BTW, are you sure this type of music makes nightmarez go away?
No but its the one you handed me ;P
nothing as a couple of sleepy pills to make it all go away :P
i dont need pills cos im sane :P
Quote from: Say on March 26, 2004, 08:10:34 AMnothing as a couple of sleepy pills to make it all go away :P
If you use sleeping pills too much, you become dependant (?sp) on/of them. No, I prefer the natural way of sleeping, no pills for me either.
Which is why I don't drink coffee to stay awake. ;)
Say: Have you tried warm milk? I hear some people say that helps induce sleep. Maybe some soft, calm music too. Or you could learn to meditate. That would help with the stress, too. :)
Or you could just tape the most boring lecturer at your college/university and listen to that. :D
Peace & Luv, Liz
Quote from: Jeysie on March 26, 2004, 05:05:00 PMSay: Have you tried warm milk? I hear some people say that helps induce sleep.
Warm milk and honey... XD
Plastic hammers perhaps? ;)
Maybe we should get Say a trip to a spa. Or one of those funky bubble bath sets at the beauty store.
And it's a rubber mallet that you're supposed to hit people with, if I remember my quips correctly. ;) At least, that's what my mom always threatened to hit me with when I didn't want to sleep as a kid... ;]
Peace & Luv, Liz
When i cant get to sleep i usually listen to hardcore dance music ;D
OR
I listen to Linkin Parks song called Session ;D, its a good song but its also calming IMO ;B
The rules are simple. No posting except for between the hours of sunset to sunrise in your part of the world. I completely understand that this may not in fact happen, but it'd be pretty cool if it did. ;) So, all you people of the night, feel free to post to your hearts content, and maybe just tell everyone a little bit about your day/evening, how you're doing, etc. (The possibilities are endless, no? XB) As for me, it's 1am right now, and I'm writing to a certain girl who's fallen ill... (And fallen asleep!) Your turn. ::)
Are we supposed to treat this similar to a "What are you doing thread"?
Or just some sort of generic posting of whateverness?
Anyway, it's 2:20am.
I'm waiting for pizza.
I'm trying to find the right words to also write an ill friend of mine.
I guess whateverness would be perfectly appropriate, since that's what our minds tend to wander to at this hour anyhow. ;) Pizza sounds fantastic right now, actually. Too bad nothing in this sleepy little burg is open past about 11. >:( Hopefully our friend(s) feel better soon though, good luck with getting those words onto whatever medium applies. Also, check your PM. ;)
Its 3 am and im eating pizza too, what would us insomniacs do with out it?
My best guess would be to shrivel up and die, actually. My personal 3am vice happens to be spaghetti tonight. ;)
3 am if it involves heating up or a fork its to much work for me.
Or anything more intensive than opening the top of a take-out box, actually. :S
Mlaa.
I went to couch at midnight.
I woke up at 4am.
I crawled off the couch at 6am.
I canna sleep. :-\
I wanna post here! I wanna post! :-X
lol :P
1:34 am :o, dont wanna sleep at the moment ;D, just finished playing RTCW ;)
Really hungry :-\
I'm stuck awake because I forgot to start washing laundry earlier. Blargh.
Peace & Luv, Liz
I finally remember to post in here! Anyway, I'm not doing much but catching up on forum posts. I'm about to go to bed soon too. ;P
Well, at least now I can guarantee that the other insomniatic people will be able to find me and keep me company from now on... ;D
Im up :D but Im sleepy :(
That's because I'm busy snuggling you to sleep... :lovegoggles: It's perfectly natural to feel sleepy in that case. ::)
I'm not an insomniatic. I just don't like sleeping.

Actually, it's just a play on words. I used to call myself "Black Night", but too many people use it, and that last movie gives it a new meaning.

I hope I don't offend you when I say this, but it's true. 8/10 of Texans say Texas is(and it is the largest on most of our maps). I've had Texans argue with me about it. I think that Americans have too much pride. I think Southerners(as in southern US) are worse, and Texans are worse than that(I'm talking about the average person).
Do you suppose that a bit of Texas money was thrown around when they were coming up with those maps? ;) "Here's 6 million bucks if you make Alaska shrivel up a bit. Kthx." ;-D

If you have any suggestions or songs that you HATE, feel free to PM me or simply reply to this post. Check out www.ocremix.org as well, they've got great mixes of almost 1200 video game songs and themes. Maybe choose some of your favorites from there? That is all. ;)
I'll just listen to FF radio.
This is for my own boredom, thank you very much... ;-D I'm just curious what everyone's favorites are. :)
If we're talking about any video game songs, Deus Ex(main theme)/Sonic Adventure(Knuckle's theme)/FF(main theme, and Eyes on Me)/Railroad Tycoon3(main theme)/Zelda(main theme)/KQ1(main theme, green sleeves) I'll think of some more of my favorite game songs, later.
P.S. If I misunderstood, please explain it to me.
Awesome little list there! ;D I'm actually familiar with most of them, and just listened to like 25 KQ songs this afternoon. ;) And did I mention I've been bored most of the day? ;P
Ocarina "Zelda's Lullaby"
You mentioned it.
I'm guessing the one you didn't know, was Railroad Tycoon 3(the theme was taken from a country song, as in radio).
Yeah, unfortunately I could never learn to love any of the Tycoon games, except for Roll Coaster Tycoon. I might have to check it out just for the music though one of these days. ;)

I used to play rollercoaster tycoon just to build a incomplete one and watch it crash.
Interesting... My dad's got a copy of it, and he plays it quite frequently, so I might have to break down and play it once or twice. ;B
I've got most of the music(from Zelda) in MIDI format on my computer.
Ah, speaking of needing a twelve step program... *sigh* ;)
Well, it's past 3, I'm logging off.
I'll try to think of a few more songs, that I'd put on my favorites list.
I was thinking the same thing myself, actually... Music is very important to a game's atmosphere, especially when something dies. ;) I'm sure we'll see you around in the morning or so, g'night! :)
ok i have a few game songs that are good IMO ;D
ok here goes: Wolfenstein Theme, Doom Theme, Secret of Mana, Battletoads, Donkey Kong Country, Zelda, GTA3, Kyrandia :D
Not enough ???, well if there isnt then i will have to think harder :P :suffer:
Devil May Cry 3 trailer music! OMG its just perfect. Apart from that I'd go with whats been said already and put a big second thumbs up for kyrandia.
2:20, not bad I may yet stay on till 3...
Two of the main songs from the Castlevania series, Vampire Killer and Bloody Tears, are excellent.

