hmmm... there is a lot of talk about movies lately (especially troy) ...so does anyone have a good movie tip?? ...it can be either a new one or an oldie :lovegoggles:
plz post what kind of movies you like and what you recommend ; )
I haven't seen Troy yet, but I'll probably see it soon. :)
But, if you're going to rent a new movie, get The Last Samurai! <3 I saw it at Christmas and it ruled! !!!
idd, the last samurai was good!! ; ) but speaking of such movies i really liked the gladiator ...it is a bit older movie though, but still great :lovegoggles:
btw guess who made the movie theme song... ENYA!! <3 <3 :lovegoggles: ; )
Really? For which movie: Gladiator or The Last Samurai?
Another really nice rental we got last week was Kill Bill! <3 One of these days I have to see Volume Two. I think it might still be in theatres.
I got to goto a Private Showing of Troy before it was released to the public! Great Movie!
Other than that, the new aussies movie, Thunderstruck is funny, and Shrek2 and The Day After Tomorrow looks promising. :)
And guess who gets advanced showings again! :suffer:

......me?? *hopes* ;-D
I saw Troy this weekend, and that was definitely a good movie; the critics can bite me! Eric Bana was especially good, I thought! Go see that with my recommendations. :)
I'm looking forward to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I've already got my ticket for opening day!! :D I <3 Harry Potter.
I'm looking forward to Spider-Man 2! !!! :lovegoggles:
Ooh yeah, that one too!!
Also, my sister said there's gonna be a Catwoman or something with Halle Berry? :lovegoggles: I'm so seeing that one too! !!!
I want to see SW III!! ; )
....I saw starsky and hutch the other day, but that wasn't really a good movie ; \ ...at least not one i would recommend
Let's see, I've already seen Troy...loved it! I so want to see Shrek 2, Spider-man 2, and the third Harry Potter...not to mention the Princess Diaries 2...hmmm, any other sequals I've missed!?!?!

Hahahaha oh god the film looks so cheesy, I can't wait to see it! Halle Berry's no michelle Pfeiffer though :lovegoggles:
*MIAOW!*
KILL BILL 2
I even love the trailer and everything "the bride is back" omg, the first part was so amazing, I cant wait to see second, I am aware that second (as mentioned by magazine reviews) is not to be expected to have so much action, but nonetheless, still a great movie to look foward! :D
Ah the summer movies. Fun, fluffy fare.
The three I am most looking forward to are:
"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" (the 2nd movie was fantastic so I'm hoping the 3rd will be just as good).
"Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" - It just looks so cool and it has a fantastic cast.
"The Day After Tomorrow" - what can I say? I'm a sucker for disaster flicks!
I saw "Van Helsing" and while everyone seems to think it was boring or just plain crap, I loved it! I thought it was so much fun! It is totally over the top and completely silly and that's why I liked it :D!
I haven't seen Kill Bill v.2 yet, but that's on my list as well.
My sister thought the same, Katie. But after watching it the first thing she said was "Is Kill Bill 2 still in theatres!? !!!" So yeah, I highly suggest watching it first. ;D
For 3D animated films, Shrek was great, but my #1 fave is still Finding Nemo. ;P

From what I heard from -fans- its because the anime is SO FREAKING GOOD that the movie pales to compare in reality to what the true scence of Van Helsing is, Im sooo getting the anime ! :D
Same -sort of- happened with Dare Devil and Witchblade (serie) my point is that that are -good- comics hits and such, yet once put on screen (movie or tv) not many worked out as good as Xmen :P
Some fans are very demanding... even more when the original concept IS excellent per se.
Just so everyone knows, well, this mainly applies to the few aussies on here...
Day After Tomorrow = Thursday, 27th May
Harry Potter = Thrusday, 10th June
Shrek2 = Thursday, 17th June.
( I love working in the film indursty! Because I'll get to see all those before anyone else around here does! Woo! :suffer: )
Kill Bill 2 was AWESOME.
Definitely different and "slower" than the first, but still wicked and fun to watch!
Calcium Kid, even if it was only for Orlando Bloom :suffer: ;D
Starship Troopers 2 wasnt as good as the first IMO :-\, have any of you seen Starship Troopers 2 ???
I did, and I agree, it wasnt :-X
I couldn't stand the original Starship Troopers, cringed at the idea of a second, and most assuredly did not go to see it!
Same here... can't believe we bought the DVD :-\
I didn't even know there was a StarShip Troopers 2! LOL!
Maybe it was never released in Australia? Lucky us! ;D
I just saw Kill Bill 2! !!! It was pretty good, but I think I prefer the first one more. ;P

No wonder I didn't know it existed, since it went straight to DVD.
( I work for HOYTS, if it was in cinemas, I would've known. )
i have had work experience at a video store for the past week and i was there when it came in ;), thats the only reason i know about it ;)
Well, Shrek 2 is playing at our downtown theater...thought I'd go tonight...but just found out my friends are having a movie night...so looks like I'll have to shoot for tomorrow night to go!
Well, I also don't have anyone to go to the movies with...especially since I made my WHOLE family mad and disappointed in me last weekend...still haven't heard anything from them today...they're at work...

Do TV series count? If they don't, I'm going to have to start another thread.
lol, there are no specific rules here ; ) ...so you can post tv series if you'd like ;-D
they already made one (http://imdb.com/title/tt0119567/) ...and it's a lousy one i must say ; )
I don't know if it's being broadcasted in the netherlands either. It's on WB on Sunday at about 10:00am, or Monday at 1:00am. They have season 1 and 2 on DVD now, so if you want to see it, you could always buy/rent/import it.
I'm wanting a movie or new season, because they're stuck on a plateau. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!
The Lost World (http://www.lostworldtv.net/)
P.S. They've already made a movie of the book, I want a movie of the series. Although one of the actors from the series was in the movie.
I SAW TROY <3
I SAW VAN HELLSING <3
omg so much joy :D
Day after Tomorrow! WOO!!! Bye Bye America!!!!
I don't go to the movies that much. The last movies I saw in a theatre were Lord Of The Rings :-\ I usually wait for the movies to come to the TV, unless they're really special... and sometimes even then. That's why I'm so out-of-touch :-[
Last movie i saw was Cheaper By the Dozen ;D
last movie i saw was Troy
<whisper>and it was at the most a good movie, but deffinatly not great</whisper>
It is the best movie in the dutch theatres right now ;-D
I really liked troy (and brad pitt too of course lol)
Recently saw "Troy". Didn't mind it, wasn't overwhelmed by it. Kierra Knightly's butt was my favorite part. :D
Saw "Van Helsing" yesterday. That's ten dollars and two hours of my life I'll never get back...:(
Hate to burst your bubble, James, but Keira Knightley wasn't in Troy...at least, not by what I saw...and from what I've just looked up on the internet...

I work for Hoyts cinemas... and I tell everyone the same thing.
"If you love special effects, you'll love Van Helsing, otherwise, don't waste your time." :D
I always gets funny when ppl glorify war or fighting, thus with Troy ; )
Now that you mention it, I do not like war movies :-X they really... just... I dont know, I remember these movies that BlackHawk thingy with Josh Harnet, and that other famous one with Ben Afflec... (see I dont even like them as to the point to freaking forget the real names lol) I did get to see them but personally I didnt like them :(, I do not like war or anything, the only one that I did wow... loved "The Pianist" omg, it was... so... wow... but it was more not from the point of view of the solder itself more like a tragic horrible... moment in history :( Troy was epic, it was amazing, same with other movies such as Gladiator and Ben Hur and such, they do have violence and conflict but there is somehow still that glam element about the gods, the king and stuff, its really the upside of that whole thing. I believe.
The only thing I EVER EVER LIKED about war was Band of Brothers, that serie of HBO, Because I am an HBO FREAK, I love Oz, q**** as a Folk, Band of brother and now I whine desperately cuz I want to see Carnivale and I wont be able to *cries*
OMG I saw the first hour and a bit of Kill Bill V.1 a few dyas ago (yeah yeah a bit late I know) and its just too awesome! DVD's only £6 atm so I might as well pick it up !!!
BIG TOE WIGGLE! BIG TOE WIGGLE! BIG TOE WIGGLE!
Hahahaha love it! <3
I agree Say! the pianist was amazing!! after it ended it was like:

speechless!! really impressing!!, but not a movie I would like to see more often though :-\
My favourite movie about "War" was "Life is Beautiful." Very moving.
"Apocalypse Now" was also good....it was very disturbing.
I also enjoyed Saving Private Ryan. The beginning was so intense and graphic. No glory in that. I now at least partially understand why my Grandfather never talked about WW2. :S
Movies I'm looking forward to is "The Day After Tomorrow" (Out tomorrow...probably see it Sunday), "The Life Aquatic" (I looove Wes Anderson movies!), "Dodgeball" (Ben Stiller, hehehe), "The Terminal" (Saw an ad for it the other day...looks good), "Spiderman 2", and "The Chronicles of Riddick" (probably be stupid, but I'll probably see it anyhow. :D)

I'm hoping the extended version comes out soon. My parents told me that it's my birthday present...if it waits until September to come out, though...not sure if I want to wait that long!

hmmm iirc i read somewhere 'in the summer' but that is pwetty vague ; (
Oh! Almost forgot...got to go see Shrek 2 last night. That movie was awesome. Also, Christine's boyfriend told us that the official release for X3 (X-Men 3) is Summer 2006--poo! But supposedly they're going to make X3 and X4 at the same time (I didn't know that there WAS going to be an X4...just thought there was going to be 3...). Can't wait for that one...just have a couple more years!

