Title: ARTIST WANTED FOR KQ3VGA
Post by: Blackthorne on August 31, 2004, 01:07:56 PM
Hi folks!

I'm Blackthorne, head of Infamous Adventures - makers of King's Quest III VGA.  If you haven't heard about our project, check out our website at www.infamous-adventures.com .  There's also a thread here in the Adventure Gaming section.

Anyway, I've seen some great art here, so I wanted to put out this proposal here:  we would like to make some close ups and cutscenes for KQ3 VGA, and we'd like some artists to help us create original pieces for these cutscenes.  If you'd be interested in helping out on this project, please let me know!  This project is gaurenteed to finish, and plus you'd get to play the game before anyone else.  As an added bonus, we'll through in a Salad Shooter. Okay.  I'm kidding about the Salad Shooter, but you'd get credit for working on what I promise to be a great remake.  Let me know, either via email, ALEXANSG@YAHOO.COM, or PM me, OR visit our forums, www.infamous-adventures.com/forums .  Thanks!  Have a great day!

Sincerely,

      Bt

Uh, isn't it a little unprofessional to post job ads on someone else's forums?

That's the first thought I had, but if KQ9 has a problem with it, they'll tell him.

I see fangame makers advertising positions on other forums all the time... in fact, IIRC, KQ9 has done it themselves. (shrug)

Well, since we're not doing this for any money, and strictly for the love of the game - I didn't think it would be a problem.

I figured that there would be talented people here who LOVE King's Quest, and would love an oppurtunity to be a part of what we hope will be a fantastic remake.

I didn't think it was uncouth; if we were competing projects in the REAL world of development, it might be not-so-tactful, but we're all fans here - and I was just extending an invitation and oppurtunity..... some people around her draw fan-art things all the time...... Imagine if you had something you did in a game!  It would be so much fun - and remember that, because that's what this kind of stuff is all about.  It's just for the love; it's a labour of love.

I was just extending a hand to anyone who would like to help create!

You might want to submit a comment here too.

A lonely deviantART community... (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=1586;start=msg69820#msg69820)

If you're not a member, I(or someone else) will submit your request for artists.

LN,

If you would submit the request for me, I would be eternally grateful, plus I'd put your name in the Special Thanks section of the credits.

If you could include my letter from the start of this thread, that would be great!  Thanks!

Doing it all the time sounds kind of spamming Neil, whenever I've given then go to post stuff in other forums has been when it's about events and important stuff related, in the right places due the huge research we've done previously with Eric, and even then we always check out policy and email webmasters.

Anyhow, to state clear, I don't believe there's a problem about it since we are a fan-based community which obviously supports the same. Welcome to kq9 forums Blackthorne, feel free to share as much info as you'd like from your project with us, post stuff if you'd like, hang around, be silly, have fun, whatever :)

Done.

If you want to view it later, it should be on their page.

P.S. Since some of your post was connected with this forum, "PM me" , I edited the message slightly. If you wanted me to leave it like it was, I'll resubmit it again, in it's original form.

Hey, Blackthorne!  Have you checked out the KQ3+ thread (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=1026) in the adventure gaming section?  I dunno if you've got it all written and stuff, but it might help you if you're looking for idea! :) I personally can't wait for you to finish!

EDIT (By Yonkey): Added the link. :P

Yes, actually I followed the KQ3+ thread here for a while, and enjoyed some of the ideas very much.

But our game is really more like a 1:1.5 remake.  We haven't changed any of the plot, nor added anything that radiacally changes it.  The only things we are really adding are some Cut-Scenes to give the game a cinematic feel and connect the story to later King's Quest's.

We may do a "+" version sometime in the future, but I believe, personally, that some things are better left unchanged and unsaid - that's what your imagination is for.  To fill in those gaps and to dream where someone else didn't.

Sounds good to me!  I never played the original before, so when yours is out I'll get a chance to experience it. :)

Same with KQ1 and KQ2.  If it weren't for AGDI, I would never have been able to play them.  8)

Oddly, unless you played it when it first came out, you'll be missing some of the fun(The shock of playing as a slave, instead of royalty). XD

I would guess that he's referring to the fact that you only have a set amount of time after Manannan falls asleep or "goes for a stroll" to sneak out and get all your tasks done before he wakes up/gets back.

I thought he meant the day/night cycle in KQIV. I never had a problem with the wizard catching me(I saved often). That mountain on the other hand...

Half the game took place in the day, and the other half in the night(it even had clocks, so you could tell the time). If that's not a timer, I don't know what is.

I consider KQIV one of the hardest games in the series, only the first was harder(Rumplestiltskin).

Do you die if you take too long to complete it? ???

I'm not sure(I don't think I ever ran out of time). Since the fairy was dying, and only had 24 hours to live(if I remember correctly), if you didn't get her amulet back. If she didn't get the amulet in time, I think she's the one that died(without her, you're father also would die, and you'd be stuck on that island, so you would probably die).

Keep in mind, it's been a long time since I played the game, so I've forgotten a lot of the details(maybe even the part where I ran out of time XD ).

KQ4 IS timed - if you take too long finishing it, the game is over and you get a sad message about how your father and Genesta have died and evil will rule Tamir forever (oddly enough, even if you've already killed Lolotte at that point) :S

Hmm, that Salad Shooter DOES sound tempting... but I'm afraid the only way anyone would ever hire me as an artist is if they were completely blind. Or really fond of badly drawn stick-figures :P

Yikes, I really dislike timed stuff.  KQ9 has a few timed puzzles & sequences, but no timed missions or chapters. :pleased:
Title: Re:ARTIST WANTED FOR KQ3VGA
Post by: Storm on September 03, 2004, 02:45:15 PM
Yeah, especially when the whole game is timed - if you waste too much time in the begining you might reach reach the end a couple of minutes short, and have to restore to a much earlier game to catch up :-\

Truth is, at first I thought the KQ4 time was event-driven since I used a walkthrough :-[
But it's only partly so - you can see the timer if you check the clock at the haunted mansion (use "look time" rather than "look clock") 8)

I actually quite liked this once i found out i had a timer (left the game on for most the day then suddenly it ended hehe) as it added real urgency to what you were doing. The game didn't take more than 24 hours to complete and any sane adventurer in those days kept PLENTY of previous save games.

I keep plenty of saved games too. :P  But I still wouldn't enjoy a game that's timed, unless the day/night cycle is like KQ2+, where it's fairly obvious when the timed sequences start and end.  ;D

First 12 hours of the game=day(pretty birds)
Second 12 hours of the game=night(zombies)

or something similar to that. :-\

Actually, I believe most post called just for 'artist' so perhaps your name is really just Artist?

Anyway, besides the stupid wordplay, Kimmie, if you're at all interested about doing some art for KQ3, it would be closeup/cutscene stuff - please EMAIL or PM me, and I could discuss this further with you, to let you know what kind of ideas I have.... so hope to hear from you.

I thought the music was great in KQIV and I did not take so much time that I died.  How much time does this game give you.  In KQIII the continual timer was a problem for me because you needed to have things done fairly quickly.  I found KQIII a challenging game because of the timer that ran on the main bar on top of your screen.  I really hope AGD does a KQIII + to explain more about the Father.

He zapped me a few times. I liked hiding stuff in my room though, not sure why. :-\

One of my favorite parts, was when I met the oracle(I think that's what it was), and FINALLY had most(if not all) of the pieces put into place. :)

Yeah!  meeting the Oracle was cool  I especially liked that my dad, older brother and I played the game and I was able to figure out that you need to turn into an eagle to get rid of the spider.  My brother thought you could turn into a fly and squeeze through the spider web.   ::)

LOL!! !! !!

That's how I used to play too. I couldn't spell well enough, to play by myself. Well, for the first two games anyways.

I think I just caught on to why I like KQ3 more, and remember it more, than the first two. I had to do most of the typing myself! XD

I liked typing interface used in the early KQ games.  It was fun and exciting even if it took me a while to say fill instead of fill bowl in KQ1 to allow a stew to appear.  :suffer:
