Well, let me give you a brief geography lesson, boys and girls.

In this first image, we have a map of Canada.  Remember, it's the 2nd largest country in the world!  And just to put things into perspective, from the west coast to the east coast, it is approximately 8000 km, or 5000 miles.

What we see here is the country divided into ten provinces and three territories.  I'm originally from the small province of Nova Scotia, on the east coast (the right of the map).  I now live in Alberta, the large provice second from the left.

In this second map, we have a map of Alberta.

Calgary is closer to the south.  It has a population of about 1,000,000 people.  You can also see the capital, Edmonton, which is slightly south of the exact middle of Alberta.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask. :D

Well, I'm going to brag here and say that I already knew where Calgary was.  Mainly because I was playing around one evening and looked up where everyone lives on some maps! (but before then...hadn't even really heard of it!)

[whisper]
More than 50% of American students can't find Canada on an unmarked map.
[/whisper]

Calgary was also host of the 1988 Winter Olympics....which was also the debut of the Jamacian Bobsled team. (Anyone see "Cool Runnings"?! :D)

On a nice day, you can see the Rocky Mountains from the city.  Quite beautiful.

Heh, yeah, J-R's more or less got it. The American education system is pretty dismal when it comes to teaching about other countries. I'm ashamed to admit myself that I can't recognize that many countries, let alone "foreign" provinces or cities, although I usually can at least get the right continent. :P (I do know where Canada is ;) , didn't know specifically where Calgary was, though. :P )

Peace & Luv, Liz

Well, it doesn't bother me so much that people don't know exactly where some cities are.  There would be no way I could do that for the US.  But to not know where your largest (geographically and trade wise) neighbour is....it's kind of offensive.
Heck, even some Canadian kids think that the capital of Alberta is Calgary (when it's Edmonton)  We've only got 13 governmental regions....it isn't that hard.  But oh well

Anyway, that's why I gave the lesson.  I knew at least someone wouldn't know where Calgary is. :D

yeah that why I was confused Cat didn't knew it, cuz well... you are neighbours ; ) ....and if it was a small country like the one i'd live in I could understand it ; )

although our capital is kinda well known... for various reasons ; )

Well, I DO know where Canada is...I've known that as far back as I can remember (well, in school, that is!).  However, like I said, I hadn't heard of Calgary.  Rob, it could be because James is pretty much on one side of North America and I'm on the other side. I have seen "Cool Runnings", but I haven't seen it in forever!  Guess that means that I have to rent it and watch it again!

BTW...who said I was a stalker?  :P

I can localize most of the EU- and American countries (not US-states) on a map. Countries outside of those 2 regions, I can usually tell which continent they're on, but that's as far as it goes. Also, I sorta know the location of the capital cities of the majority of EU-countries (although, now that we're 25 big, I might have shifted to medium).
Koko, did you find Westerlo, Flanders, Europe too? ::)