Actually, I think that the rules would be better if it were just between sunset to sunrise... ;) No specific time. In other news, I'm up to round 100 in Ricochet: Lost Worlds! A complete playlist of music is coming your way tonight as well, so stay tuned. ;D
Well, except up north, and down south, right?
In other words, the guy in Alaska would have to wait till 12:00, instead of waiting for 6 months.
Addendum to the thread rules #103: Posting must be made between the hours of sunset to sunrise, unless you happen to live in a place where the seasons are six months long. In that case, you can post whenever the @#$@ you want, because your luck's already bad enough, in my oh-so-humble opinion. ;)
Random Information
Wyoming is the only state with a lower population than Alaska.
Follow up random fact:
Wyoming also has more cows than people, AND has the highest housing costs, on average, of any area in the US.
Well, I guess that explains the population. Most people can't afford to live there, lol.
More Wyoming Info
The JCPenney stores were started in Wyoming.
More specifically, Kemmerer... ;) Wyoming was also the first state to recognize a woman's right to vote. :)

I'm not sure if all of these are true(I know some are), but they're good for a couple of laughs.
In Maine, it's illegal to catch lobsters with your bare hands.
In Louisiana, it's against the law to gargle in public.
In Quitman, Georgia, it is illegal for a chicken to cross the road.
It is illegal to a wake a bear for the purpose of photography in Alaska
In Hawaii, one is legally prohibited from putting coins in one's ears.
In New Orleans, Louisiana, fire trucks are legally required to stop at all red lights.
A local ordinance in Atwoodville, Connecticut prohibits people from playing Scrabble while waiting for a politician to speak.
I'm not sure exactly where it is, but somewhere in Arkansas, it's illegal to enter the town, unless you shoot a gun first.

Sleep when your dead, i really hate to sleep i like that quote i think my steinbeck, "Sleep how i loathe those little slices of death" or something like that i feel the same way i would rather be up as long as i can be.
Well, even us night owls have to sleep.
Anybody know what the world record is for staying awake?
I looked it up before when someone lied and said they had stayed up for 19 days i think the record was 11
I know I could stay awake for six, after that, I think I'd pass out.
longest ive done was probably only 3 i just dont sleep alot but i usally get some sleep every night.
Well, I'm logging out.
Good Night.
IIRC, there's been one night, long ago, when I couldn't sleep so technically speaking I've been awake for two days. I usually don't go testing that. When I have accumulated enough sleep, and I go to bed before my sleep cycle starts, I might lay awake for a few hours, but I fall asleep eventually.
When I look outside I see no stars, so it must be cloudy. However, the rain (& wind) from earlier this week has subsided and gone away, and now there's light clouds, lots of sunny moments and temperatures rising to the mid-20's (°C and during the daytime).
By the way, since I'm the king of useless trivia, I figured I may as well post in here and answer the above question... The current world record for staying awake is 264 consecutive hours, which is around 11 days. :o
Me and staying up late don't mix! I don't see how you guys do it at all. Yeah, I've had a few bouts of insomnia...but I'm just glad those don't happen often anymore!

i'm trying to decrease those moments too... but i just don't seem to succeed :S

You're not a wimp, Say... just that from what you post here, it sounds like you need to get more sleep and relaxation. Stuff like not sleeping well, too much stress, not eating well, etc., depresses your immune system and makes you more likely to catch an illness.
I know, that fixing that is all easier said than done ;P but seriously, if you run down your body too much you're more likely to get sick and then stay sick longer.

I can't post in here at the "proper" time tonight, because the electric company has decided it needs to shut off our power for a short while at some point after midnight. I *hate* it when they do that, it's such a pain in the butt to get everything reset again! At the very least, they could do it on the weekend or something, so you don't have to worry about flashing clocks and stuff right before you have to leave for work. Bother.

Last time our power was shut off it started at 8 AM, but we were warned a couple of days beforehand so we were prepared. I think it's very unlikely for our electric company to do that during the night, seeing as how that would disrupt many alarm clocks.
When there's a lot of rainfall in a short amount of time, somewhere there's a power conduit that's not properly shielded to keep it water-protected, so that triggers our electrical safety and 'poof' everything's down. Now when
that happens during the night,
then then you have a problem. :-\ BTW, my alarm clock is equipped with a possibility to retain time when there's a power outage, assuming you put a battery in there, but a) batteries are not environment friendly, not even re-usable ones, so we scrapped that, and b) I doubt that if the power's still out when the alarm's supposed to go off, the battery will do that too. Maybe we should all switch back to those old alarm clocks, the ones you had to wind up. :P

