I like Cedric's voice, its the best ever ;)
Yay, another Cedric fan! !!!
I just like how Cedric manages to sound British, high-pitched, and cowardly at the same time. ;) And he *does* heroically save Graham's life at the end. :)
Cedric's voice was good. I never had a problem with it. He had a big attitude problem though. ;)
I liked the Green Isles too. Wish there could have been more with the Sacred Mountain and the Isle of Mist.
Hehe, sure. ;D
I have no problems with Cedric's voice in my KQ5.....
......which has no voices.....ssssshhhh
Consider yourself lucky. KQ5 is better without the voices ;)
Whats wrong with their voices?
Nothing... except that they really suck :(
To each his own I guess.
The portraits aren't good though! I don't like the dialogue portraits!! :'( :'( I want GOOD dialogue portraits!! >sobs<
Then again, I still don't like Cedric. With a voice, I can't even *imagine* what he'd sound like.
Actually, I can what with the Madness of King Graham in KQ2+....that is Cedric's voice. And GAH!
But not as bad as Connor's, all things considered...
Cedrick was cool ;D, there was absolutely nothing wrong with his voice :-\
I really should start up a Cedrick fan club ;B
Wouldn't you be like...the only member? ::) Cedric fan club...yeesh....
I didn't mind Cedric... okay, that's not entirely true.
there are a few ppl that have said "Cedrick Rules!", so there is hope :P
Is that hope that someone will come up with a medication for these people? :P
no that those ppl will join me and hurt ppl like you ;P
I don't need no.... medi-CA-tion! ;)
(sung to "I Ain't Got No Satisfaction")
*likes Cedric*
(shakes head) Storm, you're obviously going to have to whack Racx some more.
Anyhoo. IIRC, it's been mentioned a few times that there will be magic in the game.
Peace & Luv, Liz
Anywayz Cedrick seemed like a wise old owl and that is why i liked him ;), i even named my Budgie after him ;D
BTW i will not show any affection for Connor :P
Cedric never struck me as wise. He's mostly cowardly and stating the obvious :P
I agree with Storm.
"Look Graham, a POISONOUS snake".....that's wise?
Oh, and...
"There's nothing but a hot dry desert to the west of here."
Or...
"I had a bad run in with a dog once."
I think that last one may be the wisest thing he ever said.
And again I say....How?
"Is that a new dance? The BUG-a-loo?" Well, gee, that was witty, almost, but how did it seem wise? :-\
"Lets turn back!" (at Mordack's Castle) Uhm...did he miss the whole adventure GETTING there? Why would *ANYONE* say that?
And don't get me started on his directions...when he's paying enough attention to give any...
I never said that Cedrick is wise listen to what he says, i just said Cedrick looks and seems wise if you look at a picture of him b4 even playing the game
I guess anyone can LOOK wise, if he's an owl and wearing a monocle :P
Yeah thats exactly why i thought he was wise ;), but then i played the game :-\ :suffer:
I never could figure out whether they made him annoying on purpose or tried to make him appear wise and foul up miserably :P
(resurrects thread from the depths of cyberspace)
OK... I *finally* got around to finishing KQ5. Laugh all you want... I've been busy. :P
Quote from: Storm on April 12, 2004, 01:45:15 PMConsider yourself lucky. KQ5 is better without the voices ;)
I can now say with some certainty that this is true. :P My friend Spikey wasn't kidding when he said they were laughably bad! Especially the narrator.
My other friend also wasn't kidding when she said Alexander's voice actor was poor.
Josh was much better as Graham in KQ2+... most of his lines here fell pretty flat, IMHO.
As for Cedric... 95% of the time I couldn't even figure out what he was saying... of course, 99% of the things he said weren't important, so I guess that works out. Actually, I couldn't figure out what 80% of everyone else was saying, either.
(Note to self: Buy the disk version. You were going to have to anyway.)
The only worthwhile voice bits were the ants' song at the haystack, and the Weeping Willow's song. Of course, the Seiberts sung those, so that probably had something to do with it. OK, the gnome and the toyshop owner were nice voice picks, too... unfortunately it was sort of ruined by the lousy recording quality.
Peace & Luv, Liz
Heh, I'm actually really happy that I had the disk-version that had no voices on it. This was the first KQ that I played on my own computer, and hearing terrible voices might have ruined the whole experience for me. :o
Ignoring the horrid voices, the game itself was pretty good. Of course, when KQ6 came out, it blew this game out of the water, but at the time KQ5 was "totally awesome, dude". :P

