All hail Cat's Thread(e)! :D
Long Live Cat Thread, Part Deux.
<3
LOL
Awwwww....so sweet! Thanks James :D
Woohoo, two Cat threads! XD
Too funny! I get two threads :D
Of course, my dear. Who in their right mind could stop loving you?
That's right.
No one! :)
*joins the third Cat Thread as well* XD
I feel a merge comin' on. :P
Man the hatches! Hard to port!
It's madness, I say. but a good madness. :)
*buys a scratching post for the new thread* :D
*merges threads* :P
It's like a Cat's Thread lovechild!
Awww... *dresses the lovechild up in frilly dresses* :D
Oh come on guys...keep it clean :P
I kept it clean. I just thought it funny, the merger. :P
Okay, okay. *puts his hands over the ears of the lovechild* ;P

Long Live Cat Thread, Part Deux.
Actually, this is Cat's third personal thread. XD
Never saw it. :P
I think my mom liked it though.
I saw all three, and enjoyed them all in their own right. :) Back in those days, sequels were fairly consistant in quality. XD
I didn't really like any of them :P
Note that I used the past tense. :P Obviously, compared to movies of today they barely stand a chance. XD At the time however, they were pretty nice. :)
yeh but older movies hav a quaint charm...like jason and the argonauts. Harryhausen's techniques of monster moving, especially with Tailos was freaking terrifying, it still freak me out! :o
And ET is still one of the best movies even tho the effects may be poop compared to today.
But tbh...i hated spiderman. it was all about the graphics and the actual movie was pants!
Aww you didn't like Spider-Man? Well yeah, I found him to be a bit too "wimpy" in the first one, but I thought the second one was a vast improvement in many aspects. I can't wait to see the third. :P
I'm wondering about Superman Returns though. Will this no name dude stand a chance against the Christopher Reeve legacy? :P

Nah, no one can replace Reeve.
Yeah, that's my thoughts as well, but I'll still check out the movie once it's out, just to see for myself. 8)
I probably will too. :)
So Cat, how's the weather over there? :P
I've enjoyed The Breakfast Club recently :) Loved Back to the Future...but it's been forever since I've seen 2 & 3.
Anyway, the weather's beautiful! :D
Never saw the Breakfast Club, but I heard it was good :)
When did Back to the Future become a topic? XD
I liked the Breakfast Club! My mom made me watch it when it came on TV once. :P
EDIT: Ignore the first comment. Once I got to Cat's locked thread, I got it. I'm ok now. :P
Well, that's certainly a weird quote. XD
*pets Cat's cat for good luck* :D
*Cat's cat purrs* :P
Speaking of which, some cats are so cute, I wish I wasn't allergic to them. :'(
Though, I'm not very good at entertaining creatures apart from giving them something to claw at. :P
Psst...Cat...you're my favorite.
But don't tell the others, they'll get jealous. :P
Awww, thank you Q. *psst* With the exception of Jesse...you're my favorite as well :)
*cries* Page 3!!! :'(
Sorry! I forgot all about it! :(
That probably won't make her feel better. XD
We still love you, Cat! *huggles* XD
*huggles* At least your thread had to be recreated because the first one became so large. I doubt my personal thread will ever get as big as your first one! :P
Actually, this is the third thread, isn't it?
Yeah, it is. Congrats Cat, you're the first one to have 3 personal threads! 8)
See? EVERYONE loves Cat. ^^
Wait a sec, how come I don't even have one filled? :P
Don't complain, yours has more posts then mine, and mine is older. ;P
Well I rant in mine a lot. XD
So, the Word Association Game reminded me of something we were told in the VA clinic a few days back. When we're writing notes for clients who didn't show...we're not allowed to say "no show" because it's not PC....the new PC term:
"missed opportunity"
XD Yeah, it got laughs from all of us!
I can't wait for them to start calling it "miss-opp" for short. :P
"What happened to Cindy?"
"She's a mishap."
o_O
XD
lol! Of course, Neil's definition for "no show:"
" 'no show' is the term we use for girls that are too shy to dance"
HAHAHA! That's definitely not me. :P ;D
LOL, I killed the forum!

Yup, that happens when you refresh the page whilst posting.
But, I don't refresh, I just post...

