Title: Conan the Barbarian (the 1982 film)

Anyone else love this film?
I personally think it and Excalibur are still the two best fantasy films ever released.

Yeah, I love the 1982 Conan.  As far as sword and sandal Fantasy, it's one of the best.  This flick, along with The Beastmaster, are my 80's fantasy flick guilty pleasures.

Still the best in the series and the first beastmaster was awesome as well.

Don't know why in the hell they decided to bring the Beastmaster to the 1980's though, that was just duuuumb

Best fantasy films ever are solidly the Lord of the Rings trilogy (with Fellowship being the best of those).

For me, from the 80's, I preferred Legend, Labyrinth and of course The Princes Bride to these two. But those are all very different from these two, which I also enjoyed for what they are.

I could be wrong, but when Perceval said "fantasy" I think he meant Sword and Sorcery, which is an aesthetic style that LOTR doesn't really fall into.

I could be wrong though :P

Ooh, yeah, definitely Legend.  Man, there's so many different cuts of that flick too.  It's interesting to compare versions.

And yeah - the Sword and Sorcery movies like Conan and The Beastmaster are definitely different from Fantasy flicks like LoTR.  I mean, they're of a similar milieu, but they definitely have differences.

Fantasy is a pretty broad scope, yeah--personally, I'd still put LotR at the top of the genre as a whole.

For Sword & Sorcery, though, I'd say Princess Bride and Legend.

Also, I was not aware there are different cuts of Legend! I'm intrigued now.

Is this a bad time to say I've never really enjoyed the LOTR movies? :P

(Is tempted to post the Clerks 2 explanation)

Haha, nice Clerks 2 ref.

Katie, if you're a Legend fan, check this out - it tells about the different versions.

Here is a great site that has comparisons between versions with pictures and detailed lists!  It's awesome.

Find the Director's Cut if you can.
