Title: The Great Airfare Search!
Post by: ShinyKnight on January 07, 2005, 01:21:36 PM
Howdy folks! Now, what good would this forum be if I couldn't bend it to my slightly-evil whims every once in awhile? :P Since I don't seem to have nearly enough time on my hands these days, and you guys are such wonderful people/farm animals, I figured I would enlist your help in finding the lowest price from Seattle/Portland to Caracas. ;D You guys all know the story by now, I'm sure... The point is, I need to get there soon, or we'll both go crazy and take you all with us! (Aside from those of you already belonging to the Asylum, of course...) Feel free to post your lowest fare here, and the one who the cheapest ticket wins a "special prize". (I can hear everyone now: "Ooooohhhhh, aaaaaaahhhhh...") ;) Let the game begin! (Note to staff: Feel free to move at your leisure... ;P)

Edit: The cheapest I've find so far is from Orbitz.com for the date of Feb. 12th from Portland for $340 -- Have to make it by Valentine's Day!

How soon is soon?

Cheaptickets.com...leaving on Jan 28 at 6:20am and getting back Feb. 4: $558 flying Continental Airlines

Expedia.com...leaving Jan 20 at 10:19pm and getting back on Feb 20: $560.19 flying Continental Airlines
Title: Re:The Great Airfare Search!
Post by: ShinyKnight on January 07, 2005, 01:31:16 PM
As long as I get there before Feb. 14th, everyone will live a long and happy life... ;)

Post by: koko_99_2001 on January 07, 2005, 01:33:54 PM
Awww...

Well...looks like around $560 is the cheapest I can find...Priceline.com has it departing on Feb. 7 and getting back Feb. 20...$565

Rumor has it Delta is lowering its prices substantially to keep from going bankrupt. I dont know if its the cheapest, but its a possibility.

Aside from that, go for Continental. You cant lose.  ;D

Well, I can't find anything cheaper than $340, but I'm wondering what the optimal date of departure would be for you. The 12th seems fine if you only mean to get there right before Valentine's Day, but there are also many flights available at the exact same price that are departing much earlier. As of right now (the time of posting) there are one-way tickets from PDX to Caracas available that depart as soon as January 21 for only $340 as well. So, theoretically you could arrive in Venezuela as soon as January 22 in the afternoon at the same price as you would pay for the Feb. 12 flight.

Granted, at only $340 all these flights will be two-stop over-nighters, but they'll get you there nonetheless. You may not find it convenient to leave earlier than the twelfth, but I thought I'd mention that it doesn't necessarily need to be that late of a departure date for the $340 price, in case you didn't know.

Well, that's all I've got for now, but good luck on your further searching! If I by any chance do find a cheaper airfare, I'll be sure to tell you, or more likely tell Say, since I've yet to make any contact with you at all.

haha omg baby, I can't believe you opened a thread about this!

Oh well... I did the research already of course (obviously, and you already know about that of course ;P), and I guess my cheapest was just like Kevin said, around $350, something with like 487948 stops, with 'I-don't-remember-how-many' days in advantage, but don't worry, we may get lucky eventually and find better prices alright :)

I'll keep looking, that's for sure :) <3 I can offer rewards to whoever who offers the cheapest airfare :P... care to own your own little Cesar?!? :D lol

one thing though...whenever I type in Portland It comes up with OR and ME as the states...i thought it was WA  ??? So confusing!

Silly Brit, maps are for kids... ;P I -was- in Washington, and now I'm in Oregon... Portland, to be more precise. ;) Which is why I need figures from both PDX (Portland, Oregon) and SEA (Seattle, Washington -- 2 hours to the North, and sometimes a lot cheaper to fly out of). I also came across a couple websites in a book, but I haven't had the time to check them out yet. They both specialize in flights to Latin America, so I'm hoping to they can go a bit cheaper than any of the airlines here. However, they fly from Miami, so I'd have to take a couple flights to get there, which isn't really a big deal if it savse a considerable amount of money. The downside of course being, I might actually have to stop by and say hi to Cesar, if that's the case. ;P
Title: Re:The Great Airfare Search!
Post by: Drunken Chinchilla on January 10, 2005, 05:06:38 PM
Ahhhhh I see now! I thought all of the flight companies denied its existance or something  ;D. The one I was searching for was SEA to CCS (or is that CSS?? lol)

I thought that Lufthansa would be cheap seeing as a flight from the UK to Caracas is only £289 with them but they were quoting stupid money like $1600!!