Nope. I've had dial-up all my life, I'm used to it.
Okay. :-\ Can't help you then. Sorry.
It's ok, it stopped. However, I have also now broken the forums. I just got this:

I got that a minute ago as well, I also started spamming there without meaning to (for I had no goal :P), so my theory is, the demons are back. :P
The demons?
Long story, what happened was, I just realized a month ago, that some day in July, I'd have been here for a year, and I really REALLY wanted to be a groupie before then, so I posted 1500 times and became a groupie, but it didn't stop there, because I wanted to be in the top ten, and I realized I would need to post for a few more days at the same rate, before I made it. :P OB was person number ten and he didn't want to give up his place, this started the spam-fest of the forum and I finally beat him. The forum kept crashing after that and Neil (complete log is in "Strange Chats in the night..." thread). Thus was borne the theory that demons had possessed me and the fact that I never meant to spam in the first place. :P
:o
How many do you need to have to be a Groupie?
5000 posts.
Oh, dear......posting time!!! :suffer:
You might make it in time for your two-year anniversary. :)

Cat says she has no response to that. :P
I say "OMGSH WHEE! I'm hanging out with Cat! XD" If that's not worthy of posting in her thread, nothing is. :P

The story behind it:
Strongest Dad in the World
[From Sports Illustrated, By Rick Reilly]
I try to be a good father. Give my kids mulligans. Work nights to pay for their text messaging. Take them to swimsuit shoots. But compared with Dick Hoyt, I suck.
Eighty-five times he's pushed his disabled son, Rick, 26.2 miles in
marathons. Eight times he's not only pushed him 26.2 miles in a
wheelchair but also towed him 2.4 miles in a dinghy while swimming and pedaled him 112 miles in a seat on the handlebars--all in the same day.
Dick's also pulled him cross-country skiing, taken him on his back
mountain climbing and once hauled him across the U.S. on a bike. Makes taking your son bowling look a little lame, right?
And what has Rick done for his father? Not much--except save his life.
This love story began in Winchester, Mass., 43 years ago, when Rick was strangled by the umbilical cord during birth, leaving him brain-damaged and unable to control his limbs.
"He'll be a vegetable the rest of his life;'' Dick says doctors told
him and his wife, Judy, when Rick was nine months old. "Put him in an institution.''
But the Hoyts weren't buying it. They noticed the way Rick's eyes
followed them around the room. When Rick was 11 they took him to the engineering department at Tufts University and asked if there was anything to help the boy communicate. ``No way,'' Dick says he was told. "There's nothing going on in his brain.''
"Tell him a joke,'' Dick countered. They did. Rick laughed. Turns out a lot was going on in his brain.
Rigged up with a computer that allowed him to control the cursor by touching a switch with the side of his head, Rick was finally able to communicate. First words? "Go Bruins!'' And after a high school classmate was paralyzed in an accident and the school organized a charity run for him, Rick pecked out, "Dad, I want to do that.''
Yeah, right. How was Dick, a self-described "porker'' who never ran
more than a mile at a time, going to push his son five miles? Still, he tried. "Then it was me who was handicapped,'' Dick says. "I was sore for two weeks.''
That day changed Rick's life. "Dad,'' he typed, "when we were running, it felt like I wasn't disabled anymore!''
And that sentence changed Dick's life. He became obsessed with giving Rick that feeling as often as he could. He got into such hard-belly shape that he and Rick were ready to try the 1979 Boston Marathon.
"No way,'' Dick was told by a race official. The Hoyts weren't quite a single runner, and they weren't quite a wheelchair competitor. For a few years Dick and Rick just joined the massive field and ran anyway, then they found a way to get into the race officially: In 1983 they ran another marathon so fast they made the qualifying time for Boston the following year.
Then somebody said, "Hey, Dick, why not a triathlon?''
How's a guy who never learned to swim and hadn't ridden a bike since he was six going to haul his 110-pound kid through a triathlon? Still, Dick tried.
Now they've done 212 triathlons, including four grueling 15-hour Ironmans in Hawaii. It must be a buzzkill to be a 25-year-old stud getting passed by an old guy towing a grown man in a dinghy, don't you think?
Hey, Dick, why not see how you'd do on your own? "No way,'' he says. Dick does it purely for "the awesome feeling'' he gets seeing Rick with a cantaloupe smile as they run, swim and ride together.
This year, at ages 65 and 43, Dick and Rick finished their 24th Boston Marathon, in 5,083rd place out of more than 20,000 starters. Their best time'? Two hours, 40 minutes in 1992--only 35 minutes off the world record, which, in case you don't keep track of these things, happens to be held by a guy who was not pushing another man in a wheelchair at the time.
"No question about it,'' Rick types. "My dad is the Father of the Century.''
And Dick got something else out of all this too. Two years ago he had a mild heart attack during a race. Doctors found that one of his arteries was 95% clogged. "If you hadn't been in such great shape,'' one doctor told him, "you probably would've died 15 years ago.''
So, in a way, Dick and Rick saved each other's life.
Rick, who has his own apartment (he gets home care) and works in Boston, and Dick, retired from the military and living in Holland, Mass., always find ways to be together. They give speeches around the country and compete in some backbreaking race every weekend, including this Father's Day.
That night, Rick will buy his dad dinner, but the thing he really wants to give him is a gift he can never buy.
"The thing I'd most like,'' R ick types, "is that my dad sit in the chair and I push him once.''
thats one of the best stories in the world.
*is speechless* :-X

I had a beautiful pet bunny named Rodney. She was a girl, but we didn't know that when we named her. By the time we found out, the name stuck. She treated me like I was her baby, holding down my head with her paws and cleaning behind my ears. She loved to be massaged, and she always knew how to get someone to give her some apple.
In many ways, Rodney was my best friend. She died on February 13 this year. Burying her was easily the hardest thing I've had to do in my life, and to this day I find it hard to visit her grave.

