Will the pictures of the winners of the first be posted once the second round starts, or will they remain secret until the end of the contest (or maybe even the game's release)?
If any of the pics are posted, I'm pretty sure that the contestants would have to ask for it to be posted(in a similar fashion to the auditions). That would be AFTER the contest moved on without them(and probably wouldn't count the final contestant).
Since I'm unfamiliar with the way the contest is being run, keep in mind, that's MY guess.
Well I personally think it would be cool if the pics of the ones that made it were posted so that the contest would get a "reality TV"-like feel to it, where the people who visited would develop favorites as to who they wanted to win.
EDIT: When the contest moved onto the third round, the backgrounds for the finalists would also be posted.
The winners moving onto the second phase will be posted, along with the runner-ups. The same will happen at the end of the other two phases. 8)
The only thing that won't be revealed is the final product, which is the 3D version of the character. It will be one of the easter eggs in the game. ;D

I'm actually sad some of the costumes didn't quite make it, so we may have a lot coming after the info is officially posted, moving on the second part of the contest is a bit tricky, this is the part when the selected ones have a chance to actually enhace their options to win this and be inmortalized (sp?) in a pc-game.
Good luck to those in advance, you already got our attention... now you have to make us select your concept.
I will try to provide more info in the development of this contest once the info is posted, I must say this was indeed a hard concept to manage as a contest, too many cool stuff to pic, as well as too many factors to consider for the voting and everything else.
I have another idea for this, which you may or may not like, but whatever, I'll say it anyway ;D. Maybe you could have it so the info for the CURRENT round is posted, and then you have forum members vote on their favorite in a poll. Of course, the directors would still vote on them, but the majority of the fan votes = 1 director's vote. Just an idea.
I shall meditate about this thought :)

I think Wisteria made an astonding outfit. Elara also had a cool outfit, but the picture is blurry! :(
Cassiopia probably has my favorite one. I think she's so beautiful and so innocent looking. And just love the ... casual feel of the submission. Sir Bolas has a pretty rockin' costume. The only thing that threw me off for a sec was the thing on his head. But I think that's only cuz the picture's so small, I had to squint a bit. Sepultra is another one that's beautiful, her costume reminded me more of Night Elves from World of Warcraft/Warcraft III (I think because of the big elf ears and green hair color).
And for some of the others... French Maid... again, because of the picture... it looks like there's something in her mouth... or is it me?
And I am floored that Lilliana didn't make it in. She looks great, and has a nice costume. :)
And Marie... a shame we didn't see a head also... because um, everything else, looked uh, real nice. ;]

Pfft, if you enjoy the mask, then cost shouldn't be an issue. You only live once, ya know? Like the outfit I wore for the contest - the shirt and bandana were all a part of a Ren Fair outfit that I have assembled. The dagger is because I collect daggers (ye may recognize it from GLADIATOR, the movie)... have a whole wall of various daggers, and a wall of swords (some from LotR). Sure, they were all expensive... but like I said, ye live once. Might as well buy and enjoy the things that ye can while you can.

Anyway, I went on www.highspots.com looking to see how much wrestling ring costs and I saw you could get custom masks. So that's where that came from.

See, I think it's cool how you came about getting the mask. The whole childhood thing. Always kinda cool to find out where the roots of these ideas come from. :-)
For myself... the costume comes from the Ren Fair. We go to the Ren Fair every year, and we used to rent costumes (which are somewhat costly) and dress up for the Ren Fair. And I finally decided I would make my own, slowly but surly, since we go every year, anyway. So the first piece was the shirt, then the bandana thing. The daggers and swords were something I always collected, being a big fan of fantasy in general (which goes back to the 4th Grade, when my teacher read THE HOBBIT to the class!)
The picture submitted was actually taken before hand, when on the other Sierra forum (www.sierra.com), someone had started a fun thread called "So You Want To Be A Ninja" (or something to that degree). A few posted ninja pictures, then someone posted a pirate one, then the joke about Pirates vs Ninjas came about, then I took a mess of pictures trying to look as Piratey as I could! And that picture was one of them.