Ray Stevens -> It's me again Margaret

Well, there once was a feller named Willard McVane
And he only had just one thought on his brain
Every evening about midnight he'd sneak off alone
And call the same lady on a pay telephone

'It's me again, Margaret...
(Evil laughter)
Hello, is this Margaret?
You don't know me, Margaret, but I know you.'

Well, this upset the lady and it gave her the blues
So she called up the police, said 'What shall I do?'
The chief of detectives came round to her home
And eavesdropped upon them on her upstairs phone

'It's me again, Margaret...
(Evil laughter)
Hello, is this Margaret?
Margaret, I know it's you, Margaret
Are you naked?
(More evil laughter)'

Well, they called up Ma Bell and they traced him on down
To a funky old phone booth on the outskirts of town
It was there that the vice squad with their field glasses read
The lips of that amorous man as he said

'It's me again, Margaret...
(Evil laughter)
Hello? Is this...is this Margaret?
(Evil laughter)
I know it's you, Margaret
I bet you can't guess what I'm doing...'

Well, they cuffed him and dragged him to the station downtown
And they allowed him one phone call 'fore the jailer came round
He wet his chapped lips and he cleared his young throat
Then he dialed the telephone and softly he spoke

'It's me again, Margaret...
(Evil laughter)
They got me, Margaret
You ain't going to miss me, Margaret, I know that
But I'll miss you
(More evil laughter)
And when I get out, Margaret
I'm going to come over there with an egg beater
And a live chicken, and some peach preserves!
We'll have a good old time, Margaret

Ray Stevens -> Sittin' Up With The Dead

Well, out in the country, we didn't have mortuaries, and so it was always customary for the undertaker to do his job and lay your kin out right there at home. Yeah, the church would loan you foldin' chairs and you'd have visitation and everything right there. But when the night time come you'd have to sit up with the dead 'cause it wasn't right to leave 'em alone.

Well, the last time I sat up was '65 when my old arthritic Uncle Fred died. He was 97, so stooped over the mortician couldn't straighten him out. They used a loggin' chain to hold him down. Covered that all up with a cape and a gown and didn't tell nobody in the family 'cause that's the kinda stuff folks just don't wanta know about.

Well, we were all sittin' there, it was three in the mornin'
And then there come up a cloud of thunder, lightnin' and stormin'
Well, that lightnin' flashed and that thunder clapped,
And that chain' round old Uncle Fred went snap
It rattled and fell to the floor with a thump, and Uncle Fred just sat right up.....(Yow!) :suffer:

And I ain't sittin' up with the dead no more
I don't know 'bout you
No, I ain't sittin' up with the dead no more
No matter what you say or do
They say the dead can't hurt ya
'Cause they already left
But what they left can sure make you hurt yourself
And I ain't sittin' up with the dead no more
Since the dead started sittin' up too

Spoken: have mercy

Well, when Uncle Fred sat up, so did everyone there. And there came a great partin' of the foldin' chairs and that preacher nearly knocked me down. He said, "Oh, I'm headin' out that kitchen door". I hollered, "Rev, that kitchen ain't got no door in it". He said, "Don't worry, son, it will have in a minute".

Sung: And I ain't never seen so much jumpin' and shovin' before

And then somebody stepped on the old cat's tail. He let out a scream, a screech, a wail and to say the least, that howl didn't help to calm the situation down. And then that lightnin' flashed and that house went black and I spoke to my feets, I said, "Boys, make tracks". And I went through that screen door Lickity split for town.