I can't believe that no one has posted here since I did so this morning! That's just wrong! Anyway, just got back from seeing Spiderman 2 (see "spoilers" in the Movie thread). Right now, watching my sis play Spiderman on X-Box...trying to get Koko to meow, but he's being a pain and has quieted down.
Cat
The Spiderman game based on the first movie, or the one based on the second?
They're playing the based on the first. We went to two different movie galleries...and neither one had the Spiderman 2 game in!
I was just wondering, because I haven't tried the second one. The first one was good(PC version), but it's extremely hard to get all the secrets. I still think the first mini-game was the best(multiplayer).
P.S. I'm hoping that you've found that mini-game already.
Wee, I can post here again! ;)
I actually don't use the alarm on my clock. As dumb as it sounds, I detest being jolted awake by the sound of an alarm so much that eventually I kept waking up constantly in the hopes of being able to shut off the alarm before it could go off. :P So I finally gave up on the alarm and just trained myself to wake up on my own. I actually almost always can do it, too. (Generally the only times I oversleep are either when I'm really zonked when I go to bed, or if I didn't go to bed early enough to get many hours of sleep. :P )
However, I did get stuck having to spend a hot sticky night with no fan. Grrr.
And I suspect the whole reason the electric company does that sort of thing at night is because that's the time that people are least likely to be actively using the electricity. I still wish they'd do it on the weekend instead, though. :P (They did warn us a week beforehand.)
And yay for J-R having a bed! ;) I slept on a couch for about 9 years a while back... didn't sleep in a bed regularly until I moved to Springfield a little over 4 years ago.

Actually, the alarm on my alarm clock is set to start playing the radio. The volume of the radio is set particularly low, in order for me to wake up nice and slow, and not being jolted. Ofcourse, the backside of it is, that sometimes I wake up too soon, so I stay in bed, I fall asleep again, and stay asleep until after the radio has played for 59 minutes, and shuts down. :P
Most of the times though, it works fine, and I wake up at the right time. In the weekend, or when I'm on holiday, the alarm clock time is set late enough for me to be either already awake when it goes off, or be sufficiently rested to stay awake. The reason why I go to sleep again during the week, is because I am constantly having a small sleep deprivation. I's 11:18 PM and very dark outside.

Really? I always find hotel pillows to be too thin and wimpy for my taste. But I agree with getting used to a new bed is sometimes hard. Easiest is just to stay up late or tire yourself out during the day, so you just pass out from exhaustion. 8)

I dunno what the temperature is/was in my room, to which the sun has absolutely no access (facing northeast, and shielded by nearby infrastructure from the east). It's not time yet to use the air conditioner in our house, we have sufficient sun-shielding outside (don't know how it's called) to prevent the sun from reaching the double-glazed windows and intensify its rays. When the temperature reaches 35°C (in the shade), that's usually when we turn on our air conditioner, which only services the ground floor. 8)

I never did, I kinda regret it, the sad part is like, I would have been more scared to actually BE accepted rather than not be accepted, man I have selfsteem issues :( oh well... BTW, I have two free subscriptions at Comics (http://www.comics.com). It used to be one (subscription, for two comics), but they changed their (free) policy, so I had to create another spammotel-address for the second one I was subscriped too, no bother. When I make a spammotel-address, I have to give it a name. Now, I named the first one "Snoopy by e-mail" (can you guess which comic I'm subscribed to?) and the second one just "Comics". The Snoopy-comic is now linked to "Comics" and the other one is linked to "Snoopy by e-mail". But, they both work, so I'm not much inclined to change that.

In XP Home, I was busy transferring posts to OE6, so I re-started it but the folder I was working in was completely empty. :o Thus, I went to see the folder, and suddenly my previous folder was renamed and had a '(1)' in its file name. The original one was still there, but it would seem OE6 had removed its link. So, I tried fiddling with the folders.dbx, renaming all the '(1)' links with the original file name, but that caused OE6 to fail loading again. So, I moved that file to another folder, and started up OE6 again, and saw it could re-create that folder. So no harm done. Hence, I moved that file again, and now together with the '(1)'-file. I started OE6 again, no problem, and behold, my (last saved) original folder was back! 8)

I just found out, that he was born in Shreveport, LA !!!
That's near where I was born, and raised. ;D
I think I'll pass on the Hank Bills Jr. :P
It's about 12:15am.
Just finished watching "Bubba Ho-Tep" with Bruce Campbell. Kinda cute, kinda fun. Good flick. :)
Also drinking grape juice.
Need to go to bed, but I can't sleep.
11:05 PM, unfortunately no (cooling) rain today, and temperatures climbed again. Temperature this morning was at 25° C, it was 29° C this afternoon when I came home and now it's 28.5° C. I have no trouble sleeping, it's the getting up that bothers me. Last night I also found out my IM-program seems to automatically log-on on start-up, and I don't recall instructing it to do so, but I don't mind. I just wonder what it'll do when I start up Linux without internet connection. ::) Goodnight everybody, I'm going to get ready to go to bed.

what a horrible stupid night again, I can't stand my head, my thoughts, I have this horrible feverish headache or whatever crap that is, I've been working but nothing can help me gather some inner peace and catch some sleep... normally I guess :(

yeah... Im gonna post it in the DA thread, don't worry
Whats the matter Say? :(
I just want to think of it as a bad BAD week, and look foward next week will somehow bright up, there is tons of s*** going on my head right now and honestly it's like killing me inside out, I have issues all over as anyone else, but there is something that has been keeping me awake and I won't be alright untill I know everything is ok, I just wonder when is that gonna be. When someone you love in going though a very bad moment, and you just can't do anything but sit (in the dark) and wait... it's just awful. Yesterday was the only day when I ate decently at least one meal during this week, I haven't been able to sleep very well.
Today is going to be a looooooooong day again, this week has felt too long, too crappy

