Peter and Jeremy Spear wrote it together. :P

How did you get them? XD

I bought mine at a bookstore.  The first one I bought went up to KQ6.  Then I bought the one that went up to KQ7, so I threw away the first one.  There was never one that went up to KQ-8, so I bought the KQ-8 Strategy Guide instead.

You can buy them at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/007882401X/sr=8-1/qid=1149383561/ref=sr_1_1/102-8348281-3421753?%5Fencoding=UTF8).  Make sure you get the latest one, which goes up to KQ7.

I got the one that went up to 6 at a bookstore. The one Peter and Jeremy wrote together was just 7, but it was better than the companions IMHO.

They do! But the companions are fascinating to read from someone else's point of view. Sometime's they differ a bit from the storyline to explain things that generally make more sense (an example is the catacombs in KQ6, there are inscriptions in the companions, in the game, you have to rely on a walkthrough or the guidebook. But how would Alexander know which way to go?)

To get past the catacombs, my brother and I made a map when he was stuck on the lower floor.  Ironically, the map provided in the guidebook didn't really help at all.  :P

The left page is for the upper floor. The dark spaces are rooms of importance, where it stops, is where there's no floor. The right is for the lower floor

I'd like to get a KQ companion. I would also like to get the KQ novels. I supose the only place to find them is to order online, like at Amazon.com or some other site. Right?

That's where I got my novel...I could only find The Floating Castle  :-\

I bought all three novels used on Amazon.com.  At the time, there were only two copies left of See No Weevil, so I bought the second from the last one.  I just checked Amazon, and there are still two copies left.  It looks as though someone is manipulating the supply to control the price.

The novels are very interesting, as you get to meet some new characters and learn more about Daventry.  Kingdom of Sorrow and See No Weevil were written by the same person and share many of the same characters.  The Floating Castle was written by someone else.  It's somewhat less interesting but still worth getting.

See No Weevil is particularly interesting because you get to meet Rosella's first romantic interest, before she met Edgar.  Then there's the scene where Rosella's in the bathtub, taking a bath, when she hears a knock on the door.  She doesn't bother asking who it is before answering the door, and--well, I'll let you read the book to find out what happens next.

See No Weevil is also the book that I got my username from. ;D

I've seen various versions of the KQ Companion for sell used on Amazon as well, but have never gotten around to buying a copy. I've read the edition that includes KQ 1-7, but not for years now. Checked it out from the library, so some of you might be able to find a copy to read at your local library, if you have one.

Anyways, back on topic....

I think it would be awesome if Peter Spear could write a TSL Companion. It doesn't exist yet, and I already want to read it desperately. Of course that could be because it would contain TSL game spoilers. :suffer: XD

You also need to read the chapter before KQ6, and the chapter before KQ7 in which Derek wrote letters further discussing the eye, and how he sent messages over.

I don't think that's included in my copy, but I'll check :)

Well its chapter 11 for the KQ6 letter from Derek in both the 3rd and 4th edition I think. Chapter name is; "From the Land of Green Isles An Author's Note"

...and chapter 13 for the "From The Eye Between The Worlds" KQ7 related letter from Derek in the 4th edition only.

If that helps.

You can find paraphrases in the King's Quest omnipedia if you are interested.

Okay, yup it did help, but the From the Eye between the worlds is also just in the seventh edition. Thanks :D

4th edition you mean LOL.

I wonder why Peter didn't write a 5th edition... a Derek Karlavaegen written retelling of Mask of Eternity would have really helped the story out :p...

Quote"Actually, I meant the one that just has KQ7, none of the others."

Ahh the "Authorized King's Quest VII Players Guide", which was written as a kind of seperate edition for those that already had the previous companion so they wouldn't have to rebuy the guide.

I didn't know it had chapter 13 in it. I was wondering if that chapter was something that was added for the companion.

I knew it had the KQ7 novelization however.
Title: Re: KQ Companions

It did. :P  It also mentioned the companion could give a fuller and better description of the eye and how it works, though.

I'm curious if there is anything in the Authorized guide that 4th edition lacks?

Was there by any chance any drawn maps of world of eldritch in the book?

Would you be willing to write up a summery of the book in King's Quest Omnipedia?
Title: Re: KQ Companions
Post by: Deloria on June 16, 2006, 01:59:13 PM
Sure ,:D
But the maps weren't drawn, just box-map like.
Title: Re: KQ Companions
Post by: Baggins on June 16, 2006, 02:28:06 PM
Ahh just the traditional adventure game maps :p...

Those are in every guide :-p...

I wonder why they didn't bother to put in a artistic map into the book though... Like was put in for all the lands in previous editions of the companion.

Title: Re: KQ Companions

Well all King's quest novels had connections.

Like the character "Culatha" shows up in 2 out of 3 of the books. She is possibly in all 3 if the "white fairy" in See No Weevil is also her.

As for the companion I always wished that Peter Spear could have done an update for Mask of Eternity :(... it probably could have added alot more to the story...
Title: Re: KQ Companions
Post by: Deloria on June 19, 2006, 01:40:57 PM
Yeah, tis a pity, but I'm not sure even Peter Spear could have done a good job, the story was so bad :-\
Title: Re: KQ Companions
Post by: Baggins on June 23, 2006, 12:09:50 PM
There actually probably less story in KQ2 and he managed to add more to it...

If all the action is the problem you see? Well there have been plenty of adaptations of action adventures and FPS games that were entertaining and even well written...

Imo, the story wasn't "Bad" per se, it just was full of cliches and was kind of weak, do unfortunate removal of several important story elements, that were cut out in order to release the game on time...

Wait, check this out...I had to hunt for approximately 3 months to find the 4th edition.  It covers game I-VI.  But look at what I circled. (Source (http://www.sq7.org/KQ/index.php/King%27s_Quest_Companion))

That pic is really cool! Is it supose to be Rosella and Alexander in it? Looks like Rosella has dark hair and her dress is similiar to the one she wears in KQVII. IN KQIV she wears a red dress and uses a bow to make the unicorn her friend and to kill the villain. The dragon/monster resembles an iguana. I'd like to get the KQ companions.