Well, I cut through the cemetery, fell in a hole
It was Uncle Fred's grave, and it was dark and cold
Yeah, the town drunk dug it and he dug it too deep
And unbeknownst to me, he's still in there asleep
And I'm scratchin' and jumpin', tryin' to get out of that hole,
And he woke up and said,
"You might as well come over here and sit down beside me boy,
'Cause you ain't getting' out of here tonight"
*long pause*
But I did!
XD

And I ain't sittin' up with the dead no more
I don't know 'bout you
No, I ain't sittin' up with the dead no more
No matter what you say or do
They say the dead can't hurt ya
'Cause they already left
But what they left can sure make you hurt yourself
And I ain't sittin' up with the dead no more
Since the dead started sittin' up too

Wadn't no sense in nobody sittin' up with Uncle Fred anyhow. Uncle Fred's done be gonna set up with his own self. Next time, I'm just gonna send flowers. Yeah.....

and for all you that don't know what we're talking about...

hahah that would be cute as hell :)

well, one of the things about Michael that I adore (among the 389723987234987 things I love about him) is the fact that he is the most amazing guy I've ever met, for righ or wrong, for good or bad, he has always managed to just make himself the most amazing person on earth to me.

on a much more specific thing I could say I love his handwriting! :D it's so cute how he crosses his t's and how he does his d's and y's and g's lol <3 <3

oh wait, there were 2 things lol, I can't shut up when I start talking about him, so I'd better stop writing now :P

hhahaha!

he's the cutest when he gets mad at me, well "mad" lol, as in for example I kinda tend to drive him insane (being silly and everything) and he can do is like, he's about to speak but he stops and then he goes like "sigh" hahah it's far too cute! obviously, after I laugh then he calls me a brat! :P

or when we used to talk over skype and such, he used to bite the microphone when was getting mad at me he was like "and whatever whatever dfhdslhfsdhsdhj *chews on mic*" lmao, it was so amazingly funny AND cute, I couldn't stand up being mad to him like one whole minute lol.

Yes yes, I do believe Im handful! lol but he's not a saint either!! he... pokes me and... stuff lol :P lol, ok I had better shut up, he'll read all this soon enough hahaha :P

But there is ONE thing that just makes me feel... whole more than anything in this world, and that is his laugh <3 <3 GOD I LOVE it, I just LOVE it <3

edit-> wtf I can't even type lol :P

aww thanks :)

I'm having a horrible week and we're just in the middle of it, I just have to admit that whenever whatever is related somehow to Michael, I do light up!

Just a little anectode that I was sharing with Michael the other day, once I was at work (last year), some colleages and myself were waiting at P&G's reception for our students, and meanwhile we were just having a fun talk cuz it was like weeks since Francis and I have seen each other, at a moment of the conversation I went back to my normal idle status of -thinking of michael- lol, and it was hilarious cuz right at that moment Francis goes like "Girl! look at that smile!! you're glowing!, who is he!??!" hahaha I laughed and I blushed, so he says something like "Come on!! who is he?? you look beautiful, you must really love him!" haha it was hilarious, because I didn't even have to say a word! I guess I'm just that obvious :P

It's a cute story cuz he's just a colleage, we're not friends or anything so it's odd he would know something like that, ever since I've realized it was indeed obvious, because I remember how Cesar found out too!! lol it was because I was webcamming with him, I was actually working on something and I was lazy enough to not scan but to show over webcam haha, Michael and I by that time, were just good friends, and then while webcamming with Cesar Michael gets online and Cesar did the same hahaha, he was like "Look at that smileeeee! look those eyes! wtf, who is it?? tell meee!" I blushed inmediatly and at that moment of course I told Cesar to go dance on a pole and leave me alone :P, but few months later he was right lol :P

Sigh, oh well :) <3

What?! No one else can look at Say's beautiful smile anymore? What are you going to do, lock her in a closet or something? WTF, meanie!! >:( :P

But on a lublier note, I'd like to congratulate Say and Michael on officially being boyfriend/girlfriend (i.e. slave/mistress) for 9 months now! Yaaaay!! XD Happy gay hearts for both of you!!
<3 <3 <3

Say has had her MSN screen name as "9 months!" recently, and I think a lot of people misinterpreted it and thought maybe Cesar was having her love child. So I thought I'd be charitable and clear up any confusion that it may have caused. ::) ;P

And no, I know this isn't a gay relationship, but how can I resist using gay hearts on such an occasion!? <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3.......okay, that's enough of that. :P

Hmmm.... you know I was thinking, if the name on Michael's birth certificate happens to be Michelle it may be a gay relationship after all! :D

Hey, it could happen..... the name on my birth certificate is "Kevita"...... erm, hey wait a second.....
OMG NOOO!! :o ;P

hahaha you silly ppl :P

Well, I've got more than plenty of stories and cute things about us, among many others but of course the good stuff always has a very unique place for both :)