Another cousin has a rabbit she likes so much she makes me wash my hands before I pet it, so let's all wish the Madagascar long-eared-hopping rat (as I call it will affection. :P) a long and full life. :)
For Rodney:
There is always greener grass
Somewhere beyond
And one day, some day
You will see that face
You loved so much
Once again.
Peace is beautiful
And as everlasting
As the love you were given,
The love in your heart.
<3 I am so sorry Tribe. I hope you find this.

tribe, just remeber all of the good times. and were all here for you.
Awww. :-\ I'm so sorry about Rodney Tribe.
My cat sometimes does that...::) It's ridiculously hard trying to read or study when something's sitting on your book and refuses to move. :P
This isn't really on-topic, but I love you. Just wanted to post, just to say that.

I have the same trouble with my brothers. ;D

I'm so sorry about that, Michael :(
*hugs*

Thanks! What's interesting is Monday was the first time she had ever carved a pumpkin (that's before she came to visit)...and last year was the first time I carved one. So these were the second pumpkins we ever carved...and the first ones that we followed patterns with!
Nice! :D
They look like they could totally be from a Halloween e-card! XD
Oooh! Good idea! Too bad I already bought and addressed my halloween cards for this year :-[
at first, i thought you wouldve done the cat one :P
Well, I DO want to carve another pumpkin now!

A what? XD
I second that. A what? Are you talking about pancakes? :P

You love my sister's pumpkin more than you love mine! :'(
And, hmm, a pac-o-lantern...good idea...but probably not, since I'm not quite sure how to do the eye :P
Cut out the eye and outline the Pacman! XD
But then...it's not as much fun about cutting out most of it :P
cut out the pacman shape and then use fishing line to suspend the eye
Or toothpicks. :P
How would toothpicks work? :P
Cut out the pacman and outline the little bit above the eye.

The GREAT: One step closer to graduating with my masters!
Yay Cat!!!! :D
OMGSH! Congrats. :)
I can't tell you how excited I am about it! I got the letter in my mailbox today, and our departmental secretary (who takes care of us like a mother) was in the workroom with me. We're talking as I'm opening the letter...I actually had NO clue it was pertaining to the lit review, since I figured we'd get the whole paper back. Well, I open it, and glance down and it says "Evaluation and Feedback of Literature Review" so I start skimming through, trying to find my score. Didn't see a score, and then skimmed back up and saw "PASS"...and I screamed XD Geri was like "what is it??" and I said "I passed!" she goes "huh?" "I passed my lit review!" and she gave me a huge hug!
Later, I see one girl jumping up and down in the hall, hugging a couple people! XD That's the only response I saw, but I figure there's going to be a lot of happy faces during our conference this afternoon!
OMGSH YAY!!! *hugs Cat!!* ^^
*hugs Kelsey* I'm STILL so excited! I have a lot to do this weekend...but SO much less than I would've if I hadn't passed it! W00T!

YAY! Kimmie was here! But I missed her :'( Come back, come back! :P Take care, girly. I know we'll talk sometime!
Aww...page three. Story of my life, huh?
Well, my second chance on my case was today. How did I do? I have absolutely no clue. Turns out one of my committee members wasn't there. So, my presentation was recorded, and she'll listen to it. When will I find out if I passed? I don't know. But one person told me I did well, and the professor who wasn't there, when I met with her and asked if I'd pass, she said she had no doubt that I would. So...we'll see...
That's good. :) Hopefully it'll all work out great. 8)
You have it in the bag nothing to worry about. ;)
just chill. :P youll pass. we/you know you will!!
Thanks guys. I'll definitely let you know as soon as I know something!
I can't wait to hear that you've passed! :D
No word yet... :-\
I PASSED! ;D I PASSED! ;D I PASSED! ;D I PASSED! ;D I PASSED! ;D I PASSED! ;D
YAY! I'm crying I'm so happy!
Yay!!!! :D :D :D
Ok, now that I have had about an hour to calm down and talk to the chair of my committee...yes, I passed! To kinda clarify for people who don't know exactly what I'm talking about, you know how people in master's programs have a thesis to do? Well, in my program, you can do a thesis, or you can do a case presentation. The case consists of two big things, a lit review (reviewing any literature pertaining to the client you've chosen and the disability/diagnosis as well as a DETAILED summary of everything you did in clinic) and the actual case presentation, where you give the results of clinic and what you learned from it. And, you have to pass that in order to graduate...even if you've passed all your classes. So yeap, I passed it. As long as I pass all my classes (which I will), I'll graduate in May!
About the case, since the chair of my committee wasn't there, they audiotaped it. And the other two members of my committee stumped me with one question (the difference between a delay and a disorder). I tried to answer, but then I was like "but I have to be honest, I don't know. I've always figured they were used interchangeably." So they tried to explain it to me...and when I talked to my chair today, she agreed with me! She spent two hours researching delay and disorder and wrote a two page email to the other members of my committee...and believes that the terms are used interchangeably. So...I answered everything correctly! (Granted, you're allowed one or two missed questions)...I PASSED!
That's awesome news! Congrats Cat! XD
*bakes a congratulatory cake for Cat* :D
*follows suit and bakes congratulatory cookies for Cat*