Yah, great bit in the credits! XB My parents made me leave soon after that part of the credits so I don't know if there was anything else. ;P
Has anyone seen the Day After Tomorrow? Awesome movie! ;D
lol...gotta love that bit!...As far as I know, there's not anything else...Christine told us to stay...she had already seen it at the downtown theater twice...so I figure the first time, she stayed all the way through.
Cat
i wanted to see the day after tomorrow, it kinda looked cool but i suppose it's just another disaster movie, o well, i might enjoy it ; )
Well, plans got fubar for today, so I'm going to see "The Day After Tomorrow", again ironically tomorrow. :D
The Day After Tomorrow was a good movie, I always love seeying America get completely annihilated!
The only downside was that the entire movie was set in NewYork!
There was 1 tiny sub-plot in England, and about 30 seconds worth in Mexico, but that was about it!
On all the posters etc... there are pictures of Paris, Sydney etc... all being wiped out, but you dont see anything other than NYC! Arghh!!!
So, I would say this movie turned out to be more about NewYork being destroyed, not The Whole World Being Destroyed! a bit dissapointing. :(
Harry Potter 3 comes out on Friday! Unfortunately, I'll be packing and then headed out for a week...so I won't be able to see it for a while...oh well, at least I know it will still be playing when I get back!

Hidalgo at the el-cheapo theatre followed by The Day After Tomorrow at the new theatre. Yay! :D

Yeah, most of those end-of-the-world movies show only the US. But then, The War Of The Worlds was all about the UK... Maybe some people only like to see their own country destroyed :P
so far for nationalism ;-D
It's patriotism, really - "Our country is so great & important! of course the meteorite/tsunami/deadly virus/alien invasion/nuclear bomb is going to hit here!!" :P
I really like japenese movies, Battle Royale is a really good one and suicide club is good too

Hiya! I know I haven't posted in forever...can I be forgiven? Not that anyone noticed, I'm sure. Anywho, movies...I'm a huge movie fan. Which one are we discussing? The Day After Tomorrow? GREAT! Loved it. Harry Potter 3? AWESOME! Adored it. Um...that's all the new ones I've seen recently. I can't wait to see Princess Diaries 2 (i liked the books...sue me).Spiderman 2, Van Helsing, Chronicles of Riddick...I don't have enough time or money to see all the ones I want to. Just saw Miracle...good inspirational...my dad wasn't exactly eager to watch it cuz he watched the actually game. Just saw Timeline, with Paul Walker...good movie. Um, saw Cold Creek Manor...didn't like it.
*forgives*

anyway, I remember you ...and yes, I noticed your absence :-\
I rented Gothika today, nice movie :P
Meh, I guessed the ending about halfway through. :)
I'm probably going to see "Supersize Me" tomorrow, it's a documentary about a dude who eats McDonalds for a month and documents the progress. Should be interesting.
I also hope to see another movie later this week, but that depends on my company.
I wanna rent Scary Movie 3. Seen the first two, wanna see that one.
I want to see super size me so much i just never get around to going to the movies also compared to the other 2 scary movie 3 is a disappoitment.
Of course Brianne comes around when I'm on a trip! I KNEW she was avoiding me! lol! I had a couple of friends who saw Harry Potter 3 the night before we left...they said it was a disappointment if you've read the books. Mainly because it goes so quickly. But I still want to see it!
Cat
I want to see harry potter too but i need a girl to go with so if i see any of my friends i can say "oh she wanted to see it" and keep my macho image =D
Ain't that a fact, JM! :D
Saw Supersize Me. Fantastic film. Dude almost kills himself on a McDonald's only diet.
Anyway, I highly recommend it. Some funny parts to it...and some of it's kinda gross, but it makes you wonder why you eat fast food sometimes. :S
I finally got Army of Darkness not too long ago. Also, I've been watching the Princess Bride several times a week since I got it on DVD.

I found a site that lists US drive-ins (http://www.driveinmovie.com/mainmenu.htm), if you're curious. :)

None in Louisiana
Decent amount in Arkansas and Mississippi
Texas has many, but about the same as Arkansas and Mississippi, if you go by area.
wow theres a drive in in Daly City about 10 min away from me and i didnt even know about it.
The latest movie i have seen is Mississppi Burning with Gene Hackman, watched it again the other day ;D :P
I watched Club Dread and Scary Movie 3 last night.
Club Dread: Best part of the movie was the boobies and Brittney Daniel. So yeah, it was pretty borning....except, again, looking at Brittney Daniel. :D
Scary Movie 3: Pretty funny, both in the tradition of the first two movies and Lethal Weapon/Airplane spoofs. Good show, overall....if you like that sort of thang.
Hahah, I watched that movie and would have literally said "OMGWTF" if I had met Say at the time. XD
I'm sure there's a lot of meaning in it: finding happiness and/or living the "american dream", but even if you can achieve it, in the end are you really happy?

Still haven't gone to see HP3...or any other movies that have come out the last few weeks. *feels deprived* We DID watch X2 last night (for about my 4th or 5th time)...LOVE that movie!

I saw garfeild today big disapointment but I always expect moves to be better than there they are.
Harry Potter 3 is the best so far IMO :D, i loved it !!!
I know of two friends who've seen HP3 and had read the book before...they both hated the movie. But a couple other friends had not read the book and loved the movie... :S

I have read all the books ;D, i was dissapointed with the second HP movie cos they cut alot out :-\, but with HP3 they cut alot out but it still was really good they left in the good stuff IMO ;D
Well, I'm glad to know that at least one person who's enjoyed the books enjoyed the movie also! Thanks Jason!
Have you read the book ???, anyway if you havent then let me know when you have seen the movie cos there is one interesting thing you may want to know ;) ;D
Jason, I think you missed something. I TOOK a class last semester where we read and studied LoTR and HP...so, yeah, not only have I read the books about five times...I MAY know more than the average person about the books! <---note: I said "may" and "average"

awwwww....only 5 times?? ;P ...that's how often i have read the simarillion ;-D and i read LotR many times more ; ) ...never read hp though
Let me clarify a little further. LoTR I've only read twice...HP, each of the books, I've probably read 5 times at least...Never read LoTR until after the second movie came out.
Cat
i have read LotR 2 times by the time i was 14 or so, cuz i had a game about it made by interplay wich i thought was really kwel at that time, my dad told me it was based on a book, so i start reading it ;-D
I hadn't even heard of it until right before the first movie came out!
Cat
I'd heard of it several years before the movies came out, but I never really wanted to read it. I've generally never liked fantasy that much with a very few exceptions, I'm more a straight science fiction fan. (As everyone gasps in utter horror. ;) ) I did read The Hobbit as a young 'un, though.
But a few months before the first movie came out, when the news first came out there would be movies, I caved in and read the books. I've only read them the once, because honestly, it was hard enough wading though Tolkien's writing style the first time. (Now I'm REALLY going to get flogged, I bet. ;) )
There is a mildly funny story that goes with that, though. When I went to buy the books, I couldn't find them displayed in the spot I'd expected (in the SF/Fantasy under "Tolkein", obviously). So, feeling a little foolish but stymied nonetheless, I asked the clerk at the counter if they had a copy of the books available.
He led me over to the special display they had set up in anticipation of the movie (which is why I hadn't been able to find the books :P ), and asked me, and I paraphrase-quote (to the best of my memory, that is) "Do you want the paperback, the "softcover", the hardcover, the annotated hardcover, or the annotated hardcover with appendix, professional artwork sketches and scenes, and goldleaf-trimmed pages?" (I kid you not, that last (or at least the gist of it, I distinctly remember the artwork and gold trim bits) was one of the options!)
I gave him a slightly bemused look, and said good-naturedly, "I'll, er, take the paperbacks. I want to READ the books, not frame them in a museum!" He laughed and said, "Yeah, I don't blame you, it seems a little much to me, too."
Peace & Luv, Liz
i have the simarillion, the hobbit and lotr in english and dutch, they are all paperbacks for the same reason as you. my dad has a 'luxe' version though ;-D
lol...too funny Jeysie!
Well, my sister has the 3-in-1 volume with the appendixes in the back. I have the softcover individual ones with the movie pics on the front. I must admit that the first time I read RoTK, I had to force myself to read about the last half of it. I thought it was SO boring! However, in my Fant. Lit. class, my professor told us that the last part (the Shire part) is probably the most important because it shows us how much all the hobbits had grown throughout their journey...*shrugs* If he says so...he knows more about it than I do!
Cat
i used find the part about sam and frodo boring ;-D ...why didn't they leave that part away?? ;-D
Hee. I actually ended up with paperbacks of the first two, and a "softcover" of the third, because that's all they had left of the third one. (I dunno what the technical term is, but basically a version that's the same size as a typical hardcover, but has a cover and binding like a paperback instead.)
I've never been big on collecting as its own purpose... to me the main value of an object is in its use, rather than its looks or solely the possession thereof. So I'm generally not fussy about getting "collector's editions" or "rare editions" or whatever of books unless the additions would add something to the story that I felt was equivalent to the extra cost.
I might have been tempted to get the "deluxe" version he mentioned for the artwork... but not at the $70 price listed for it!
At any rate, my next goal is to finally read all the Narnia books before the movies come out. ;) (So far I've only read The Lion, the Witch, and the Warddrobe, and Prince Caspian.)
Peace & Luv, Liz
Yeah, I need to read Narnia too...We used to have all the books at our house, but they disappeared one by one...now we only have Prince Caspian left. *decides to hunt down the books in the near future*

i used find the part about sam and frodo boring ;-D ...why didn't they leave that part away?? ;-D
You know...I was the opposite way. I skipped all the parts about Aragorn and such and just read just the parts about Frodo and Sam the first time through :)
Rune
I'm going to see Spiderman 2 with Harrison and a buddy of his either this weekend or next, not sure which. ;D
Peace & Luv, Liz
I will be seeing Fahrenheit 9/11 either today or tomorrow.
I will see it alone if I must.
Seeing spiderman 2 tonight, with like 6 of my friends.
A small group of us are going to see Spiderman 2 tonight! Whoo hoo! Can't wait. From what I've heard, it's a TON better than the first one!

