Title: Identify that DEATH
Post by: Draco9898 on July 10, 2004, 03:57:08 PM
Here's a new game I thought of, Can you guess the death?

Rules-

Read the qoute and screenshot of the deaths message box and try to tell us what-
game the death is from, Who got killed, and How.

One poster at a time and only post a new one when the last one was confirmed as "correctly answered" ...

Only post screenshots of the death message and no other part of the screen at all. Do not alter the image..

I'm wondering of this game will be too hard....Maybe we could limit it to Seirra only games if this is too hard

From the context... I'd guess Leisure Suit Larry or Quest For Glory... but I haven't played much of either series, so I can't make a more specific guess.

OK! IT can be found in (King's quest 2 VGA AGI (remake)!!)

Now, someone tell me what this death is...

Since you said it involves LSL... is it the death message you get when you choose the lounge lizards world at the door of destiny? ???

As you might have guessed, I kind of like this idea, and I'd hate to see it, well, die a lonely death. So I'll post one in the interim. ;)

This one might be an easy one, but it's one of my faves, so I couldn't resist. ;D

Sorry I let this thread die out... but I found it VERY hard to a specific death message that is not overly descriptive. I did finally find one - and though I managed to get that SCIV game running on XP(!!) with sound(!!) and without using ANY emulators(!!) OR tinkering with definitions(!!), it refused to take screenshots of it >:(

Post by: Draco9898 on July 30, 2004, 06:59:10 PM
You let my topic die, but I'll revive it with another message..once I guess this one...

I have no idea what the above message is either, I never really played Police Quest...

A simple screen grab is done with the PrintSCrn button
or inside a window its Ctrl+PrintScrn or something like that
and paste it into a image handling program...

Yes, my scene is from a Police Quest. :) Can anyone figure out the rest of it?

As for Storm's problem... I've known people before to have problems with the Print Screen key in XP. I discovered a possible solution to the problem while at my uncle's house... unfortunately I no longer remember it, and the post is no longer available at the forum I posted it on. :-\ About all I can say is that I got the solution by looking through the XP help files, so try that.

My guess is the main character meets a hot chick and some how she accidently knocks the phone off the hook and you can no longer get calls so there's no longer a point playing the game.

Unless I'm mistaken, it's PQ3.
She was a whole lotta kidnapped in PQ2. (and the background colour of the death would be white, if I'm not mistaken....I died plenty'o'times in that game)

Unless it's the PQ1 remake or something (did they even do one?) and it's a big no-no because she's a prostitute in that game.

Unfortunately, I don't remember PQ3 well enough to know at what point, as she was abducted/assaulted in that one, too....I think.  Maybe after you take her home from the hospital?
Title: Re:Identify that DEATH
Post by: Jeysie on July 31, 2004, 10:00:55 AM
I shouldn't be so nice since it was your second guess ;), but yes, it is from the PQ1 VGA remake. (Yes, they did make one.)

OK, we got the game down, and Draco got the gist of it... we just need the specific place in the game and how.

Peace & Luv, Liz

Well, the death scene would be when you get Marie out of jail, offer your place to stay after you get her out, and her way of thanking you (as she was a hooker) is to get it on.  You're supposed to say no, as you're on duty.
Title: Re:Identify that DEATH

Thankee, Eric. I need to add more games to my website collection someday. ;D

And... ooohhh... J-R's so close! I'll give you guys a hint... it's near the end of the game after Marie helps you, and J-R got the "You're supposed to say no 'cause you're on duty." part right.

Peace & Luv, Liz

Awh, crud, I dunno.  I remember so little from that game now.  It's been over a decade since I played PQ1! :P

As for the VGA remake....ooh, where can I get a copy?! (and would it run on this thing?) :D

Same place you get most old games... eBay! ;) Unlike Sierra's other collections, the PQ one generally stays cheap.

Ok, here's the death scene I was suppose to post very long ago :-[

It's a general death message, so you just have to find the game it's from. I'm pretty sure there's at least one person on the forum who played this game ;)

It's been so long, I though no one would ever guess that... I did remember someone else mentioned that game on the forum, I just forgot who :pleased:

A TAD on the hard side? that game is IMPOSSIBLE!! literally impossible, when you consider I always get this bug that keeps me from getting to the diviner's island :furious:

Ok, your turn Fatali ;B

Actually, grues appear in all Zork games - both text adventures and the later ones. They're creatures that lurk in the darkness and eat you up if you go into dark places without a tourch. It's really the game's way of giving you a reason not to go into dark places instead of just saying "it's too dark to go there" :P

Speed wasn't my problem... the game worked just fine otherwise. I could catch the floaters and all, but that darn transporter would cave in under me no matter how little inventory I had :(
I could see it's a bug since the game wouldn't show the falling down animation and would just hang there for a long while before showing the death message >:(

Oh, ok... Its the bug where the transport (and you) disappear completely... Im pretty sure I managed to get past that by trying different pixels to walk on to the floating thing. If I remember correctly, it turned out to be pretty random.

Let me just take a second to brag about one of the more obscure adventure games.

Altered Destiny, in many ways, was unique, one of a kind. Why do I say that, you ask? It had a text parser using all the common phrases, a story line involving the repeatedly used plot of 'man getting sucked into different dimension to become a 'hero,' and had the universal ultimatum of bad guy trying to rule the world. So what makes it so special?

Its creativity. Sci-fi (and fantasy) stories, traditionally, use cliched, reused and regurgitated plots, characters, quests, creatures, etc.

Altered Destiny doesnt do this. Everything from the Canyons of Fear to the Floating Islands have trully bizarre landscapes and wildlife that even a drunk, hallucinating person couldnt imagine. Seriously, a slinky, hopping plant that turns the people it captures into trees... thats some pretty strange stuff.
Add in some beautifully moody music, and youve got one great adventure game.

Alright, Im done. *shuts up*

Sorry, it's been quite a while, work has been piling up at college...

"You wake up on your bedroom floor, shaken but unharmed. Kim apparently won The Game and, in the process, purged *spoiler* of all magic including The Game. Slightly depressed, you stand up, dust yourself off, and proceed on with your incredibly mundane existence."

*spoiler* is a direct hint to what the game is, as it contains part of the title.

Yup. No not at all Jafar, just as you can't blame the faeries for trying to steal YOUR staff, and you can't blame Katrina for seducing you, and you can't blame Ad Avis for forging Katrina's signature, and you can't blame Katrina for kidnapping Tanya. Just who can you blame for all the problems in the game?  You also can't blaame Ad Avis for coming back to life AFTER you killed him! That part's really annoying. It's like he comes up behind you AFTER you threw Erana's staff at him!