*is still super happy for Cat*
Thanks guys! I really appreciate it! I'm still so excited! I'm going to graduate :D

So...it's April 15th in Tennessee...and look below to see what's happening here.........
:o In April... jeez.
I know...absolutely insane! Forget the fact it's April...it's MID-April!
Yeah, it snowed a few days ago here too. :-\ It's all melted now though, and rainy.

It's still not supposed to be snowing in April here! :P
I woke up Easter morning here last week.....to snow flurries :o It didn't stick, but still, sheesh.
We had that too one morning...
We hardly get any snow at all all winter, and then it comes in April. :P

Awesome, this is my 15800th post! And Merlin just asked if I was still the Number 1 poster ::)
I've got more pics from the Renaissance Festival! yay! :D
Picture 1 is my hair being braided by a woman there.
The next picture (pic 6 in name, though) is the back of my hair.
Picture 3 is of Castle Gwynn. It's a castle that's been in the process of being built for over 20 years...I want to say closer to 30. It has two towers so far, but it will have four when it's completed.
Picture 4 is of Castle Gwynn from the back. You see the two different tints of roofing? That's because the one that is the shiny copper roof was just placed on the castle at 6 am on Friday. The other copper roof has been there for a couple of years. But we were told it took 1 1/2 years to build just the new part of the roof.
And Picture 5 is of the jousting match that we got to watch! :D
what6 kind of an event was that? I wish I could have been there too.
It's the Tennessee Renaissance Festival. They have it every weekend in May and Memorial Day :) I've been going the last three years :)
Wow! We don't have a castle. We use to have a small city (sort of they were stationary shed-like biildings) but the city tore them down to build a new library. The library is nice but now we don't have are city. :'(
Nice pics! It looks like it was a really fun event! ;D
It was! Everyone should go! And I just found out that they have theme weekends! I've always gone the last weekend in May...so I HAVE to go a different weekend next year!

