Okay, so I have gmail and I've got like 6 invites sitting there doing nothing.
Does anyone want gmail? Post here and let me know what email address to send the invite to!
*wonders why there's a gmail thread, in so many forums*
*wonders what an invite is*
I have six as well. I gave one to my sister and one to my dad, but if anyone here is in desperate need of one, just post here. ;D
Currently, the only way to get a Gmail account is by invitation. Gmail is a web-based e-mail system by Google that provides 1 GB of storage. :)
An invite is a chance to participate in the GMail "beta". In other words, you can't get a GMail addy unless you have an invite.
Not interested myself... I like POP mail better and I hear the interface won't work right with Opera until the next Opera version anyway.
Edit: Dammit, Yonkey stuck me pulling a Jeysie again. XD
Peace & Luv, Liz
I've been offered Gmail so much, that I thought anyone could get an account, by just signing up. XD
*thinks about 1gig of storage*
If I get another address, I'll just confuse myself. So thanks for the offer, but I don't want one.
Heh, I've been so used to Hotmail's 2MB that so far I've only used 1MB of the 1GB. ;D
I just hated how Hotmail would always clog up so fast whenever I got huge forwards or really huge attachments.
EDIT: Not to mention the amount of spam I would get daily. :X
ME PLEASE ME PLEASE! omg ive waited so long and I asked Neil a few months back and he couldn't even figure out how to get a invite sent out! But yeah ME PLEASE! ;D
I never got any invites back then. It was only like a month after having it that they finally gave me some. :P
Anyway, remind me when I'm online and I'll send ya one. ;D
I want to attempt Gmail! Jason said he'd send me an invite, but I haven't heard anything yet. I figured if for some really weird reason I got on some team *coughKQ9pleasecough* I might want an email addy with lots of storage to dedicate specifically for the project...Of course, this is only if I won't have to pay for it after beta is done.
*wonders if Cat's appllying for a position*
They can charge, but they dont know where you live and they dont know your Credit card number ;)
GMail sounds cool... If someone wants to send me an invite Ill give it a shot. 8)
Don't worry Cat, it's free.
Okay, so Alex, Cat and Fatali, I've got you all down--but I need an email address you currently use to send you one! PM me with it if you don't want to post it here, please. :)
I just sent one to Alex. ;D
Mine's koko_99_2001@yahoo.com
LN, I would love to apply for a position...I just don't know if I have the talent or the time to do so... :(
can i have one please?
You have talent...
I don't know about time though. :-\
EDIT: Since Kimmie's there now, I guess my post is for both of you. :P
Cat and Kimmie--sent! And alex, well, you'll have two invites now!
I already got a Gmail. It's really not that clogged up. I'm used to 10MB storage with Warpmail, tho.
lol...already enjoying gmail! Especially the partial chat feature!
I can't "Send" with my gmail. That makes me angry.
Won't G-Mail have targetted ads?
I heard about that too... :-\
As useful as 1 gig of storage might be, if there's going to be that absurd ad thing then no thanks. ;) Yahoo has a dang good spam filter now and 100 megs of space as well, not bad. ;)
...that ad thing might especially be awkward if someone is emailing about breast cancer and a porno ad shows up. :o

Spam and ads are why I left yahoo, actually. My bulk mail was getting ridiculous, and it was annoying. I don't even *see* what goes into my spam folder, or if anything's in there, unless I choose to go into it no gmail.
Gmail has some ads on the sides of its screen, but they're text-only - no annoying banners or flashy pictures. I actually had to go look at where the ads were to know, I didn't even remember! They're that subtle; and yes, they are targetted but in theory it's targeted at things you like from keywords in your mail or headers... or maybe it was stuff you click on when signing up, I forget. Either way, the ads are off on the side of the window and barely ntoiceable, like I said.
Personally, I like it much better!

