Title: LucasArts Remakes
Post by: Jeysie on May 22, 2004, 07:16:32 PM
Apparently someone's made a remake of Maniac Mansion. I don't know if it's any good yet (mainly because I'm in the middle of downloading it right now), but I thought perhaps people might be interested.

you just need to get Day of the Tentacle: Maniac Mansion 2...and use the computer in Ed's room in the mansion and it will play the original MM1 (built into MM2)...tada

And Fate of Atlantis! I got that three-pack myself. ;D

DOTT and FOA were great games (I'd say I think FOA is the best LucasArts game I've played), but I still haven't gotten to play much of Sam & Max. :P

The only problem is that the DOTT version is the really, really old version. I'm not usually someone who cares about graphics, but the old version's graphics really are kind of ugly. :P It's probably because I first played MM on its Nintendo port.

Anyhoo. MM's a good game. It's one of the few LucasArts games where you can die, and IIRC it was the first (or at least one of the first) adventures to have true cutscenes and multiple endings. And it's got plenty of weird humor. :D

And it originated the awesome SCUMM engine. How can you go wrong with that? ;)

DOTT's graphics weren't that bad.  They were more like a cross between KQ5 and KQ7, but more on the KQ7 cartoonish side.  ;D  Very similar to Sam and Max's graphics. :)

Hee! Oops, parsing problem. I didn't mean I thought *DOTT*'s graphics were bad, I thought they were great! I mean that the version of *MM* that came in DOTT had lousy graphics! (sheepish look)

I thought you went crazy there for a second...ya the DOTT animation schemes were better than KQ7 I thought, but that MM embedded inside was just nasty...I just d/led the updated MM...time to bust out the point-and-click familiar fiesta

I tried Maniac Mansion a while back... couldn't really play it, but from what I remember it had crappy graphics and I couldn't tell what the heck was going on there... maybe that's because I got the french version :S

I don't like SCUMM myself... to much clicking. I'd rather have either Point & Click or parser instead of a compromise between them both 8)
