Title: Psychobabble
Post by: Oldbushie on May 12, 2003, 08:18:16 PM
Hey, everyone! Feel free to post stuff about your inner conflicts/problems here...

I have a very interesting duality, I am a perfectionist yet I have a fear of perfecting because it takes so long. Also, probably because I don't want to become like my dad, who is a control freak due to his perfectionism. Any tips on how to deal with this?

I have similar problems.  I've been told numerous times that I'm a perfectionist, and I am, but I don't like to put in the time to actually make things perfect.  I dunno what to suggest, but I ignore it XD;

Heh. Yeah, I try to ignore it most of the time. It's just tricky with papers, I don't like writing papers a whole lot partially because it's impossible to make them perfect, but I never really perfect them a ton anyway when I do get them written.

Although... I have recently written a 6 page paper in one day and a 7 page paper the next, and my grades for the semester in those classes were still good! Yay! :) I think my writing is improving a bit.

And I discovered one good way to do it, even with things like cutting my fingernails (I like to make them perfect curves so they don't get all bumpy when they are longer). I do a bit of surfing, cut one nail to perfection, and repeat. It takes the strain off of the perfection a bit. Papers, too. I write a couple pages and fix them a bit, then surf, then write some more. I think all I really need is to introduce relaxation a bit into the perfection routines, and I'm fine. Just straight perfection though and I get all stressed out and cranky.
