Title: TSL CD/DVD Label Feedback
Post by: Shades2585 on September 09, 2006, 09:47:00 PM
I'd like to hear your feedback folks: Thought, ideas, likes, dislikes.

I know the resolution is low but it had to be to keep the file size this small. It is actually much higher. ;D

Thanks Yonkey! ;D What about the rest of you? ??? I'd like to here your input as well so I can know if it's time to close this project or if more work needs to be done.

Thanks

I love it, except for one thing. I suspect I'll be in the minority on this, but I think it should include the actual name "The Silver Lining" in addition to the TSL logo.

Thank you Tribe. I can do that. What does everybody else think. Should it be there or not and what other ideas do you all  have?

I'm doing this for all of you so speak up.

Very nice! I agree with Tribe the actual name should be included but I'm not sure where it should be placed. :-\

That's correct.

If more people want "The Silver Lining" on there I'll do it. Just have to figure out where to put it as Rosella said. Where would you propose I place it if I did?

Can you put it under the TSL logo? Anyway, I think it looks great :)

Ok, what I might be able to do is: In the place where "Part 1: Shadows" is place "The Silver Lining". On the bottom on the left side of Pandora's Box place "Part 1:" and on the right side of Pandora's Box place "Shadows".

It might work.

Yeah it might not work out too well. Depending on what it looks like, it may be better off the way it is now.

Just having fun with you Yonkey. ;D

So it seems like the new first one is a go. Any other suggestions?

When this is finished I'll send it to Yonkey if he doesn't mind posting it with the cover.

You made it to scale and everything already?  I remember you saying you had some problems before with that. ???

???
I don't understand. The label was to scale when I first sent it to you. I haven't test printed it so I'm presuming the template I'm using it correct. The DVD's template was incorrect but I fixed that by the final entry.

Shades!

After so long so much going on I can just sit down and stare at your awesome art for hours :)

I like the first one the only thing I am not sure about is the TSL logo position, It looks conveniently placed with the art but the problem is that it can't be the same size as the POS one, it should actually be sort of like 60% TSL logo and 30% or even 20% POS logo (the POS logo looks perfect where it is and the size it is) But about the TSL logo, I'm not sure  :-\, the rest looks very well, although I would change Shadows font down a little bit and maybe consider using another color? either way try to bring it down a little bit first :P

[/end of GD rant] :P

About the print issues, I'm not so sure what DPI it should be in for you to able to print it out for CD? not sure if it really should be 300 dpi just like the cover?, I shall ask a print designer about that (ShinyKnight, my fiance is. I will force him to sit down and give you his thoughts on the matter as well once he gets home!)

And so sorry for the delay!

Great feedback Say,
*I'm working on it as I write this.*

1)   I have now made "Part One: Shadows" darker the kept "The Silver lining" bright.
2)   TSL logo I agree it would look good bigger but then where do I place it. It's such a nice picture (Great job to whoever made it.) and there's so much going on that I don't want to cover too much up.

Ideas (but I think their bad.)
1)   I could turn the TSL logo on its side and place it on the left and put the ESRB on the right (I think it would look tacky.)
2)   I could place the TSL logo where "The Silver Lining" is and turn "The Silver Lining" vertical and lace it in the black on the right and do the same with Shadows on the left.

(I don't like either of these ideas but I'm trying to think of options.)

What do you all think?

Hrmm, actually maybe you could cover up most of Shadrack anyhow because the positioning of everything is excellent the only thing that sort of looks out of place is just the size. Either way the most eye catching thing is certainly the eyes, so... :P

How about this?
Title: Re: TSL CD/DVD Label Feedback
Post by: Say on September 15, 2006, 05:29:09 PM
It is too close to the border, remember that you have to leave some more background/black on the edge because once you remove it from the sticker you are not supposed to have "whites" around the printed image.

*kicks Michael to come and post so he can explain better* :P

Let's do something, send me the file and there is one file I think I need to send you (the logo), either way I can just merge it into your file as I send it back. (Hope that makes sense! :P)

For now, I must run otherwise Bankston is going to kick meh because he is waiting for me! hahaha *runs*

A few random tidbits...

What resolution is the source file at? I'm guessing you've worked with printed materials before, so printing a label at 150DPI (magazine res) sized from a 300/600 DPI original shouldn't be a problem.

Also, make sure you take bleed into account, of course. Depending on how they're printed, you could run into small issues with content that's too near the edge in either direction; it sucks to ruin a perfectly good label because something important gets accidentally cut off.  (Even with the sticker-type labels you print at home, there's the problem with printers that aren't really designed for them, and tend to print off-center, etc...)

Other than that, it looks like a great piece of work... Keep it up! ;D

Ok I'll send it to you.

SK,
I'm using 300dpi. Yes I know about the bleed but I want to keep the logo big but not too big so that it cover his eyes, I think is face should be seen. I use a color laser at work so bleed has never been a problem but this is for the fans so I'm trying to keep that in mind.

It's going out to you shortly Say and having the logo would defiantly help me and any original material so that I'm not using and lower res web pics.