Depends on a) How many mails I get, b) if, and when yes, how long my VPN-ing takes and c) how many time I've got left until bedtime.
It's currently 1:34 AM, and I guess I'll be unable to catch up on all posts today, so I'll go straight to the Asylum after I've finished my current batch of 4 open threads (this being the second one of those four).
BUT, work is done, so normally I should be able to catch up during the following week.
I should be sleeping...I thought that with all the work I did today and how tired I am, I'd head to bed early...but nooooo...not tonight...I have at least another hour to be up :(
Im getting sorta tired (its about 12:30 here) but i can't bring myself to sleep. I was up till 5 last night though...so I guess my sleep would be justified.
So why cant I sleep?
I guess ive just got a lot on my mind... :-\
1 AM and have a lot on my mind as well. :-\
Anyway, I'm heading to bed. Later guys.
Yeah its 1:30 now and i've done jsut about as much as one can do while sitting in front of a computer for 4 hours (that sounded...really bad). I'll force myself to sleep one way or another. :-\
It's 11:10 PM, I've got a
long] weekend ahead of me, so I can finally wrap up moving (and rereading some) of my e-mails from Win/OE4 to Win/OE6, and so on to Win/TB and finally Linux/TB. I've been getting interesting offers on inheritance money in my e-mail lately, it would seem my addresses have been picked up by the Nigerian spam-mob. However, when I get such an e-mail, and I read it, I can't help but laugh really hard. What else can you do when you get an e-mail with
Quote...intended to contact your esteemed self, following the knowledge of your high repute and trust worthiness. Firstly I must solicit your confidentiality...'
Yeah right ;P, first thing I did was mail it to my two best friends, and secondly I wrote to the e-mail addresses provided and asked for proof of what he was claiming to be. Guess what? No response.
Linux is slowly shaping up as well. I've now got KGpg configured, and it seems to be working fine after some fiddling.
I can sit in front of a computer for longer than 4 hours (although I might momentarily shift focus), but usually that's because I'm playing a game. ;-D
I also have no trouble goint to sleep, at least not as long as I haven't slept enough the previous night and have to get up early the following morning. And, once I'm asleep, I don't wake up easily. 8)
hee, I got about 3 hours sleep, so don't worry bout me :D

It's A LOT better than under 2 hours. I should know. :P
Heh, it's not A LOT better. Slightly, and only for the first few hours. Find a job that you can pass out for 19 hours (twice in the same winter) and then you'll learn what sleep deprivation is. :S
I've never had the problem. 8)
Now that I think about it, I had a reason to post late before, I have no idea why I'm doing it now. XD

Maybe I should have stayed down there. :-\
Three hours of sleep? I can imagine someone on call for life-or-death time-critical stuff like a military person or paramedic or police officer or firefighter or something getting little to no sleep regularly like that, but an ordinary person shouldn't be abusing their body that way. If nobody's at risk of dying, nothing else is important enough to run your body down that way... especially at our age! :P
Not to mention... how can you even function? If I get less than four hours of sleep, I'm completely useless mentally anyway. And even with four to six hours of sleep I'm still nowhere near my best. (And my best is pretty absent-minded to begin with, so, yeah.)

Mostly for Rob, although I know a few other people on the forum who it could likely apply to. :D
I was a bad girl during the Olympics and stayed up too late and only got 2-4 hours of sleep each night, and I felt like complete and utter crap. Not to mention it taking me twice as long to do all my tasks at work because I couldn't concentrate properly on it. Then I got ill, and my allergies started up. And I've been so busy on the weekends I still haven't gotten to catch up on my sleep debt. (reminds self not to go for a long time without a lot of sleep again)
I can think of more than a few occasions where Harrison will spend a long period of time doing nothing but running around a lot and not getting much "downtime", and them he'll end up getting sick because of it and missing out on several days of work and activities because he's ill.
Peace & Luv, Liz
I'm beginning to wonder if the reason I ended up so sick is because I had done nothing for almost two weeks, and then all of a sudden, I was rushing around for classes. On top of that, I had taken a break from my multivitamins, and thus my immune system wasn't up and running.
It's possible... lack of proper rest does depress your immune system functioning.

I got home, took a shower and went to bed, I was dead dead tired, I woke up around 3 am, can't sleep but Im still really tired, I have a headache now and I can't go back to bed :( oh and I work sat at 8 am, fun fun... :(

Plus, I have to get up early for the renissance festival tomorrow. :-\ But, at least it's gonna be hella fun. Even though i'll probably be up till 3 again...

8 AM is the time I wake up during the week, due to me being an evening person, so I desperately need the weekend to recover from a week-long of that. Therefor, having to go to work at 8 AM, and what's more, even on a Saturday, is definitely no fun at all. :X

22:57, and these past few days I've been very busy conversing with a Nigerian scammer. The latest info on this is I've received a notification from the 'Bank', asking me to provide certain details. It's 23:53.
lol, a good night sleep for me is 7 hours (or more, but that rarely happends) and 45 mins isn't that long ;) ...but I agree it's hard to get so much sleep on a work day :-\
Ofcourse, if I've got a deficit from during the week I caan sleep a bit longer than 9 hours, but when I dont suffer from any sleep deprivation it's 9 hours.