I'm sorry to hear that. :-\
Not sure how often ya'll will see me around. I'm having some serious computer issues. My desktop won't start up (can't find the primary hard drive 0) and my mom's laptop that I'm borrowing will hardly go to any website. I'm lucky if it pulls up my email! And it never pulls up the forum. So I have to access it from work.
I will be taking my computer in to someone, I believe...when I have the money...
Aww :( Hope your computer miraculously recovers without you having to spend money :P
I'll diagnose (and maybe fix) your desktop for free. 8) ::) :P ;D
lol, I've had both Michael F and Jason mention some things...and everything they've mentioned, I've tried XD
Have you tried pinging it?
Go to Start, Run and type "cmd"
Then type ping tsl-game.com (or some other website) and copy and paste what it says.
Thanks Neil! I'm going to try it when I get home this afternoon! If it doesn't work, then I won't be around at all on Saturday XD Though I'll have MSN.
And I've merged this topic in with my thread since it didn't really fit in the Lost and Found thread :P
Kewl. 8) Usually if you talk to an ISP about not being able to access a website, the first thing they'll try is having you reset your modem, then try pinging the site. Then they'll try something on their end, and hopefully it'll work. :)
Well, the pinging didn't work :( How do you reset the modem?
You unplug it from the wall for a few seconds, then plug it in again.
lol, funny how easy it is. Anyone think I'm a bit illiterate when it comes to computers? :P
But, hey! I DO now know that computers have an IDE cord thingy in it :P
Posted on: September 10, 2007, 08:45:24 AM
Ok, so as ya'll know, I've been having bad computer issues. I moved into my apartment and plugged in my computer, and it gave me the message that "primary drive 0 can not be found." I thought things were loose or something, and with Michael F.'s help, I opened up my tower and checked things. During that time, I was using my mom's old laptop that hardly let me access my email...and NEVER the forum.
On Sunday night, I decided to try reformatting my desktop and after trying some things and another message coming up, I realized my hard drive was dead. I took it into Best Buy yesterday, and they installed a new hard drive (only $134! ;D). However, after loading things on my computer last night, I couldn't access the internet. So...today after work, I got on the phone with Dell. And let me tell you...the woman who helped me was AWESOME! She knew exactly what to do and took care of everything. Yeah, it took 2 hours (I only know that because my phone tells me how long I've been on the phone) but she had such charisma that we laughed the whole time we were working.
As ya'll know, I'm completely computer illiterate....and having the help of Michael, Neil, and the Dell woman was amazing. Thank you to everyone!
So, a hint...if your computer's running extremely slowly. If it makes clicking sounds when you are downloading something. If it is really loud...it's a sign the hard drive's going XD I had no clue! And I noticed when I was on the phone with my previous roommate that my computer is completely quiet now! So...YAY! :D
You got lucky with the Dell help. I've called Dell with problems before and they never are any help, I end up going to the local computer store who always fix it (but it's always expensive)
Yeah, lik I was telling Cat, my hard drive ended up dying a few days ago as well. It's not completely dead yet though, because I forgot to backup YonkMod and had to stick it back in to get it.
For me, it was giving blue screens and getting very sluggish when there weren't any other programs running. One blue screen was about a corrupt system file, so I had to re-install Windows. Then I got more blue screens, then started to get "Delayed Write Errors".
That was when I bought a new laptop hard drive & installed it. I was going to ask a repair shop to do it, but the guy said it would have cost a couple hundred bucks, and I can really just do it myself. It's not much different than installing a PC hard drive, only there's no IDE cable. It plugs in directly to the motherboard.
Anyway, now I'm just in the process of copying all the files I backed up again, and re-installing everything. There's another folder I forgot to back up, so I'll be switching back to the old hard drive again tonight. Hopefully it won't die in the mean time. :P
Wow, I didn't realize it'd been so long since my thread had been posted in. Anyway, just needing to talk something out. Today was a crazy day at work. Back in November, we had a child TOTALLY freak out about going to speech because he was afraid he would miss recess (that's what it boiled down to, but it was a long story including about six teachers and probably 8 police officers...and the kid is in 1st grade!)
Anyway, today I go to grab him for speech and he was asking for his teacher. I kept saying we'd have speech first and then he'd get to see his teacher. This happened about four times, and then I was like "if he's trying to get some attention, I'll just not answer" so I didn't...since it was the same answer each time. We had to go pick up another child from the classroom, so we did that. The boy ended up standing behind the door. At this time, I didn't realize what was going on, so I was like "oh, you were hiding from me :)!" Then he shouts out "no!" and goes across the hall. I grab his wrist and my other hand is on his back, trying to guide him down the hallway. He keeps saying no, trying to grab onto the wall and a table. Somehow he broke away from me and I had to run after him. Of course, I almost reach him, slip and fall, and I hear someone behind me ask if I'm ok. I'm not paying any attention, jump up and run. Finally we're in his classroom and one of the teachers trained in restraining kids is in there helping me. Someone had gotten his teacher and she's in there with us.
Eventually, we get him calmed down (and of course, I'm shaking because this is the first time I've had to deal with something like this), and he gets on the phone with his mom. This was actually mild compared to what happened before Thanksgiving. He ends up back in his class, and the other speech therapist looks at me and tells me to take the rest of the day off.
Oh, and the kid, after he started talking to us, said he was afraid his teacher would forget that he had speech and take the other kids out to recess while he was gone...
Anyway, the story of my day. And I thought it was going to be an uneventful one!
Wow, was recess really worth all that? ::)
This kid sounds a little too... intense. Does he have some sort of mental disorder?
More testing is about to be done, but I think it's more emotional than a mental disorder. I feel for him, I really do. I did get to talk to the mom, and being contracted into the school instead of employed by it, I felt I could say more than others could. I was very calm, but was like "well, we can't get him out of speech because then he'll realize that if he acts like this, he can get out of anything." After about ten or fifteen minutes on the phone with her, she got kinda silent. I just hope that I got through to her.
Oh... I see now. So it's more like he's some bratty kid that always gets whatever he demands from his parents. Yeah, that's tough, because some parents actually get more offended by you telling them their child is misbehaving, rather than the misbehaviour itself. They probably feel it's easier to just give in, than to deal with the temper tantrums.
Anyway, the fact that it's the second time something like this happened should hopefully make her take some sort of disciplinary action. Chasing kids around isn't exactly part of your job description. :P

