One more time: LIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD.
No idea what to do atm:
a) I got the package from the post office, unpacked, etc.
b) Investigated the crime scene, read graffiti. I have the "ghost" of the victim hanging from the pipe, when I look at the eyes, Erica mentions the connection between the eyes and the graffiti. (BTW, possibly a bug: when I left the crime scene and went for the package to the post office, the ghost was no longer there when I went back and I cannot use "projection" power again; the only active element of the crime scene is just the graffiti).
The game has a hint system, nicely implemented, but - sadly - completely useless and apparently a bit buggy (e.g. mentions "recording of the tattoo", but I have already photographed it).
Help? :)
I'm a bit curious how you got the game already as it has not been released yet.

Got it from GamersGate yesterday, lured in by the preorder bonuses. To my surprise, I could download the Episode One (around 2 GB) and the serial key was supplied.
Enjoying the game a lot. Well, except for the "I'm stuck" part :)

Once you've read the grafffiti and examined the ghost, there's a new area you can interact with in the crime scene. Try pressing space to show the labels and see what the ghost was "looking" at.

That part was a bit misleading. Not only the victim seems to be looking straight down (i.e. at the table or the soiled part of the floor nearby), but also the niche is outside the regular view and that's why I didn't catch when I did this earlier myself: http://i.imgur.com/PMPia.jpg
Anyway, I can confirm the bug there. Previously, I have done everything in the crime scene except for opening the niche and then went out to try different things. E.g. I got the package from the post office. When I went back to the crime scene, I could not "re-assemble" three objects to produce the victim's ghost anymore, and the niche is NOT activated as an interactive object (just confirmed this from a later save).
I had an earlier save, so it's all good, but thought you might want to know. Also, very minor thing, but you can keep sending emails to the morgue lady even after you resolve the problem with her and the geek guy :)

What resolution are you playing the game at on your computer?
I too am one of the obnoxiosly luck people who got this from gamersgate. (yoyu should check with them, I'm totally glad they forgot the game is coming out tuesday, but this is strange stuff to say the least) and I too am stuck. SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Have you retrieved anything from his wife's grave? If not, you should go see what you can find there. If so, that item will help quite a bit.
How could I ever forget checking there? By the way, despite some annoying bugs (crashes ramdomly during conversation sometimes), this game's freakin' awesome...

You'll definitely need to see the rest of that message under the graffiti. Once you've interacted with it and Erica knows there's more to see there, her buddy Terence can be of some assistance.

So, there are choices to be made throughout the game, such as who helps Erica with a specific task...Person "A" or Person "B". Does choosing one over the other change the course of the game or affect its outcome?
Yes, they will. You have been making choices in the game all along. They change how puzzles play out, who helps you and who doesn't, how difficult are some puzzles (try to take John's lighter if you don't cooperate with Rose, for example.), how cutscenes play (solve the wires puzzle vs not solving it), etc.
Like say....during an interrogation? A choice like that can affect the outcome of the game?
Oh, and is there a way to save more than 10 places? If, say, I make the "wrong" choice, or I'd like to go back (waaaay back) to make a different choice to maybe see a different outcome, I can't do that if I've overwritten the save just prior to making the original choice. I'm assuming 10 save slots is the maximum....I think for future games you might consider bumping that to 20, or unlimited... ;D
Are you playing on a MAC? I know at least the PC is unlimited for saves.
Your choices won't affect the final outcome of the game. They'll just provide a different experience for certain areas of the game.

I have over 80 saves on my Mac, once you break 10 it should just add a scrollbar to the window.
I have over 980 saves from testing. I don't know if it caps at 1000 yet but I think it's safe to say you're not ever going to run out of save room ;)
I think you need to make 20 more saves and find out :)

I am such a putz....of course it keeps scrolling! I just didn't see the scroll bar so I started deleting save slots... ;]

You know, I'm kinda stuck.. but I don't really know if it's just me, or it's kinda of a bug.
Let me explain:

I finally got the name and address of the guy who was hanged. I paid a visit there and checked on the computer. Once the PC prompts "Insert Memory Card", I clicked on EXIT (cause I don't have one :O).. but since that moment, I haven't been able to interact with the items on my inventory!! I mean, it displays the message that you can't do that when zooming or in scene areas. The thing is, I can't interact anywhere.. not on the map, nor on the FBI HQ.
Any hints?

