Title: Voice recordings - please!
Post by: Drunken Chinchilla on April 18, 2005, 04:20:05 PM
Hello one and all!

I've got an assignment due in a month for uni where we are to make a five minute audio composition. Sooooo I have decided in my infinate wisdom on two concepts - "Bodily noises" and "Accents and Words"

The point of this thread therefor is for me to ask anyone reading if they can record a set of sentances which I'll list below.

First off...just a sentance saying your name like "Hey/Hello/Hiya/Hola/etc this my name: _insert name_

Then another thing would be if you could count from 1 to 10 and a regular speed.

Lastly...just anything that you feel like saying! I know thats pretty general but I dont want to influence anything you may say so it sounds as natural as possible.

Also another note, if english isn't your first language (or even if it is :p) could you also do the above things in your native/alternate language? I'll be hugely grateful if anyone posts anything at all so...yeah...im feeling a bit out of it and ill atm so i apologise in advance if this is a bit garbled!

Send anything you do to a_c_saunders@yahoo.co.uk please!

Many many thanks and genuine gratitude,

Me!

Glad you liked it, Sexy. But I still didn't find it all that awesome. Probably because that's how I usually speak. But my saying "talk" is awesome! :P

I'll dig up a link to a kick ass free recorder thats so much better than the one included with windows, just gotta remember where i saw it!

But come on people, record away! Im thinking about making up a poem with your random words and you'll get to hear the whole messed up results! ALSO you'll be listened to by various sound and multimedia professors and students! What more could you ask for!?

Both would be incredibly cool! Say some cool portugues sentances, and definately count if you can too, i have a vague sketchy idea about something to do with numbers :D

Try Linux, fiddle around a bit and you'll soon know what I'm talking about. For starters, just take a look at the screenshot, and bear in mind that list was longer before I started fixing them yesterday.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of updating your software, why not use just use the software you have (unless you have some very odd distro, that lacks it ;P), and convert it to ogg?

There's always Glame (http://glame.sourceforge.net)... but I have doubts that you use Gnome(since I have only heard you speak of KDE). :-\
Title: Re:Voice recordings - please!
Post by: copycat on April 29, 2005, 04:31:59 PM
The problem in my current setup lies in the transfer of the sound that is entered into my mike to the processor to be saved into a file. If I push up the vomume loud enough, I can hear the sound coming in in my headphones, but the sound program doesn't register the input. :-\
And yes, I use KDE.

Did you make sure that the mic was selected as the recording input(in the KDE volume controls)? :P

What do you take me for? If I didn't select the mic as input, how do you think I could hear myself talking? Oh, and it's in the KDE Mixer controls. :scholar:

I don't know how it works on your PC, but on mine, I can hear the input anyway(whether or not it's selected as the recording device).

and besides, I'm grasping at straws here. ;)

P.S.
Thanks for the correction. :P

Yes, me too, and even the Novell Support forum seems unable to help me on this matter. It's kinda frustrating. It worked in SuSe 9.1 (but that installation is completely gone to the sharks), it still works in XP, so why it doesn't work in SuSe 9.2 is a big ?. :-X

My wav's are being uploaded via e-mail as I write this. I think the question now is: will Alex's mailbox be able to receive such a large e-mail? ::)

OMG I forgot again.  I can't believe it, I forgot in like 20 seconds. :sweating:
Here, I'll do it right now!!  RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT NOW!!!!

I feel like a terrible person. :P

P.S. Sorry, but even though I made you wait forever, I'm only doing it in English.  My Italian's not very good, especially since it's been so long since I've been in class...