Mm, I doubt that's the case. From what I know of the previous incident it's more like the kid just has really cruddy parents. And actually perhaps gets too little. It's really quite sad if you ask me. Poor kid.* :-X
*
Poor Koko too!
Maybe, but isn't there 3 recesses in a day? It's not like speech would take up all 3, so there's definitely something odd going on there for him to act that extreme.
Well I agree. Definitely extreme. :P
If it was one of my brothers, I would give him a brief lecture on the importance of saying little things such as why he wants to see his teacher before causing a tumult, maybe smack him he being a total idiot and forget about it, but that's just me. :P Also, if you ever need to restrain children, don't forget the ears. :P The school might not like it, but from personal experience of growing up with 4 little brothers I assure you it is quite the best place to grab. Any attempt to twist away hurts, making sure it isn't repeated. ;P Of course for a 1st grader that might be overkill, you can just pick them up and carry them. :P
Also I am mildly curious, where did 8 police officers get into this? Were they bored school police looking for something to do or have moderns totally lost their ability to manhandle the young? XD
You've got to always remember law suits. Thus, we can't do anything that can harm the child (grabbing by the ears could) but there is are people who are trained to restrain a child a certain way. I'd love to learn, that's for sure. As to picking up a first grader, some you might be able to. However, this child is strong. The principal is probably 5'8" or so and heavyset (probably 250 lbs at least). She was sitting down in a chair, in front of one of the office doors to try to keep him in one place (there were about six teachers and administrators in the room as well) and he literally got to the side of her and pushed the chair away from the door. That was back in November.
We've also talked to him about expressing his feelings, but the child definitely has some auditory processing issues. That's why more testing is being done, and we're going to work with him to get him to try to express himself more (why do you think we're called "speech LANGUAGE therapists?)
As to why there were so many police officers...I don't know. I understood two or three, but I don't know why so many ended up coming. But this child was definitely a danger to himself and others. This last time wasn't as full-blown as the previous time, but it still was scary.
Sounds like quite a first grader. :o I wasn't really serious about the ears, I doubt that would fly in school, though I probably didn't signal that very well. :P
Quote from: koko_99_2001 on January 11, 2008, 03:12:46 PM
But this child was definitely a danger to himself and others. This last time wasn't as full-blown as the previous time, but it still was scary.
Definitely. If his behavior never improves, could you imagine what he'd be like as a teenager, or even adolescent? Pretty spooky.
I wonder if you tried some kind of basic reasoning if it would work. Like "Hey <name>, if you run away again, <teacher name> won't let you go out for any more recesses this whole week! But, if you go with Ms. Tyson you won't miss any recesses. :)" Of course, you'd probably need approval from the school before you could say anything like that first.
But, the fact that it involved 8 police officers and so much physical force really makes me feel like there's something seriously psychologically wrong with this kid. If he's having issues expressing himself, then I don't think it's just about missing recess. It almost sounds like he's having a panic attack, from the idea of going to speech. :S
If that school has a psychologist or counsellor, I would highly recommend sending this kid to him/her. Something is not right here, and without knowing the cause of that trauma, it's scary to think what might happen next time around.

He is going to have psychological testing, so that's good. We're just hoping something definitive comes from it. Poor kid...

HI MANGO!
And yes, my little camera phone :)
I was trying to decide between painting the hall today or the guest bathroom...I think I've decided on the bathroom :P
Really depends on your mood. Bathrooms have more things to avoid, hallways are just straight painting and therefor more often, easier.
But, bathrooms are smaller than hallways, so they're less work to paint. :P
Technically, but if you saw how much trouble I went through to tape up things in the bathroom...you wouldn't think that :P That said, the bathroom is taped up and ready to be painted. I was sick yesterday, so that's all I had the energy to do XD
I hope you are feeling better.
(Hugs)
Yeah that's what I meant. It's alot more work to tape up all the things in a bathroom to paint. You hardly have to avoid things or tape them in a hallway.

Surely a state of total (tautological, yes, but how else am I to phrase it?) absolute power could only be reached by an omnipotent deity (or those claiming to be descended from one in rare cases) and they're considered "corrupt" by few. :P
lol, huh? XD

Quote from: Louisiana Night on April 03, 2008, 08:53:31 AM(I believe you are referring to a flawless omnipotent being, or at least one with no or few major flaws).
Actually, I didn't think into it in much detail. Though even with flaws, I doubt I should ever have had the notion to associate "corrupt" with them. :) Having said that, of course we're all to be referred to as their "little playthings". ;P
Actually, I think a flawed invidual could possess omnipotence, and still not be corrupted by it. If one were to abstain totally from ever using that power, and just live out their natural life and die, their omnipotence would never have affected them.
Using the power, not possessing it, is what leads to corruption. Only a being who lacks flaws of any kind could ever use unlimited power without being, or becoming, corrupt. (ie, holy)
Quoteand... Neil's little playthings?
Wait... when did yall become my 'little playthings?' ???
QuoteZeus=dirty old man=corrupt
I prefer the Norse 'gods.' They had flaws, but were noble about it.
mmmm... Our definitions differ here.
I see 'omnipotency' as the ability to do / cause /effect anything.
I would argue it doesn't necessarily encompass omniscience and / or omnipresence. A being with omnipotency could choose to 'become' omniscient, but wouldn't need to be this by default.
QuoteI can't make Jack Smith appear in Detroit unless I know who/what and where they both are).
Why would you need to know where Jack Smith is, prior to using you're omnipotency? Even then, I suppose all you'd need do is 'cause' him to appear in Detroit. Unless, you decided to move him manually.
Quoteand I would agree... except I have doubts that could be possible.
Yeah, I doubt any of us have the kind of willpower to abstain from such power. Perhaps if someone had the capability, and didn't know it, then my earlier post might have a chance to be tested...
Three cheers for random philosophy!! ;D
EDIT:
Oh, that's true. If someone who was omnipotent and omniscient wanted to will away part of his knowledge, for a time, that would be possible. Another example would be if someone was omnipotent and omnipresent, they could will away their presence from a specified locale.
Actually, without moving into religion, Christianity believes these cases occur. Example being, God is omnipresent, but has decided not to be present in any form in Hell.

