Title: Sierra Has A President
Post by: TheReturnofDMD on September 09, 2006, 09:58:33 AM
Announcement (http://www.sierra.com/en/home/news/product_news/090706_-_double_fine.html)

Vivendi Games today announced that it has secured the rights to publish the next title from the critically acclaimed Double Fine Productions. The as yet unnamed title is a brand new creation and will be published by Vivendi Games' Sierra Entertainment label.

"The Sierra team has been awesome to work with," said Tim Schafer, president and CEO of Double Fine Productions. "Everyone we've met brings experience from a small developer background, so they know where we're coming from and what we have to do to make a great game. Combine a developer-friendly attitude, support for innovation, major-publisher status with a worldwide scope and you have a perfect match for Double Fine."

"Double Fine's track record for producing innovative, original and fun titles is second to none, and we're looking forward to bringing amazing games to market together," said Martin Tremblay, president, Worldwide Studios for Sierra Entertainment. "Tim Schafer and team bring an intense passion to developing games and the Sierra team also infuses great fervor into our own creative processes. Not only does this relationship reiterate Sierra's commitment to work with and support the best talent in the industry, but teaming with Double Fine signals the emphasis we put on producing a cutting edge, high quality product."

Didn't Martin Tremblay have some some kind of lawsuits against him from ubisoft or something.

Well, they (Ubi-Soft) said he had violated a non-competitive clause by becoming employed by Sierra.

In other news, I think this kind of confirms that Sierra is Vivendi, and that perhaps Vivendi is going to mold into Sierra the same way that Infocom is Atari. I mean, VG doesn't even have a website anymore...VG's ''website'' is Sierra's site. I think we're seeing a slow changeover, from Vivendi transforming itself into Sierra.
However, on Sierra's corporate page, it has info only about VG, and yet on the next part, it's about "Sierra Development studios" and on their support page they  have the main Sierra support and "Vivendi Games Legacy" support.
So, I think that Vivendi is beginning to slowly phaze out the "VG" name and replace with Sierra...or the opposite could be happening, and VG is beginning to phaze out the Sierra name. Though they have no reason to, since Sierra has been bringing them good money.

I don't know about you guys, but I think it's pretty exciting that Vivendi Games is changing back to Sierra.  I've seen their investor portfolio and it looks like their division goals are just as promising as their evolution. 8)

As long as Sierra has good intentions besides greed and milking products to their death, I'm happy! And it also means the beginning of a new era! I'm excited! W00T!
