Title: is there still hope?
Post by: yoshiwam on February 22, 2005, 03:43:42 PM
well, point & click adventure games are...well...dead...

but is there still hope?

I think there is, because Nintendo launched the Nintendo DS, a portable gamboy with a touch-screen and a stylus. I think this would be the perfect piece of technology for Point & clicks! Maybe Sierra should consider making games, which they've made quite well over the years ^^

I really, REALLY hope they'll make some  :D Maybe another kq or sq game^^

so what'd'ya think

Seems like a good platform for it...

but I think Adventure games would be even more of a niche market on the DS than the PC ( unless they were creative about it, and didn't stay with the generic style of Adventure games ) . :P

btw, you might want to look at this thread also.

Adventure games of the future (Not 21st century ;p)  (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=2249)

Adventure games are alive and well, but there is no market for them at the moment due to the fact that adventure games were big at a time where the computer users were older, and certainly more patient.

Also, since it is such a dead market very few companies dare take a chance with it, knowing it will fail. (seems logical)

The market today exists for mainly RPG's and FPS's, things like adventure games will probably never return.

I think the future will be as such that you will see a few ocasional adventure games pop up, but nothing grand since the great minds have all moved on or focuse on something else, and also fan-based projects like these help keep the genre alive, THANKFULLY! ... go KQIX!  ;D

It's great that some of the original groups are reforming, like TellTale Games. They're making a Bone game! :D

Mark my words, NDS will be the platform where adventure games will be reborn. Developers would be stupid to ignore the amount of interactivity available with it that could be directly applied to the adventure game market.

Here's hoping! I'd definitely upgrade from SP to DS if they did...  :)

I agree, with the stylus it makes it a natural fit for old adventure games.  In fact, there's a few promising adventure games coming out on Nintendo DS (no I don't work for Nintendo)