I'm an evening person, which means it's easier for me to stay up later than go to sleep sooner. And no, 45 minutes isn't that long, as long as you've got some 'company', even if it's just the radio. Reading would also do, but that's not something I'd do when driving a car. I've had the 'pleasure' of having a spare car (during the time my previous care was being declared a total-loss and sold to a merchant and my current car, which had ha a small bump to the rear and had to be completely rewired)

Its 22:20, and since yesterday I re-entered Scam-central, level 2 (or is that 3 already?). Communcation from the barrister, bank and justice department has seized, but there's a new player in town, a financeial security company. All very hush hush, so hush hush they don't even have a website linking to theirs. :sneaky: And what's really strange is that, besides a proof of my ID (ofcourse) they want a utility bill! :P
I'll keep you posted of more interesting developments as they come along! :gossip:
It's 0:51 and I just read the previous post. :(
Anyway, level 3 of my scam-investigation has been aborted (don't know why though) and level 1 has been continued. Yes, my Nigerian Barrister has contacted me again with the wonderful news he seems to have found enough money to pay for the documents I need to 'claim my inheritance'. The tone of his e-mail has also made me wonder if that securities firm I told you about (level 3) isn't connected with him. Due to that e-mail, and the fact my webmail no longer provides the e-mail address he's contacting me with (although it's still valid until end 2005), I had no choice but to copy all of my Linux Thunderbird settings&data over to my Windows Thunderbird settings&data. Ofcourse, this means I will now have to re-synchronize my Linux Tunderbird once I've solved all problems with that OS. 8)

Anyway, one week before DST, so it still gets dark at 10 PM (and, for now, a bit sooner too). Linux partitioning is giving me hell, wants to install the new version on my XP disc, and the expert can't see any NTFS filesystem either. Apart from that, I'm still trying to read up after 9 weeks of absence. Still stuck on page 3 (of this section) for the moment, but I'll get there eventually.
Have fun. It's like catching up with missed schoolwork, but more fun. :P

It's 2:20 AM and I'm catching up again with the posts on the forum because I finished my homework ahead of time. 8)

I forgot what homework was a few years back :P

There's homework and there's home(/)work. The first is a necessary evil to finish school, whilst the latter is a necessary evil to finish work.
BIG difference. I was talking about the latter. ;D
PS: It's 00:45. 12:45 AM sounds too awkward, to me it sounds like the day hasn't ended yet. 8)

Hardly. Sleep is what keeps us from totally losing our minds. My brother went over two days without sleep once, and still hasn't recovered from that incident. :P
....maybe that's my problem... XD
Michael doesn't sleep...
Yeah, that's what happens. :P
Like I always say "Sleep is overrated"
Even though I slightly disagree with that these days :P
Sleep is by NO MEANS overrated. It revitalizes you; it makes it so your body can actualy function properly! ;D
It also makes it easier to keep track of things. If you don't sleep, the days start getting blurry and running into each other, and you get confused. (I thought it was MONDAY!) :P
Do you not sleep? Some people don't want to (JASON! *warning face* :P), but I'm not one of those people. ;D

Pat McGee said that he would play at my high school if I got in contact with him. :P

Yep. I feel like I should try another email though, the one I sent the day after the concert hasn't gotten a reply. Has anyone sent emails to a band before? :P

Now I lay me down not to sleep
I just get tangled in the sheets
I swim in sweat three inches deep
I just lay back and claim defeat
Chapter read and lesson learned
I turned the lights off while she burned
So while she's three hundred degrees
I throw the sheets off and I freeze
Lids down, I count sheep
I count heartbeats
The only thing that counts is
that I won't sleep
I countdown, I look around
Who needs sleep?
well you're never gonna get it
Who needs sleep?
tell me what's that for
Who needs sleep?
be happy with what you're getting
There's a guy who's been awake

My hands are locked up tight in fists
My mind is racing, filled with lists

Hmmm...the way I learned it, all the stages were REM. Oh, well...someone might've gotten their facts wrong. :-\
On the East Coast it is approximately 9:20 right now. :P
There are actually five stages of sleep. 1 and 2 are light sleep. 1 is almost like when you are day dreaming. 3 and 4 are deeper and more resting and harder to awake someone from. The 5th stage is you "REM" stage. This is where you have your vivid dreams and you have Random Eye Movement. You also get the best rest during this stage. I am hoping I remebered all of that correctly from last semester. But there ya go a quick overview on what I had to listen to for two hours. ;D Lucky you guys.
Thanks for the info and for making me :sleepy:. :P

Stage 1: The eyes are closed during Stage 1 sleep, but if aroused from it, a person may feel as if he or she has not slept. Stage 1 may last for five to 10 minutes.' :scholar: '

It is a fact REM-sleep sorts your memories and thus enhances your mental condition, but I'm not sure that sleep is the best one for your
physical condition. :-\
It's 23:10, nearing the end of yet another very hot day. :sweating: Also a very tiring day, we went on a boat trip @ work, during which we had to pass three locks, two of them only once, one twice. Since our boat had no priority over commercial shipping, I estimate we had to wait a total of 2 hours (altogether) to be allowed to enter the locks. :-\

Quote from: Louisiana Night on July 04, 2006, 10:02:00 PM
Well, there are 4 "NREM" sleep phases(I believe, don't quote me on that ;P)... so that could be the confusion.
Of course, it's only a matter of time until they come up with a new one. ;-D
Probably...the handouts I received didn't distinguish between NREM and REM.
And I agree with you completely on your latter point. They'll discover a sixth stage soon enough...maybe that is where lucid dreaming could be categorized. ;P
That's where you can kinda control the dream, right? I think I had one of those...I was jumping 50 feet in the air and doing flips. XD
Another time, I had a dream where I realized I was in a dream, but I still couldn't affect it.
Lucid dreaming is when the dreamer has control over their own actions/the ability to affect the course of events during a dream. Usually, there is one character within a dream (the "wild card") whom the dreamer cannot control. Both Jung and Freud (the former was allegedly a lucid dreamer) detail these concepts in their works on dream.
Those dreams are always cooler. :P I can't control anyone but me, but if I think someone will react one way, they usually do. :P
If you want to become a lucid dreamer, simply keep a dream journal and record all of your dreams and dream fragments in it. Then, your dreams will become more clearly defined and themes will be more obvious to you. Eventually, you will be able to control them. ;D
Typically, I can control my dreams.
Does that mean I'm special or cool in some way? XD
Hmm...you could be psychic, or some kind of destined chosen one. Then again, you could just be really lucky. XD
I like that whole "destined chosen one" idea. :P
YOU MUST SAVE HYRULE!
Or something. XD
It would be fun to control my dreams. Maybe I will start writing down what I can remeber. Ill have to get back to you all on that. Who else wants to keep a dream journal?

