Well, it's hard to ignore that there is a substantial percentage of Alexander fans in the active members list, so I've decided that our Slaveboy, come Prince, come King should have his own thread.
Feel free to discuss ANYTHING about his handsome looks, his actions in game, TSL activity (using the spoiler tag when needed), sharing art, and writing on him.
Oh- and 'The Floating Castle' is about him. If you have any opinions on the official novel, then go for it :) Use spoiler tags for this too if needed. I know I haven't finished it yet ;)

YAY! Alexander got his own thread! I love everything about Alexander; his voice in both KQ6 and TSL are amazing, and he is one smokin hot dude in TSL!
I've always been a pretty big fan of the Alexander character. King's Quest VI is my favorite, which of course most people who play King's Quest would say. But King's Quest III has always been my second favorite. I grew up playing that game (along with King's Quest II) and it was always challenging. All the other computer games I'd played so many times that I could do them with my eyes closed. King's Quest III had more of a challenge, whether it was the timer or that crazy mountain road, or the changing locations that made the re-playability so high. And I never minded the spells. To this day, I can quote all the incantations by memory.
So I think all of that really kind of primed me to like the Alexander character. Plus he's just written as such a stand up guy. He really seems like a likable, nice person. What more could you want in a fictional character?

Spiky hair, apparently. :P
But of course. When you go from slave to king, you got to be stylin'!

Technically he went from slave to prince to slave to prince to king. Sorry, I felt the uncontrollable urge to correct. I'll try to suppress it next time...
I agree- KQ6 is my favorite too :) A lot of that is because of Alexander I admit, but the Green Isles is an awesome place. It inspired me in my stories to have uniqueness in my world. Daventry is so ordinary, Kolymar and Llewdore have macical creatures and wonder, but the Green Isles was something unique to me. Fun, serious, beautiful, and dangerous. There's a lot of culture and diversity there. I also loved that the art pricked up. I still to this day believe that art wise, KQ6 was the pinnacle of all the King's Quest games.
I'm... not a typical fangirl though. Alot of people accuse me as being the same, but when I'm a fan of a storyline, I make fan stories in the world, and shove original characters in it. IF I had a band of merry men, TSL would VERY much be something I'd put full effort into. The reason I like Alexander the most is his story- his tragedy, and overcoming it. I'm a bit of a sucker for a tragic story I guess. One of my characters has a similar story to Alexander- denied his noble right, and his world comes crashing down around him. Prince goes against adversary and fights to make his world and country right again. They put a beauty to him that pixels can't do. I also like that he is honest. I'm an honest person also, and I Find it hard to relate to sarcasm and cruelty. To see a gentleman now days.... It's the biggest reason I loved KQ6 so much. His undying love and passion to free Cassima. IT felt real to me. You don't see that in real people, but it's a quality I'd love if I ever saw it.
That's why I'm a fan of Alexander- cause I love what he represents in a story I also love :) That's not teenybopper crush to me. That's admiration. I don't hold it for many characters.

I went for the looks first, I'm not gonna lie, but after seeing this explanation, I think I have a much deeper appreciation for Alexander than ever before.

Thanks :) I feel that a lot of his fans are like that too, but don't realise it. Luckily, the King's Quest fandom isn't viral like your Narutos, and Bleach etc... fandoms. That's where the 'teenybopper fangirls' come in cause the more louder and younger the fanbase is, the worse a fangirl will become cause they feed off eachother.
I'm into Phoenix Wright, a game made for the DS... heavily into it. Alot of the fans are young, and I can see where people get bitter about it, but because I'm in love with the universe the game is set in, my fan love has moved to fanfic, and writing original stories and characters for the universe. That I'm sure is what the TSL team is doing. Man- if I had a group of friends with the same vision as me I'm SURE that something really worthwhile could come out of the fanbase :)
Anyone seen any Alexander fanart out there that they want to share with us? Put them in spoiler tags so they don't fill up the thread :)

This. I love his look in TSL, but it's really his story in KQIII and TSL that fascinates me. I think I also connected with him in part because I see some of myself in him (quiet, don't talk a lot, like just being on my own a lot of the time).
So yea, my favorite char and definitely looking forward to seeing what happens.
I'm an Alexander fan as well. I've liked KQ 3 and 6 out of the series and those are the ones he's in. He's so noble, brave, quick witted and loyal. how he overcame being a slave and still has his head on straight... that takes on some serious guts.

There are indications in TSL though that he doesn't quite still have his head on straight, aren't there...
Well true. I guess up to TSL he does. Still, I'm eager to see what the writers do with his storyline. I'm sure it will be brilliant.
Me too- I'd like to see what haunts him also- it makes him more human to me :)

Right. A 21st century style in a fantasy era.
And who says that you can't modernize his hair for a fan game? Frankly, the only members of the family with a nice wardrobe are the girls. The men got pretty mundane styling. I'm glad that TSL gave them new looks.

