So after abysmally failing to get Mask of Eternity working properly, I've decided to move on and start recording again. A friend of mine who discovered my channel has been asking me to do Amnesia, so.....
Honestly, I bought this game on a whim during a Steam sale; I wanted to support the devs but didn't think I would ever actually play it because I don't really care for scary stuff. But over the past few years I've been trying new things, so I figured I'd give this a go.
Whether this was a good decision or not remains to be seen, though. :P But at any rate, if anyone chooses to watch, I do hope you enjoy! :)
I feel I should mention that Amnesia will likely have swearing in it; not from me, but from the game itself. I can't recall whether I've heard any yet or not, but just be aware that it's a very real possibility, considering the nature of the game.

So this thread has been pretty quiet, which is fine, but I'm curious as to whether anyone is actually watching or not. The only reason I ask is because I plan to keep on making LPs, but I don't want to keep cluttering up the forums with threads about them if no one cares. :)
I got a pretty good response to my King's Quest LPs, but considering the demographic of this place, that wasn't really surprising. Plus, I was a lot more active back then as well.
Anyway, if no one is really following, I'll probably just stop making the threads after this one, at least until I do another adventure game. But if anyone wants me to continue, I will. I just didn't want Katie et. al. getting mad at me for a bunch of threads in which I'm the only poster, lol.
I'm planning on playing the game when I have a spare moment, so I'm avoiding spoilers. I do like LPs though! Especially the text+screenshot types since I'm half deaf.

Yeah, that's the only bad thing about LPs, they pretty much spoil everything. But I find them entertaining for things I've already played or have no intention of playing.
Too bad YouTube's captioning system doesn't seem to be very good yet. I just tried it on one of my videos and it was pretty nonsensical.

That was quite the interesting experience. If you're looking for a game to get your blood going, that will certainly do it for you.
So as for what I'm going to do next: I gave this a lot of thought, and decided to go for something more lighthearted this time, considering Amnesia laid on the drama pretty thick. Therefore, my next project is going to be Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. I've played both Lego Star Wars and LSW II: The Original Trilogy, but The Complete Saga, which I have not played, combines both games and, so I've been told, adds content and updates the sections from LSW I with the improved graphics, controls and gameplay from the second game. So it won't be completely blind, but hopefully there will be some entertaining surprises along the way all the same.
Considering the size of this game, I'm expecting it to take decidedly longer than anything I've done so far, but I'm looking forward to it. If all goes well, the first part should go up by Wednesday.
Also, considering that my King's Quest LPs have been relocated to The Silver Lining's Special Features section, I've decided to repurpose this thread a bit; going forward, I will continue to post all of my LPs in this thread. The original post will likely undergo a little redecorating to support this, and, as has been requested, playlists are being created. Hopefully consolidation will work out better for everyone.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed Amnesia, and that you'll join me on my next adventure!

You know what's funny? I had gotten so used to that sound that I didn't even notice until you mentioned it. I'll do something about that. I don't have a controller, no, but I'm terrible with them anyway, so even if I could get my hands on one (and I probably could), that would just be a pain.

I gotta say, the menus and the game itself feel very 'consolized'
I never really felt that it was consolized as much as it was just simplistic, seeing as it's targeted at a fairly young audience. But I guess that argument could be made. It was released on Playstation and Xbox as well as PC, so it's possible that may have had an effect on development, but honestly, considering the demographic, I don't think it would have been much different had it been targeted at just the PC users.
All that being said, wait until the flying levels in episodes 9 and 10. You definitely see a little consolization going on there, I think.
Oh I completely understand why they did it, but even the menus seem a bit counter-intuitive for a PC game :P

Might I recommend Bandicam? :P I talk about it a lot in my LP thread, but in my opinion, it's everything FRAPS tries to be but better. Also, MUCH smaller file sizes with no dip in quality. :)
how demanding is FRAPS anyway?
Well, recording at 1920x1080, my videos are ending up at about 2 GB/minute.
As far as system requirements though, they aren't demanding. Pentium 4 or higher and XP or higher. Best results with dedicated graphics (i.e. nVidia or AMD).

Double-header today. Last week I was absent; in the wilderness for a week of church camp, so to make up for it, I've got two videos for you. The reason I'm posting this now and not waiting until the upload is complete is that I need to head to bed so I can return to work tomorrow. I've been fighting off a head cold w/fever since yesterday and need to be in as good a shape as I can be, which means getting as much sleep as possible.