Quote from: Lollotte on July 05, 2006, 08:41:15 PMIf you want to become a lucid dreamer, simply keep a dream journal and record all of your dreams and dream fragments in it.
Most of the times I wake up from a NREM-phase, and in those rare instances where I wake up during a dream, that dream usually fades from my mind even before I actually get up. :-\
EDIT: it's almost 4 AM, and the hot weather has passed. Now it's just warm weather, but since the temperature in this house is usually trailing the outside temperature by 5° C, everything is peachy. :D
Well, if you don't remember the entire dream, just record one aspect of it that is still fresh in your mind. If it is still dark out when you are writing, use a small light so that you don't wake up all the way in the process of writing.
It's 4:00 AM and peachy where you are? Mmm...sounds pretty. ;D

PS: It's no night (yet), all thanks to that stupid thing called DST, meaning, according to the human clock, the sun stays up

I usually get about seven, sometimes less but rarely more. The sun stays up until about 9:30-10:00 here. I've heard it's up all night in Sweden (well, until midnight).
It's about 8:45 and the sun is just going down now.

If I got up at about 7 AM, I can stay up until about 4 AM, but that's it. Ofcourse, if I stay up until 3 AM, I won't get up the following day at 7, but rather at noon. When I have to get up at 7, I (try to) go to sleep at midnight, but it's really hard. :-\

Yeah now it is 11:39 and I am finally at home where it is quiet and peaceful. I don't have any kids running around getting dogs excited. I don't have any big plans tomorrow but I will probably go to bed soon....
It's 10:50 PM, I've been packing up for tomorrow, and only have a few last-minute items left. Preparations have been made to at least have this house appear to still be lived in, but I have good locks protecting the entrances to my home too. 8)

OMG!! :o Pacman actually used caps (lock :P) and apostrophes?! :o
if its caps lock, it doesnt count. :P
But the apostrophes do. :P
the caffene made me more awake and made me notice the apostrophes.
It's now 00:48 and in a while I'll be playing Dreamfall: TLJ because my ADSL-connection does not seem to want me to play an online MMORPG atm.
5:01 AM here. :P
its only 2. *cries* no ones online!!
It's 23:37, my ADSL connection let me play my MMORPG again earlier, but I've gotten nowhere further on my endeavors.
its 00:19 (man thats cool :P) and oddly there are too many people online.
It's 23:27 and about two days ago I became an official Protector of Tyria. :P

It's 23:53 and I'm discussing possible future career moves. :P
Oh wow its dark here and its 2021. where do you get golden sun gold passwords i would love to find one. HAHA
It is getting darker earlier...it's 18.50, and the streetlights are glowing outside. Of course, I'm doing Spanish. :P
its 00:33. im dead sore from karate.
It's 0:04 and the evening before midnight I haven't discussed anything interesting. :-\ :P
It's 00:13 and I'm about to play some more RPGs.
its 00:28 and im trying to read. shhhh!!
00:28 watching Scrubs, foruming, and wondering when I should get up tomorrow...
It's almost 7 am (the sun is JUST now coming up :P) and I've been awake for about 30 minutes already :( So much for my last day of really being able to sleep in.
Why is Cat the only one not using a 24-hour clock? :P
Aww.. :(
If it makes you feel better, I was up until 2:30 last night with my mom working on stuff, and I had to wake up at 5 today. XD
And Jafar, maybe it's because we don't use 24 hour time here in USA, remember? :P
And...what was your mom helping you with? :P
Nothing. I was helping my mom with stuff. ;P

