Valanice. After all, we're going to learn a lot about her, so it should only be right that we play her as well. Besides, as Zelly says, we'd be able to control the entire family, which would make it the greatest KQ game ever! (Not that TSL isn't already... ;))

Was Valanice not a playable character in KQ VII???

No, she was playable. I'm sure of that! Also, welcome to the forum!

Valanice! I think she's cool, she loves her family and is a good wife and mother, as well as a good queen. Too bad she only got to raise one of her children. The only game where you get to play Valanice is KQVII, and then only half of the time. Valanice is an elegant and classy lady. And her daughter Rosella is pretty cool too, and so is her gorgeous son Alexander!

Why don't we just put them all together as one character? Multiple personalities! With each chapter, it's essentially the same character, but a different personality! XD

I was going to vote for Tigroat, cause I love him to pieces, but went with the actual real choice, which was of course, Valanice.

Valanice was considered to be given a playable role at some point in my design. As a matter of fact, you started to play the game as her. At that point, there was also the chance to play as Edgar and Cassima in later chapters.

Then I dropped Edgar and Cassima, still considered the Valanice part, but ultimetaly after discussions and disucssions and discussions with the team about the design, we kept only Roseela, Alex and Graham as playable ones, and the rest of the characters as "usable" ones (in some sections). :)

Did the decission to drop Egar and Cassima have anything to do with Akril's KQ9 game?  I was looking forward to playing that game, too, but it appears to be on indefinite hold.

No. had anything to do with that. It had more to do with the "integrity" of the design itself.

I think I know what you mean.  In order for the game to have integrity, then all of the playable characters must be aiming, more or less, for the same goal.  If one were allowed to play two different characters with conflicting goals, it would almost be like cheating, like playing both sides of the game.

This leads me to speculate that Edgar's and Cassima's motives or goals in the game are at odds with those of the playable characters.  Perhaps Valanice's motives and goals are also at odds with those of the playable characters.

Are my speculations correct?  Close?  Hint, hint?

I don't think I was on the team when it was decided who the playable characters would be, but I'm really happy with the choice we picked. 8) Controlling 6 people would have been way too confusing, especially if each had separate inventories and storylines.

3 is a much more managable, and while it would have been great for Valanice to be playable, I think her role in the game as an NPC actually adds a lot more intrigue to the plot. 8)

Hard choice. Too hard...but ultimately I went with Cassima over Valanice. Why? Well, we've already played Valanice once, but never Cassima. Hopefully we may be able to play Edgar in the future, too, but as of now, Cassima is cooler.  :P
