Title: 98SE side down from the Internet
Post by: dew7 on September 23, 2006, 04:17:58 AM
The 98SE side of my computer can no longer access the Internet.  I have posted in the Microsoft 98 general newsgroup for help but I figured I could post here as well for some ideas.  I can still connect fine to the Internet through Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista RC1.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions and there are no current conflicts in the 98SE Device Manager.  It is really weird because it all started out in 98SE side with not being able to access one government website.

Heh yeah.  I'm not sure how it works with 98SE, but you can click on "Repair" in XP and it basically does a release & renew in one. :)

Sometimes that doesn't even work, and you have to physically unplug and replug in your router or cable/DSL modem. ::)

When that doesn't work either, you need to call the ISP and make them aware of the issue. 8)

In 98SE, open the run box and type in the command winipcfg.  This will bring up a control box where you can release and renew your IP address.  I had to have help on this issue since 98SE had not had Internet problems for a long time.   All seems okay now and thanks for the information.