Well, I think it's got something to do with this computer and such. But my send button just doesn't work. :S
The text ads at Google are way less intrusive than Hotmail's or Yahoo's. I would take Google's text ads over banners & pop-ups any day. :P

Well...POO!
You are not concerned over your privacy, Neil?
Lol whats teh worst that can happen? Some company knows that Neil sends alot of emails titled OMGWTF?
Well, if it's just text ads then I'll definitely accept that invite. :) My bulk mail in yahoo was getting a little high, after all. ;P

I actually don't use my gmail account for regular e-mails. I do get the occasional real e-mails there, but I use that account usually for forum notifications, job sites and other stuff that I don't want to use my ISP e-mail for. ;D
Also, your privacy could be invaded at any time, unless you own your own e-mail server. ;D
I got my gmail from Yonkey, looks pretty nice so far. ;D
Are we going to be told anyone's gmail addys??
Mine is oldbushie at gmail dot com. ;D
mine's
koko992001 at gmail dot come
If you need to contact me, use MSN or my @kq9.org one. ;D
You're no fun, Neil! :(
:P
mines :P
racx.00@gmail.com :D
Dew: Yonkey's right... technically any e-mail you receive or send can be read by the sysadmin of your mail server. So if you need your e-mail to be private, you either need to encrypt it, send it from a server where you're your own admin, or better yet, don't use e-mail. ;P
Peace & Luv, Liz
Easist way=send messages via e-cards XD
I guess snail mail still has some relevance. lol :o
Hmm. If anyone needs a way to offload invites, this looks interesting:
gmail invite spooler (http://isnoop.net/gmailomatic.php)
Peace & Luv, Liz
I have invites working now :P, so if you would like a gmail account just let me know :D
You're a little late, hun...I already have one. Sorry :P
Scam alert:
Phishing For Gmail Accounts (http://www.webpronews.com/news/ebusinessnews/wpn-45-20040913PhishingForGmailAccounts.html)

I dont really see the point in these Gmail invites. I have got gmail, and so has everyone else. I you want one, let me, or anyone else in this thread know. ;)
GravityMX@gmail.com :P
If you want to be nice to others, go to http://www.gmailswap.com and drop some invites in there! :)
Those people are really desperate :-\, oh well guess ill ask if any want to get invited :P
Okay. I don't need the space now, but I can see why I'd run into trouble in the future. In other words, I DO NOT like deleting e-mails. :P
If anyone's willing, please send me an invite. :)
P.S. If there's anything I should know first(something that could conflict with Linux, as an example), please tell me.
If you guys cant managed to get invited, then dont worry :P. Hotmail announced in June that they will be increasing the inbox of free accounts from 2mb to 250mb :o, plus increased antivirus, and 10mb attachments ;D.
Think back to all those times we complained to Microsoft >:(.

Positive thinking :D
Wait, if you ALL gave me invites, I'd have more space than on my hardrive! !!!
That's positive thinking. ;D
In case I forgot to post it, thanks GravityMX. ;D
Anyone want gmail ???

*Raises hand*
How do people get those invites in the firstplace, anyways? :-\
Google hands em out to accounts after you've been with them for a while. Want me to send one to you?
EDIT: Just sent one to Storm. :D
Thanks!! :D

Ah, but how do you get an account unless you get an invite? :S
No idea, I got invited from someone that got invited, that got invited from someone that got invited, etc. :P
Does any1 know when G-Mail is going to be officially realeased? ??? :-\ :s
Storm: My guess would be that the original accounts were given to Google employees, members of Google's services like Blogger, maybe some high-profile Net journalists, that sorta thing. Dunno for sure, though.
Peace & Luv, Liz
I also thought it was something like that... it's interesting how far it spreaded 8)
Does anybody still have an invite left to give to me ??? It seems it's still not been released to the public thusfar. :-\
Sure, I actually still have 50! XD Just send me an e-mail so I know what address to send the invite to. :)
It says 50 but its probably a lote more. Some of my buddies did a test, sending 100 something invites and after a while it went back to 50 :P
(it was mayhem but somehow they ended up with a ton of unused gmail accounts and "50" invites in each :-X )
Ah, there are the invites. I was wondering where they hid them. It says 50 here too.
over 14,000 invites here ;)
http://www.highwayman.org/gmail
Plenty to go around ;B
Google has just released it's own IM known as Google Talk!
http://www.google.com/talk
I just got it.... 900k.. no advertising..3 seconds to install....amazing!! :o
Quote
They say talk is cheap. Google thinks it should be free. Google Talk enables you to call or send instant messages to your friends for freeâ€"anytime, anywhere in the world!
Google Talk is in beta and requires a Gmail username and password....
Could use more features though such as group chat, and file transfers. Not too sure on the quality of the VOIP though...
So far I'm lovin it. How long do we expect this in Beta? 2-3 years? ::)
Hmm, looks as if you've got to give permission if you want someone else to add you to their buddylist here too. 8)
FWIW: If you're using Linux, as I am, that's another reason to use GAIM. 8)
