I might have told everyone here I come from Florida, if you didn't know already now you do. This is hurricane season and 2 hurricane are headed to Florida, Bonnie and Charley. Hurricane Charley is headed to southwest FL, my area. I have been preparing all day. It is supose to hit on Friday. I will shut down my computer and stay offline for a few days until the storm is over and it is safe to turn the computer back on. If the power goes off, I won't be able to come back online even longer.
I hope they don't cause to much damage. :(
Hurricanes are nasty. I was in a Category 2 one last September in Halifax. First one they've had in like 50 years (and just when I happen to be on Vacation). They still haven't finished cleaning up all the damage yet. :(
I can't even begin to imagine what it would be ike to be in a region where they have them regularly. :S
Oh, dear. Best wishes to all the KQ9 Floridians. :(
Peace & Luv, Liz
Cesar is in Florida, and as a matter of fact his msn name is "Charlie's coming to get me!" lol... :S
Hope it wont be too serious, honestly.
Eep, yeah, I was thinking about poor Cesar, too. :( :P
That's one of the few good things about New England... usually we only get thunderstorms, blizzards/nor'easters, nothing very horrible.
Peace & Luv, Liz
They're common in Louisiana and Texas. Although I've never lived far enough south, to have to worry about them hitting me(it affects everyone in the state greatly though).

Yeah, I had a long chat to him just before he logged off for the last time... He was more excited than anything else! lol! Typical Cesar.
Though, looking at the news reports, it was upto Category 4 when it passed by Cesar, hope he's ok! ???
He was pretty optomistic about chasing after his computer if Charley did anything to it. ;)
Well, back so safe olde Australia.
Has anyone heard anything from dragonstar? And do they know where exactly in Florida he lives. It's been horrible! The Disaster Relief team in our county has been called up--they're leaving on Saturday and staying for a week.
Maybe one of us should send an e-mail...
If he doesn't post by next week, I'll send one.
I dont know if yall know, but a pretty serious hurricane is set to come straight thru Florida saturday. Please pray for me (and my friends) as we probably will be hit pretty hard. Thanks so much! :)
Yup, I know. Cesar's in Florida too. :-\
I see Dragonstar's online! Whoo hoo! I was beginning to get worried about you!
I survived Charley! I'm still alive and so is my house. You all should see the destruction in my town. It's amazing. I was without power for like 2 weeks. My family was very lucky, God must have been looking out for us, our house has minimal damage and is intact, good thing we had a new roof put on recently, the older houses and motor homes are destroyed. There's one street in my neighborhood where the power lines fell down onto he houses, the roofs of apartment buildings are torn away, great holes in roofs, garage doors missing, smashed windows, and it seems everyone lost their linai (porch) I live in Charlotte county, long with Desoto and Lee we are the hardest hit areas. The government stepped in to help with the cleanup and recovery, we have the national guard and FEMA here giving out free water and ice. President Bush and his brother, our governor Jeb Bush visited the area to give moral support to the people and financial aid. Not having air conditioning was hard for all of us, it was really hot after the hurricane left, then we had a problem with rain, our house and roof are intact but as for those with holes in their roofs they had to make quick repairs with boards and tarp. Our windows were broke and the neighbors helped us fix them with plywood boards. My family is really lucky that we survived with all of our stuff intact. I'm glad I have all of my loved ones around me. If anything like this happens to you its important to remember that your family is most important not your material possessions.
I'm glad you and you're family are okay. :)
How far are you from Porta Gorda and Fort what's-its-name?? But I'm so glad you and your family are fine! God is good, even in disaster!

I'm not sure the people who aren't OK would make the same claim.
At any rate, I'm glad to hear one of our Floridians is doing OK... I hope everything goes/went equally as well for the rest of our Floridian forumers... (crosses fingers)
Peace & Luv, Liz

Hey everyone! Hurricane Francis (a high end category 3) hurricane is heading slowly towards Florida. Its supposed to make landfall by saturday sometime at West Palm. Its supposed to ride up straight through the middle of the state (unfortunately hitting Gainesville on its way up. I probably will get most of the winds/rain sunday morning.) Ill let you guys know how things are going as they occur. 8)
Yeah, keep us updated so we know you're all still in one piece! (One functional piece, that is.)
(insert good luck smiley here)
Peace & Luv, Liz
lol!
*insert very very appreciate smiley and Ill do my best* ;D
Yeah Cesar has already requested what he wants me to bring to his funeral. :'(
A completed copy of KQIX? ???
*huggles Fatali*
Stay safe!
I just heard on the news now that Frances is now a category 2 storm. :) Still tons of rain though. :-X
Projected Path (http://www.w3.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm6/index_large.html)
Found this online today. Looks like if Frances doesn't fall apart, the wind and rain will hit me between Wed. AM and Thurs. AM...Hope Fatali and Dragonstar and Cesar and everyone else in Florida are doing well!
While Harrison, his mom and I were eating in NY today before going to the park, there was an elderly couple also in the restaurant who lives in Florida and have been vacationing in the Northeast for a while. Wow, they've gotta have a sucky situation. :(
Peace & Luv, Liz
Saw this in the latest news page of 8-Bit Theater (http://www.nuklearpower.com/), which is written by a Floridian:

I think that sums up the matter pretty well. :P

I read about a new one on the newspaper, its name is Ivan just got lvl 4 actually :-X
I feel for Florida...I really do. My Dad's Disaster Relief team has been called up again...but their on hold because of Ivan... :(
Boy, this is one heckuva year for Floridians. :-\ Good luck, and I'm glad you all have survived the ones that came so far!
Thanks to "Ivan" the weather here is insanely annoying, during day it's so freaking DRY hot, and then at the afternoon it becomes horribly windy and foggy and rains ALL night long till next day, I hope that stupid thing will just stop already, it's been like that all week.
I just heard on the news that Ivan is now a Category 5 with winds as 160 mph.
Maybe Florida Isn't a Good Retirement Spot After All (http://www.aberdeennews.com/mld/aberdeennews/news/nation/9603303.htm)
Peace & Luv, Liz
Heard today that Granada had about 90% of the structures completely destroyed by Ivan. Also found out that one of the girls in one of my classes has family living in Granada...and she hasn't been able to contact them yet :'(
The projected path for Ivan according to weather.com is pretty encouraging... It looks like its going to miss most of florida...
(unfortunately, it'll probably hit Texas and/or Alabama... Thats the messed up thing about this, whats good for florida is bad for others... Why cant it just "hold position" over the atlantic? ::) )
Really?? Last projected path I saw showed it hitting Florida straight on.
Ahhh...here's what was on ABC News
Woah! Your right! It wasnt going that direction a day ago! *grown* not another hurricane... One was enough. :-\
*starts praying*
...one of my uncles lives in Forida as well...
Update on Ivan...it's now jumped back up to a Category 5 (165 mph winds)...and 56 people have been killed from it. :'(
(http://image.weather.com/images/maps/tropical/strm9_strike_720x486.jpg)
And for those who don't know the states and are wondering...Tennessee is that state the line for Wed. PM is going through...it looks kinda like a triangle that's been leaned.
The projection for Ivan keeps changing...it could still theorectically follow charlie's path. We've had enormous luck so far here where I live (nearer to Orlando than most but further north). The most damage I've gotten is a dented shed. However, down the street its not so good.
I've gotten to the point now where I just go eh at the damage...I know its bad but its like I'm getting used to it. I just hope no one else is hurt by this one. It is, in effect. Totally and utterly evil.
Here's the current projected path:
They were hoping Cuba would break up the hurricane, but it seems there's no chance of that now... :( And supposedly there's a warm water basin between Florida and Cuba that magnifies hurricanes as well... :(
New projected path:
looks like it's just going to hit the tail end of Cuba...it's in that channel between Yukatan and Cuba...
I hope that it ends before it does anymore damage :-\
Just heard on the news...so far, there isn't another tropical storm brewing in the Atlantic...
*crosses fingers*

Found this online this morning...
Direct Hit Could Sink New Orleans (http://www.cnn.com/2004/WEATHER/09/15/hurricane.ivan/index.html) :(
And I found the new projected path on ABC News...the red dot is the general direction on where New Orleans is since I don't know it's exact location. The purple dot is the general area where I am for those who don't know where Tennessee is :P

They expect it to make landfall near Mobile, this will place it eastward of New Orleans. I was watching Fox news and they stated they don't expect much flooding in New Orleans because it is to the east rather than the west of the city.
QuoteThe purple dot is the general area where I am for those who don't know where Tennessee is :P
It seems to take hurricanes for me to learn geography. I didn't know where half the counties in my own state were before Francis. Now I know where Tennessee is :) (I guess you could call it a lil bit of a silver lining, but not much).
Rune
Yeah...mostly the western states are the ones I can't tell you exactly which state is which on a map. The Northern states, I can tell you which is which on a map, but if you asked me and I DON'T have a map, I can tell you general direction and shape of the state, but not exactly in relation to another state.
BTW, one of my co-worker's mother lives in Mobile...they've had to evacuate...

Official Florida Ivan Tracker (http://www.myflorida.com/myflorida/ivan_tracking.html)
Yeah...I think I've said this before...but the Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief teams are on stand-by until Ivan passes through.
Next one :(
Tropical Storm Jeanne (http://abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20040915_1621.html)
Theres another one ???
Crap >:(, why wont they just die and live everyone *feels like swearing* alone >:(
(then the next one after jeanne will be called karl i think :-\ but thats just the names in advance)
We've had rain and wind all day today...where the "eye" of Ivan used to be located is less than four hours south of here...
Doesnt sound to good :-\
It's over here now...lots of trees down...lots of rain yesterday. But now it's just cloudy.
Well atleast its kinda cleared up now :D
Jeanne and Karl are on their way...not sure if Karl is a hurricane yet...but it is a Tropical Storm... :-\
Well doesnt that just suck :-\ *feels like cursing*
Wish it would just all end :-\
Jeanne is coming to get me!!!!!
THis is really starting to get annoying...
*stabs smiley*
Cesar...you live in Florida?? For some reason, I was thinking you were further north. Shows how much I know.
I didnt know that either :-\
Update: Jeanne will probably not hit land...looks like it's going to turn. Karl may stay in the Atlantic...
Hooray !!!, im so glad to hear ;D
Looks like Jeanne changed her mind...
I saw that on the news about 10 min ago. Not just that, but Ivan did a loop...it's now a Tropical Storm again and in the Gulf...looks like it's going to hit Texas...
POO!
I'm glad I live in the northen part of Texas. :S
Since when do hurricanes loop? :S
That's just plain weird... though I doubt any of the weirdness is gonna subside. We even got tons of tornados in Virginia the past weekend (8 or 10) and we usually don't get tornados hereabouts. One of them was going along the highway just south of home! :o Thank goodness it didn't touch down. :S Manassas is a wreck though.
They loop when the center of the hurricane is knocked back into the Atlantic and catches a cool front that swoops it back into the Gulf...(or so the local news just said)

One of the historical hurricanes at http://www.icflorida.com (click on Hurricane Guide on the right hand side and Hurricane tracker after that...I can't bring up the direct link right now. This isn't my computer and its not working) actually did loop. So it has happened before.
And no, I don't think that this is going to stop any time soon.
I did see some hurricanes bounce a bit, but no looping after they've made landfall. And it looks like Virginia has been hit by its fair share of hurricanes as well...
Is some kinda Paradox occuring or something ???, cos there are hurricanes, tornados, tropical storms and everything :-\ :(
I really don't know what to say cause I live here and I'm just tired of it. I think I'll move to Canada.

Wouldn't she want to come on UP?? :scholar:
<packs things and rides scooter all the way to Canada in the pooring rain and wind>
heh :) You guys have blizzards though don't you and also fuel shortages? Somehow that seems better than this though.
Hey, do they have call centers in Canada?
I don't think there's ever been a fuel shortage. At least, not in any of the cities I've lived in. As for blizzards and call centers, yeah they exist here (unfortunately :P).
<mumbles something about working in a call center> lol
Its still not bad here but I really can't tell anything that much...all the windows are boarded now.
Hope your okay over there, heard the news about Jeanne. :)
I'm alright. I'm just glad Lisa seems to be going out to pasture. Maybe she decided she didn't want to visit disney after all :)
Glad you're doing ok! How close was Jeanne to you??
To be honest I'm not quite sure (would have to go back to noaa and do research. I would rather not look at the noaa right now if I can avoid it. lol) I know though that it was not nearly as bad for me as Charlie or Francis...the eye of Charlie went just due east of us in Altamonte Springs. You could hear the wind ripping at the roof eaves..it was very scarey; then Francis was just torture..the hours..and hours that thing took to get through...and then the lack of power afterwards...
This one didn't hit us too bad though. I think it passed west and then went over Tampa, then up the coast, then into Georgia and the main body of the United States.