Almost as soon as it was posted, it was muted by SME; apparently at one point there was enough background music that was not obscured enough by my voice or the sound effects in the game that it was flagged as containing copyrighted content. Several of the Lego Star Wars videos have been flagged, but this is the only one that actually got muted for it.
I've used YouTube's process of "removing the copyrighted music" just to see how it works and how badly the rest of the audio is butchered in the process. It's currently in that process, but in the meantime it's been unmuted and should be viewable, so check it out while you have the chance, because I'm not sure what the final product will sound like.
YouTube has been rather Draconic with this sort of stuff.
that's why if I do start doing LPs I mighr just focus on old games whose parents companies either don't exist or don't care about the original games
Well, I submitted a dispute with YouTube. I don't know how the music removal process worked out because the video was muted again because of the music in a different section of the video. So at that point, I just went ahead and sent the dispute in. I believe what I'm doing constitutes fair use, so we'll see. In the meantime, I'm going to continue to upload videos; hopefully I won't have this problem again. :)

Thanks. My dispute has vanished from the Video Manager without any word from YouTube and in its place is another claim on the music in a different section than the previous two claims. Might just submit it again to see what happens; the whole claim process is automated anyway.
Okay, so Episode 27 is up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FT8xRnpQ-U). Once again, it was muted. Once again, I have disputed this. As of this posting, the sound in the video has been restored, so get to it while the getting is good.
I'm going to at least continue with these videos until I reach the end of the game. If the situation hasn't improved by then, I'm going to stop there; my original plan was to play more games in parallel as I recorded me getting 100% in Lego Star Wars (so that anyone who didn't care about the 100% wouldn't be left hanging for a while), but I'm going to ditch the 100% thing if this claim business keeps up.
We'll probably be going to System Shock next. It's a DOS shooter from back in '94 that birthed System Shock 2 and, by extension, the BioShock series. I've been working on getting it set up this afternoon. It doesn't play well with Fraps, and after the Camtasia/Cat Mario fiasco, I don't trust Camtasia's recorder, so I bought Bandicam and will be using that.

Look's like my latest video, after two disputes, is being left alone now, so I'm thinking I just have to keep disputing until it goes away. Normally, I'd think such a thing would be trying the patience of the Copyright Police, but from my understanding of the concept of Fair Use, I have a pretty solid foundation.
That being said, I'm going to go ahead and start System Shock anyway and run both in parallel. SS should have been uploaded long ago, but it got stuck uploading and I was away from my computer for several hours after starting it. I've restarted the upload and it should be done sometime this morning.

One has been rejected, and one is still pending. So for right now, the video is viewable by anyone outside of Germany.
Another option I may have is to finish uploading Lego Star Wars elsewhere (Vimeo, maybe?) and just move on to System Shock and Amnesia on YouTube. I'll have to look into that.

I'm going to try to upload another System Shock video overnight; not sure how well it'll go since I'm in a hotel room, but the wireless here seems stable and fast, so assuming it doesn't drop me while I'm asleep, that should be up by the morning (it's currently 10:00 EST here).
Oh, and yes, I know the last Amnesia video is very oddly bright. I used YouTube's Enhancements to crank up the gamma because for most of the video it was so dark you couldn't see anything, which is odd since I was able to see perfectly fine when recording. I'll be using my lantern much more in the future.

The original system shock had a pretty tough control scheme, but you seem to have a good handle on it
Thanks! It did indeed; it took me a while to get used to it. Something that helped was that before I got into System Shock I had dabbled in level editing for System Shock 2, and movement in the editor used a similar control scheme. But it's still a lot to wrap your head around when we're so spoiled by mouselook today.
Ironically, mouselook somehow doesn't feel right in System Shock. I believe I mentioned in one episode that someone managed to hack it in. It works great and the guy should be forever lauded for his extremely hard work, but somehow it just doesn't feel like it belongs. But then, System Shock also uses its laborious controls to its advantage; they create a much more tense atmosphere; you have to be more careful, because if an enemy surprises you, you can't whip around and shoot quite as easily as you can in today's games.

yeah I remember, Ultima Underworld (made by the same developer) had a bit of an obtuse control scheme, but was generally easier than System Shock.
System Shock's control scheme is really just all over the place.
Well, they really did the best with what they had, I think. They pushed the envelope in favor of giving the player more freedom and control, and I think it worked out, even if it's initially difficult to grasp. No one ever said games had to be easy. :)

I heard about Amnesia that should be a thrilling and great Horror Adventure?
I dont want to see spoilers or parts of the walkthrough u.u i apreciate that people are sharing their experiences and help other people in that way with the lets plays, but i dont want see to much from Amnesia thats why i am asking, how good is Amnesia?i really love good Horror Adventures, i liked Scratces and Phantasmagoria but somehow..Scratces was a bit too silent for me, i still want to talk to figures in the game and have a lot story to explore.

Amnesia is definitely worth your time. There's a huge difference between the first and second, though. The first Amnesia is scarier, while the second has more of a disturbing tone, and is focused more on story development. Neither of them have a lot of character interaction though, and what there is is scripted. But for the majority of both games, you'll be alone. If you can get past that, you'll have a great experience on your hands.