By the way, I think I found some super minor bugs.. perhaps I can point you at them. Where should I post that info?

Might be a bit of bug funkiness. Zoom in and out of something else (the safe, the table, any closeup in any other scene) and that should set things back the way they belong.

I can also confirm this - same thing happened to me, which brought me here :) Thankfully I had an earlier save as well, but I was a bit puzzled and confused (especially not being able to use projection anymore at the crime scene).
I've been really enjoying the game so far - I think I enjoy it as much as when I played Gabriel Knight for the first time!
Definitely a bug here. I had all the pieces, including the "Help" for looking at the graffiti, but didn't know I could hit space to highlight interactive items, so I left. When I came back, I couldn't get the ghost to appear again, and there's no niche for me to select. Should have saved more often.

Well, yeah.. what I actually did, as zooming in/out didn't do the trick, was reload a case prior to finishing the interrogation with Robert.
Already beat the game!! Excellent, excellent job guys!! Looking forward to the next episode!

I'm also stuck [spoiler]in Longman's appartment. I'm after interrogation, I've got key and photos, but I can't "use" thos photo's pieces on anything. I can't zoom on them - each time I get an answer that if I want to zoom on something I have to first exit any close up scene. I don't know where to find a memory card or safe combination[/spoiler].
I would be greatfull for any help :)

[spoiler]Without giving too much away, I can tell you that you don't technically need to use the photos from the post office on anything, but if you investigate them closely in your inventory, you will discover something useful as it relates to the safe.[/spoiler]

When I use "eye" on them I get" these look like pieces of the same picture. Who is this person.
When I use "hand" I get: Tutorial: when zoomed in on inventory items or scene areas, you must exit this view before zooming in on another item - and I'm not zoomed on a scene or any inventory item :/

Attach your most recent save here so I can take a look, trying to figure out how people are getting that to bug out. The paths for saved game locations are:
XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\(Username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Phoenix Online Studios\Cognition _ Episode 1
Vista/Win7:
C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\LocalLow\Phoenix Online Studios\Cognition _ Episode 1
You'll need to remove any spaces in the name of the saved game when you attach it.

Yeah you definitely need to be able to get into closeups of inventory items to finish the game. Drop this save into that folder and load it and you should be good to go.

Same problem here. Also ran into this with the scanner/projector while at the crime scene.
It happened twice to me, near the end of the game. Then I tried to recreate the problem and it kinda worked.
It seems to take place when you skip conversations (perhaps, too quickly) when in Zoomed mode or in a particular scene (with the EXIT button active).
In my specific case, it happened when finished interrogating Robert. I was talking to John (the EXIT button is active) and I accidentally skipped the whole scene.. and the EXIT button didn't dissappear for a while. After that, I wasn't able to use any objects.

Anybody have any more info on when they started running into this oddity of not being able to zoom into objects? I've been trying for days to replicate this one, tried what ivanebel described, had my entire testing team take a swing at it, and no luck at all yet. I don't mind fixing saves but I'd much rather just fix the game for you guys!

The first time it happened to me was when I tried using the scanner at the crime scene.
Hi there :) I've been enjoying the game for a few hours now, but, sadly, ran into the niche bug. At the crime scene I can't use the cognition skills to make the projection appear anymore and the secret niche item doesn't pop up, so I am stuck at a dead end. And: I don't have a savegame :(
Would anybody be so nice to attach a savegame file of a moment shortly before this scene?

Also having problems zooming. Uploading my save file.
If I remember correctly, I zoomed in on something and wasn't able to zoom out. I figured out some way to get around it and to the save screen, where I saved my game, quit the program, then loaded it to continue.

Sorry, somehow I missed seeing this post. Load this save up and you should be good to go.