Yeah I use 24 hour clock also. Course I have no choice if I didn't I wouldn't get paid my full amount of money from work. ;D
It's now 00:47.
It is 2056 and I am waiting for my lil bro to call and then I am heading over to his house. It is nice and cool outside.
It is now 2137 and i am eating hotdogs i just made. I'm starving (not literally) cause I had to eat dinner at 1330 cause of work schedule today. HAHA It was fun.
its 00:15 and im just now seeing that patrick double posted in 41 minutes. :P
AAAHHHH I am sorry!!!!! Wait why? There are no rules for posting on this thread. Well prob just no spam. Oh well. Later yall!
Bwahahahaha! For breaking the holy anti-double posting rule, I hereby sentence you to PUT THE MOON BACK IN THE SKY! :P
...I need sleep. XD
Ummm I read your mind and already put it back. Its not real late here only 2225.
It's 06:43 and I'm totally shocked that the sun hasn't come up yet. What ever happened to sleeping in? XD
It's 9:14 and I'm boooooooooored!!!
9:22 and I'm exhausted from the yard sale today. Amazing how five hours in the sun absolutely drains you...
Its 2332 and I am waiting for my parents to get home from visiting my odd aunt in Oregon, so I can help them unload their SUV.
So, it's 10:52 PM, and I am BOOOOOOOOOOOOOORED!!!!11 *Tries to think of something to do*
its 00:31 and i dont wanna go back to school
8:07 in the morning and I'm waiting till I get my network connection for work back again. (probably someone unpluged us) So at the moment I can't work but can use the internet. The people over age 50 can use the network :suffer:
It's 23:33 and I think I'll be heading over to bed in just a few mins, right after I've read the new posts in the Asylum thread, and replied to (some of) them.
The last two days I totally slept through my alarm clock switching on the radio for 30 minutes! And it was already rather loud, so I need to put it louder still. Having such a deep sleep you can even sleep through a mild earthquake can get annoying sometimes... :-\
It's 8:54 and I'm eating supper after class tonight. Headed to bed soon because I have a 5 am morning tomorrow :P
It's 5:14, and I'm concentrating on NOT falling back asleep. As far as I'm considered, this IS night. ;P
11:34 and I'm thinking to take some candies or wait for halve an houre for dinner.
For the rest I dont want to work anymore today but I have to.
5:42...I've been up for 42 minutes...it's still dark and foggy...time to find some food.
It's 02:05, and I'm surfing, listening to straming radio and downloading like hell (ofcourse, with a 1Mbit line, hell is not that far away). :P
It's 11:43 and I'm thinking I should go to bed but resisting...
5:46...and I don't like having to wake up almost an hour before 6!
5:46 is just a quarter of an hour before 6. :scholar:
It's 23:47 and after having put my  in the Asylum I'm going to log off completely from the forum. (With my persistent cookie and me not clicking on 'Logout' but just closing the window, I don't know how to properly name it anything other than 'logging off'. :-\)
8:45 and tired :P
It's 5:50 here, which isn't exactly late. I'm tired too. :P
It's just past 23:30 and I'm going to get ready for bed. It's been a long time since I got ready for bed in time. ::)
22:42 and I have tests tomorrow and I'm busy posting. ::)
It's 23:43 and tomorrow I'm going to go teambonding whilst walking a few kms in Brussels. 8)
PS: What, the forum's accusing me of double posting? ::)
It's almost 8:00. I finished my test about an hour ago...and I'm tired now. Eating supper and gonna just relax. I haven't been able to relax in FOREVER!
It's 8:00 and I'm waiting for Vildern to get online. :P
It's 6:25 in the morning and I'm getting ready to go to my parents house for the weekend
It's...well, late. :P
I can't sleep. :sleepy:
Actually, I'm not really sleepy...ignore that last smiley. :P
Washing clothes...this late is the only real time I can use the washing machine, so there's a plus.

I need to get this place straightened up...paddles here, a jump rope there, and a "Cyber" bow across the room. Ahh, marketing. ::)
I'm cold...well, it's probably not really cold, this being Texas and all. :P
I think my clothes are done.
Yep, done. Drying now.
Now that the days are cooling off, I'll probably be able to go walking again...that'll be nice.
Am I the Myspace type? My brother thought so, and I was greatly offended. :P
Aww, the crying smiley has a tear frozen on his face.
I don't see how anyone can like the changes in the Star Wars SEs. I mean, they took out the Ewok song! And put Hayden in Return of the Jedi! And...*rant rant rant*

*agrees wholeheartedly* That's not even a fair generalization in the first place... and it lacks definition... or I'm tired and easily irritated presently...
I'm not a mod, but I already don't like the direction this conversation this taking. :P Let's just drop it and stick to the topic, it can only lead to hard feeling.

I think he was referring to people getting at each others throats. XD
...I wasn't "getting at [anybody's] throat"... I was being logical: it is unfair to categorize everyone who isn't on MySpace as actually having more problems than those who are on it... it also can't be made as a logical argument unless one happens to know about the lives of everyone on MySpace... but look, I didn't reply to Yonkey's post because I decided to really drop it after my post. If Yonkey or anyone wants to continue the conversation, he can PM me or email me, but I don't feel like having a logical debate on the forum... to put it another way: I'm lucid at the moment and I still support my position that the generalization is unfair and that the issue of "problems" lacks definition, but I'm also lucid enough to keep any discussion of this off the forum, all right?
Hahaha, yes that is what I meant. And its 10:42 in the morning here. :P
People make unfair generalizations all the time. I was just simply stating an observation. ;) But I agree, there's no need to continue the conversation. :)
Anyway, let's get back to the topic, I'm a Night Owl. 8) How many of you guys are?

I've killed my biological clock and the only person here, who could tell me when my brain stops functioning, would be you. :P
I have pulled one all-nighter that I can remember. I don't recall having any all-nighters in college... I think I may have tried once... but just couldn't do it...
So, the one all-nighter I pulled was in the 6th grade. I had to do a "My Nation" notebook. Only my school, in an effort, I believe, to stave off the development of narcolepsy in its teachers required us to each do a different nation (instead of everyone doing a "My Nation" notebook on the US as the textbook provider who provided the notebook had intended). I had to do Iceland, and being in 6th grade and not having done this type of project before (the textbook provider provided things like My State notebook, My [...] notebooks for earlier grades, which the rest of my class had done but I was new to the school and so hadn't done them), I put it off to the last minute thinking it wouldn't be any more or at least not much more involved than previous projects that I'd had to do. My dad, my sister, and I were up until something like 5 in the morning finishing that terrible thing. *still has an initial negative reaction at the mere mention of Iceland* *shudders to think about it*
That is why you shouldn't pull all-nighters: Iceland. :P Or, at least, that is why I don't pull all-nighters.
Mine was last year. It was at a gym and we did a lot on tiring stuff there.
It's 1:06 AM. I'm up because I stayed home sick the past two days so I got to sleep in. This is very bad for a number of reasons. :P
1) I have to get up in 4 hours.
2) I have my CIW certification exam tomorr--Er...today.
3) I have a sleepover/party thing Saturday night, so there's no way I'm getting sleep on the weekend. XP
And I've pulled all-nighters lots of times. XP Freshmen year, all of my bus-mates thought I was absolutely crazy because I'd come to school with 0-3 hours of sleep most days. I had time-management/homework issues freshmen year. :P This year I haven't had to go without sleep entirely, but I did stay up until 3 one day (keeping in mind I get up at 5) because of my calculus scrapbook. It's this recurring assignment where every 2 weeks we have to add another section to our "book" (which is, for most people, a power point. I have a website,) about, well, calculus-type stuff. It's a lot of work. XD

Oh no. :( Hating Iceland is very wrong indeed. :P

I have pulled one all-nighter that I can remember. I don't recall having any all-nighters in college... I think I may have tried once... but just couldn't do it...