What gets me is that Space Quest 4 was mostly "amateur voices" too, but it was actually not bad. I guess they learned a lot in a year. :P Granted, the kookier nature of SQ probably helped, too. (And springing for a wicked good professional narrator... ;) )

Heh. Not only those, but also the fact that many of the puzzles you really could only get a clue about by dying first. (I've always had the bias that I want to be able to believe that the character really could have gotten through the game on their own, with enough ingenuity and maybe a *little* luck.) Oh, and a lot of puzzles/items you ended up solving/picking up just because they were there (and didn't find out the motivation for until long afterwards), although you could chalk up some of them to the fact that Graham is just a Nice Guy (TM).
Oh, well. Still not the worst game I've played.
Peace & Luv, Liz
That's true. I don't think it's possible to finish KQ5 without dying at least once by accident. Also, I don't know anyone that completed it without the use of a hintbook or walkthrough, just because of the abundance of illogical puzzles. :-\

Rosella might be annoying in KQ3, but she's only annoying for a couple of screens at the end... Cedric is annoying throughout the game
QuoteHave you played KQ5, with the voices turned on?
Yes, I've played it with the voices turned on(and no, I still don't see the problem).
QuoteRosella might be annoying in KQ3, but she's only annoying for a couple of screens at the end... Cedric is annoying throughout the game
Maybe so, but how many people have told you they couldn't finish the game, because of Cedric(I've heard it said countless times about Rosella)?
Sure, you can fail the game due to Cedric... if you don't rescue him after he gets injured the first time. ;)
Personally, I would love to claim that I couldn't finish the game because I could barely understand what the heck Cedric was saying... except for the fact that Cedric never said anything important, so it doesn't matter. :P
Peace & Luv, Liz
Cedric 4 Life, bizatches. *makes some kind of gang member hand gesture* 8)
Yes, Cedric is annoying at times, but mostly because he slowed down the game when Graham changed scenes.
I thought Cedric's reluctance to take risks was refreshing; adventure game characters are often too anxious to do dangerous things. "Hey! Let's go into this hot, forbidding desert from which no one returns so we can stumble across an obscure inventory item!" :P
And don't forget: A lot of things about the KQ universe may be darker or reinterpreted. Maybe Cedric will have a personality makeover, too.
*envisions q**** Eye visiting Cedric* Oh dear.
Cedrick rules and now this thread need no further conversation :P
lol, nice one Shadow, that's the spirit :P
...now if only we could give the resurrection a cedric look-and-feel... :P
Cedric: "Don't go in your bedroom, Graham!! It's too dangerous!! ... Why? Well, erm, ahh, I saw Valanice buying some whips that were on sale earlier today..."
;D
Ew. Now that would result in an interesting death message. :D

And omg what a cool idea... I LOVE Cedric! ;D

I may not like cedric but it does make me laugh when i think about him saying "Oh Graham!" XD
Cedrick is cool, but he sounds like a girl and his voice is friggin' annoying. XD

Can people that found him incredibly annoying join the club too? ;P
I think Cedric is cute in an obnoxious kind of way. he is funny, with that high pitched wimpy girlie voice of his. "Hoo, look out Graham, a poisonous snake!" he's not that good as a guide, and is too cowardly to follow you into most places, like the town, the desert, the haunted forest, etc. I imagine my new cat would like to go after Cedric.
Caitlin thinks Cedric sounds like Michael Jackson. :P
Anyways, I want to join! XD

Cedric: Look out everyone gilgamesh is here.
gilgamesh: Why are you telling them that I'm here?
Cedric: Course you are evil.
gilgamesh: Thank you. ;D
Reasons why Cedric is more awesome than most people 8):
1) Outfit. I mean, c'mon, he's got the monocle, the little blue vest - he totally has it together! He even has the moxie to not wear pants in public.
2) Common sense. Some people mistake this for cowardice. However, neither Graham nor Cedric have any discernable reason to, for instance, lollygag through the Desert of Endless Restoration, so can you blame Cedric for staying behind?
3) Flying. Can Graham fly? (The intro doesn't count.) For that matter, can you?
Can anybody think of anything else?

Obviously the reason why he refused to follow Graham into town, the inn, the desert, the woods, etc, was because everyone there was already wise to him.
LOL, I personaly think Cedric was just there for comic relief. And also why he came off so bad is because the sierra team just used people at the office who didn't have any inkling of how to act. Useing a trained actor's voice might have helped his image as a comic charator and not a girly owl with a whiney voice. Just imagine if he my a proper english accent. He'd probably come off a bit more like C3PO from starwars. Think about it. C3PO: I'm not going that way!