Spiderman 2 RULED! !!! XD
Oh my gosh, I completely agree!! Haven't seen a movie that good since....I don't know when...RoTK?? I loved it when Spiderman did _____ and then Mary Jane ____ _____ and then the doctor ____!! :o It ROCKED!!
Sorry, guys, no spoilers here!
Cat
I know!! XD Remember when Spider-man _____ the _____ and then everyone __________ ? I was like.. whoa, I cannot believe he did that! :o
;D
The funny thing, Neil...I believe I know the exact part of the movie you're talking about! :suffer: But how to suggest that here without spoiling the movie...how about (edit if needed) crowd of people and two kids? :P THAT tells a lot! :P
Cat
Haha, exact same part I'm talking about. XD Yeah, it was really unexpected. 8)
Completely unexpected! And I must say, probably my favorite part in the movie! Well, along with when Harry ____ and then Mary Jane ____.
Hehehe, yup. One of them I figured would happen. (Can't really say any more without spoiling ;P)
XB Guess that means we just have to keep quiet until more people see the movie!
Cat
You can tell all when I get back from the movie tomorrow night. :D (Probably 3am, EST) :D
Hopefully two movies for tomorrow. Fahrenheit 9/11 during the day and Spidey 2 in the night....
Sounds good. :P Oh something I can[/c] say is that I saw the trailer for Catwoman for the first time (during the previews for Spiderman)!
!!! I definitely want to see that movie now. :lovegoggles: XB
Regardless of how scantily clad Halle Berry gets, I have no interest in seeing that movie at all. NONE.
I'm half watching "Heat" right now. Grrrrreat movie.

Heat is like so good one of the best movies, also catwomen looks pretty dumb only DC person i like is batman.

I was told that the scene that Neil and I were hinting at (the "crowd of people, two kids" one) is actually not in the comics. But it was an awesome scene anyway! I have some of the old DC collectors cards from about 1992--so with both X-Men and Spiderman, I have kinda figured out how they're going to end...but since I didn't read the comics, I don't know HOW they're going to get to the end! :P
Cat
Yeah, after seeing Spiderman 2, you'll definitely notice a deviation from the comic series. But don't worry, it's a good deviation, IMO anyway. 8)
They're probably not going to get to every aspect of the comic either, since AFAIK Spiderman 3 (May 2007) is the last in the trilogy.
I'm really not a Batman or Catwoman purist so it's so not stopping me from seeing Halle Berry... err.. Catwoman. ;D <3
Quote from: J-ROC on July 02, 2004, 10:43:56 AM
Cat: Catwoman also appeared in the second Batman movie, "Batman Returns." Played by Michelle Pfeifer. She wore a tight leather body suit. Covered everything but was still OH-SO-SEXY. :o So, I agree with you on the clad comment, but clad has never really bothered me. :D But it's still not enough to get me to watch a stupid movie.
Well, I didn't see the first two Batman movies...when they came out, I guess I would have been too young to enjoy them. I saw the two that included Robin. But from the sound of it...Michelle's costume sounds like it's more of what she wore in the comics--unlike HB's (as has previously been covered! or not :P)
Cat
Spiderman 2 was very, very good!
Much better than the first one! MUCH!
My biggest complaint is Kyrsten Dunst wasn't soaking wet for enough of the movie. :D
LOL not wet enough! :suffer:
Yeah, I found the second one to be better than the first. And the first was really good, so that says a lot! XD
If people keep talking about Spiderman2, I'm going to have to see what they're talking about.
All I've been able to tell, from the trailors, is his new costume makes the computer graphics work better. Besides the obvious.
You fellas are terrible! XD Not that I blame you, though, Kirsten Dunst *is* a babe.
I get to go see it this afternoon, wheee!
Peace & Luv, Liz
I should probably hire the first Spiderman movie :-\, before i see the second one ;D, cos i havent seen the first one before :-\
Yes, you should rent the first one before seeing the second.
There's a couple of things that just wouldn't make a whole lotta sense without seeing the first. (You can see it stand alone and still enjoy it, but you'd miss out some references and such.)
And yes, Kirsten Dunst is a superbabe. My biggest complaint with Kirsten Dunst (and this is a very serious infraciton of living a good life) is that she's not dating me. :D Hopefully someday she'll come to her senses and become my Sugar Momma. :D
who is Kirsten Dunst??

hahahha, yeah... i am counting my days.... o wait, got to see shrek 2 first (finally) we dutch ppl are so far behind :'(
Saw Spidy 2 again tonight! Still as good as the first time! (I KNOW I said that elsewhere!). Neil, my favorite scene is STILL that one I mentioned before...the crowd and the two kids :P!
Cat
I <3 Shrek 2 ;D
" I'm a real boy" (mid flight)
Ahahahaha! Enjoyable movie indeed.
Kimmie, did you remember to stay for part-way through the credits?? :P
Cat
lol, i went to shrek 2 a week ago and my friends wanted to leave when it ended. I told them to hold on for a few mins and then i saw it.....
:o :o :o :o really scary/adorable ;-D
Watched Butterfly Effect yesterday, its like one of the best movies i have seen in a while I suggest you guys should go rent it if you havent seen it.
I will be watching that movie in about ten minutes...
Aaaahh! A thread of importance, I have stumbled upon(read in Yoda voice)
In talking about movies I first must say that whatever praise I bring to any movie will never be above that that I would be prepared to extend to the LotR series. Those will always rock my world.
Now, Spidey is my fav in the comic movie world, although Zorro was good and, against the stream, Hulk was enjoyable as well. In fact I even enjoyed Superman at the time and especially Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor. Batman deteriorated, as many has already noted, with time, while X-men, IMHO, is overrated from the get-go.
Saw Chronicles of Riddick and it really wasn't all that great, so I saw The Terminal right after and that was a great movie. Not so much a chick flick as I first thought it would be, although I really enjoy the so-called "chick-flicks", for the most part.
*grabs a shield in expectance of a barrage of mockery from the male crowd of the forum*
Spiderman 2's probably the best movie I've seen this year.
I'm still waiting for a couple others this month like:
- The Bourne Supremacy
- Catwoman
- I, Robot
- The Village
- Collateral
- The Manchurian Candidate
I'm not sure if I'm gonna see all of them, but hopefully most. ;D
Yeah Yonkey! You have good taste in movies.
The Manchurian Candidate
The Bourne Supremacy
I, Robot
are all movies I'm waiting very patiently to see*angelic face with a impatient heart*
Denzel is one of my favorite actors. If he is in it it is almost assuredly a great movie. Same with Morgan Freeman and Tom Hanks.
I'm kind of leery about I, Robot, since they've out-and-out said it's not based on any of the short stories. Plus I thought Harlan Ellison's Illustrated Screenplay version kicked butt. Besides, it just wouldn't be the same without Powell and Donovan in there *somewhere*. ;D
And I thought the X-Men movies also kicked butt.
Peace & Luv, Liz
I saw Anchorman a few days ago. I think its the funniest movie I've seen all year!
BTW, what happens halfway through the credits of Shrek 2? I saw the movie twice but I didn't stay for the credits for very long.
How could you not stay long enough after all we've told you!?!? :P
I'm waiting around for I, Robot also...not exactly my type of movie but it actually looks interesting. Still wanting to see Princess Diaries 2. I'm sure there are more that I'm waiting for, but I can't remember them! :P
BTW, I love both the X-Men movies!!
Cat
Movies looking forward to:
See Neil's list, minus the crapfest known as Catwoman. (Not that you care, Neil, but I will not hold the fact that you want to see that movie against you. :))
Saw both Butterfly Effect and Secret Window. Neither were great, neither sucked.
Both get 3.5 <3's out of 5.
Haven't seen Butterfly effect, mostly because of Ashton Kuchter(SP?), the non-actor. The concept is interesting though, although I have seen movies with good concepts of time travel and that category before and very few are really well thuoght thruogh and hold up in the long run. This one I don't know if it will or not, you tell me
J-ROC: what did you think of it in more specific terms?
I saw Shrek2 recently in theaters. I also rented Mooseport, a movie with Ray Romano as a small town plumber in Maine who runs for the mayor against the former president of the US. (The name of the town is Mooseport.) Also rented Mona Lisa Smile, very good movie. I saw Stepford wives at the theater, it was good, funny and had a point about not making people like robots, people have flaws in them but that is what makes them human. I saw Rotk. I wanna see HP3 and the Notebook.
I wanna see the Butterfly affect and the Last Samurai. I find it's better to wait for movies to come on video since I have a blockbuster membership. They can be expensive from blockbuster too, but not as much as a theater ticket cost.
Yeah I tend to wait for the DVD/VHS release too, unless it's a movie that really needs a big screen or a really good movie soundsystem. Usually those two types of traits are found in the same movie.
Plus you can't beat the community feeling in a theater when it comes to seeing movies like LotR and Star wars and matrix etc...

