My very first one was, of course,  KQ1.
Back then I didn't know much english, and the game crashed didn't wouldn't work after a while, so I couldn't finish it back then - I only got to finish it when I got the KQ collection years later   :P

My first was KQ5, and then I played 1-4 since I liked 5 so much. ;D Then I got 6, 7, and the nameless one.

My first KQ was KQ3.  I played that and liked it so much, I talked my father into getting me a PC powerful enough to play KQ4 (this is going back a ways, as you can tell).  I even went out and bought a sound card (Creative Game Blaster - the forefather of the Sound Blaster) so I could hear the music in the game (I couldn't afford the Roland MT32).  To this day, I have a special affinity to that game.  Maybe because it was the first KQ I ever played with full music, I don't know.  But I loved it.

When I decided to buy a KQ-game, the KQ 1-6 Collection was already available, so I bought that. Naturally, I would play KQ1 first, then go on with KQ2, and end at KQ6, all in perfect chronological order. Afterwards, I got KQ7 seperate.

Yeah, I remember that bridge... took me a while to figure out that you had to keep the soles of his shoes on the pixels of the bridge at all times or he slips off. :P

My first KQ was the very first edition on an acient tandy when I was five. Those were the days of zork, KQ, Gold rush, Laura Bow, Space quest, Kyrandia and all the other great Sierra/westwood/Lucas arts games. Shame they dont make them like that anymore, but hopefully KQ9 will restore my faith :D

Oh yeah and seeing as how we've gone onto console games, anyone getting MarioKart:Double Dash!!? I've ordered mine from the U.S. seeing as I've got an import cube but this time around its out in the UK before the U.S. !!! Usually theres at least a 2 or 3 month gap between console releases. Ah well that'll teach me to be impatient.

Mario Party 5 is fun, I played that recently. Looking forward to reading this article!

My first KQ game was King's Quest 4, then 3, then the collection of 1-6 when we got a newer computer, and then 7.

First Sierra game was The Black Cauldron:) ANd I also played Donald Duck's PLayground and SPace Quest 2 before King's Quest. When we got out first computer, a friend of my dad's loaned us some games to play which eventually just kind of became ours, and TBC was among them. This was great for two reasons - one, I then read and still read The Chronicles of Prydain, and two, my first interests in games, adventures and game making came to be.

We had an Atari...I remember pitfall mostly. And Q-bert and some Strawberry Shortcake game.

The first KQ I ever played was KQ6. The first PC game I ever played was either SQ5 or Inherit te Earth, closely followed by KQ6. Altogether, I have played KQs5,6,7, and yes, it's true, KQ: Mask of Eternity! I thought the game stunk, but I bought because, hey, it was King's Quest. But I learned then that the reviews in a game magazine, screenshots on a box, and the title of a classic adventure game series slapped onto a 1st-person shooter set in Daventry can be decieving. Oh yeah, and I'm sorry if my spelling isn't up to par.

I'm in no hurry to leave the "MOE Hate Club"  ;D   :P I felt the only thing REALLY good thing was the end-credits music. The hack-and-slash style just wasn't meant for KQ. The whole, "enter land/level, kill monsters, hunt for keys and other useful items, beat the 'Boss' of the level, head to next land/level" thing is meant for The Legend of Zelda game series, not King's Quest. I have no objection to Connor being in KQ IX, though. If you do get to play as him, I'll be sure to get every single game-over message and scene on a bitmap file!   ;)

My first was KQV about 10 years ago. My mom had just gotten a computer (it wasn't our first computer, just our first computer that had more than 2 colors), and we wanted to get games for it, so we headed out to Office Max. There was a whole rack of games and stuff. I picked out KQV because it had a pretty picture on the front ^_^

Then I got KQVI in a pack of a bunch of other Sierra games, but KQVI was the only one in there worth playing. And then after that, I was just absolutly hooked. 10 years later, I still am.  I have had many obsessions (Sailor Moon, Buffy, Tenchi...) but Kings Quest has been around the longest for me.

I'm not sure what my first KQ was...my sisters had 1, 4, and 5. It was one of those. Mixed up mothergoose was the first I played, though. That game was so fun.