QuoteWith limited knowledge comes limited power.
But you wouldn't have limited knowledge. All you'd need do is will whatever prerequisite knowledge you 'needed' to perform whatever act, and away you go.
Also, if someone has the ability to do something, even if they arn't aware of whatever, arn't they still labelled as having 'that power?'
*moves further off into the realm of abstraction* ::)
Quoteerm... but you'd eventually want to or try to do something you normally would be incapable of. Wouldn't you know then?

No need. At this point we are primarily defining words. And I believe it states that He not only isn't present there, but also that He has "put it out of His mind." Whether we decide that He could have not been one, but been the other, is entirely up to us.
But, let's take a step back from that, for now. My apologies for complicating the matter.

Assuming you were making a counter-point to my previous statement (if you were not, quoting me was certainly a poor way of communicating your thought), it was made toward earthly (limited) power. More specifically, in reference to Cat's statement of enjoying power. You can't make a counter-point by redefining the meaning behind what I say. If you do that, you can explain away anything (or add credit to anything).

It is a completely different thing from morality, honour, duty, and all things usually considered linked with a lack of corruption.

QuoteYes, if I want to make stone into gold, the changes required do not need to be known (simply willed). The problem is, for example, what if I don't know what gold IS?
How do we determine whether someone is infinitely powerful, or simply awesomely powerful?
(constraint questions, from most restrictive, to least)
1) Is it that there is something they cannot do?
2) Is it that there is something they cannot do, within a specified bracket of time?
3) Is it that there is something they refuse to do?
4) Is it that there is something they refuse to do, within a specified bracket of time?
5) Is it that there is something they will not do?
6) Is it that there is something they will not do, within a specified bracket of time?
I argue that the case of someone not possessing the knowledge of something, since they 'can' gain the knowledge of that something, and therefore do it, should the circumstance arise, would fall under (6,) should they not seek that particular knowledge.
Additionally, numbers 3-6, I believe, to not be disqualifiers for omnipotency.
Quoteone has more POTENTIAL power, the other more practical power).
/agree, and in the case of a non-omnipotent being, these two are different. For an omnipotent being who 'can' do whatever he likes at speeds that are faster than a moment, he can go from a 'potential' state, to a 'practical' state instantly. So. potential == practical in this case. There is never a time in which an omnipotent cannot do something. If knowledge is required, it can be gained so fast that it is known at the time necessary.

Oh, very well... I think that since you can't accept omnipotency immediately, than there is atleast a brief moment in time where you are vulnerable. OK. I'm so far behind in posts with this thread, I hardly know whether to continue. ((But I'm stubbon, so I'll grab some choice comments, and run with it)) ;D
First, I think I failed to be specific about the six questions I wrote. They were questions we should ask ourselves when defining omnipotency. Some of the questions are definitely not true of omnipotency. I was just trying to be thorough.
Such as "Is there something an omnipotent being cannot do?"
...No.
While, "Is there something an omnipotent being will not do?" is possibly debatable. For instance, if an omnipotent being will never turn himself into a pink carebear named 'Rosella,' does he lack that power? I'd say no, but it could be argued.
Anyway, because it's all crazy right now, I vote for a change of debate topic. We can revisit this later. Maybe someone else would like to join in on a new topic. In fact, I think the new topic is pants... I'm a jeans person, myself. 8)

Wha... this isn't the question thread!? :P

Why bother with all of this when we could just proclaim this whole forum to be an anarchy and not be bound by petty laws (... being forbidden from feeding moat monsters etc)? ;D
It's not that we're forbidden from feeding them... learn from my mistake: don't feed them because if you feed them... they may sue!

Because you want to revive that thread? :P
And someone else will be in the hot-seat! :sneaky: Being the one on trial is not much fun, let me tell you. Especially when you're innocent!