I LOVE cedric. He makes me laugh!
I want to join! Cedric's funny. "Ooh, Graham, watch out for that cliff!" Cedric makes the game so much more alive. (KQ5 is my dad's favorite game mainly because of Cedric. I think.)
GO CEDRIC!
Aw, look how cute he is! :)
*huggles Cedric*
You have to admit, while he's annoying, he's so darn cute!
I had that for my background at one stage XD
Why is this in exsistence? "OOOOOOO Graham! I have a BAD feeling about this!" He had no point to the game! Was he there for comic relief or something? ???
Yes. I think he also served as a hint system, too; Sierra figured that young players might need to be told the obvious every now and then.
For me, Cedric pretty much fails at being funny or helpful, but I still like him. He's like a dorky kid brother who just wants to help. :)
Everyone should know that there's no place in the world, Serenia or anywhere else, for Cedric. You should all agree (that means you too, racx).
I wonder what a 3D version of Cedric would look like... ;D
Cedric was annoying with his cowardice, he was too afraid to follow me most places. And his high-pitched squeaky voice was annoying. But I did think he was rather cute. I like birds. I like cats too, and cats eat birds. My cat Missy had beter not hurt my cockatiel Precious. Cedric might look wise, but he really is not. My favorite animals are mythical ones, the unicorn in KQIV and the crystal dragon in KQVII.
There should be a bonus Cedric minigame... you'd get to fly him around the world doing errands for Crispin, seeing the game's plot from his point of view from time to time...
The bonus minigame is called Astro Chicken and if you hit Cedric you get 500 points :P
Haha I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of adventure game from Cedric's POV showing what he was doing while graham was elsewhere in the desert, forest, etc.
Probably snorin- er, scouting out the area. Yeah, thats it. :P
Quote from: Baggins on April 23, 2006, 07:20:14 AM
Ya, it is another KQ5 dead end, if you forget to get the hook, you can't get the cheese, and therefore you can't beat the game(rotten cheese acts as a catalyst to the strange contraption), :p...
In that game you pretty much can't miss any item or its a dead end.... The only points you can miss, is beating the game without tripping the henchman, or bagging Manannan.
*wishes she had left Cedric to see what happened* random thought :P
You are killed by the wand :). I did it once just to find out, heh.
Good death message? :P
I can't remember that was a long time ago. It might have been the same one you get if you get caught by Mordack anywhere else in the castle...
Is it me, or was the cheese puzzle a bit obtuse? I mean there was no clues suggesting the use of the cheese in the machine anywhere was there? About the only reason a person would try dropping the cheese into the machine is cause its one of the last items in the game that hasn't been used yet(at least that was how it was for me)...
Hmmm.... you mean leaving Cedric behind on Harpy Island?
How cruel... *tsk tsk*
Or is there some other way you leave him behind?
I meant leave him behind on the island :P
We all know there are people that wish they could have left him back at the island, and still be able to beat the game. ;)
Poor Cedric. :'(
Quote from: Oldbushie on April 23, 2006, 10:17:48 AM
Poor Cedric. :'(
I can't stand Cedric! And apparantly neither could Graham! :P
One of the things I find amusing in the companion is Graham is always thinking about how annoying that darn owl is. Though we find out towards the end he begins to warm up to him, and is certainly greatful the bird saved his life.
In the companion it also says Cedric was turned to stone as opposed to dying.
Actually the full description for what happened to Cedric reads, "fell to the ground lifelessly". Later it says he was "returned to health; he had not died", and then it mentions he was turned to stone.
I don't remember if Cedric was killed, or just injured badly in the game, and you can't get a good look at him. Don't ask me why he can take the blast of the wand, but Graham dies(disintegrated IIRC) if you get hit, ;P. Maybe familiars are made of stronger stuff. Maybe it was Cedric's power of annoyance. You can't get rid of annoying things you can only slow them down.
All I can say its probably a good thing that the spell didn't turn him to "stone" instantly or he'd probably have shattered into many tiny cedric pieces when he fell to the ground.
Which, according to many players would have been a positive thing :P
Hey there is always Freddy Pharkas for those that want to see Cedric get his due, ;).
I take the greatest pleasure in it every time I play that game. :P
I LIKE Cedric, ok? Not EVERYONE hates him! :P
I like him too, he's just really fun to make fun of, ;).
Yes I really like him, one of the reasons I liked KQ5 so much when I was younger was cause you essentially had a sidekick to talk to, instead of just adventuring alone in the world (even if Cedric forces you to go solo multiple times throughout the adventure, since he is overly cowardly). :P
But in FPFP, they refer to him as "Ceedric" (long e) which kind of ruined it. :P
Maybe that was their way of avoiding copyright infringement? ;-D
As they're both Sierra, I don't think it matters :P
Cedric wasn't so bad. sure he was a coward and most of the time useless and he made lousy jokes, but i liked him. like baggins says, you weren't alone. i was but a young fing back then, and what with all the dangers and death lurking just on the next screen, he was a comfort.
Quote from: Baggins on April 23, 2006, 11:26:02 AMYes I really like him, one of the reasons I liked KQ5 so much when I was younger was cause you essentially had a sidekick to talk to, instead of just adventuring alone in the world.
But he was a totally useless sidekick! Gameplay-wise, if you bother to implement a sidekick, you should make it useful for something beside slowing the game down with its entrance animation on every screen and making pointless comments. Otherwise, you're just going to frustrate the players because it seems like a great feature, but they can't have any meaningful interaction with it :-\
It was just a sense of feeling that I wasn't alone, where in previous games the characters never had anybody with them. It was just them against the world.
Sure he was useless but he was there, it was somewhat comforting. Even if I was getting him out of more trouble than he was helping me.
Speaking of useless junk given to you by Crispin, he gives you his wand, and you can't do anything with it really, until the very end, :-p. At least in the disk version of the game the wand was used periodically throughout the entire game, and was tied to the copy protection. At various points the game something was broken, or you weren't strong enough to move something, and you had to cast spells to get by certain obstacles in the game.
Doesn't Cedric give you hints occasionally?
And, he does get to be a kind of "damsel in distress" at one point. ;)
No. :P At least, not that I know of, he just says: "Crispin's house is to the east of here." :P Stuff like that :P

