Hi,
I know many of you will not believe a single word, but for those who care to read this anyway, I would like to announce, that we, that is the www.LarryLives.com team, have finally recieved a semi-official confiramtion that Larry 8 is in development.
In order to guard our source's anonymity we cannot reveal much more at the moment, so you'll have to take my word on it.
For the latest news and details check out www.LarryLives.com

The Knight:
If Al Lowe isn't invovled. It's not Leisure suit Larry.
Cesar_Bittar:
hey, so if Roberta isn't involved, it's not King's Quest?
The Knight:
hey, so if Roberta isn't involved, it's not King's Quest?
Yep. JK!
Storm:
An OFFICAL Larry 8 from Sierra?
You're right, I don't believe it
doernpferde:
See, I knew you wouldn't. And unfortunately there's nothing I can do about that, before it is publicly confirmed, there's nothing I can do to persuade you, except giving you my word on it!
BTW, we have recieved a second inofficial confirmation today, but it's all the same, either you believe me (and www.LarryLives.com) or you don't.
doern
Storm:
...And it doesn't matter much either way
oldbushie:
I still have to finish the old LSL games, though the one where Larry has to program Unix into a machine is priceless.
cat team leader:
They way $ierra/Vivendi is now, they lack the talent to produce a true Larry game. They may be labelling it as a Larry game, but rest assured it will not be so. They did not manage to ruin the Larry-series yet, so let's hope this semi-official rumor turns out to be untrue. Anyway, if they do, that means there just will have to be a fanmade LSL-sequel to set things right again. nd no, I'm not going to be a part of it, I only do forum-postings.
The Knight:
I also heard Larry 8 isn't going to be in the same style if they do make it. So get ready to be Larry Laffer, running around the Land of the Lounge Lizards, with sub-atomic machine guns.
The Knight:
We'll just have to wait and see what happens. There's really nothing else we can do.

Let us just for a moment believe that there are not only idiots and dumbfarts working for VU games, and there actually might be someone interested in shipping a quality product.
That's a mighty big thing you're asking me to do. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that. However, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, as I'm doing with BS3. I will only buy it after I have read a review and/or played a demo, and I find I like it, but not sooner, and certainly not out of blind faith.
doernpferde:
So will I! And I don't want anybody here to think I would buy a game out of blind faith or even try to persuade other people to do anything like that.
The rules are simple, either you ship a quality product and it sells, or you don't. Not even VU can neglect those rules. The new Larry has to convince by quality, not by name.
Basically all we can do is wait for more news and speculate!

Jeysie:
Just to add a bit more fuel to the matter, check out what I spotted in my latest issue of Computer Games Magazine:
http://home.att.net/~miscfile/cgmpreview.jpg
What do you think? Am I reading too much into it?
Peace & Luv, Liz
doernpferde:
Now this is interesting... But what is it? Where and how did you find that and what's that supposed to mean? I mean so far it's just a jpeg!
Please tell me more!
Very exciting...
doern
Jeysie:
Well, honestly... that jpg is pretty much it. Like I said, I saw it in Computer Games Magazine. To expand further... every issue of Computer Games Magazine has a little section where they preview what's going to be covered in the next issue. And that little pic is in that section. I scanned it because I thought it sounded suspiciously like it might refer to an LSL thing and wanted to share, but I'm afraid I don't know any more about what it's supposed to mean for certain than you do. There's no more info about the matter other than the pic and the text in the pic. I guess we'll just have to keep an eye out for the CGM November 11th issue. (shrug)
Peace & Luv, Liz
doernpferde:
Well, thank you very much! I think there hardly can be any doubt about what the text is referring to. There is just this one "biggest Loser in the history of computer games".
My supposition is that on November, 11 VU is going to officially announce the new Larry game any possibly reveal some exclusive detasils. Al Lowe himself told me, he had heard of an article, that was dealing with Sierra's new Larry. Perhaps this is what he was referring to?
Though we will do our best to learn more, feel free to tell us, if you find anything "suspiucious"
thanks
doern (www.LarryLives.com)
Jeysie:
Not a problem... if they do end up having an LSL article next month, I'll be happy to scan it for anyone interested. Although I recommend giving the magazine a try yourself, if you can find it... I find it to be intelligently written, but still with a strong sense of humor, and they're more adventure-game friendly than some of the other PC gaming mags.
Peace & Luv, Liz
The Knight:
Larry is a big loser. But I can think of someone who's an even bigger loser.......
CONNOR!
JK!
I guess with just cross our fingers and wait for November 11th.