My first was KQ3.  I suppose, storywise, if one did not get introduced to the series right from KQ1, KQ3 is a second best, as you know as much about Daventry and the royal family as Alex (er, Gwydion) does to begin with - that is to say, nothing.  ;D

Don't you mean the brick on the Isle of the Beast?
I thought you couldn't enter the catacombs without it... Doesn't Alex tell them he's not ready to go in if you're missing any of the items needed there? if not, this should go in the "dead-ends" thread  ;)

Koko -
You don't really need that elf in KQ1 to complete the game ;)
About KQ5 in XP - I never tried it myself, but I heard you should use a program like Dosbox or VDMSound to run it  :-\

Actually, that only happens the first time you arrive without the necessary items. If you "get yourself noticed" a second time, you get tossed in the catacombs even if you still don't have all the necessary items.

Jason, just wondering if you know that Sierra came out with two KQ1's...the original, original, and then the enhanced original.  Then later, Tierra made their enhanced original.  I think what he's talking about is Sierra's enhanced one...am I right or wrong on that one?

My first KQ was KQ1 -and- 2...  Back when I was little.  But we got rid of them...  Well, my mum made my brother delete them due to something that Yonkey knows, and it's really really dumb, lol.

But yeah.  The enhanced KQ1 annoyed me.  I was like

My first Kings Quest was KQ2.  It was way back when I lived in Germany.  They had a computer section tucked away in the Canadian Military General Store on the Kaserne.  Anyway, I played a bit on one of the computers there.

I couldn't make it out of the damned house I started in...and if I did, I couldn't make it off the mountain.  I dunno...I didn't get to play that much.

(I also got to play some Liesure Suit Larry 3...a smart friend of mine knew most of the answers to the quiz at the beginning, so we got to see some animated 2D boobies.) :D

Okay...got a little sidetracked...boobies...*ahem*

Anyway, after Germany, I frigged around with KQ1 and I never figured that game out.  I don't know why...maybe I'm just a putz.  Then somewhere along the way, I got my grubby mits on KQ5.  I played that throughout and finished it.  (with no thanks to that annoying owl!)

So, really...I haven't been really "INTO" the KQ series...but my interests have been rekindled in all those old adventure/quest games by Say and the work seen completed by this team.

I want all the LSL games, all the SQ games (God bless ye, Roger Wilco!), PQ's 1-3, and all the KQ games.  I need to see if the games are still smarter than me. :D

The first time I played KQ3, my English sucked as well... I had just started learning English a year or two before. I had this notebook where I wrote all the game words, like "open", "look" and "nightshade juice" :P
I did manage to get off the mountain, but not to finish the game - mostly due to my poor english and the fact that I didn't have the spellbook manual  :P

However, I did find out how to use the debug mode and get all the items... so I think I did manage to defeat the wizard at some point ;]

My first KQ games was the KQ1 remake. I must have been 6 or 7 when I played it, so naturally I was terrible
(if only I had given some attention to fairy tales instead of playing Wolfenstein 3D.) All I ever did was find the pouch, give it to the troll, never quess the gnome's name, and try to get passed the giant. But I loved it. In fact, my second grade teacher assigned a creative story about a giant-bet you can't guess what game I based the story on. ;-D Most kids could barely write a page, but I wrote 10 pages of pure introduction before my teacher made me move on...It was a couple years before I played another KQ game, but I visited a relative who owned KQ6. I could not sleep at night till I got my own copy of the game; I wanted to be Alexander when I grew up. KQ6 was the first KQ game I completed. From then until now I've played just about every Sierra adventure game. Today, it's sad to see Sierra move away from its roots.  :-\

I never played MoE, but I hate it.
I haven't played KQ7, but it doesn't look *too* bad.
I really like KQ6.  Sure, some things could have been done better, but mostly, it was superb.
KQ5 was mediocre.  A lot of it could have been done better, but it was still a really good game.
KQ4 was awesome except for that troll.  I wanted a way to kill that troll!!
KQ3 was always my favorite until that KQ3+ thread came along and now it's gone all the way done to sub-mediocre.
KQ2 was my *least* favorite.  It had no plot!!!
KQ1 I liked, it ranks up there with KQ5.