Hopefully so, but I get the impression that they will announce it solely to the winner (assuming that no-one starts making wild/false claims that they have won just to spite everyone and set the forum's alight...but we are all mature people are we not?)
Actually there is another phase before the contest is over, so I'm pretty sure they will announce the winners of phase two.
EDIT: I think they said before that the winner and the info of the winner would be posted, the only thing that would not be revealed is the final character model.

I love the cool outifits people came up with for the character contest. My favorite is Wisteria. I have a wisteria vine growing over the lattice work that govers the garbage cans. It's really pretty when it's in bloom.

While I don't think it be a pissin' test, there seems to be something vastly amiss with two having 38 votes a piece, and a scattering of others having between 3 to 8 votes.
That would mean that more than 80 users have voted on this here poll... and I don't mean no foul or harm to the fine crew of KQ9, for they sail a tight ship - but it doesn't even seem that there are 80 regular posters! (While the membership numbers well over 80... I don't usually see 80 different people who swing by the forum... more so to vote on this contest)! :)

What I was referencing was the fact that both Bolas and Cassipoia are like getting people to vote for them who have no idea what the contest is about and who have no real opinions. I made the pissing contest remark because it's more about who can recruit more people than whose character is better which is the whole idea of the contest.
This isn't meant to condemn anyone, personally I find all the finalists to be kick ass characters.
Yeah, considering there's no cheating going on this time, it seems like both Sir Bolas and Cassiopia are equally matched. 8)
But remember, the poll doesn't close until I say so, and I'm expecting a lot more people to be voting in the next few weeks. ;D

Not really a popularity contest because I COULD get tons of people to vote on it if I wanted to but I didn't tell anyone I know about this because I wanted it to be legit.

Anyway perhaps it isn't a pissing contest. I was trying to find a term that fit it well and I thought that fit it best although I can't really think of what I'm actually trying to say. Which is why I disproved the popularity contest term but didn't prove the pissing contest because I'm still searching for the word. :)
I guess what I'm trying to get across is that all of the efforts that are being put forth to recruit people turn this aspect of the contest into something that's not really fun but is more like a pointless excersize.
I'm not really sure what you meant by your second sentence, but hopefully I explained it adequately.
By the way I mean no offense to Bolas or Cassiopia as your efforts in the previous two rounds and probably the third round are awesome.

We must keep the contest fair. :) If Bolas and Cassiopeia are getting friends and family to log on just to vote for them, I would say that' make it more of a popularity contest. But I don't really see it as cheating as long as each person votes only once. People who vote should have a good idea about the game and what the contest is for. I voted for Cassiopeia because I thought her costume was prettiest, and I liked what she had to say in her story of her character. May the best character win! Then again, they are all awesome and creative characters, everyone did a good job.

I agree, that's actually why I didn't send out an e-mail to the 1100+ KQ9 Newsletter subscribers, or promote the voting on other sites. Had I done that, yes it would have been a larger
unbiased sample of people, but then the
nature of the voting would be questionable. People that haven't been following the contest, or even KQ9 would cast votes and base their decision on who knows what. :S
I didn't really expect people to get 40 of their closest friends to vote for them, but they're completely free to do so, especially since it's now impossible to register multiple accounts & cheat. :P It may look a popularity contest right now, but that should change soon. 8)
Also, keep in mind that this poll doesn't determine the overall contest winner. It just represents
one Director's vote in the actual voting process.

The whole reason I suggested this idea was because it would make the contest more fun and exciting in between announcements of who wins. That's why I'm kinda bummed out because it didn't turn out to be too fun.

Popularity Contest usually doesn't have any form of a "recruitment" drive. It's usually: Here's three names, vote on who you think is most popular. A Pissing Contest is: Here's three names, now you three people go out and try to recruit as many people as you can to vote for you.