Well, lots of people. But that doesn't really stop it from happening anyway. :) Personally, I liked his slicked back hair.

Still, MI's got a point...it does look a tad out of place.
It probably has something to do with Mannannan. *Bah, can't spell the bloody wizard's name* That second of the second episode scared and shocked me. I about jumped out of my chair when I first experienced it. I wonder how in the world he's a wizard again... we were given the impression the cat spell was permanent.
Someone said in another thread he looks mean in this picture. I like it better than the low-res one. Or maybe it's because I'm biased towards that version of the game. It is the one I grew up with, after all :P

Actually, I always associated the lols with him with the Batman theme song.
Mananananananananan MANANNAN! Manannan... Manannan....
Then I picture him in a mask and cape and totally lose respect for the poor guy. Manannan gets a short straw The only scary thing he gets to do is kill you if you do anything dubious when he's awake :/
Anyone seen any cool fanart of Alexander out there? :) I'm sure people have a metric tone on their hard drive, somewhere
KQ VI was my first, and favorite, KQ game. Got me hooked. I also though Alexander was the bomb. Add on that he's tall, dark, and (incredibly) handsome, a slave-become-Prince-then-King, a dabbler of the magical arts, and very intelligent. No words to explain how much I like him. I'm totally crushing on him.

I NO RITE!! He's so perfect <3 *swoons* He has so many things which are relevant to my interest in male secondary/lead characters. He's played a heavy inspiration in my novel I'm writing in some of my male leads :) Infact- I even mention KQ6 specifically as an influence on my influence map. KQ6 and a few other things hit me off on my romance for medieval fantasy <3 I TOTALLY go for that genre ^^
I love that the image you use is of the two kissing!
:sweetheart:
I fully accredit the KQ series (particularly VI) with starting my fascination with narratives and story-telling, mythology, and classicism. I doubt I would have minored in Classics, visited Rome, or chosen my particular thesis topic if it weren't for KQ VI. It sounds a bit ridiculous and cheesy, but KQ changed my life.

Oh, thank you :) It's an image I drew as a request via my art thread here... What was the prompt... I think it was AAlexander and Cassima having a loving moment together. I was listening tho Chopin's 'Rain Drop' at the time though and it inspired me to draw this, and coloured it in copic :) Her's the full picture

I have such a soft spot for Alexander :3
Don't we all! :smitten:
I think the thing I love most about Alexander is that he's not an obvious hero--at first, at least. He's a humble, good-hearted, lonely slave boy who grows into this amazing man. He rescues his sister, his kingdom, and eventually the love of his life. He's quietly determined and amazingly passionate--and his whole "tortured soul" thing is a total meltable trait! If a guy can be man enough to admit that no, he's not okay all the time, that makes him all the more lovable to me. It's like, "Let me love you! Let me help you!" ;)
The fact that he's very, VERRRRRY attractive is just an added bonus. ;D
Yeah- I think I'd still really like Alexander's character even if he wasn't a handsome Prince :) Other characters I like have the same qualities, but not the looks and I still love their characters :) Gumshoe from Phoenix Wright has similar dedication and passion for those he loves, but he's not handsome- I still wan to leap into the game, and cuddle up to him and his hard done by self cause he's so sweet when he chuckles ^^ I use to play the game where I finished on a question that made Phoenix leave with him happy cause I liked him all happy and cheerful ^^
I'm wondering - what do you fangirls think of AGDI's Gwydion/Alexander?
I didn't really care for the purple or the hair, but I thought the voice actor and the writing was pretty well done.

Never played it. :(
No? Well, it's definitely worth playing!
I need to go play that game. After I have the time to play Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2. And Assassins Creed 2. And some other crap I have laying around.
You know, this is sort of ridiculous. When I was with Telltale, I had the time to dedicate and build Episode 1 and still play games. Now, my play games time has gone somewhere strange and distant!
I'm not sure how to answer this as he has some moments where I go :sweetheart: but over all, his voice actor didn't do it for me which is disappointing cause apparently they were professionals. See, in KQ6 he has this soft sweet voice. I didn't expect him to have that in this game, but I wanted to hear the liberation in his voice, but he didn't really seem to 'gain interest' as the game progressed. He's never seen the world before, yet his voice tone stayed the same as when he was a slave through the whole game. It felt like he had given up on life even when he was free. I might try playing the game again without voices to see if it makes a difference. I loved the art though :)
I agree. Plus a lot of his lines sounded very rushed to me, as if he were reading them off of a script rather than composing them in his head. Now, obviously, he was reading them off of a script, but he's not supposed to sound like he is.
This is true. I'm going to try it it without voice acting. I'll probably find that the words are just fine, it's just the delivery that's the issue :)

Unfortunately Manannan keeps his supply of hair gel locked in the mysterious chest next to the desk in his basement lair.
