Title: Nintendo kicks the crap out of Sony's Welcome Back program
Post by: wilco64256 on July 28, 2011, 03:07:51 PM
So the 3DS is getting a really solid price cut in a couple of weeks, and Nintendo is really showing some love to people who bought it already at the higher price.

I think the Nintendo system pretty much kicks the crap out of Sony and Microsoft.  They may not be the graphical powerhouse, but they have the best games.

Ok, this may make up for the lack of a good starting lineup!

They finally announce GBA games

Metroid Fusion for free? Nice.

Yeah these aren't exactly no-name games they're giving out either.  These are games that will probably be in the upper value levels on the VC to begin with, and they're FUN.  Metroid Fusion is easily one of the best GBA games that ever came out.  What would really be phenomenal?  If at least one (or both) of the Golden Sun games came into play here.

I read this on Joystiq and neary shat myself. I stared at the screen for a couple of minutes in pure disbelief. I'm shocked (in a good way) that they're doing this. I plan on taking full advantage of this.

I still would like to see a better lineup of titles for the 3DS. All I see are remakes, and I can't fake enthusiasm. I'd like to get the 3DS, but I don't want to just sit on it until better games come out. I'll wait a little while longer. A price cut is a good start, games would be better though. It's cool that they are compensating for the consumers who bought it before the price cut. It shows that they are dedicated.

Many of the original DS early titles were remakes as well, during its first year. I don't supose we'll see some of the original offerings until the 2nd or 3rd year.

It's actually one of the reasons I was sort of leary about adopting into the system too early.

It seems like a great system, I just don't know if it'd be worth getting it now if I can get it later for a cheaper price and with a better selection of games. The Virtual Console is a great addition though. It's one of the reasons why I'm still holding onto my Wii.

I'd like to see a shared virtual console. Basically be able to play all the virtual consoles games on wii or 3ds. Have access to it on two systems at any given time.

Like how you can use the games on the playstation store in both PSP or PS3.

This is actually a really good point - the way that Nintendo has you buy games is a bit annoying, the result is that they're locked to that system and can't ever be downloaded on another.  If that system tanks you're basically screwed.  One thing that might work (dunno, can't try it myself as I don't have two 3DS systems) would be to put the games on the SD card and then just stick that card in another system.

If that worked, people would already be transferring their games on the Wii to another using SD cards.

Nintendo was promising some kind of limited transfer from DSi to 3DS or 3DS to future upgrades for those that trade up, but I don't know if they ever went through with that.

I might have to start putting my VC games on an SD card, because there's no way I'm going to lose my Super Metroid save. I'll try it out and see if I can transfer my VC games to my friend's Wii, and then I'll try it out on my friend's 3DS.

It won't work, because the files themselves are hardlocked to your system!

Only way it would be possible is if nintendo changed their policy and file systems.

Nintendo only helped one guy out who had his system stolen, and that's only because he was an extremely good customer, who apparently bought everything that was in Nintendo's Wiiware and Virtual Console, and lots of other nintendo equipment.

I'm pretty sure you can transfer save files to different Wii machines through homebrew. Not VC games, though.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can transfer save games or pictures, and the like. You can't just copy anything from the Wii store.

If my VC games are locked to my console, then next-generation is going to suck.  :-\

Ya, I think that's why Nintendo has said they want to ease up on it, and change something that would allow someone to transfer the games and registration to a new system during upgrades (while blocking it from the previous system).

They have probably regretted there initial decision.

Hmm, apparently one of the patches already implemented the DSi to 3DS game transfers option;

I've tried copying save games across Wii systems via SD card. It doesn't work officially outside homebrew options.