Lol. I think we're so far beyond that point now. XD
Ya well that's the problem with being behind seven pages. By the time I catch up it's old new and then I'm seven pages behind again. :-\
Same here. But I plan to remedy that. I will steal everyone's pants and in the ensuing confusion I will post 10.000 posts. 8)
As I'm wearing a dress, I will refuse to be distracted from my own goal of making several thousand posts. :P
Well... well... I will throw all the pants I stole - on you, so you'll be busy getting them off while I make my 10.000 posts :P
Oh, please. ;P By the time you get around to throwing the last pair of pants on me, I will have already crashed the forum with excessive posting. ;P
I have won pants-throwing championships you know.. :suffer:
And I can post quickly. ;P
lol, I'm gone for just three days, and chaos reigns in this thread XD Though, it does make an interesting read XD
Welcome back! XD And I think one of the posts was asking where that entire discussion could be split to... General Chat would work. :P
Nah, we can just leave it here :P Adds pages to my thread

You're being asked to answer this question and maybe others :P
Wait, why am I helping to move my case along? ::) :P
I'll let it mistrial for you then. XD
Perhaps lighting the judge's shoes afire would help?
I dunno if it'd help, but it'd be a cool prank! XD
It has been split. :P *goes to find it before retiring*
So! How was everyone's Valentine's? Mine was amazing. Why, you may ask...well, I'll tell you:
Erik proposed!
YAY! So, it's now totally official. We're getting married! And we wanted ya'll to know :D
Below is a (bad) picture of the ring. I took it on my cell phone today...the good pictures are on the camera...and I don't have my cord to upload those :P It's a marquise cut solitaire that sparkles a ton! He did a great job ;)
Details? Ok, I'll give you details!
We were eating supper at WatersEdge at Opryland. Then, there was a beautiful fountain/music/lights show right next to where we were sitting. During the middle of that, he got down on one knee. Very romantic and wonderful :) After that, we took a little boat ride through the Atrium of the hotel (the Atrium is a HUMONGOUS garden in the middle of this hotel). Then it was off to my parents house to share the news :)
WOW! Congrats!! I thought you were already married though, I guess I didn't read enough old posts. :P Anyway, that is great, and congrats!!!
Oh and, my valentines wasn't anything. It could have been good, but... well, at least it wasn't bad. ::) I just am not so good at asking poeple out.........
Wow! Congrats! :D :D :D
I'm super excited for you! ;D ;D
Congrats, Cat! XD

same here. I only send a card to someone whitout my name on it. ::)
Congratulations :) !!! All the best in this opening new chapter iof your life.
Nah, not much of a valentine. i'm rather inconspicuous so i don't believe i would ever get a card from anyone and am too shy to send one myself, unless to let my family know how i feel about them, so i just spend the day like any other day.
All in all it is a pretty nice day, too. I like to see it brings about good feelings for some people.
yeah, it is a good day, it would have been better though, but whatever... I agree night-owl, with this part:

CONGRATZ Koko! !!!

(And HUGZ Again.) :D
Congrats, Cat and Erik!!!
Thanks to all of you! I'm adding a few pictures. The first are the flowers Erik gave me on the 13th. I came home, after working 7:30-1 at my schools, and then 2-7 at Hallmark. I got home at 8, and what was waiting for me? Roses, a home cooked meal, and a candlelight dinner. I was sure he was going to propose then!
The next picture is of us on the boat at Opryland, after Erik had proposed over dinner. And the third is the best pic of the ring I have :)
Very nice!

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I just was looking through the really old posts here and found Warlock's profile
http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1126
And I thought warlock was merlin, and it said in the signature:
Married to Cat since January 14th 2006
just curious, I haven't been around since 2006, so I don't really know anything about that time on the TSL forum.
Yeah, Merlin/Warlock and I used to be together. We dated for a couple years, but we had a role-play marriage on the foum.
LOL! I saw that too.
I remember that. Your wedding was a fun one, unlike others I've been to.
Ok, so it's been almost a year since we've posted in this thread. Crazy! Where has the time gone? And so much has happened in a year!
Anyway, the newest thing in my life? Erik and I joined/rejoined WoW (he rejoined, since he was a member years ago). And, after only one day...I'm addicted! Having tons of fun!
Cool. :D My dad got me addicted years ago. Never played a druid though, how do you like it so far?
Awww, that's adorable. XD
A friend of mine is trying to get me addicted... I mean... me to play... yes... (I keep telling him that I'm too busy).::)
It's pretty fun. We're enjoying it. Erik says it's much more fun playing together than when he played it by himself years ago. Since we created our characters together, we level up at the same times.
As to being addicted, we did play most of the day yesterday, but we're going to put restrictions on ourselves during the week. :P
Yea, that's the reason I really like, I can play with my dad. Don't play much while I'm at school though, no time.
I'm afraid to try WoW. I'm one of those people that would get immediately sucked in and not able to stop.
Again, that's why Erik and I play together. It helps us stay accountable.
So, I've become a tailor and Erik's a leather worker. We almost match exactly. Aren't we so silly? :P
...Aww, that's adorable (again XD)
I actually tried to get into WoW a while ago but it just didn't hook me. It probably had something to do with the fact that I was playing mostly by myself, but I just didn't see the point of playing for the point of playing. XD It's weird because I thought I'd be horrifically addicted. :P