I saw the movie before anyone mentioned anything about the credits. Also our movie theatre shut down.
I cant wait to see "I, Robot" :D
Im also hoping that they never release a Terminator 4, because the third one was bad enough IMO :-\
I, Robot was awesome! Saw it tonight! Language was a little bad...but ya'll know me! Other than that, very enjoyable movie!! There are several twists and turns you wouldn't expect!
Cat
We havent got it here yet :'(
I didn't know they'd released it in the US.
It looks interesting, but I've heard the only thing it's got in common with Asimov is the Three Laws of Robotics, so I'm not sure I'll bother. It's not even out yet in Aus either *pouts*. I hate having to wait so long for releases.
You'd be surprised how long it takes them to get to where I live. Longer than in most of the US.
That's interesting. I'd always thought most movies would be released on the same date all over USA.
Released, yes.
The theater where I live, is one room. So the movies aren't normally shown on the release date. I could go to a larger one, but they're further away, and I like the smaller one.
Hey Guys!
( Jael, Racx... )
I, Robot comes out this thursday I think, I'll double check the release date. ( I Work for Hoyts )
We usually get movies only a 1 week after the US, and in some cases at the same time or just before.
Harry Potter 3, we got it a few hours before they did, and the same with Day After Tomorrow.
The distributers are very strict with security and THEY decide when the movies can be shown.
With HP3 for example, they sent the actual film in 3 sections with sperate couriers so if one went missing, the thief wouldn't be able to publish the whole film before its release.
Did you know 2 guys got caught at the Premiere of Day After Tomorrow at Sydneys Fox Studio's Hoyts...
They had cameras and managed to get them into the cinema... They both got fined like $200,000 each!
( Like I said, they are craxy with Security. )
We even had undercover agents from the distributers of HP3 come and do surprise walk-throughs of the complex to make sure we were following the 'proper' security procedures with the film! OMG they are TIGHT ASS!
;)
We also have a theater with only one screen in the town I live in...and they've been showing Spidey 2 for three weeks now! But there are several larger theaters 30 minutes in just about every direction for us...so all we have to do is make it to the theater in time for the movie!! :P
Cat
You unlucky folks, Lousiana and Koko. ;)
There's three "megaplex" theaters in my area that I'm familar with (including one only a five minute drive from my house, although we usually go to one a little farther away instead), and probably about 4 or 5 (I think) more in the area I've never been to.
Peace & Luv, Liz
When I lived in Whitecourt, I would have to drive TWO HOURS before I could get to a multiplex/megaplex. Stupid Whitecourt. No wonder I hate the place.
Now I'm in Calgary and there's a bunch here. WOOT!
I re-watched Ronin last night. Goooood show.
Small movie theater=walking distance
"megaplex" theater/s=40 minute drive
The Hoyts Megaplex that I work out of is a 5 minute walk away! :p
:suffer:
And I still live in nice bushy residential area... :D
( Until I move to my new apartment at the end of the week! awww.... )
I remember back when E.T. first came out. It took about 4 months for it to come over the Atlantic to Sweden after having been released in the States, and then it took another 5 years(!!) before it went to video. That's crazy, especially with the speed it goes today.
Yeah, when I was living in Germany, it was a pain in the butt because we watched everything at the Canadian theatre, and the english movies didn't get sent over until they were done screening in North America.
So, by the time we got it in our one theatre on the base, the movie was coming out in video back in Canada.
I just watched the movie Memento again!
What a wicked movie!
I've got the special edition, so one of these days I'm going to have to watch it from beginning to end, but in the natural time line! :D

WATCH IT!
WATCH IT!
Such a good film and such a unique concept and way of editing a film.
<3 <3 <3
I don't care what you have to do! Just take the 2 hours to watch it! You can thank me for wetting my pants over this later. :D
Last week I saw I, Robot and Farenheit 9/11.
I, Robot was a bit better than I expected and Farenheit 9/11 was a bit worse than I expected. 8)
Well, 9/11 was exactly what I expected...but I wasn't really watching it entirely for it's entertainment purposes.
And I still want to see I, Ribbit.
Yeah I saw I, Robot too and it was good. Very well done SFX and well thought through story. The script was ok and the acting generally good. So overall a good movie.
I also saw The Bourne Supremacy. WOW! THAT was a good movie! See it is all I have to say.
Well, I liked the Bourne Identity, so I have every intention on seeing the Bourne Supremacy!
Two movies I have to watch now, darn it! :D
What does everyone think of Alien versus Predator? I'd be expecting a good movie, if it wasn't for Predator2.
Meh. There are other movies I'd rather see.
Just watched Eurotrip. Pretty good for a couple of larfs. Gonna watch Starsky and Hutch veyr soon.
I'm probably not going to see it. Just not the type of movie that I'm interested in seeing. But I can't wait for Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement! :D
Cat
My thoughts on that film can be summed up in one slang word: EW! :D
I'm with J-R... Just Say No to chick flicks. ;)
Peace & Luv, Liz
AMEN, SISTER!
Now movies where they blow stuff up: Awwwh yeah! :D
I love chick flicks! :P
Movies that blow things up, sometimes I can handle them...as long as there's a plot. HAS to have a plot...I.Robot, Oceans Eleven, etc, etc. But scary movies...NO WAY!
Hmm. I agree, it's fun stuff get blowed up real good, but only when it get blowed up real good for an interesting plot reason.
As for scary movies... I like psychological horror movies, stuff that plays with your head, not necessarily needing a lot of gore or whatnot. Hack 'n' Slash stuff usually does nothing for me.
Peace & Luv, Liz
Yeah same here. I like movies with a plot, and especially ones with plot twists that you never see coming! <3
Sometimes I see the occasional stupid teen comedy movie, but mostly it's when we want to watch a movie and there's absolutely nothing else worth watching. :P
Hee. The stupid teen comedy thing reminds me... I used to love watching USA Network's Up All Night, which basically was devoted to showing B-movies late at night, the sort of movies which involve things like lame rubber monster suits, fake blood, and scantily-clad women. It was a kick in a Mystery Science Theater 3000 sort of way.
Peace & Luv, Liz
Psychological horror movies are great!
The ones that rely on startling you or gore suck rotten grapes.
I like Alfred Hitchcock, he made some great movies/series/books(not too sure about the last one).

