On Sunday, July 30, 2006, we will be having a major event! !!! Many surprises will be revealed this day during a live realtime Q&A chat from 4-7 PM EST (GMT +05:00) held in the TSL Chamber (http://www.tsl-game.com/chat/). Along with the press, special guests and hundreds of other fans, you will get the chance to directly ask the TSL Development Team questions about the game, team, site and more! XD

We hope all of you will be able to attend, because there's a reason why we're calling this a Major Event. During the chat, we will publicly release what you've all been waiting to see for the past 4 years... The Silver Lining Public Demo! !!! !!! !!!
This is the same demo we gave to Vivendi back in November 2005, which was one of the major deciding factors that resulted in the Cease and Desist order being lifted, and our project being granted permission to continue under a fan license! It is roughly the size of Chapter 1 (the smallest chapter in the entire game) and contains a ton of things you've only seen in screenshots we've released to the Press. So, if you haven't already, cancel that dentist appointment and get your butt in Chamber (http://www.tsl-game.com/chat/) tomorrow! ;D

Also, someone at GameBoomers asked if they could test the connection beforehand. So, I have created the following link: http://www.tsl-game.com/chat/test.html You will not be able to enter the IRC channel (or any channel for that matter :P), since this is only meant to test the Java applet in your browser.
The link will be removed closer to the date, and replaced with the updated one, which will be accessible from http://www.tsl-game.com/chat/ 8)

Actually, they've already been changed. XD I just don't plan on revealing the new one anytime earlier than July 30th, 4PM EST. 8)

Actually, I double-checked. I'm 14 hours ahead, which means it starts Monday 6am my time. That's much better for me, though I'm not sure I'll be able to stay for the whole thing.

Hmm, well I based the 16 hours off what it says in your forum profile as your offset from my timezone. Anyway, if you check the link I put in the first post, it will take into account Daylight Savings and whatnot.

That means you need to upgrade your Java client. But you don't have to use that page to chat, you can also use: mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/), Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/), Gaim (http://gaim.sourceforge.net/), ChatZilla (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/rt-messaging/chatzilla/), or any IRC client. 8)
But yes, as always, I will provide a chatlog of the event shortly thereafter. :)

Hey everyone,
I've now switched from Freenode to the Deviantart IRC server, since Freenode disallows private messaging from people that don't have registered nicknames (which would really cause problems during the event).
So, the settings are now:
Server: irc.deviantart.net
Port: 6667
Channel: #tsl-game
And the Test page (http://www.tsl-game.com/chat/test.html) has now been updated to use that server and port, so please verify that the client works for you now and allow the port on your firewall (if necessary). :)

Even though everything seems to be working, I don't trust my browser's Java, so I added the server&channel in my chatzilla and when I tried to join I got this:

This is relatively relevant, but can anyone help me? Both my mIRC and the chat applet say "Software caused connection abort." This happens with every server I try. I don't want to miss this! :S
It's probably your firewall. Try disabling it and retrying. :)
If that still doesn't work and you are on a home network, switch to a different computer, or plug your network card directly to your modem. 8)

Ok. I found the source of those of you that may get that error. It's McAfee VirusScan pretending to be a firewall. ::) Here's the fix:
Open VirusScan Console.
Double click the "Access Protection" Task.
Uncheck the "Prevent IRC Communication".

I don't think anyone should have problems playing the demo. You might need the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3) but that was released in a Windows Update patch about 2 or 3 years ago (and possibly bundled with XP SP2), so I'm sure most of you have it already anyway. 8)

As eager as I am to experience a sample of all the hard work that's been put into the game so far, I'm probably more interested in seeing whether or not there'll be many reports of technical difficulties (ie. what works fine on one machine won't run on a similar machine). Perhaps I'm mistaken, but this demo release might be an even better tool than any alpha or beta testing for getting information of this kind, and dealing with it accordingly.
I hope to be there. This should be pretty exciting. :)

Definitely. :) Actually, there were a few serious memory management problems with this demo a few days ago, resulting in choppyness/audio stuttering/freezing and even crashing. This bug existed way back in November 2005 even when we gave the demo to VU, but there was no time to fix it back then. It was then solved by Petter early this year, but wasn't able to make it into the demo at first (since Petter went on vacation this month :P).
I am very pleased that one of our Script Programmers (Jeff) has applied this bugfix yesterday, just in time for the public release. And as a result, I don't believe anyone should experience any major problems, not to mention the demo feels like it has way more higher quality. XD
Anyway, we're getting off-topic. :P What I wanted to say is that the Java client was having problems with the hyphen in the IRC channel, so I've now switched it to #tslgame. Those of you entering via http://www.tsl-game.com/chat/ will have no problems, but those entering using other IRC clients will need to correct their channels. :)

As a note, I have known about this project for a couple of years (even applied for a position back in 2003). I've been lurking, keeping tabs on the project and I am extremely excited about today's event.
Sadly I am on a dialup connection so no downloading the public demo... but that's ok. I know there'll be new screenshots and whatnot.
Anyway, awesome work on this. I can't tell you how happy I am to have seen this project grow over the years.

I believe they're announcing the link to get the demo in Chamber, but that doesn't mean that they won't announce it on the forums as well. Why would the team deprive fans who couldn't make it to Chamber because of their schedules, internet connections, and such?
