Title: Story consultant?
Post by: Lambonius on November 02, 2011, 07:07:15 PM
Pardon my ignorance; I missed the online party/chat, but I was just curious--what exactly does "story consultant" mean?  What is the extent of the involvement of Ms. Jensen?  Does "story consultant" mean she's actually penning the tale?  Does it mean she is giving constructive criticism only?  Does it mean she offers and designs puzzle ideas?  This is such a vague term.  Just wondering if you guys could offer any clarification.

Cesar and I will be the designers & writers for the game, but Jane will be reading, reviewing, offering feedback and so forth on everything involved in that. One good example from the chat, someone asked about what kind of rating the game might have as it seems considerably dark (serial killers tend to be!) and Jane I believe mentioned having talked with Cesar recently about what we might to lessen that and make sure there was still some humor, etc, in the game as well.

She will also be playtesting the game and offering direct feedback. Jane's condition was that if we wanted to use her name on the project, she needed to have a good voice in it to make sure it's a project that can be released under her name. This is included in our contract where she asked for a minimum amount of paid hours to ensure she would have enough time to do so.

As of now, she won't be writing the dialog herself, although who knows, that may change a bit as we start working on it. But she's directly involved in reviewing every piece of dialog we have, as well as the overall story, which she already has, and the gameplay elements. She's offered tons of feedback already on things she'd like to see in the game as part of the gameplay mechanics, and has been asking for rework in areas where she feels the story could use enhancing or different approaches. She's extremely detailed, which is awesome. She's going to continue reviewing this weekly as materials are created.

Wow... I had no idea she was that involved.. I can't believe how it must feel to go from the TSL volunteer project to this. Working with an idol.