If you like us like these psyche movies, then these movies are musts: *The Usual Suspects...King of the unexpected twists(in my book, since it was the first movie that REALLY caught me off guard)
*Dead Calm(with Sam Neil and Nicole Kidman at sea)
*Signs(M. Night Shyamalan's 3rd movie)
*Out of time(Denzel Washington, always good)
*Fallen(another D. Washington-must-see)
More to come...
Yah, Harrison made me finally watch The Usual Suspects a while back. Great movie... it helps that Kevin Spacey kicks butt. ;D
I still remember Harrison being kinda surprised to find out that the fellow who directed the X-Men movies is the same one who directed Usual Suspects.
Haven't seen the others, though.
Peace & Luv, Liz
I really enjoyed Signs, as well as Unbreakable by M. Night Shamalyananananandyadgmdsg or however you spell his name. Sixth Sense was good, too...but not really something you can entirely watch over and over. (at least not me)
I did really like "What Lies Beneath" with Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford.
"The Ring" was creepy, too. <3
I actually did watch "What Lies Beneath"...my friends forced me! But it was pretty good!
Yeah, "What lies beneath" is a really good one too, but "The Ring" was really freaky and although is was intriguing and had a a lot of suspense, it just left me with a yucky feeling, and I don't like that.
I really like the runaway movies too, like "The Fugitive" etc. Those are really good too.
I never saw "The Ring" but I <3 "What Lies Beneath". :)
I saw The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs. I found The Sixth Sense to be the best of the three. Has anyone seen or is planning to see The Village?
I don't know. It's playing at our downtown theater...but it doesn't have the best reviews. But again...I don't really care for scary movies...*shrugs*
Not sure if M. Night Smahgalkjdslksg;lkads has always gotten the best reviews. Plus there's probably unusually high expectations as a result of the earlier movies.
I have every intention of seeing it. I just need someone to see it with. To hold me during hte scary parts.
Sorry...then it won't be me. I'd be the one hiding my face through the majority of the film :P
Awwwh...
Any takers for someone to hold me during the scary parts of a movie while I cry like a widdle baby?
I probably wouldn't hold you... but if we go when there's not many people around to get offended, I can poke fun at the movie MST3K-style and make you laugh so much you'll forget you're scared! :D
Peace & Luv, Liz
Uh oh. I hate movie talkers. :S
Guess that means ya'll aren't as compatible as ya'll thought XB
Well, it's okay to talk at home, but not at the theatre.
I despite talking at the theatre and people who can't seem to stop kicking my seat from behind. One or twice is an honest mistake, but perpetually is very aggrivating.
Which is why I said I'd only do it if the theater was empty or mostly empty. I don't talk when there's lots of people around, I'm not a jerk. :P
Making fun of movies at home is the best part, though. Even if we like the movie, Harrison and I can't resist making some jabs. Once you're an MSTer, you're forever corrupted!
Peace & Luv, Liz
As much as I enjoy MST3K, I still don't like making fun of good movies as we're watching them.
Mind you, if they're old campy movies, we (a group of friends and I) would often do the hecking thing. Even at theatres.
There was an older theatre in Halifax called Wormwoods (since closed) and they had midnight showings. Anyway, one night they showed the original "War of the Worlds". Well, every time Dr. Forrester was mentioned, we had to chant:
"FORRESTER! FORRESTER! DOCTOR CLAYTON FORRESTER!"
By the end of the show, most of the theatre was joining in. :D
ON another note, I just watched "The Rundown" tonight, starring The Rock, Christopher Walken, and Sean William Scott. It's a fun and funny action movie. Not realistic or anything, but still amusing and good for a laugh.
Also watched the indie film "Elephant". It's about a high school shooting...like a ficticious Columbine. I didn't like it. There wasn't much on the character development, not much of a story, and wasn't very moving...other than a little disturbing. I did like it how it TRIED to make you feel connected to the characters because it gave you their names, but it didn't really work. I also liked how it was kinda boring, like the average day of high school student that suddenly goes wrong. It got some critical acclaim, but I don't really see why.
I'd go with you, James, if you need someone to hold you through the scary parts, but you live to far away... ;B I am watching it though. No question about that! Yeah the Rundown is a great movie for just having fun and some good action. I want that one. I really enjoy the Rock more and more. The Scorpion king...meh but since then, he's really getting better and better. Can't wait for "Walking tall". Also Peter Jacksons latest one, "King Kong" remake.. that'll be a good one too...
BTW the last Star Wars movie is starting to take shape and it has gotten its name now. It's "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith". Although Star Wars as a series has deteriorated the second was better than the first and this third one looks like it'll be the best of the ast three...(hopefully)
Things that irritate me at a theatre...
*TALKING DURING THE MOVIE(captial punishment)
*LEAVING THE CELLPHONE ON(lifetime beheading)
*BRINGING KIDS TOO YOUNG TO WATCH AND THEY GET SCARED AND SCREAM AND STUFF(see above)
Quote from: zerogravityfire on August 01, 2004, 06:22:09 PMAlthough Star Wars as a series has deteriorated the second was better than the first and this third one looks like it'll be the best of the ast three...(hopefully)
Well, it'd be kind of hard for the last movie to be *worse* than the first two. :P
The only good part of the first two was Ewan MacGregor as Obi-Wan, and not just because he's gorgeous, either.
Peace & Luv, Liz
I agree that Ewan McGreggor was brilliantly cast.
Natalie Portman is quite alright, too, if you ask me.
Liam Neeson was excellent, as well...but he was only in one, dangit!
Zero: Thanks....at least someone here is willing to comfort me during a movie. :)
Yeah, Ewan was really good and also Liam, but I couldn't really stand the kid playing Anakin(in the second movie), and Natalie was a lot better in the second. In the first she acted as if she was constipated the whole time. I know, I know, she was supposed to be more "royal" or something like that, but that isn't how she came across.
It'll be really interesting to see all the developments and especially what happens to Count Dooku(also well cast). I my opinion, the first movie could be watched with the mute function enabled, and it would have been a better movie.(except for all Yoda lines of course)
Yeah, Christopher Lee (I THINK that's his name) as Count Dooku was also very well cast.
Both kids that played Anakin were pretty terrible. I still think Hayden Christanson (second) wasn't quite as bad as Jake Lloyd (first). Jake's "Whoopiees" in the shop there were the least enthusiastic celebration I've heard that wasn't meant to be sarcastic.
All of the "romance" scenes in the second movie made me want to crawl under my seat. Ugh. Somebody tell Hayden he needs a new day job.
Peace & Luv, Liz
Who's playing him in the third? Or will the guy be in a mask the whole time so it won't matter?
I still think it's Hayden Christianson.
It is...I remember reading that somewhere...I think the same place where I read the offical title for the third one.
Oh. :( Hopefully he'll be a lot better. ;P
He's had a couple of years...hopefully he couldn't get any worse!
I just got back from seeing Catwoman. :X OMG, whoever hasn't seen it yet, please do NOT see it. It was way too cheesy, fake (as in too much computer generated graphics, but in a bad way) and Halle saved the movie as much as the captain saved Titanic. ::)
Honestly, I don't know if it was the acting, writing or the directing that sucked, but it was just bad. And for those of you wanting to see it just for Halle, she was way better in Die Another Day than this movie. :o
I wasn't planning on watching it, but thanks for the warning anyways.
Neil, for the most part the acting in Catwoman was good (there were a few minor exceptions...and the rich lady who was a not-so-minor exception :P). What killed the movie was the writing, directing, much of the costuming, the editing, and the special effects. Other than that, the movie was GREAT. ::)
Anyways, this summer I've seen a lot more movies than I usually do (there are bonuses to being sick :P). So, here's a short review of each one...
Spider-Man: this is the second time I saw this, and it was still VERY good.
Spider-Man 2: Even better than the first!
X-Men: not quite as good as I had thought it was the first time I saw it, but it was still great. And this time I got to see deleted scenes!
X2: X-Men United: WAAAAAY better than the first! Terrific!
A Cinderella Story: Slightly better than I expected. Still not something I'd recommend by a LONG shot.
Catwoman: I believe you saw my mini-rant at the beginning of this...
I've also been watching the TV series "The 4400" which is so so so cool. There's a marathon from 4 EST to...uhm...some time...on Sunday which should show all the episodes in order. So anyone who gets USA on their TV, I *highly* recommend watching that marathon! I already said I'd tape it for Jeysie...maybe she could make copies of the tape(s) for anyone who's interested and can't watch? She's more likely to know how to do it than I am. :)
I just got back from "The Village"! :D
It was so not as scary as the commercials made it seem, there were a few scary moments though. XD Overall, it was a pretty good movie. :) It's also one of those movies that leaves you thinking once you know the ending. 8)
My sister saw it and I think she is wanting to see it a second time (either that, or she's already seen it twice!). Anyway, from what I hear, it's better than the reviews make it. Of course, when do the reviews ever do a movie justice??
Just got back from The Princess Diaries 2. It was really good. A little corny, but that's what makes the movie. I mean, it's based on a girl who is so uncoordinated who is trying to become queen of a country! :P Anyway, I really enjoyed it.
Alien vs. Predator:
Festering piece of crap.
J-ROC, did you actually watch the movie, or is that just what you think of it?
There was a trailer for a movie called "The Forgotten" that aired during the Olympic coverage that looked pretty interesting. It'll be nice to be interested in a movie that isn't a sequel or based on something... hasn't happened in a while.
Peace & Luv, Liz
Yeah...The Forgotten looks good. So does Cellular. And of course, Vanity Fair with Reese Witherspoon.

Theme Song (http://www.lostworldtv.net/adventure/music/lw-theme-hi.mp3)
Jersey Gril -> Surprisingly good and touching. Rather enjoyed it.
The Punisher -> Decent, but kind of boring and not as stylish or cool as I would have hoped.
Have to wait till 14 december to get the extended version of RotK :-\ :(
That long!?!? :o As my parents said they'd get it for me for my last b-day--I guess I'll be getting it seven months late! :(
yeah, IIRC the other extended dvd's were released in november :-\
True...but I still say it's torture that they're making us wait so long!
I just saw the great "Pulp Fiction." That was an amazing movie.
I preferred Reservoir Dogs and the Kill Bills.
Shaun of the Dead -> Not too bad, actually. Probably more "british" humour than I could understand, but still kind of a fun zombie movie. My friend I saw it with didn't like it, but he also didn't like Spidey 2.
Garden State -> With Zack Braff, of TV's "Scrubs" fame. He also wrote and directed. Also stars Natalie Portma. I really enjoyed that movie. It reminded me a lot of Wes Anderson movies (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums). Disfunctional people in weird relationships, but a very sweet and moving film.
Fahreinheit 9/11 comes out tomorrow.
and...??
Well, I was told that Shark Tale wasn't all that great...haven't had a chance to see it yet...
Since it was made by the same people that made Shrek(which took a LOT of work for people to get me to watch in the first place), I'm guessing I can expect it to be just as bad. :P
If you liked the movie Shrek, then go ahead and watch it, it must be a GREAT movie. ;P
Cat: Fahrenheit 9/11 is a definite buy for me, and I recommend anyone to rent it. So rent it. It's a must see.
Eternal Sunshine On A Spotless Mind -> Good. Kind of weird, but enjoyable and moving. I thuroughly enjoyed it.
I just bought Fahrenheit 9/11. I'll be watching it later tonight.
Well, I finally saw the movie I've been waiting to see for so long, and I'm not dissapointed. It raised many interested eyebrows, but some people debate what is said in the movie. Its one of those things where "This COULD be right, BUT this just might be a little MORE right." Then again, I don't know.
Well, it's fact.... but it's Michael Moore's interpretatoin of those facts. He speculates on some of the reasoning and thought processed people went through to make some of their decisions, but it's based on documented facts.
Part of the point is to draw your own conclusions, though.
But as to avoid getting into a political discussion, the only thing else I have to say is that I thuroughly enjoyed the film.
Personally, I beleived that his interpretation of said thoughts was quite hilarious.
He throws quite a humourous twist on many things. It keeps the presentation interesting. And he makes the decisions that people have accepted seem ludicrous, because he puts them next to the principles many of us hold true and then we realize that the decisions made are actually nuts.
I don't mean to cross the line, but...
The Patriot Act scares me.
:o CAT! You deprived young woman! Go to your nearest video rental store and find a movie with the word/name "Bueller" in the title. WATCH IT!!
seen a movie, wasn't really good though :-\
Is it Ferris Bueller's Day Off?? *shrugs* If so, I've never seen it.
that's the one I saw :X
Yes, Cat, it *is* Ferris Bueller's Day Off!! Rob, how can you NOT LIKE THAT MOVIE?!
Maybe it's because you're not from America?
lol! yeah, I guess that would be the reason ::) :P
I agree, Ferris Bueller's Day Off does kick butt. Koko, you need to watch it!
I identified way too much with Cameron, the poor fellow. I spent most of the movie wanting to give him a hug...
Random useless trivia: The actor who played Cameron played Captain John "We're getting all the good stuff on Tuesday" Harriman in Star Trek: Generations.
Peace & Luv, Liz
/me thinks Jeysie is from the US too ::) :P ;-D
ok, finally got some time to catch up with my movie-seeing thingy, so perhaps i'll post here more often (or not) :P
Saw wimbledon this morning, it was a okay movie. kinda predictable, but luckily not too boring :S ...it at least kept me from falling asleep in the train :P
I kinda like Paul Bettany performance (always have; beautiful mind, knights tale, etc) and ...o yeah, kirsten dunst plays in it too, ...she always reminds me of a girl I know :)
Lessee...
Harrison wants to see Fahrenheit 9/11, but he wants to see Bowling With Columbine first.
Looking forward to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban coming out on DVD next month since I didn't get to see it in the theater. Plus Harrison said he liked what he saw of the first HP movie, so maybe I can nag him to watch this one with me.
I want to go see The Forgotten, but Harrison doesn't want to see it, and going to the movies alone sucks. Poo.
We both did go to see Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Very fun movie... a fun stylistic romp throwback to the 1950's black & white B-Movie sci-fi serials. Plus Dex was the coolest character. Harrison didn't like it though... figures. Maybe it's just as well we never go to movies any more... he never likes any of them. :P (Although I get the feeling that Harrison was expecting an epic-deep-plot movie from Sky Captain... which it definitely wasn't intended to be...)
Peace & Luv, Liz
Fahrenheit 9/11 was an ...ehhhh ...intresting movie :P ...nicely put together,
I thought the director made an excellent work of not implying anything and not showing his own opinion ::) ::) :P
lol!
Jeysie, from what I hear, The Forgotten is a great movie. I'm waiting for National Treasure to come out. And then, of course, in December, The Phantom of the Opera is coming out ;D
hmmm, from what I've read the Forgotten doesn't seem to me a really great movie, but then again, ...might be worth to see ::)
FINALLY! Somebody named a movie that I'd like to see! :D
National Treasure's trailer/advertisement was good, so I'm hoping it will be a decent movie. :)
Always wondered what that eye on dollar bills was about :P
never heard of that movie ; \ ...what it's about?
I could be wrong, but I'm guessing it won't sell well outside the US. :P
I'll quote IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/)
QuoteSince childhood, Benjamin Franklin Gates has known that he is decended from a long line of people whose job is to guard a treasure hidden by the Founding Fathers, who hid clues to its whereabouts in the country's currency and on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Now, he has learned of a plot to steal the Declaration, and has only one option: steal it himself. Even if he pulls off this monumental task, keeping the treasure safe is still going to be incredibly hard, especially since the FBI has also gotten wind of the scheme.
Weird plot, but it caught my attention. XD
I saw The Grudge a few nights ago. I didn't scream, but it was propably the scariest movie that I have ever seen.