I should think so, comparing Connor to Larry, how dare you!
The Knight:
Connor is a bigger loser than Larry. More people like Larry than Connor. I wonder how many times Connor could score with women? A lot less than Larry for sure.
doernpferde:
Connor may be the greater loser, but only because he's so bad at it, while Larry is the king of losers and masters his job with brilliance!!!
Long live Larry!!!

True. At least Larry is the pro at it. It would be nice if Sierra realized that there is an adventure fan base out there.
doernpferde:
sorry to interrupt your vivid discussion. just wanted to announce that we have gained access to the cover image of the december issue of the Computer game Magazine. It shows Larry and really nice girls in a college environment and it looks seems fun!!! We may hope that Vivendi is more or less being true to adventure games after all, though we don't know any details yet. Check out the detailed description on www.LarryLives.com .
doern
Yonkey:
lol, College girls! Larry's so old too!!
From the cover, it looks like it will be cartoony (as opposed to 3D which was what Al Lowe was going for at the time). As long as it's a slight improvement over LSL7's graphics, I'm happy.

w00T! I was right! I love being right about stuff.
Peace & Luv, Liz
The Knight:
Well then. It seems Sierra is making Larry 8. Let's just hope they do it right(NO PUN INTENDED! ).
doernpferde:
I know that it is generally considered a sin to say this, but I must admit that I am seriously intrigued by the college scenario and I think Sierra actually did a good job there. We can say nothing about the game itself yet, but I sure like the setting!!
doern
The Knight:
The setting is only a minor bit. The humor is the major beef of the game. I hope I won't have to ask, where's the beef?
doernpferde:
Hi everyone,
A trustworthy hint has reached us today, that Larry is going to be publically announced tomorrow. Sierra has adopted www.leisuresuitlarry.com already!
Be ready and keep checking Sierra's announcemnet page or just use the link on www.LarryLives.com.
doern
oldbushie:
Make that address http://www.leisuresuitlarry.com/ instead... you were missing an r.
edit: Messed up the tags...
I KNEW somehow they'll find a way to basterdize it :o
Then maybe they should have said it's Larry Laffer himself and call the game LSL0 :P
Yeah, would be nicer. But then, maybe Larry the original has always been 2d, and somehow his nephew got born into a 3d world... ;)
Either that, or Larry II might be less of a deadbeat than his uncle for all we know...
Quote from: The Knight on October 29, 2003, 10:24:11 AMLarry Laffer could always make a cameo in the game.
You mean like 'Zirkon Jim Laffer' in FPFP? ;D
I found a trailer :O
Larry Trailer (http://www.vugames.com/video_player.do?url=http://ftp.vugames.com/sierra/leisuresuitlarry-mcl/videos/lsl_announcement_trailer_384k.wmv&mimeType=video/x-ms-wmv&height=286&width=320)
I erm... Don't really have much of an opinion, so I'll just back out quietly. They're releasing it on the GameCube...
EDIT (by Yonkey): Fixed URL ;D
Larry on GameCube? with action & fighting? :o
I'm not a big Larry fan myself, but I hope this wouldn't be another MOE :(
btw - can you fix the above link?
Can't help but think what rating it's going to get, by watching that trailer.
BTW, Storm, I don't think there's going to be much fighting.
Besides, the attached image is supposed to be a screenshot from LSL8, but I see a strong resemblance to a scene in LSL6.
Sorry for the small size, JustAdventure didn't have it any larger. :-[
The press release sure does not make me want to go and buy it strange away when it's released (if it gets released), not even if Al gets hired on the project. Why? Well, there's not much left he can still alter can he? The story's probably all done, so my current take on LSL8 does not look too good/positive. :-\
I don't know about the resemblance, but was LSL6 3D as well? :-\
What's really strange about that screenshot is that all the girls in the showers are wearing towels :P
There is something in the trailer that looks like fighting. What else do you do on GameCube? ???
Um... there are adventures, puzzles, and racing games for the Gamecube! Not just fighting games. Though admittedly adventures for the gamecube are very few and far between. And a lot of them end up having action thrown in.
Quote from: Storm on November 01, 2003, 03:37:43 PMI don't know about the resemblance, but was LSL6 3D as well? :-\
Didn't you know
all LSL games were 3D? You could walk left, right, and back and forth, and you could climb up. That makes 3 dimension, AFAIK. :D
Maybe they were not as 3D as L8 (is Lovage wearing a Leisure Suit?) is going to be, but there were three dimensions nonetheless.
There were some annoying arcade sequences in lsl3 and no one seems to remember them :P