Well, my brother had the demo of MoE for a little while.  And I watched him play it a little bit...so I'm not *totally* clueless.
My brother did say the swamp witch looked cool, though.  I only ever saw him with those carnivorous plants and those ogres.  It seemed like such a waste, there were no puzzles at all!  Seriously, there ought to have been enough in it that I could have seen ONE!

??? I dont know if it was KQ1 or KQ2 but my PC at the time was a 286 with 4 mg ram. And Rosella had to clean the cottage of the 7 dwarfs (or something like that) I remember it would take her like 20 minutes to finish the job. Soon after that I went to a 386 with 16 mg ram and she could clean the cottage in like 2 minutes. I absolutely loved the KQ series of games until KQvii I hated that one is was all shoot-em and killing my teenage boys loved it though. Thank you for bringing back the series if you make them like you did before KQvii you will have a fan for life!!!

Oh, hey, that was fun! I should do that more often, I like the move-y-ness.
Yeah, you're talking about KQ4.  I always put the speed up as much as possible for that part (using the + key increased the speed and you could make her go crazy fast...I wish I could clean that fast, people could live in my house sanely because I'd actually clean it!!)
Yeah, MoE was not really a KQ as far as I'm concerned, although I've never tried it.  KQ9 will be, they keep saying, more of a TRUE KQ.  Three cheers for people who know what we want to see!  YAY! YAY! YAY!

Disliking MOE is not uncommon here ;)
The KQ9 team already stated that their game will be like the earlier King's Quest games and not like MOE, which means no shooting and killing  8)

my first KQ game was KQ6. I still remember having the BLUE (not black) covered sliding box with gold lettering and i forget how many floppies inside with instructions on how to install the game. Then a few years later I bought some kind of huge cd pack with so many games i never played. one cd that caught my eye was a plain looking cd with yellow cursive text saying King's Quest V on it...remembering KQ6 and being curious, I popped in the CD and played KQ5.

anyways...just found this site and wanted to express my support for all you guys! i also just found a similar space quest project website through this website...hope both games get released! :-)

KQ6. IIRC, it came free with one of our first computers.

My first KQ was 4, back in 1992... One day I come home from school to discover my dad unpacking this really big box. It turned out to be an Amiga 500, and it had all these games within the package, KQ4 being one of them.

The first time I played KQ4, I thought Rosella was really brave, and I (in my eight year old mind) really wanted to be like her  :) But, I could never pass the part where you had to go through that cave under the waterfall, because of that icky monster and that darkness *shivers at memory lol* or I would never go to the forest parts where that troll would unexpectedly come, and drag you away by your braids. I thought that was so horrible!  :'(

Anyways,  I moved to Uruguay in that year, bringing along the pc. I also played Colonel's Bequest back then(does anyone know how I can find a copy of this game now :( ?)

When I came back to Australia (in 1995), we left the computer back there, and so we bought another one. When I saw that the computer store in my suburb had KQ5, I was ecstatic. I begged my parents for it  ;D

About a year later, KQ7 came out, so naturally, I whined to my parents I wanted it hehehe. Then, the KQ collection came out, and when I got that, I was so happy to be able to play kq4 again. Then I finished it, and went along to finish all the others...

My faves though have to be (naturally hehehe) KQ4, 6, & 7... KQ3 I only finished this year in fact lol, 'cause i couldn't figure out a way to do things at the certain times... did anyone else have probs with that timer thingy? :-\ Since then I've played other adventure games, but apart from the Myst series, I didn't really like any others... back in 92, I read the sierra catalogues, and always wanted to play Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry, but I never did *sighs*

Ahh this is a long post... I'll leave it at that :)
C-ya,
Ashrie

My first KQ game was Kings Quest V, I was blwon away by the graphics and sound of that game.  Which is why I still have a soft spot for it, even though I do agree it was probably the cheapest KQ game (I mean, it had lods of puzzles and timed one-shot instances you HAD to react to or you'd be screwed).