I disagree.
Recruitment or no, in a popularity contest people vote not for the most popular contestant, but for who they personally like best (or friends with/close to) regardless of the real issues of the contest (skills/platform etc. and in this case, best character).

I don't think that's the point... people recruit others because they genuinely want to win the contest, not just to show who can piss the farthest.
Now, a better example for a pissing contest would be people who make useless posts just to raise their postcounts and show everyone they can post more than them :angel:

One is 5'11" and 112 pounds, the other is 5'7" and 103, and the third is 5'11" and 110 pounds.
That's ridiculously assinine, I have to say. Those aren't ideal weights by any stretch of the imagination and they wouldn't be attractive in a real-world person, whether man or woman.
112 is acceptable, although somewhat thin, for a woman around 5'3". No one with any sense of reality would think that the same weight is appropriate for a woman eight inches taller. Case in point: I'm 5'3" and my weight range is about 125-145. A person with a small bone structure should aim for the lower end, a person with a large bone structure for the higher end.
That just blows my mind, really. Says a lot about society when women think that looking like an uncooked spaghetti stick is attractive. Or is it just that the women who designed those profiles have no conception of weight concepts and just aimed for low numbers thinking that they would sound better?

Um. I didn't say that society drew those pictures. I know that those photos were created by the same people who drew up the profiles. That doesn't make it any less ridiculous to put forth 112 or 110 as the weight of a woman standing one inch shy of six feet. I thought it would be obvious that I was referring to the societal attitudes that give rise to the unrealistic notions of height/weight ratios. I don't think these women would have put down such drastically unrealistic, low numbers for such tall women if they were unaffected by society's "lower is better" mentality regarding scale numbers.

I knew that, but again, it doesn't make it any less appalling or ridiculous. If the 3D model designers need height/weight ratio descriptions in order to facilitate their drawings, they're basically being told that these female characters are intended to be the size of chopsticks. It's the same way if the specifics for a character were given as four feet in height with a weight of two hundred pounds. The specs may be given "more to help the 3D modellers design the character from the photo" but they're also indicating how the character should look, and in that case, suggesting that the character be appallingly fat for its size. Which was my point. There's something seriously broken about the attitudes which prompted the profile specs to list such awfully disproportionate ratios--because I would bet money that the women who wrote up those stats did not picture the images in their head as being quite so sickeningly thin as those ratios would actually be.
Hey, it's just a game! Anyway, I'm a male (and males usually weigh more) and I weigh ~117 pounds and am ~6 feet. I'll admit that I'm only 18, but still I think that ~110 is acceptable.

Exactly. Who cares if they're 15 pounds lighter than average or not? Elves are usually thin anyway to be agile, and witches are light enough to fly on brooms. And if you ever asked a goddess how much she weighs, you probably wouldn't even live to tell it. ;-D
You're forgetting the whole point of this contest is to be in the game, not real life. Stop thinking about what's realistic in our society, and start thinking about what's realistic in theirs. 8)

Wait a tick... if KQ9 is just around the corner from being released... the creators MUST know who won this contest already... or else... how would the game be released without the winner being in the game itself?
Or...they know how long it will take to include the person in the game, so they have taken it into account with the announcement of the release date.
Or they already voted on the charactors and the result was so unanimous that the one director's vote from the Charactor Contest Winner poll won't change anything and they're already working on incorporating the charactor. ;D
P.S. If this is not true, how would they incorporate the charactor in as the script is already finished? ???
They could've had the line/lines already written with *insert character contest winner name here* on the script, if the character has a speaking part...or one of the main characters speak to the person who wins the contest. Remember, this game has been in development for quite a while, and I'm sure the writers (Cesar and Katie) already took all of this into account.
I thought about that, but then the lines would have to be pretty flexible and wouldn't really bring out much of the charactors uniqueness, unless they would slightly modify the script.
The winning character will actually add something to the script, but this addition isn't going to affect the storyline or plot in any major way.
