Hey
I've heard TSL is going to delve into Valanice's past, and a big part of Valanice's past (well so far) is Hagatha. I was wondering if we're going to get to know more about Hagatha and also if we get to know what happend to her, seeing as Graham never deals with Hagatha in KQ2 in any way, so that means she's still alive
It seems probable. If we go into Valanice's past, one of the more obvious questions one could ask is what the heck she was doing in that tower to begin with. Assuming Hagatha put her there (I've only played KQII+ so I don't know what the original says on the subject.) she would have to be involved in the answer to that question. Thus I deduce a good chance she will be at least mentioned. Otherwise I have no idea. ???
Well according to the short story that came with King's Quest II, Hagatha was jealous of Valanice. It never specified the reasoning for that jealousy, IIRC though. But implication was because of Valanice's beauty.
But it was because of that jealousy that she whished Valanice to the tower.
"
QuoteThis is the maiden Valanice. She is from the kingdom of Kolyma, and is known for her goodness no less than her beauty. The jealous crone Hagatha whisked Valanice away to an enchanted land, and imprisoned her in a Quartz Tower guarded by a ferocious wild beast."
-KQ2 manual
Jealousy of something especially beauty is a standard fairy tale reason, to put someone in a tower.
but of course we wouldn't be THAT simple ;)
:suffer: ahhh.. it's been some time since I used it!
So your saying the mirror lied...? :p...
You can avoid telling the truth without lying. :sneaky:
From a certain POV...
Actually I meant the mirror could only have mentioned one of the reasons without boring us with a long list. I didn't really mean that the mirror manipulated its statement to deceive.
I imagine it would be very easy for TSL to delve into Valanice's and Hagatha's history because, to be honest, KQ2 was just a hodgepodge of fairy tales all rolled up into one package. I'm not trying to slam the game (it was my first KQ game), but very little story existed in KQ2 to really delve into... which gives the TSL team a great deal of leg room to work with.
Keep in mind I haven't read the Companion (I am beginning to think I'm one of the few KQ fans who hasn't read that book)... but based on the game and it's manual, there is very little to go on.
King's Quest companion version reads like a standard fairy tale story(not even Grimm Fairy Tale style). Believe me it doesn't add much more than what the manual prologue gives. But it does give more detailed story and backgrounds than the game had, as well as some explanations to some of the more obscure puzzles.

Definitely. If you haven't already, check out the Valanice (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?topic=4055.0) thread. 8)
I actually never said hagatha wasn't jealous. We didn't change that part, we just added a little more to it ;) We do explain a little more of Hagatha's past during "Eternities" I believe. It's really short but it does give you a reason to understand why Hagatha was jealous of Valanice's beauty.
I remember so little from KQ2 and I quit playing KQ2 VGA for some reason... I assume TSL delves into the past... Especially seeing as a new wallpaper says "remember the tower" I also believe that we meet young valanice... Just stating what I remember from the old pics hanging on the site somewhere... Pictures and artwork do a lot of things...
I suppose anything is possible, but besides throwing Valanice in a tower for no apparent reason, she never really did much.

The fact that there's a voice actor for the character Young Valanice is a bit of a hint too. ;)