hey- i'll put my 2 cents in to this topic. Cedric is funny and gives Graham a sidekick. He doesnt give Graham clues but i wouldn't mind him chillin' with me as I save the world from peril.
He's more of a comedy sidekick than heroic sidekick, too LOL.
The only thing I found annoying about him was this:
"Graham! There's a hole in the boat!"
[boat sinks, Graham drowns as Cedric flies off]
Little b******. Didn't even try to save me there, much less he could've told me sooner about that hole.
Maybe he flew away to get help? ;)

You can change his look, but his voice will always be irritating. XD
Cedric will always be annoying, regardless of appearance and voice :P
Yeah, I'm really starting to think that was the whole reasoning behind having him in KQ5. ;P

XD
He must be, as he isn't much help at all in any of the quests :P
Well he saved your life at the end. :P
They could have changed the storyline so that the wand didn't work at all. :P
Cedric encourages you to finish the game faster. ;-D
So you can get rid of him? :P
No, so he can become the castle pet. ;)
XD
Must...feed....Cedric....to....vultures...
No! Not his silver-capped buttons! :o
Nope, they'll take off his vest and monocle before eating him :P
I always thought Cedric was supposed to be a comedic sidekick.
Just take one of his lines and say it in a sarcastic British accent...
;D

The third one's cedric!
*goes out to the shed to get the gun*
Hmm...I don't have a gun. Aha!! *Starts playing his sister's Madonna albums* Take that, Cedric!!
Oh, no, Graham! A POOIIIIISONOUS Madonna! ::)

He wasn't even in most of the game: "I'll just stay here, Graham. I don't want to go in." :wall:

Hmm... perhaps she's now Cedric's fiance? XD
Nah.... Sing-Sing would never associate with him. She has more class. :)
ROFL...
Considering Cedric is several millenia older than Sing-Sing, I bet she's a bit to young for him. Unless he is into young chicks. Which is just a bit creepy.
Old elderly bird stalking coparitvely young birds. That's beyond lecherous.
Yeah, Sing-Sing could so do better than that bird. ;P

Millenia older that sing sing?
Is the exact age of Cedric stated in the companion??
Nope. Just that Cedric is Crispin's familiar and Crispin's several thousand years old. ::)
Couldn't he have been promoted to familiar status even if he had only been with Crispen for a few years. ???
Mages can only ever cast the familiar spell once (according to QFG :P), I don't think Crispin was alone for several thousand years.
Quotefamiliar spell
I didn't realize that 'familiar' meant some kind of enchanted sidekick. I figured it meant comapinon in a more Orthodox sense. :P
I think he was supposed to be Graham's "companion", though I doubt anyone saw him as one. XD