My sister did something like that last year. She had a video project due, and her team members came over to do the last half of it the day before. Eventually they had to leave, and she was going to finish it up. By the time she did, it was already getting late, and then stupid windows movie maker crashed everytime she tried to save it as a movie file. Her, me, and my dad were up till 1-2 in the morning trying to get it to work; she eventually just copied the project and all the files it needed(which was a lot) and ran the project inside WMM during the presentation.
*shudders* Stupid school projects...I always hated that they made you stay up way too late doing them and then made your insides boil being nervous about presenting them :P
One of the advantages of being homeschooled is that I never had to worry too much about that sort of thing. I never had to worry about group projects for better or for worse. :P
Ah, and it's 4 Am. :P

Really? Did you ever have to participate in group activities (like charades or plays) at family reunions?
Reunions? The only thing we do at our reunions is eat (a lot) and talk (also a lot). No plays or anything like that. Most of the people who actually show up are middle aged and don't see each other except at the reunion, trying to get everyone to do a play would simply never work. :P
That said I was on a debate team for a year and planned activities like the math games tournament for a pack of 6th graders, so it isn't like I have no experience working in groups. It just wasn't part of what we counted as 'school'. :P

Ugh! I did. When I took AP Physics, our teached decided to give us a project that they did at MIT - build a device to play tug-of-war with someone else's device. It was a cool concept, but I didn't have any kind of engineering experience. I knew my partner's idea wouldn't work, but I couldn't say anything because I didn't have any better ideas. :-\ That was one of the worst classes I ever took - the teacher didn't even teach us anything; he just told us stories about when he lived in Russia and made crude jokes. >:( Fortunately, I had a really good physics teacher in college, and calculus-based physics made SO much more sense to me!
I'm still kind of upset I didn't get to take AP Physics this year. There was a bit of a scheduling conflict. :P I have the same teacher, just no AP credit.
It also bugs me because I stare at something for 20 minutes until I suddenly realize "OHH! It's just CALCULUS!" and then it makes sense. :P
It's just past midnight, but I'm exhausted. I have a powerpoint to do on W3C (which I realize I'm not helping by posting,) and probably some French homework I don't know about. On the bright side, I just have a slide on CSS to do and I'm done. :D

XD I know what that's like. I'm taking an electronics materials course, and we were asked to derive a certain equation. But in order to do that, the one basic equation had to be at a minimum, and I couldn't figure out how to do that, until I realized that all I needed to do was take the derivative.
It's 5:00 and I'm up. :P

you just woke up, or you have been up all night? it's 11 and i'm up
If I'm up that early, I've stayed up all night. :P
Ahh, I usually go to sleep at 1ish and wake up at 4 on weekends :P
And here I thought weekends were for sleeping in...
I think he means four in the afternoon. :P I slept until two myself. XD
yes, thats what i meant. ok, it's a little exaggerated, but.. you know. :P
How can you guys sleep for that long? I get headaches if I sleep for more than 9 or 10 hours. :P

i dunno, i don't sleep that long except weekends. and I go to bed late in those cases, but your right it's still long...
Hey, I only got four hours of sleep. XD I was making up for lost time. :P
heh today i got 5. :P

It doesn't feel like 9 or 10 hours of sleeping if you're super tired. It feels
good to me, but I'm one of those freaks that loves a good nap. ;D
ahh. i don;t like naps, but i think i might when I;m older.
I usually don't have time for naps. :P
And my biological clock is dead again. XD *was up until 5*
I just want to say that naps are beautiful gifts from god. XP
So it's 3:13 AM. I don't think I'm going to sleep tonight. I mean, I could sleep for a bit between now and 6 if I were tired, but...I'm not.
I've pretty much finished my college application process for applying early decision to RIT, finished my application for the National Merit Scholarship, have packed my stuff for a trip to my mom's apartment, and MAY have done my chorus make-up work (or I may have just spent 20 minutes critiquing a choir I can't use for credit).
I still have database homework to do (which will take 30 minutes max), and a lab report to rewrite (which may take up to 45 minutes depending on how much I have to rewrite/how distracted I am). I am not tired in the least, and it's kind of bothersome, considering the fact that I have to be awake to drive between 6 this morning and 6:20 and later between 2 and 3 this afternoon. :P
There is no reason I should be awake, and yet I am. Is it application stress? General stress? Ennui? XD
Maybe it's just my general night-owl-ness. Either way, all I have to do is homework that isn't due until Monday. Also, senior year is amazing. The amount of homework is a huge relief after junior year. XD
Glad to hear, Kels! I can't believe it's your senior year...where has the time gone?
Quote from: Rosella on October 09, 2009, 01:20:28 AMAlso, senior year is amazing. The amount of homework is a huge relief after junior year. XD
Senior year is the shiz. I absolutely HATED my junior year, that's the year of AP classes. :X Senior year is playtime, and the teachers know it.
Congrats on your Senior status!
I'm a year from being 10 years out of high school. *shockface*
Senior year of highschool was fun! Even senior year of university was much better than the previous years. You still have your share of classes that are insanely difficult, but there's also a nice range of classes you actually like and enjoy. There's even a few extremely easy courses tossed in, which always rule. XD
But, I think it's the whole notion of "Dude! Just a few more months and I'm outta here!" that makes the whole year a lot more exciting! :P
