Shamefully robbed from another forum i visit but hey ;D
So yeah basically have you ever made a prat of yourself by not knowing something thats pretty obvious to the rest of the world?
I'll start with one, my Sister didnt realise that KFC actually stood for Kentucky Fried Chicken :|
Gee, where do I start? :P I've done this so many times I don't even remember them all, although I'm sure Harrison would be happy to remind me if he was home.
I guess I'll mention the first thing that comes to mind. The *entire* world doesn't know this, but I still felt pretty dumb that it took me as many years as it did to figure out that the symbol of the New York Yankees was made up of a stylized N and Y. :P
Peace & Luv, Liz
For the longest time, I was sure the G in "Genesta" is pronounced like the G in "guess" (until you posted that pronounciation guide, that is) :-[
It's not like I've heard it spoken ever... but no one commented on that so I guess everyone pronounced it the correct way all along :-\
I didn't really make a prat of my since I've never told this to anyone.
Crap :P
Ah well storm, making a prat of yourself isnt a requirement for this thread (thankfully) :D
Even if it was a requirement, I'm sure I could easily fill it... ;)
I've posted this elsewhere, but it was a recent realization, so I'll post it in here also.
I took me forever to find out, that parishes were only in Louisiana(out of the 50 states). :-\

They're called parishes here too, what are they called in the other states?
When I was little, I used to think anti-freeze was the same thing as winshieldwasher fluid. XD
I believe parishes are the equivalent of counties.

You learn something new everyday. ;D
Oh, nevermind then. By parish I thought he meant the term for a Catholic congregation.
That was my original interpretation as well
Thing I didn't know but everyone else did= That the Catholic church, was the reason they're called Parishes(I found out, when I was 12-14). :P
Another one=that the other states, don't have Napoleonic Law(I think Quebec is the only Canadian Province, that has it). XD
*waits for people in forum, to look it up*
P.S. I'll stop posting my confusion, about the difference between Louisiana, and the other states.

Quebec also a couple other things the other provinces don't, but I won't get into that. ;-D
It took me over a year to figure out that PS2 meant Playstation 2. When I finally found out that PS2 had something to do with the Playstation 2, it was over a week, before I found out that the controllers didn't use PS/2 ports. :P
Well it used to refer to IBM computers. :P
For another one, see above. :P
When, on a forum (might have been this one, don't remember) someone mentioned MI2, I thought it was a game about Mission Impossible. Luckily it didn't take long for someone to point me in the right correction. :P
This probably goes under "Stupid things you said or heard," but it's close enough. When I was doing the 30 hour famine with my church, I noticed a sign that said THIRSTY in big letters and had tally marks under it. I thought it might've been how many people were thirsty but we were allowed to drink so I didn't really get it. I pointed to it and asked "What does that mean?" My friend oh so coolly replied "Uh, thirsty." It didn't answer my question but it got me the reputation of being true to my highlights. :P

Or they could read the Tennessee William's classic, "A Streetcar Named Desire."
Quote"Now listen. Did you ever hear of the Napoleonic code, Stella?...Now just let me enlighten you on a point or two...Now we got here in the state of Louisiana what's known as the Napoleonic code. You see, now according to that, what belongs to the wife belongs to the husband also, and vice versa...It looks to me like you've been swindled baby. And when you get swindled under Napoleonic code, I get swindled too and I don't like to get swindled..."

That has a nice, simple explanation and that quote from SND. :D
Ugh, my English Comp 101 teacher was obsessed with early 20th century American writers, so we had to study things like SND and Death of a Salesman in way more detail than I ever wanted to. So depressing. x.x
I never understood how books with titles such as "Death of a Salesman" or "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" can sell. I mean, why do we care about Brooklyn's vegetation. :P Then again, I've never read either of these books. So maybe I'm the one missing out.

I guess you don't get very many telemarketers calling you. ;-D

LOL! But cha' know what? Caller ID saves us. I watched a CSI where telemarketers ended up killing someone.
Lol, yeah, I saw that CSI episode, too. Death of a Salesman, however, is a pretty good play, IMHO.
Let's see, I live in Vermont, so there's a lot of things I don't know but everyone else on earth does . . . thing is, I probably still don't know 'em!
Found out only recently what btw and IIRC mean :P

I had one like that I just figured out. I thought that the icon for Microsoft Excel was just an X with a funny hook on one side. Now I see that it's actually an X with one half being made out of a slanted L, sygnifying Excel (XL).
