Title: Modding the demo
Post by: TribeHasSpoken on August 13, 2006, 06:23:29 PM
I thought it would be fun to ask everyone how they'd modify the demo if they had the ability. As an example, I'll tell you my own.

Currently, when you click on the dresser in Graham and Valanice's room, the following exchange takes place:

NARRATOR: Valanice's clothes occupy most of it
GRAHAM: That says a lot about my fashion style
NARRATOR: Please note, dear player, that I didn't say that myself

Funny, yes? Still, anyone who's read five or more posts of mine knows what I think would be funnier when you click on it...

MUFFLED CEDRIC VOICE: Help! Graham, please, let me out! You can't do this to me!

LOL! :suffer: I'm not sure who I feel more sorry for: Cedric, or the one that has to ready his lines. ;-D

X:\Program Files\The Silver Lining Demo RC1\kq9\data\sound\IoC\GrahamBedroom (Where X is the letter of your hard drive)
Actually, if you use an installer where you can define the path, you won't need to tell people this. :P  What I use is the self-extractor in WinRAR, where it auto detects people's Program Files location for you, so all you need to specify is from The Silver Lining Demo RC1 onwards.

The problem is that I'm using an old version of WinRAR that doesn't let you set the path for self-executables (they'll only extract to the folder that the .exe is in). I'll upgrade and try your suggestion.

WinZip has a self-extractor too, but I've never used it before. :P

XD  I'll check it out later.  Which files did you modify (just so I know which to backup)? :)

NARRATOR_1_IoC_grahamroom_008.ogg, NARRATOR_1_IoC_grahamroom_007.ogg and GRAHAM_1_IoC_grahamroom_001.ogg. I couldn't figure out how to modify the subtitles, or I would have done that too.

It's a bit tricky, but just open up kq9/server/scripts/scenes/IoC/GrahamBedroom/GrahamBedroom.con in notepad and search for the text.  Just don't mess with any of the numbers or you'll screw something up. XD

Okay, I've updated the mod to include new subtitles. Obviously you'll have to back up that file too.

I'm still waiting for the BIG bird in the tree (in the courtyard) to be Cedric instead of Sing Sing!
