Title: Wanting to write a fantasy game--any reference guides you recommend?
Post by: Sir Perceval of Daventry on April 25, 2013, 02:35:56 PM
I want to try my hand at writing a medieval fantasy type game, along the lines of KQ or perhaps darker along the lines of Conan the Cimmerian. Are there any good books, good reference materials I could use that you guys recommend? I mean things like books about symbols (the way you guys learned all about the Zodiac and it's symbolism), esoteric mythology stuff, etc.

It depends on what the topic is, but honestly, wikipedia is a great starting place. Generally the info in it is pretty reliable, and for topics like these, there are also a lot of references to where the information was found so you can go look at primary sources.

When you find the names of particular books, check them out on Amazon and see what their reviews say--good ones will usually have reviews backing this up. And if possible, see what you can get out of the library instead of having to buy.
