Title: Thank you!
Post by: Eros4tw on April 24, 2006, 04:12:48 PM
I just want to say Thank You to the people who made this game happen!  I grew up on classic Sierra games (Kings Quest, Quest For Glory, Gabriel Knight ect), and have always loved them.  I even get cravings now to play through the games again.

I do have a question though, will the game play style be more like Kings Quest 1-7 or more like KQ8?  Meaning that, will the character you ar eplaying gain "levels" through fighting different monsters and be able to "loot" monsters as well as solving puzzles and such...or will the game be mostly walk around click and solve puzzles?

Thanks again for making this happen!

Welcome! ;D

Gameplay is more like KQ5 & 6, in the sense of it being screen-to-screen point & click.  There aren't any monsters to kill or anything like that, it'll be solving puzzles through character interactions and object manipulation (i.e. Eye, Hand, Walk, Talk, Use cursors).  :)

Hopefully you guys wont do something like they did in KQ6 where if you didnt talk to that damn clown in the very beginning of the game you couldnt complete the game!   :o

Is the character we are going to play as always be the same character?  Or maybe like a back and forth kinda thing like what was done in KQ7?

There are three main parts to TSL. Part one, Shadows, will star Graham. Part two, The Two That Are One, will star both Rosella and Alexander. Part three, Eternities, will star all three. AFAIK, the team hasn't told us how we'll switch characters, but I think it'll be basically event based.

Nope.  I hate dead-ends, and Cesar made sure this game doesn't have any. :P  Even when I thought I found possible dead-ends, Cesar showed how it's not possible to leave a certain area without a necessary object, thereby eliminating the dead-end. :)

And since you have a lot of game-related questions, I'll move this thread to General. :P

You could beat the game without talking to Jollo...you just couldn't get the best ending.

Exactly.

Well, it's not totally beating the game unless you get full points. :P

I think to give the game a little extra challenge, you should make it a DOS based game and put it on 3.5' Floppy Disks, and making it only compatable with Win95

Sorry, they don't have trucks big enough for that many floppy disks around here. ;)

You should see if Sierra would be game to include some of the original KQ games along with this.  Probially something like KQ5&6 since thats what you have said most of the game will be based off (play style).

I doubt they'd want to include the unofficial game with their games, especially if they have their own KQIX planned for the year 2030. Maybe at one time, yes, but not now.

How does the "bosses" thing fit in? ???

There were supposed to be some, but they didn't have neough of a budget.

TSL doesn't really have a budget. :P

See the Making of movie, I think Cesar says, at one point: "But becuase of time and the lack of a budget to work with, we had to cut out." That's what I meant :P

The bosses would make the game a little more interesting! I wouldn't mind waiting a little while longer for the game, as long as you give us some info to tie us over for a while!
Title: Re: Thank you!
Post by: Deloria on April 26, 2006, 01:39:22 PM
But KQ is generally Aventure and killing kind of ruins adventure games (notice MoE) :P
Title: Re: Thank you!
Post by: dark-daventry on April 26, 2006, 02:53:44 PM
I'm not saying that you kill bosses. I'm saying a kind of boss puzzle. Like you have to outwit a minetour, so you have to figure out a puzzle to do it, while in a time-limit or something! I didn't mean MoE type boss. I would have to be shunned from the forums if I did that! That would be considered evil on my part!  :P

You mean like, trying to hit a button from really far away by using a cannonball and a good amount of calclulus?

Or a boss puzzle where you have Insult Fighting? ;)
Title: Re: Thank you!
Post by: Yonkey on April 26, 2006, 03:05:03 PM
Dark-daventry has the right idea.  If we did implement bosses, defeating them would be through solving puzzles (possibly time-limited) or arcade-style logic rather than mindless clicking. :P
Title: Re: Thank you!
Post by: dark-daventry on April 26, 2006, 06:46:17 PM
Oh yeah! I had the right idea! You would probably have to beat shadrack by pressing certain keyboard buttons at a time, within say, fifty seconds, and then you'd have to go through certain other forms of Shadrack... And then there'd be the hidden boss, which will really be the current head of VG, who will be shown in the game as a really badly drawn stick-figure, who throws ink blots at you that distorts your color, and you have to pick up "ink cartridges" that the guy drops in order to maintain "health". The way you'd beat him is by repeatedly using a Pallet and drawing a better body for the guy. But bad artists beware! If you fail in the drawing department, then you get an automatic zero on the hidden score keeper that ensures that if you get a good score, you will be guaranteed a spot on beta-testing for The Two that are One...

XD

And when you win, Cesar jumps out and says "Thank you for playing! Have some fried tofu." And if you actually manage to down the whole thing you unlock the Bloopers reel.

Im a little confused...lol  been talking to several people about this and no one knows for sure

Is this game free?   I keep seeing people saying stuf flike "post a download link" or things like that...and one of my friends said he understood that the game was going to be free...

I guess i dont understand how it could be free...but i just wanna make sure   lol  I would expect to pay for this game like any other new game that would come out, from like 39.99 - 49.99

Yes, it will be 100% free.

As Phoenix does not have the rights to the game, it cannot be sold. The owner of King's Quest, Vivendi, has given permission to release the game as freeware.

The only reason there isn't a download link, is because it's not done yet :P

Everyone working on this game are doing so completely free of charge so the main costs are just to do with maintaing this website.

Welcome btw! :]

Exactly! XD Only he offers you a lot more than that! He offers you McDonalds fried chicken, and the bloopers reel has all of the team members who died from typing code too fast on the keyboard...

Everyone is excited about the download of the game, obviously, but it's not yet completed so obviously there is no download link.

The project IS funded by us, as Rosella said everything comes out of our pocket, and for Alex, there have been more expenses than just the website ;)

And once the game is out, or near of such. You all shall be the first to know :)