Some say its the "All Seeing Eye of Lucifer" (But thats a whole other conspiracy for another day), and some say its just the "All Seeing Eye."
I've missed Shrek 2 and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban :'(
When I finally get the time to go to the movies, they stop showing the only two movies I wanted to see this year.
Fraps :(
On the bright side, they're both coming out on DVD soon...
Peace & Luv, Liz
When do they come out on DVD?
I'm looking forward to Ocean's 12. Looks like fun! :D
Shrek 2's already out on DVD... got released last week, I believe.
Prisoner of Azkaban's coming out on the 23rd of this month.
That's here in the US, though... dunno when they'll be released in Israel. :-\
Peace & Luv, Liz
I saw The Incredibles this past weekend, great movie!!! Animation has come a long way! ;D
I can't wait for Ocean's 12! XD
iirc Ocean 12 was recorderd (partly of course) in Amsterdam (netherlands)
What's Ocean12? :-\
it's the sequel (http://imdb.com/title/tt0349903/) of Ocean's 11
Thanks Rob. :)
Looks like an interestng show. :D
The Incredibles was really, really good.

But yeah, those who are tardy buy the DVD. I won't though - I don't own a DVD player.
Those who don't have DVD players sponge on those who do ::)
I agree, watching movies in the theater is the best (I meant to watch both in the theater too, meh).
But watching movies at home has its own appeal... like being able to pause the movie to go pee and get more snacks, and being able to poke fun at things MST3K style without everyone yelling at you. Oh, and rewinding and rewatching really fun parts, or to check if that tiny little in-joke detail you saw really *is* what you thought it was.
Anyhoo. Both movies are/will be out on VHS too, never fear. Just without the cool extras. >:(

saw alien vs predator in the train
cwappy movie, didn't liked it :-\ :(
Well, it's not a new movie, but... they aired Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone on TV the other day here.
Not bad, on the whole. What scenes they showed went decently, although some of the acting was a bit wooden. The special effects and music were nifty, of course!
I felt the movie was too rushed, though. They left out a number of things (more Gred and Forge! C'mon!) and shortened others. Would have been nice to see more of the classes (and teachers). For some odd reason, I find myself wishing they had more of the bits with Quirrell... I just liked the actor's portrayal of him. The "announcing the troll" scene in particular stuck me as hilarious.
I would probably like Snape and Draco a little more if I had seen just the movies. They both have a lot of style, especially Snape. (But Alan Rickman is way cool, anyway.) And Neville! He's so cute! (hugs) But aw, c'mon, where's Percy's glasses? They just seem a part of his personality somehow.
Didn't get to have Harrison's commentary on the movie yet, but he seemed to think it was fun. Even if he still kept mixing up Quirrell and Lupin. "Is he the really cool teacher you said you liked?" "No, I told you, that's the *third* movie. Now hush."
Peace & Luv, Liz
I heard from two credible sources that "The Incredibles" is really good.
Yeah, I heard it was good, too.
I'm probably going to rent "White Chicks" and "Waterboy" today. :)
seen out of time (http://imdb.com/title/tt0313443/), nice movie, xcept for the first scene :-\ ...but I kinda enjoyed it :D

Yeah, it looked too cheesy from the trailers: "Do you have a charger? :'("... :X
White Chicks was pretty lousy. Had two scenes that made me laugh out loud, but the rest merely got a smirk, if anything.
The Waterboy is great, stupid fun. :)
Also rented Ju-On, the Japanese version of "The Grudge". I will wait until daylight to watch that. :D

Here it was translated to 'the wise men's stone', where 'wise men' is a commonly used word (something like 'elders').

Re: The Philosopher's Stone
The original title of Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone in England was the Philosopher's Stone. Thus in Austrailia, which is a commonwealth..it probably would be there too. :)
I think everyone should see Bridget Jones, the Edge of Reason...hehe. Its not as funny as the book was and they made some majjjor changes but I still liked it.

Just a little late... I knew that it's called "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" everywhere else but in the US. ;) Storm's partly right... they changed the name because the US editors thought US readers would be too dense to get the reference. Go editors. :P

Babylon 5 Movie Starts Filming in April (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=7515)
Not only that, but it has Galen in it... *fangirl squeal*

Pardon, I must go and cavort and frolic with joy!

I'm looking for an old movie i think somewhere in the 70's, but i cant remember its name. I think its a Walt Disney Movie
It starts with a big Alien Spaceship taking off from a Football Field, then these two Children are left behind. They have special Powers and can read eachother's mind.
They meet allot of Friends and then they hold hands with these six kids when they all jump over some fence.
Later in the Movie, the Alien boy gets brainwashed and is using his power to try and kill his Sister with a Steel Bar fom a Building being build.
Anyway, the Boy get's back to normal and then later the two Alien Kids fly off in there Spaceship again who is waiting for them at the Football Field.
Does anybody know the name of the Movie.
Daventry:
I believe that "Return From Witch Mountain (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078158/plotsummary)" might be the movie you're thinking of.

I have met "Galen" at a convention, and he's a great guy. I saw the short trailer for Hitchhiker's and even though it didn't really show anything from the movie, it looks like they are on the right track.
Daventry: NP. I never cease to be amazed at the weird stuff I manage to remember. :D
MJ: I'm glad to hear Peter Woodward is a nice fellow. He's certainly a superb actor. I <3 his voice... accented, yet still precisely pronounced and perfectly modulated. He could make a phone book sound interesting! (I have such a horrible weakness for the classically trained variety of British actor...) And he has a wonderfully expressive (and nice to look at... *ahem*) face as well. Add to that the fact that I've always found the Technomages fascinating, and well... *squee*!
Peace & Luv, Liz
I guess you like him then!
(Makes me feel proud to be British hearing that!)
Shadow: Heh. I've got this list sorta... Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, etc... 'specially Oldman. ;D And that's just the *fellows*... there's also Julie Andrews, Deborah Kerr, Maggie Smith...
Maybe it's because over in your neck of the woods theater is a respected art, and many film actors are also stage thespians... whereas here in the US film acting and theater acting are usually two separate matters, and theater generally gets less popular clout.
Peace & Luv, Liz
Well, Momma and I finally got the chance to go see "Phantom of the Opera." Talk about a wonderful movie! Granted, I'm sure you have to like musicals to enjoy it. I just sat through it humming through it (got the soundtrack for Christmas, and I know the music, even if I don't know the words). It's definitely a movie that I want to get when it comes out! :)
Finally got round to watching School of Rock and LMAO throughout the whole thing! Its been some time since a film has had that effect on me too hehe. I think my favourite line was
QuoteExcuse me, Excuse me! *principal smiles and talks calmly* I can tell you now that all your children are missing!
And the music wasn't half bad either!
*pokes* Have you gotten around to seeing Phantom yet?? ::)
Yeah, School of Rock was fun. I plan to see Phantom when it is in the cheap theaters. I hate paying almost 10 bucks for a flick and even the matinee at 5 bucks is a stretch but 3 bucks for the cheap theater is great and on Tuesday night one of the cheap theaters has two tickets for the price of one and so it works out to $1.50 and I can easily afford that. LOL !!!! :D
I bought Anchorman.
Brick is my hero.
After seeing Anchorman in theatres once, I knew that I would buy it on the day it came out.
I'm waiting for Alone in the Dark... and hoping it turns out to be a good movie( good video game series, and I hope the movie lives up to it ). :)
I don't know if this was James' first post...but
JAMES IS BACK! :D
*glomps J-R happily*

Mmm... glomp-a-licious. :D
Must... watch... Anchorman... tonight...
Watching "Singing in the Rain" Never appreciated it before, but I'm LOVING it now! ;D
Of course, a musical can't go wrong with me :P
I watched Ong-Bak: Thai Warrior.
Kinda silly story and some crappy acting, but the action sequences were really cool. That Tony Jaa feller has some MAD SKILLZ, YO!

