Title: Secret code in KQ4
Post by: Deloria on March 01, 2006, 01:40:27 PM
I found an old AGI version of KQ4 and decided to play it through for old times' sake. I got all the points and activated the "Beam me* easter egg, after I'm done with the game, I watch Graham get better and the entire family if grinnning manically and then it says at the bottom of the screen your secret code is: ... then I see a lot of numbers and letters at the bottom of the screen. Frankly I'm puzzled. Was I supposed to call Sierra's hotline number with this code and request a prize of some sort? Now, of course, that's impossible, but what was the code for?

IIRC, it was a code for a jackpot-ish thing. I think you called in the the hotline to see if you won.

Probably was. I just got a different code.  :P ::) Still, I thought Sierra would be above that kind of thing.

In Lolotte's castle, I think after you kill her,  you go into this one hallway, type "beam me," and have a nice chat with the creators. :P

You could have won a trip to the UK! ;P  At least, according to someone at Sierra Gamers (http://www.sierragamers.com/aspx/templates/modern2.aspx?msgid=-8498&parm1=tid&parm2=3839):

QuoteThat secret code was part of a sweepstakes.  A trip to the UK, if I remember correctly.  When you won the game, you could write the code down on an entry card and send it in to Sierra to be entered in a drawing.  Whether or not anyone won, I don't know.  As far as I know, this was only part of the first SCI version.

I've heard about that contest thing... but if it was only on the SCI version, how come it shows the code on the AGI one? :S
Also, I don't recall seeing any codes on the SCI version :S :S

Maybe the guy meant AGI instead of SCI. ???

I thought that might be the case as well...
But according to this (http://www.vintage-sierra.com/kq/kq4v2.html), the SCI version did have the contest thing. However, the AGI version (http://www.vintage-sierra.com/kq/kq4v1.html) also had the contest sticker, so maybe he was wrong altogether? :S

Probably.  It's not like he's a reliable source or anything. :P It looks like the code was in both versions.

Yeah, the code was in the original versions. Since the AGI and SCI were released at the same time, both had the code. Once it was put in the collections, they took it out.

I honesty can't remember.  I remember my other Sierra t-shirt had a castle on it and was gray.
