Title: TSL DVD Cover
Post by: Shades2585 on August 03, 2006, 08:00:22 PM
Ironically I almost used the picture for the demo for the cover, and given about twenty minutes I probably still could, but I decided not too because the back cover mentions all three parts not just the first and I felt the present cover represented all three the best.

Ok folks now that I’m back I’d like to hear your critique on the cover I have some ideas for some more minor tweaks in the future.

Hehe, well I've heard a lot of people think that your work was the official DVD cover.  That's how professional it looked, and I thought the same as soon as I received your present. ;D  Of course, I didn't want to spoil anything (which is why I never replied to any of your attempts at getting my feedback :P).

And now that it's public here are my thoughts.  How would you design:

The DVD sticker? :P
The manual cover and/or inside flap? ;D
The hintbook? XD

I can back that up. I've even had one person who saw it think that maybe it was evidence that Vivendi was going to sell the game commercially.

Was this person Cesar?  Because he never saw this gift or the other one, and actually thought I announced a release date or something! :suffer:

When your work starts getting mistaken for mine, you know you've done well. 8)  I'm not trying to sound cocky or anything, I just have high quality standards with whatever work I do. :)

Whoa.  First, the professional look and now people are already nagging him about the release date! ;D

All he needs is a pocket full of :suffer:'s and he's all set! :P

Thanks Yonkey.
A lot of credit goes to the designers of the web site which I believe are Yonkey and Say most of the components came from this site so this cover is as much a tribute to their work as it is the rest of the TSL team and the fans.

That's funny! Somebody obvious didn't read the caption on the home page.
I have seen that before with a Wing Commander DVD case a fan made but it was actually published on magazine cover as being the real thing. LOL

Mummmm? I haven’t had much time to think about the CD label yet but I think I would start with the cover you have for the demo right now I think it represents “Shadows” the best from all the pictures I’ve seen. I would create separate CD labels for each part and then come out with a DVD label when it’s all done.

As to the manual I have already made a template that fits in a DVD case for a previous project and I do have some basic ideas of how I would design it. I would do my best to mimic the basic design from the precious manuals with a little extra flair but I’d need to discuss it in more depth to see.

I don’t have any KQ hint books so I don’t have much to pull from on that. One of these days I plan to buy it, it sounds like an interesting read.

LMAF No Yonkey the :suffer: will always be your trademark and I would never presume to use it in your place. Anybody who asks thought I'll happily send them in your direction.  ;D

We would still love to see them! :)  If you decide to make any of them, be sure to post them in a thread in the Fan Art Gallery! ;D

Thanks Say you’re an  As I mentioned before a lot of credit goes to you and Yankey for creating the web site. I use a lot of the work you did to create the cover. (90% came from the web site.) I wouldn’t have even thought of the layout if the new site hadn’t come out.

I wouldn’t mind working on the manual but I’ll need some inside help to do that for some obvious reasons.

I will look at making a CD label though.

So much for the criticism (LOL) but the warm fuzzy feeling you all are giving me feels good. ;] I’m contemplating ideas for the CD label right now. When I start fleshing out ideas ??? for the manual Say I’ll contact you, thanks for the PM. I will up date the Cover’s system information section as we get more info. I hope somebody has been tracking it so far with the demo now released.

Psst! Say and Yonkey I have tomorrow off so I'd appreciate what criticism you two can give me on the new project.

Also on a separate note, being a Fan game can TSL be registered and tested for an ESRB rating? Something to look into possibly but if you can and should they give you a high resolution logo for the product let me know so I can up date the cover ok?

I have some stuff I'd like to discuss with you, do you get online over msn? Ill try to catch you later or email you further on once I get a chance! :)

Regarding the ESRB ratings, NVIDIA logos and whatnot, don't put those on there for now.  I think you need certain licensing/permission/certification to use those logos.  The only ones we're authorized to use are our own, Garage Games and VU's. 8)

He he If you'll notice Yonkey That's not a real ESRB I have on there. The original version you have is but the final one isn't and I did take it off for that reason. That why I mentioned if you could get it ESRB rated let me know and I'll change it.

I don't know what Phenox has rated TSL but a took a guess. If I'm wrong let me know what it is and I'll change it.

I'm not sure either.  It's probably E or E10, but T sounds like a safe bet. :)

I knew TSL was supposed to be “Darker” and thus I presumed more mature which is why I chose Teen in the first place.

Yeah, but most games rated Teen are due to the violence and adult content.  Our game is definitely not like that. XD