I saw Constantine last night. I loved it.
I was supposed to see it Friday. Things got kinda late, so we rescheduled to Saturday. I have no idea what happened there, but I'm supposed to see it tonight now... but I'm not getting my hopes up.
*sigh*
the movies I want to see this year are The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Fantastic Four, and Indiana Jones 4. :stabs:
you WANT to see revenge of the Sith?! i thought we vowed to picket it opening day! >:( :P
yes but ... but ..come on it is going to fill in all the plot holes of the other films i have to see it once :stabs:
Well, it looks like the Babylon 5 movie has gotten the axe (http://www.visi.com/~wildfoto/spoilers.html). (sigh) Damn it.
Well, at least I still have the Hitchhiker's Guide and 4th Harry Potter movies to look forward to this year. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory looks interesting as well (although I thought the original movie was quite good already). I'll probably see the Star Wars movie, too. It's like watching a train wreck... you know it's going to be horrible, but it's too morbidly fascinating to look away from.
Incidentally, are they actually making an Indiana Jones 4? I thought it was perpetually one of those rumors that keeps getting brought up and tossed around every now and then but never goes anywhere.
Peace & Luv, Liz
I knew they were making it... but I thought it was canceled during production. ;P
from TheRaider.net
QuoteWhen will Indiana Jones 4 be released?
That is currently unknown right now, with the script and project in limbo the shooting date could be weeks, months, or even years away. However, the rumor in Hollywood right now is that Indiana Jones IV will be released summer of 2006, only one year later then originally expected.
I never said it would be out this year... i just said i wanted to see it this year :stabs:
You want to see The Fantastic Four?! That looks like elephant crap balled up in old dinosaur crap and then put into a fire for awhile and then crapped on by someone who ate too much spicy Mexican food. That's how crappy that one looks... and then some extra crap in there for good measure. :X
Saw Sideways last night. It had it's funny moments, had it's sad moments... but I'm not quite sure I'm close to enough to midlife crisis to totally get it. Still pretty decent.
I would like to mention that there is a funny Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trailer (http://www.ugo.com/channels/filmtv/features/hitchhikersguide/exclusive.asp) available...
Peace & Luv, Liz
I just saw Sideways last night. Great movie ;D :stabs:
'bout ready to go see the hitchhiker's guide !!!
UPDATE: i saw it last night and I loved it, it stuck to the book pretty well, unlike I,Robot ::).
Hum... I enjoyed "Hitchhikers Guide" but it could have been better... :'(
I thought they didn't slow down and enjoy the insanity enough... my two cents. The sound track was awesome! Buy it or download it from iTunes...there are three song on it that aren't in the movie.
Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy was a lot of fun. I thuroughly enjoyed it.
I just watched "SAW"... it's delightfully dark. Not for the faint of heart.... :-\
I saw it first day good movie. Some parts could have stayed closer to the book.
Last night i watched Woody allens Sleeper, and Pee Wee's Big Adventure :stabs:
Finally saw National Treasure...GREAT movie!
I bought five new movie DVD's the other day:
28 Days Later
(mmmm... zombies... okay, zombie like beings)
The Matrix
(had it, but my disc went missing)
American History X
(Powerful movie)
Big Fish
(Absolutely stunning and joyous to watch)
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
(Wes Anderson... can't go wrong... not as good as his others, but still good)
I was the only person in the theatre to bring a towel to see Hitchhikers. I liked it when they played the song during th title sequence because thats the song from the old tv show.
I just saw Star Wars Episode 3 last night! 8) It was pretty good, definitely the best of the three newer movies.
I would still say they could have edited it a bit better cuz it felt kinda long and boring during some parts. Overall, I'd say it's definitely a must-see! XD
Now that's some good STAR WARS! :D
Star Wars Episode 3 was definitely better than the previous 2 and filled in a lot of the gaps :D
Definitely a huge improvement, even though some of the dialogue was really corner and the relationship between Anakin and Padme still seemed unbelievable. :P
And not enough Wookiees.
And Yoda is a Force Pimp.
I saw episode three last night and I was really blown away. It was very entrancing...you could see how Anakin loved Padme enough to turn evil. I could have done without the "NOOOOOO" bit at the end, but what is star wars without a little cheese? All the tie-ins to the next chapters were very much appreciated. The scene between Mace Windu and the Emperor was ace too...did you see how he almost became evil too? I can't wait to see it again!

Mace didn't almost become evil. He was conflicted between the Jedi code and doing the right thing, even though it was against their code (killing the emperor)

Ah ok. I guess it was too hard to make the muppet hold a stick in those days. XD
I actually have to watch the old episodes one of these days. I don't remember watching them at all, well besides the: "<breath>Luke...<breath> I am <breath> your father!" :P
The lightsaber technique that Windu uses is called Vaapad...it draws some of its power from the Dark Side....that is why Mace was able to redirect the Force Lightning.
(No, I didn't know this offhand, I asked my resident Star Wars geek. ;))
Anyone going to go see it? Is it any good? It looked interesting, especially if one's seen the previous three. Here's the trailer: http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/scarymovie4.html
lol, that trailer's pretty funny. ;D
I saw the first two, but not the third. :P
The third's hilarious. It spoofs matrix3. :P
I've only seen the first one. :)
I've only seen the First and third. The first was extremely funny, but I thought the third was dull. I'm going to see number 4 if I can. (My parents hate me seeing R movies. I'm just not sure this will be R.)
I always love the films until Brenda dies. They just seem to go downhill from there. Looking forward to this one though, I'm sure it cant be any worse than Date Movie!
But if Brenda didn't die, Cindy wouldn't have gotten the tape... :-\
Hehe she's died in all of them! Cindy even died in the first one! They all pop their clogs over and over again, its great :D
This one is just like the music tread but this time about the movie of the moment.
My best movie at the moment is the serie earthsea
shara
Ella Enchanted! :D
I'm such a princess. ;P
are we allowed to discuss movies in here?
I would think so. :P
My movie of the moment is KING KONG (2005).
I loved that movie, but then....*points to sig*....I'm sure most people have already figured that much out. ;D
Farquhar, quick question: do you love King Kong?
The most recent movie I've seen: Bewitched! It was SO funny! :D

How does she die in the second one?
...
Omgosh you're right. And i call myself a fan!
i wanted to see firewall. was it any good?
OMG But, in this SM Brenda DOES NOT die, for once ;P
I've watched this week the movies:
the dark crystal
and
Labirinth
The last one is a very good movie. Goblin king o goblin king...
The Princess Bride is an awesome movie. I'm way too much like Buttercup. :P
Note: Never trust a guy in a purple dress, especially if his name is Humperdink. :P
I saw V for Vendetta last night. For the most part, it's very good! The acting is excellent, especially that of Hugo Weaving as V; he manages to project a lot of emotion, even behind a mask. Natalie Portman, suprisingly, did a great job as well.
I saw V for Vendetta recently too! I like the first two Matrix movies better, perdonally; they conveyed a similar message, but the work was more original in the Matrix. However, you gotta love Hugo Weaving! ;D <3
I don't have to love anyone I don't wanna. ;P
V for Vendetta wasn't all that great from my point. Not bad, but not that special either. I never fall asleep in movies, but I did in V. :P
King Kong... yup, I'm one of the few that didn't see it in theatre. Again, alright... but the cheesey lines kinda ruined it for me. Cheesey lines are good when they suit the movie... but when you're expecting a fully dramatic flick, it takes you a bit off guard.
16 Blocks was rather good. Mos Def... he always takes me by surprise because he's made a great conversion from rapper to actor. He's quite natural and plays the parts phenominally well. Bruce Willis was Bruce Willis. Solid, but nothing spectacular. Plot was also decent.
The Inside Man was pretty good. Clive Owen was good and Denzel Washington was great. There were certainly some different twists and different perspectives with the cinematography... but it was quite entertaining. I did enjoy it.

I can understand what you mean about unexpected cheeseyness. Fortunately, I got the idea that there would be some cheesey lines in the film from the online production diaries. So I was more prepared for it. :)
I still haven’t had the chance to see Narnia. I know some fans of the books didn’t care for it too much, but since I've yet to read them, I'll have nothing to compare it to. (Except the BBC production, which I haven’t seen in years.)
V for Vendetta looks good too. ;D
In wasn't all that impressed by Narnia. Lord of the Rings was a lot better. Tilda Swinton was good as the Witch, though.
Saw this last night and was presently suprised!
I didn't like 3 much so wasnt expecting much from this but it was really hilarious for the majority of the film. It dragged a bit near the end but the final scene was in my opnion the funnies of the entire film! That guy has Tom Cruise's mannerisms down to a tee!
Anyone else seen it yet?
I finally got to see Narnia last night, and while I'll agree that it wasn't as good as LOTR, I thought it was very good. ;D
Even though there are similarities between Narnia & LOTR, I think that they are very different in many ways, and I found that I enjoyed the movie more when I wasn't trying to compare it with LOTR.
Of course I might like the film less if I had read the novel before seeing it, but perhaps not. Making a movie has to be approached differently than a book, so deviations from the original material are usually inevitable.
The books rocked (read the entire series at least 5 times).
I haven't seen the recent movie but I saw the original movie.