Ok, one more, the cutest thing that Michael first ever did to me was to actually starting to take care of me when I didn't even allowed him to lol, or at first I didn't realize it to be honest, we started out as friends of course but he was a very sudden impact in my life, I mean, I met someone extremely handsome, amazingly talented and incredible sweet, I was like *pokes arm* am I dreaming?? Our first conversations had a great flow although we didn't really get to share plenty, (or should I say that I didn't), but he did conected some facts and gathered some idea of who I was and what was going on with my life, he was really nice (and sweet I must add) so I was EXTREMELY careful with him at first cuz we met due work, nothing else! so it wasn't supposed to happen at all, but he was there taking care of me spite of the distance literally physical and emotional that we had at that moment, and Michael actually prevented me to do one of the biggest mistake I could have ever done in my life, long story short, he took care of me without even knowing, or asking for it or allowing him to do so. And literally take care of me, as in, he was watching my backs, myself, my steem, my health, my mood, everything... so, yes, Michael has been one of those true friends that do shine among the worst times of your life, he didn't only shine but also stole my heart with it all together. Literally Michael did pick me up before I fell, and help me stand back up, it was a very important time and a very important thing going on, and when the time came to actually everyone show their true colors, I was shocked to see that HE was on my side, not only on my side but actually helping me and defending me, and was right then when I found out how everything turned out to be, I realized every single thing he has been doing for me for quite a while by then, and how he was always there for me since the beggining, so, seriously, it was of great shock, not that I didn't expect him to be so great, I already knew he was a great guy, but I actually never thought of it myself, never expected it at least from him, but I could just run out of words to express it.

It was really hard as I said, we weren't supposed to be together, so it was seriously tricky, but eventually that whole s*** flew out the window, which has proven me how when something really matters, it doesn't matter how what when or whatever, if you care you do give your best and try.

We're far from perfect or far from the typical fairy tale, we've worked really HARD to be where we are, and even though this has probably has been the most meaning and challenging relationship we've both had, we've also grown up greatly and found of course our better half in each other, he does complete me in many ways even though we're so not the same person hahaha we do disagree a lot and argue and get our weird moments, we do overcome it somehow because we both care, and eventually either one does always come out of the "what I say" and "what you say" and step out it to find a third way, together.

That's probably the most difficult thing for a relationship, being selfless, having the capacity to overcome your own needs to realize the others needs, to be human enough to manage your own and to embrace the others needs, feelings, care, concerns, because it shouldn't be a burden whatsoever, it should be completly the opposite, it should feel as something good and pleasant, as well as natural, it's not an effort, it's just something you do because you want to do, because for there to be love there's got to be respect, care, trust, and many other things that will help to it, otherwise it could fade away.

And this post is already too freaking long so I'll keep it quiet now :D

Wow.  Powerful stuff, Say.  And something a lot of people, including myself, need to learn.
Title: Re:The Magical Michael thread...coz he really wanted one
Post by: Say on January 19, 2005, 09:48:08 PM
IMHO, it comes naturally or at least with true care, as in, when you really care about that person. Take an example about your parents, or most parents I should say, unconditional love comes within the fact that no matter how wrong or right, or silly or ridiculous you could ever be or act, regardless of the consequences they will be there in the end. This may not be the case of everyone, but it's mostly mine (even though my parents are apart and whatever) and probably of a few around here as well.

Nothing comes easily as I said, as a matter of fact I think one of the things that have kept Michael and I together is the fact that we both know what we want, we both have worked for a bond, a relationship, a friendship, and even though things have got difficult (wether it was our doing or not) we still continued and managed to work out things, because when you really want to and care, things come along somehow. The only issue is that in order for it to happen a relationship relates to two, (ironicly to love and to argue also takes two as well) so in the end, no matter how hard YOU try, you can't make it all by yourself.

And it all comes down to the fact that he tries and so do I, and so far it's been almost quite a while by now.

And in reply to kevin, wtf I'm not popular lol :P

that paragraph u wrote about selflessness really hit home in a way i dont think actually has until now...without knowing it Say u've kinda kicked me up the butt and helped me...there was a reason u ranted and wrote that long thing about michael, not only to show to every1 how great he is but also giving me a valuable thing to think about but yeh

the reason this thread is so great is coz I created it  ::) so dont even bother arguing with me :P
