Title: KNOWN MAC ISSUE - Mac Version Doesn't Startup
Post by: thelsdj on November 19, 2012, 01:08:48 AM
I downloaded MacDemo.zip. Extracted it, tried to run "Cognition - Episode 1", but nothing happened. I notice that the application also does not have a custom icon (Looks like a default XCode icon or something). I am configured to run arbitrary applications, so that is not the issue.

Any ideas?

Couple of questions for you on this:

1. Which site did you get the Mac demo file from?

2. Does your Mac meet all of these system requirements:

Including having an Intel-based processor?

I downloaded it from here: http://www.postudios.com/CognitionFiles/MacDemo.zip It extracts fine, but like I said, running the application does nothing.

Yes, my Mac meets the minimum system requirements and has an intel processor. (It is the latest MacBook Air as of June or whenever they put out the last recent ones).

And you don't get any errors or anything, just absolutely nothing happens when you double-click the app?

Nope, nothing happens. No icon in the dock, nothing. Also, can you confirm for me that the demo application doesn't have a custom icon? Seems weird that it has what looks like a default XCode application icon.

I wonder if maybe you didn't get the full file downloaded, it should have a Unity cube as the icon. Can you send me an email at weldon@postudios dot com letting me know what size the file is that you got downloaded, and also the general computer specs for your Mac? I just want that info so I can keep an eye out for anybody else who encounters the same issue and maybe has something in common with your system. We'll get this figured out for you ASAP, thanks!

Hi ,

Just to let you know I have the full game however the icon is also the xcode icon.

Check the screenshot.

But the game runs just fine (just dont clean the user cache files :) )

Thanks

For reference in case anyone else has this problem. The fix is to make the binary within the application directory executable.

If you have the application "Cognition - Episode 1" within your Applications folder you can open the Terminal application and type:

chmod 755 "/Applications/Cognition - Episode 1/Contents/MacOS/Cognition - Episode 1"

and then it should run!

I'm going to go ahead and sticky this topic so other folks can find it and see the solution as the same thing applies to both the demo and the full version of the game.
