*deletes post that would prove MoE was the best game in the series* ::)

I'd say it was because the Adventure game market was shrinking, and the Action/FPS/RPG game market was growing. Being a business, who's purpose is to make money, they decided to make it for(and sell it to) the Action/FPS/RPG gamers. THAT'S the reason they made made it that way(IMHO).

I still remember the RPG genre's "near-death-experience", but I'm not sure if it had recovered completely by the time MoE arrived :-\

P.S. I SERIOUSLY considered "They wanted to ruin Connor's reputation", but we all know that was just the result of them trying to make money(they couldn't have cared less about Connor, or his reputation). :'(

So Right, LN!  It's all about the money --- imo Sierra used to be cool but lost that coolness when they became part of CUC and became too large a company

Imo, Mask of Eternity was made really dark and made the way it was because Sierra hoped to tap into the Doom market but along the way they alienated their fan base and ruined one of the best computer gaming series known to humankind.

:furious:

Jason, there are zero votes for "They wanted to ruin Connor's reputation"(at the moment). Did you forget to vote, or did you vote for something other than that? ???

The game was designed by a committee.  Roberta Williams had her own ideas about how the game would be designed, but she was overruled by the other members of the committee, each of which had his own ideas and wanted to put his own personal imprint on the game.

I would very much like to see Roberta Williams publish her original plans for the game so that someone could remake it the way it was originally intended to be made.

Yeah, that's what they tell you to fool you into thinking someone actually put some thought into that piece of crap ::) But the real reason is, as previous posters already mentioned, money, money, MONEY :stabs:

That's not what they tell us; that's what Roberta Williams tells us.

Actually, everything has four causes, according to Aristotle.  The profit motive was the final cause, the committee was the efficient cause, Roberta William's idea was the formal cause, and the previous games were the material cause.

Well, I have never cast a vote on these polls and I will keep up that tradition by simply casting my opinion;

Whilst some claim it was money, others say it was bad management, some say they wanted to attempt to move the series onwards using different "techniques," I simply say that it was a combination of all three and some rotten luck (well, on Roberta/Ken's part anyway) due to the ignorance of a few greasy pieces of s**t who thought they knew better.

I have played limited chunks of MOE and to be honest, as a standalone game (ignoring the KQ legacy) I find it quite enjoyable (although the voice acting is hardly stunning and graphically it is hardly the best 3D I have ever seen, although technology has seriously advanced since then so that latter point is invalid.)

Some of you say it was to ruin Conner's reputation; I am assuming you do realise that Conner didn't even exist before MOE so he had no reputation to ruin beforehand!  ;)

Still, if I ever complete my MOE remake, I hope to heal some old wounds! (thats my plug for the day done!)  ;)

Like LN said, the computer game market seems to sway towards fps/action rather than adventure/rpg.

They could have atleast made it a decent action :-\

Somehow, that would have made it worse... if MOE had been a smash hit, King's Quest might have continued as an action/adventure series :o