Dude, buy some new books. XD
I've read 4 out of the 6 Harry Potter books 13 times, so I'M the one that needs new books. :P
I still have books I haven't read yet. XD
Yet, there's something to be said for nostalgia. ;)

I have. :suffer: Liked the whole thing. :) I disagree with what you say on the third movie though. Although it was the first I've ever seen, I don't think it was dull at all. It was just less gross than the fourth.
Now I really need to see this, but it doesn't come out hre until the 20th, and I don't feel comfortable downloading a bad-quality version as opposed to it's movie theater glory. :P
I didn't even know there was going to be an SM4. :D
*wants to go see*

But don't you know? The theatre brainwashes people into liking movies...how else do you explain all the people who liked Revenge of the Sith? :P
It's a conspiracy, and it might tie into Orlando Bloom's unnatural popularity..hmm...

That's actually a good point. I knew there was something fishy going on with theatres! XD
All of my sisters agree with me, and one of them managed to walk out the theatre and DISLIKE RotS. :P
Their mind tricks won't work on us...
Yeah, I mean it had action but otherwise it lacked. All the scenes without a saber fight were boring as hell.
The old films just seemed to flow nicely and had you intrigued the whole time. Sure RotS may have been good for some, but it still lacked the quality of the old ones.
That's my opinion anyway. :P

Well, it was good enough for me, anyways 8) .
I just saw it. That was one of the best.
Saw what? RotS, or Scary Movie 4? ::)
I was referring to SM4. I really liked the beginning. Poor cat, though :P
OMG why is it recently the children always get injured/ hurt in the scary movies like in Scary movie 3, Tody allways gets urt by George, and in this one it Rachel who gets struck by lightning and hurt by Tom? :P
-It's funnier that way :P
-People aren't expecting it until it happens :P
-Adults also get hurt, it's just noticed less :P
The only things I know about Scary Movie 4 I learned from Nicole. :P She says it was really funny, but I probably wouldn't like it. XD
Not much longer until the release of X3, or as it is now officially titled X-men: The Last Stand.
*Can't wait to see it!* ;D
We never did find out whether or not that girl dies in X2 at the end. ;)
If you read the comics from back in the day (70's,80's and 90's) you'd know the answer. I'm just sad because Remy won't be making a appearance.
All in all though it looks like it will be a good movie.
recently, I have been trying to watch all of the movies that I havent seen already on the top 200 movies of all time based on imdb. and the best movie I found out of the copuple that I just ordered was The deer Hunter with robert deniro and anthony walken. the movie is simply amazing and puts a serious spin on what happened during the Vietnam war.
also another good one was Platoon. amazing movie, simply shows what really happened in Nam.
the last great movie that I watched was Resevoir Dogs, usually i think tarantino is a piece of crap but this is seriously an amzing movie.

Me neither! Every time I see an X-men billboard, I yell, "ACK! X-MEN!" ;D
I am also looking forward to seeing X-MEN 3. The previews make it look like it will be really exciting.
CLERKS 2 is coming this summer!!!!!!! :D
*dances*
What was Clerks one about? ::)
Two guys who work in a convenience store and a video store... and crazy stuff happens. It's a true cult favorite done in black+white due to budget, made by Kevin Smith (aka Silent Bob). ;)
Clerks is one of the only Kevin Smith movies I have yet to see, as far as I know anyways. :)
Oh and I still need to see Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back too. XD

Sounds interesting -- Maybe I will see it
Silent Bob's da man!
This is sad. I have NO clue what you guys are talking about. XD
I'm probably going to see the DaVinci Code with a bunch of my friends from school once it comes out!!! :D

The Da Vinci Code & XMen3 are the two movies I want to see the most this summer. XD
I might see Mission Impossible 3 sometime as well, has anyone seen that yet?
I can't wait for X3! And then Pirates as well this summer! :D
The question is: will Jack Sparrow be drunker in the second movie? ;)
Well, it's kind of hard to surpass how dru--Wait a minute, he wasn't drunk much in the first movie, he was just... *does weird hand motions thing*
Yeah, probably. :P
Where do you think all the rum went? :P
Well, that was like the only scene, and Elizabeth made it go boom. :P
"But...Why is the rum gone!?"
Trust me, every time he was off camera, he was drunk. :P
But will he be more drunk in the second MOVIE? As in the filmed part. :P
i want to see x-3. it looks really cool especially after how the previous one ended.
I REALLY want to see X3!!!!
I am also sad that Remy LeBeau (Gambit) won't be in it. Also, about Jean Grey look closely at the ending and her death.
And for those who don't want to look:
[spoiler]
She ain't dead!
Wait. Remy LeBeau...Gambit...
So THAT'S where that comes from!!! XD
It took you this long to find out? *wonders if you're playing with a full deck...of charged cards, of course* :P
Well it's not like I'd ever willingly watch X-men. :P
ACK!! But WHY? Why don't you like X-Men OR Star Wars?!
Do you like Jurassic Park?

NO!!! :S
Jurassic Park was the cause of all of my nightmares as a little girl. :P
I dislike sci-fi. I dislike danger. I dislike scary things.
Well no horror for me -- I dislike that ;)

I haven't seen it yet, but it looks good. I didn't really care for the first one too much, and I've yet to see MI2, though I heard it was good. XD
I must admit that my main reason for wanting to see MI3 is because it's directed by J.J. Abrams, creator of LOST. With his directing style something like Mission Impossible could be very awesome IMO. ;D
I'm probably going to go see The Davinci Code.
My mom got this book called "Breaking the DaVinci Code." It like, disproves all of their theories, and it's pretty cool. :P
I've just watched the brothers Grimm
Ohh I like fairytales
ACK! The part with the kitten in Brothers Grimm!!! :o
I know :o, that's the only part about that movie I dislike. Aside from that though, it was quite good IMO.
A movie I enjoyed recently was Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. From what I understand, there were a lot of people who didn't care for it, but I thought it was a lot of fun! The visual style was really cool.
Personally, I liked, nay, loved Casanova. :P
*revives* XD
I saw Superman Returns a couple days ago, and it was pretty awesome! ;D Out of all the movies I saw this summer, finally I watched one that was actually good. Anyway, I highly recommend seeing it. :)
I just saw The Devil Wears Prada. It was much better than I expected, and Meryl Streep was awesome in it. If you want to have a good time (oh, and if you LOVE fashion), I highly recommend seeing it! ;D
I don't care what anyone says!! Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 was awesome!! Hopefully, the third one will be good, too. Apparently, they already have the third one filmed and everything. http://imdb.com/title/tt0449088/ (http://imdb.com/title/tt0449088/)
I hadn't seen the first one, so I wasn't sure if I should see the second or not. Should I rent the first one before seeing the second? ???
I wouldn't know since I haven't seen the second yet...but I think you should. Joel Seigle (sp?) says that PotC2 is better than the first...but you might want the back story! :P
I think I'm seeing PotC2 on Sunday, but possibly tonight. XD
I read a review about it that wasn't so great, and reminded me a lot of how XMen3 was, so I don't think I'm going to see PotC2.
The first I may still rent though. XD
I read some interviews about it, and it didn't seem that good, but I'm not going to pass up an opportunity to see Orlando Bloom. :P Also, I usually like movies better than their reviews. As far as I'm concerned, if they don't have the same exact script with the same jokes, I'm all for it. :P
Normally, I would agree that I don't listen to movie critics, I prefer seeing movies for myself. But, since I never saw the first one, and considering multiple critics have said this one wasn't up to par, I really don't feel like wasting $12 on it. XD
I've actually heard some people (even one movie critic) say it's better than the first. The Blur went to see it last week and said it was pretty good, but they did leave it open for the third film, which she didn't like.
Well I haven't seen it but my good old friend blew the ending for me so I'm not gonna bother going to see it. :-\
That sucks :-\ Someone did that to me with the ending of The Matrix Revolutions, and then there's my cousin who used to tell me the endings right in the middle of the movie. XD
Anyways, I saw POTC2 last night and liked it a lot. I wouldn't say that it's better that the original, but I wouldn't say it's worse either. It was a different movie from POTC1 rather than a rehash, which is good. Sequels that are practically the same movie as it's predecessor, are nowhere near as fun. The occasional reference to a past joke is of course okay as long as they don't go overboard. (No pun intended.) :P
One of the major differences, it seemed to me at least, was the tone. It felt considerably darker than the original at some points, though it still had lots of silliness too.
As for the ending, which was awesome IMO, it's sure to make you anxious to see POTC3. They begin filming next month, YAY!
I haven't seen POTC2 yet but I want to.
Please note that the Neverending Story is NOT a game! It is a book by Michael Ende and a series of three movies (the third rated pure rubbish) and a canadian TV Series called Tales from the Neverending Story. I do miss the movie, for it was one of my absolute favorite movies back when I was little. (Well, it wasn't too long ago now that I think about it... T'was only a few years since I had last seen it...) The Neverending Story was a very good movie, I heard the book was extremely good, though I have not read it before. I wish a fourth movie would be made, one to bring the whole concept back on track...
