Title: TSL Hits Television!
Post by: Yonkey on July 14, 2006, 10:10:35 PM
No, you're not dreaming. :P  I am proud to announce that The Silver Lining has now transcended from online and print media to TELEVISION! XD

The Silver Lining will be featured on G4 - Electric Playground (http://www.g4tv.com/electricplayground/) on Monday, July 17, 2006 at 1:30pm EST and PST (GMT -05:00 and -08:00) and then replayed on the Space (http://www.spacecast.com/shows_ElectricPlayground.aspx) television network between July 22 and 30th, 2006.

For those that do not subscribe to these television stations, we will provide a digital video of the episode on our site soon.  Keep checking this thread and Home (http://www.tsl-game.com/) for further details.

Lastly, I would like to thank Trevor Westerlund of Electric Playground (http://www.elecplay.com) for contacting us and providing this coverage for our game.  As well, I would like to thank our team, press and all our fans out there whose hard work and support have helped us accomplish our largest PR achievement to date. :)

Sit back, relax and enjoy! 8)

I’m curious, has the interview already been done and it’s just waiting to air and who is going to be on it?

Most likely it's already been done, since I don't think they work on weekends.  But I actually have no idea what is going to be covered exactly because I haven't seen it yet.  I know for sure they will be showing the TSL Trailer (http://www.postudios.com/archivedTSL/media/promos/trailer/), but they promised me they'll be making good use of all the other cool stuff I sent them. 8)

I have tears in my eyes. XD

I'm not really sure why, but this could be because of it. :P

And are you SURE I'm not dreaming? XD

Wait....No... TSL'S GOING TO BE ON TV!!! :D :D :D :D :D I'd better have that channel, or we're paying way too much for digital cable. :P

Hahah! XD

I'm not sure but I think the Space network may be a Canada-only station, but G4 is definitely American. 8)

LOL!  Well it's not exactly "live", since their footage will be based on pre-recorded video, but still it'll be nice to watch. XD

LOL What a statement. ;P  But yes, it's very rare for even commercial games to get TV coverage, let alone non-commercial indie ones like ours.  This is definitely a great opportunity for our project, and G4 is probably the best (and only, I believe?) station dedicated purely for video games. :)

Probably because we're not big enough to be mentioned among the top headlines yet. :P

That was weird.

They called TSL "An official new chapter, King's Quest 9: The Silver Lining." Doesn't that make it seem like Vivendi is doing it? :S And are they allowed to call you "King's Quest 9" anymore?

Post by: Shades2585 on July 17, 2006, 01:01:27 PM
I don’t see the link for the new show yet at G4. How much time was dedicated to TSL? (Doubt I’ll be able to watch it at work anyway.)

From what I heard about it... no, it's not worth it.
Title: Re: TSL Hits Television!
Post by: Piotyr on July 17, 2006, 01:32:46 PM
Well, 1-2 minutes is better than no minutes.

Except they apparently didn't know the title of the game.
Title: Re: TSL Hits Television!
Post by: Yonkey on July 17, 2006, 01:36:13 PM
It seems they didn't use anything I gave them, nor did they even do enough research about our game to even know its title.

Very disappointing.

Like I always say, TechTV was kind of 'meh' but OK.  G4 was 'teh suck' and not good at all.  G4-Tech (or whatever they call it) is 'teh ultimate suck' and could never possibly be good.  :P

PS: X-Play is overrated.

This was actually Electric Playground, but I know what you mean.

Post by: telepathic_cat on July 17, 2006, 01:43:48 PM
Yeah, I know.  But still, after the merger, G4 basically took any good TechTV stuff off the air, replaced it with stuff like 'The Man Show' and car shows, and re-casted shows like 'Attack Of The Show'.

Title: Re: TSL Hits Television!

Let down doesn't even begin to describe it.  But I will see if I can find out what happened first.
Title: Re: TSL Hits Television!

On the bright side, this whole thing has led me to re-listen to/stare at/watch every bit of TSL media I have. Fangirl moments rule. XD
Title: Re: TSL Hits Television!
Post by: Yonkey on July 17, 2006, 09:46:02 PM
Ok.  I sort of found out what happened.  They filmed that stuff prior to contacting us for permission to use it, and then didn't have enough time to add any of the stuff I sent them.  The host assumed we were the official ninth in the series, because we have official permission from VU.  It's an honest mistake, but one that wouldn't have happened, had they went through the stuff I sent them. :P

Anyway, Trevor has offered to do a full segment on TSL, and even have the host come up to interview me personally once he's in the area. XD  But, we'll see.  In any case, I won't promote that in advance, unless I get to see the final footage before it airs.  8)

Well good job getting on the air at least.  Hope to hear more about it.

I wouldn't have known about this unless I didn't read the GameInformer mag when it was featured with the KQ's AGDInteractive made.

Yes, I think at this point getting your name in front of the public is the important thing.  Even if that name happened to be wrong, interested people will still Google Kings Quest IX and that will still take them to this site.  Of course, I'm not a advertising person, but from this non-professionals standpoint it seems that disappointing as it doubtless is, it makes little difference to the purpose if they called it TSL or KQIX.  :)
Title: Re: TSL Hits Television!
Post by: Yonkey on July 18, 2006, 09:09:58 AM
Yeah, I agree with that to some extent, but still had I known what the footage would be, I wouldn't have promoted it this largely.  In any case, I'm not going to make that same mistake twice. :P

If they do in fact make a full segment on The Silver Lining, then I will in-person clarify our game's actual title, among other things. :P

I have no clue, I haven't seen it yet myself. :P

Anyway, he said the host is currently overseas filming footage for the next Fifa, but he'll contact me for an interview once he's done that. :)  And they said they're more interested in fan games like us, than companies who shell out 60+ games per month. XD

Yeah. :)  I would actually be happy if it were even just an internet-only broadcast, since there are actually a bunch of regulatory restrictions with television that I had no idea about until now.

At least it got Kings quest and TSL in front of the public eye a bit more.  Interested people will still google kings quest and that will still take them here, even if they couldn't tell KQ2 from KQ2+.  I think it will serve its purpose well enough for all its errors.

LMAO! :suffer:

Well, it has to do with them requiring legal rights from Vivendi to show their products.  Apparently, any marketing shown on TV (including a URL and/or logo) is not free and in order to show something, you must pay a government body that regulates television broadcasting. ::)

News broadcasting falls under a different category than "video game and youth culture programming", which is why if we ever appear on TV again, it would most likely be on a news-related network. 8)