Hee. Reminds me of my SQ4 disk box, which is labelled "A 3-D Animated Adventure!" <G>

I've got a very bad memory, so that is a normal behaviour for me, especially if it did not annoy me that much. Do you mean the log-sequence?
I never had troubles with that game, the only kinda anoying part was the super long 15-minute dance you have to endure sometime in the middle.
- Larry 8 will be released for PS2 and xBox
- There will be NO fighting. There will be many arcade subgames, which can be skipped, although this means that you don't get to see the "reward"!
- There's still a year to go. I must admit that I don't know what developers do in the last year of development but they must be doing something so perhaps there will be something left for Al to do...
- The screenshot really shows a scene from Larry 6 (it's when you look through the whole in the men's shower. This is one of the insider-jokes the developers promised to include.
- Larry Laffer will have at least one cameo as a talking photograph on a door. However there is a screenshot that indicates that he will appear more often.
- Lefty's bar will be accessable in 3D (you know, form LSL1)
- LSL 8will feature a masturbating monkey
- The dialogues will be very ... unusual. The developers started with the premise that branched dialogue sucks and they have created an entirely new system. I didn't quite figure out how it works yet, but let's hope it doesn't suck even more!
doern
Ugh... a masturbating monkey... :P
Definitely too much information ::)
Just wanted to remind everybody that the CGM article is out at last. Don't miss it and find out all there is to know about the monkey!!
doern
My CGM issue still hasn't come in the mail yet! :P :P
Peace & Luv, Liz
a masturbating monkey.... THIS IS A CONSPIRATION!!!! I bet my ass it's one of the killer monkeys!!!!
AGHHH
Maybe they should call this game SoE
Larry 8: Suit of Eternity
What is it with Sierra bastardizing 8th games in a seriesl?
:)
Quote from: doernpferde on November 08, 2003, 05:29:05 AM- Larry 8 will be released for PS2 and xBox
In which case, I won't have to feel bad about not buying LSL8, because it won't be available for my 'platform' anyway. Not that I intend to buy it since I've read Lovage isn't once wearing a Leisure Suit, so he can't be called LSL.

Al working on the LSL8-project at this stage? I don't think so!
I've recently leafed through my univ. book and happened to find out what "Magna Cum Laude" means... is it supposed to be some sort of a pun as well, or is it just a title (like "Mask or Eternity")? :-\
http://www.bartleby.com/61/74/M0027400.html
I guess it's when you graduate with high honours (a high grade point average), but I think they chose it because it innocently contains the word "cum". ::)
Ahh, that's just goes to show what a dirty mind YOU have ;)
Decided to ressurect this thread...because Leisure Suit Larry is awesome, the funniest game(s) ever.
HAHAHA! I forgot I even said that! <3
I wonder if LSL8 will live up to the legacy of comedy that the series had... ::)
probaly be a bit different cos u now play his nephew :-\, i think XD
