Title: Awesome Looking Kickstarters
Post by: Oldbushie on February 05, 2013, 02:10:43 AM
Since I couldn't find a thread for this, I'll make my own. :) What awesome Kickstarter finds have you seen lately?

This one looks freakin adorable:

Interesting - this game has been Greenlit, and it isn't even funded yet.

Very nice! Monsters stole my birthday cake looks adorable. And I've seen Asylum videos floating around the internet so I'm glad to see it's moving forward. Not sure whether it can make its high goal, though.

Oh, here's my suggestion:

It's a game in which you guide a tribe through a harsh environment. The choices you make are incorporated into the tribe's history and culture, which I think is a really interesting idea. :P

Yeah, I saw that one too. :) I usually don't like turn-based strategy games but it's got an interesting story angle. I doubt they'll meet their goal but I hope they continue on!

Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey!!

I've gotta go replay those games. Or at least watch an LP!

@Oldbushie: yes, I've not played many turn-based games, but it's the narrative aspect that interests me. Apparently when you make choices, your tribe acquires an attribute which will affect their culture. You can take one attribute per game and send it away to the player's other tribes, and then it will become a legend and will affect all the player's future tribes, except moreso - so any positive OR negative attributes of the original attribute are sort of amplified when it becomes legendary. The twist is, you can only do this once per game, and if you send the attribute away, you (the sender) can't use it again.

So this means you *could* send a really crippling attribute away if your game is going really well and you want to do without it - but then the problem is, all future games will have to deal with that attribute, in a more extreme form. Or you could decide to send a really good attribute back, but since you can only do this once per game, you might want to wait for a better one to come along - and while you're waiting you might get your tribe wiped out. :P

@Katie: yes! I loved TLJ though never got round to playing dreamfall. Hope this goes ahead. :)

I really want to LP these games in preparation but I cannot get TLJ to work nicely with FRAPS. It just shows black screens when the game is playing a video and it glitches out the subtitles. :-\

You might have to try switching to a software renderer in that case, not sure if that's doable with a game. I did that as an option in my video player once when I was trying to screenshot a movie.

I doubt he'll make it though. :( But I'm glad to see he's still keeping busy!

I've backed both Dreamfall Chapters(huge TLJ fan) and Asylum(loved Scratches) - the only two Kickstarters I've pledged to aside form Cognition. ;)

I really hope Asylum gets funded. I think it will, but just barely. Only a week left. But considering how good Scratches was, and how good this looks, I'm amazed it hasn't gotten more money yet.

All the Kickstarters I've looked at lately have finished, but done so with glorious success!

Obviously, Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption being one but also this Sui Generis (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1473965863/sui-generis) RPG looks amazing!
There were some others but I can't find their pages anymore. Oops. :P

Mages Initiation, I've been waiting for that game forever and oddly enough feels more like a Quest for Glory game then even the game that was meant to feel like a quest for glory game (a game I only supported because I felt guilty for harping on it because I always harp on games).

Ohh yeah Hero-U that was the name of the one that was dirrectly trying to make a call back to Quest for Glory.

I am glad Mages Initiation is still being made.

As for the rest of these. I REALLY don't want to start saying how I really feel about a lot of these (especially Sui Generis) as I want to at least be tollerated here. So off I go into the yonder!

I believe the current schedule says Oct 2013, but to me that looks doubtful. My guess would be beta around then with release Q1, maybe even Q2 2014.

But that's just a guess. The "official word" is still Oct 2013 as far as I know.

Mage's Initiation hit its funding goal in the middle of the night last night.  Now they're past 70K.  Makes me wonder how well we'd have done if we'd set our goal a bit higher.  Of course, they have a lot more games under their belt, too.  :)

Oddly enough I only care about the stretch goals up to the 95k

Past that they are entirely uninteresting. Even the animation (since frankly their ingame animation looks better then their cinamatics. Heck if 100k was they would redo their cinamatics with ingame graphics I'd be on the edge of my seat).

Mind you I cannot blame them. It isn't the only game with worse cinamatics then their ingame animation. Which oddly enough is extremely common in point and clicks but basically no other genre I can think of.

Oddly enough the Mages Initiation demo snapped me out of my enamouration and now I am just kinda disapointed.

Not at the parts that are obviously just because this is an early version of the game, but rather the parts of it that arn't part of the demo. Ohh well.

Yet I cannot deny that I am still charmed. It all honestly depends on whether or not there are more then one out of combat spell (and I am not including those split up between the elements). Since honestly one of my favorite parts about Quest for Glory mages was how useful magic was out of combat. There were more non-combat spells in Quest for Glory then combat spells, which is unique.

Pretty sure that's going to be the case. The back story is that there aren't any/many "real" combat spells, because Mage's aren't supposed to be combative. The conductor (the brass knuckles) turn regular spells like "heat" into combat spells like "fireball".

So, the way I figure it is that you'll take your brass knuckles off and then you'll have non-combat spells. Also it looks like to me that the conductor has room for two different types of gems. I wouldn't be surprised if your choice of gemstones in the conductor affects what your spells do. But this is mere speculation. I haven't asked any of the devs about it. Perhaps I will.

Well the "heat spell" slot could be in the final version the "magic slot"
