 256mb
system video memory 0
Windows Vista

Am I missing something?  I tried to run as administrator but that option is greyed out and not available for me to select.  I am the admin on the computer and I know that, that doesnt mean that its running as that, however; I am not sure how to make that selection available.  I am so confusted I just want to play this game so darn bad!!!!!

Thank you

Can you check and see what version of video driver you have?  Open the Windows Run command and then type in DXDIAG and let that run.  On the display tab of that utility it will tell you the version of driver you have.

Also it'd be helpful to know the make, model, and manufacturer of your computer (like HP Pavilion dv7 or something like that).

You can follow the steps here to ensure that your account does have administrator priveleges on your computer:
