I've left MoE out of this poll since it's too much of an obvious choice. ;P
You may consider original games, remakes and any & all variations of the games (i.e. DOS, Windows, CD-ROM, etc.). :)
I think I'm going with KQ1...I loved the fairy tales in it...but I think it's the main one that could be left out. As far as I know, it's not ESSENTIAL to know that Graham wasn't King of Daventry from the very beginning.
King's Quest 7
This is going to take some thought...
KQ1=told you who Graham was, and made a base for future games
KQ2=Valanice enters the game world, and makes a base for the 3rd's confusing storyline
KQ3=Alexander/Gwydion and Rosella are added to the game world,
KQ4=Rosella's first leading role, a HUGE leap in technology(sounds dumb, but it's true), and Edger enters the game world.
KQ5=Cassima enters the game world, and Graham's back as the player character.
KQ6=Alex/Cassima marriage(and the new kingdom).. didn't add much else, but it was fun to play
KQ7=more backround into Edgar's kingdom... Once again, didn't add much, but it was fun to play
I vote for.... KQ6
P.S. Feel free to correct me

You spelled "Edgar" wrong. XD
I'm voting for KQ2 (the original). I haven't played it myself, but from what I heard, the plot was worse than KQ1. :-X
Thanks for correcting me. :)
Neil's calling a story of true love a bad storyline. :'( XD
I consider KQ6 to be more about true love than KQ2. But yeah, the only good thing I can take from KQ2 is Valanice. :)
Now that I think of it... that IS one of the only reason's it's got an advantage over the others. :P
I've never played KQ2 or 4, so I can't make a fully informed judgement. But personally, I didn't really feel KQ1 had much to say - it wouldn't be any great loss to lose it.
KQ7, cuz in that case I have played at least the latest KQ ::) :D
King's Quest 1 ;)
The KQ1 remake.
I've played the original first, so the SCI wasn't all that big of a thrill for me 8)
I thought the sea-serpents, were a HUGE improvement. ;D
there were sea serpents in KQ1?

In Sierra's KQ1 remake, they replace the alligators from the original KQ1.
I think falling into the moat with them, is my favorite death sequence. ;D
Those were sea-serpents? I thought they were moat-eels ;)
o..k, I didn't noticed, ...and i never fell in :-\
KQ5. I didn't like that one.
EDIT: Who voted KQ6?!
KQ2. Not much to see there.
The original KQ2. KQ2+ gave the game, well, a reason for being there, what with the actual plot and all, and making it much more relevant to the rest of the series. The original? Bah! You walked into the tower room and this girl says she'll marry you because you gave her some earrings you found in a tree and paused to ask her name?! Not *quite* my idea of finding true love. Valanice had more involvement in KQ2+, though, and it actually gave her a reason for liking Graham, too.
I'd otherwise vote for KQ7, I think. While I enjyoed it and all, it seemed very... separate from the other games. Oh, sure, tied in Edgar again and all, but... I dunno. The others maybe connected more for me.
Yeah, after the original KQ2, my second choice would probably be KQ7. I'd still keep KQ1 since it proves how noble Graham is, and shows how he actually became King when he wasn't related to royalty at all. ::)
I don't know if we're even told in any of the other games that Graham isn't related to royalty. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...so that's why I chose KQ1...didn't feel like it was absolutely necessary *shrugs*
I'm not sure if it was brought up in other games either. :-\ But it makes him seem less "Paris Hilton" and more like someone that earned the crown and kingdom. :P
well he probably is royalty, i mean; most knights (and he was a knight, wasn't he?) are ...i think :-\
I don't remember where, but didn't someone consider/try making a Kings Quest 0?
Oh well, I'm probably just remembering a conversation in the forum. :)

Without KQ1, you wouldn't know Graham was once a knight. ;D
:P good point ;)
I’d omit “King’s Quest VII†because I didn’t care for the immature turn the story and art took. That and it never seemed to work right on my computer… :suffer:
That’s just my two cents…

Then you have missed one of the finer moments of KQ1 ;)
I might be wrong(she might have just been saying how bad KQ1 was), but I think Storm and I agreed on something! :o
*grabs history book*
*begins writing*
Well...it depends on how you classify them. Lousiana went by what added to the storyline...and by that measure it makes sense. However, I have a feeling all of these games will be also be tied together in KQ9 from what I see so far (feel free to correct me). So that kinda negates that really, if they are all tied together in this new adventure. Anyways, I guess I'll base mine on pure annoyance.
The original KQ2 made absolutely no sense and was just a buncha fairytales all tied together. I'm sorry but I found it irritating beyond words. Especially the horrible purple landscape behind that silly looking door. When I was finished playing it I was like..whah? So that gets my vote.
Rune
-Maybe I should ask someone to shoot me but I loved KQ7 and Mask of Eternity.
/me decides to be nice to Rune and not pull out her knife for Rune liking MoE
Good.
*decides to protect Rune, from Cat's gun*
But I don't own a gun ::)
I said kings quest 4 because the only inportant thing is Edgar and it was not as fun :(
Drop KQ1. Quest to secure three lost artifacts of nominal importance? That just isnt exciting anymore... :-\
I don't see how anyone could want to remove KQ1. Every quest must start somewhere.
well, you don't remove the start of a quest you just move it a bit... look at SW VI ::) ;-D
Hee.
Actually, KQ3 would make a good secondary start for the series, IMHO.
Peace & Luv, Liz