Later on though I did play KQ IV, but by the nI was spoiled on a mouse-based interface. :P

I remember when I was about 7 there were a few computer games in my house I actually cared about; Kings Quest 5, Kings Quest 7, a broken Kings Quest 6, Laura Bow 2,  the 7th Guest, and the 11th Hour. I also remember my mom saying that KQ 6 was an amazing game and I had to play it. I tried for hours trying to get it to work. I think we were missing a disk, but that didn't stop me. It never did install (imagine that). I also remember seeing my brother play Laura Bow and thinking "that's cool", so then I played it...and beat it before anyone elese in my family got past act 1. I remember trying to get 7th Guest and 11th Hour to work (wonderful games for a 7 year old to be playing). They worked, I was confused and scared to death by both games. I had my parents helping me with it and I think I got one room open in 7th Guest and much much much later (like last year :P) I almost finished 11th Hour except I was stuck on the last puzzle. No one would help me with it and my mom didn't seem to understand that this was the LAST PUZZLE before I finished the game. Back on topic, My dad was playing KQ5 and I was hooked, the 1st screen I ever saw was the one with the crying tree. I loved that game and I played it and almost finished it in one day. I than played KQ7 which was wonderfully challenging enough so I could play it on my own, but not so easy I flew through the game with no self-worth. So I played KQ5 and 7 in quick succession. I was hooked and then spent all my money on other KQ games, collections, and mamy other things none of my friends had ever heard of. So there is a nice chunk of my life you now know about. :D

let's see. It was probably KQ1. But it might have been 4. Yeah. That was it. Because we got it from my uncle. And then it was 1,2, 3, and so on. We even got 8...eeeugh...
ah those were the days. Back when I only had the 1st space quest, first laura bow, first monkey island. and commander keen. hehehe.
My best friend only has KQ7, but i can forgive that because she has some other good games. I think she may have actually finished Myst. I always just watched her. I had no idea what the premise was.

Imo, KQ5 could not hold a candle to KQ6 and I really liked the original KQ1 on my IBM PCjr because it was the start of a 16 color adventure game playing 3 sounds at once on an internal speaker and running off a 5.25 inch drive that was a true floppy disk.  This was the start of the awesome KQ series which is being continued here -- thanks to the great staff at KQ9.  Go Team and produce the greatest King's Quest adventure ever!  8) !!!

Anywayz thats just my opinion :P

Heh, my first one was KQ7. I was at a friend's house and she was playing it (this was when I was 10 or so), and I tried it and looooved it. LOL, aw, I was a 10 year-old girl, what do you expect? ;)

Anyway, later I bought it myself and the 1-6 collection. The second one I played waaaas... well. Either 1 and 2, then 4, or 4 then 1 and 2. I loved 4 because, of course, I got to play a girl. :P And it was a really fun game! Had to look up hints for some stuff, though. 1 and 2 I thought were easy and short, except my computer was way faster than was required, so if I didn't have the movement turned WAY down, it took less than half a second for Graham to walk into some water somewhere and drown.  :dead:

KQ3 my sister beat, I didn't. :P Well, I was trying to mix the ingredients for one of the spells, and it wouldn't let me add the cactus, even though I knew it was needed. I figured it out later, but I had already lost interest and never got farther than walking down the mountain, that I can remember. By that time I had already played KQ6 which I LOVED as well.

KQ5 I finished once, I believe, but wasn't my favorite so I didn't play through it twice. I thought the owl was annoying. Although to this day my sister and I quote the whole water-nectar-of-the-gods line. Haha, we cracked up on that one everytime. XD

Played KQ8. like it OK for what it was, but it really was so different from 1-7 and didn't really include any of the traditional characters, so I didn't really consider it part of the same series. *I* wanted to know what happened to the royal family! Still, it's not like I have a death wish for Connor, lol! XD

First computer games I played was when I was, like, 5 and it was Packman and such. On those big, thin floppies, no less. :P The first one that made an impression was Chip's Challenge, and how I hate and loathe that game now! When I was 9 and I was really determined to beat it, and I did, but it was horrible, mind-numbing torture.  :dead: Ugh.

KQ9 was fun, but all the characters died and the puzzles were too easy and the graphics went back to 2D and the voices were way out of sync... oh wait, that was just a nightmare. :P

My first King's Quest was KQ2. I was 15 then, playing it the same time with LSL1, SQ1 and PQ1.
Then I played KQ3, KQ4, KQ1 and over the years, all the rest by the correct order.
I think that 6 is my favourite, too But the first ones had their special charm.

Guess what? King's Quest 1! I played them all in sequence! ;D It really was a treat to see the family story evolve.

I bought the 15th Anniversary Edition, containing games 1-6 and lots of other goodies, and I was determined not to start on the next game in the series even if I got hopelessly stuck somewhere. Let me tell you: I'm VERY happy that I did. Actually, I played both versions of KQ1 in parallell because the puzzles in the original stumped me a lot. KQ2 was easy in comparison.

My first was KQ2 on a Tandy with NO hard drive so I had to use a floppy disk to save my games. Little did I know that leaving your disk in the drive all year around was a BAD thing to do, I even gave that poor brave and hard working disk a funeral for helping me fall in love with Seirra games. :)

After part two I saw KQ4 had just come out and was surprised to see the lead was a woman. This was WAY before Lara Croft and I hadn't heard of Samus Aran yet. So I begged my mom to get it and from then on I got every Sierra game I could get my hands on *heh*

Yes I had used that floppy to play KQ1, 2, 3, & 4. SQ 1, 2, & 3 and Maniac Mansion. That disk had really toughed it out for me. It was a tradgic day when the disk became fully unusable and I was AMAZED to finally see just how many bad sectors a computer's magnetic feild could put on a disk. It was like some skin dieseas there VERY few usable good sectors left on it. I've never used a disk like that again, tough I had fried a few of those AOL cd's in the microwave those are always fun to abuse.  ;D ;D

Yep save game files back then at least weren't all that big. I'm also talking about the 3.25 disks which I have the bbad habit of calling "floppy" even though their not. I didn't have all the saves on at once I would erase saves that I didn't need as I played the games. Ahh memories of playing through that DAMN desert in SQ1 having to dodge all those rocks!

The original KQ2 was easy expcet finding out the fact that your only allowed to walk across thjat bridge a certain amount of times. I thought it was funny that wakling over a bridge kept racking me up points until *CRASH* Oops....

KQ3 was alot more challenging unless you make that Teleportation Stone which can teleport you ANYWHERE including RIGHT in front of the Dragon that has Rosella!! Talk about short cut, I didnt' even have to get on the pirate ship! I just kept teleporting until I was on top of the monutain! lol

It's not such a bad habit - 3.25" disks are also called "floppy". They may not be as floppy as the 5.25" ones, but they're still heck of a lot floppier than hard disks ;)

First KQ, huh?  Hmm, that's actually a tough one, for me.  I watched my dad play the first few way back before I understood the workings of the keyboard, lol.  Ah, Sir Graham in dynamic 16 colors.  Anyway, the first was I played was probably V, thought I may have attempted one and two, or even four (I can't for the life of me remember III, it may have been broken. But I played it later).  The first KQ (and video game) I owned was VI, the CD version in the white box, and it's still one of my favorite games.  For nostalgia's sake, it may be my favorite, but Final Fantasy III (VI in Japan) really gives it a run for it's money . . .

Hmm, both the sixth entry in a fantasy series . . .
And Return of the Jedi is traditionally my favorite SW film. . . odd.

Ah, KQVI. The glory days. First played in '94 on my state-of-the-art Gateway 2000 PC, on a CD-Rom nonetheless. Voices in video games? Who knew. My Dad was amazed when me and my brother told him what we were playing. He said he remembered playing up to III and getting stuck towards the end. Apparently he had been a video game fiend before I came along and then passed all his computer knowledge on to my older brother. Anyway, at the end of '94, we picked up KQVII and...to tell you the truth never got past the graveyard. We weren't big on walkthroughs. After finding KQ I+II on some old diskettes of my brother's friend, we played those for a while. Finnally, in '97, we picked up the Roberta Williams Anthology. I've never played VIII, and don't really feel the need to.

I got to start playing that when Dad would drag me to his office until midnight+. He stuck it on the secretary's computer, and I was happy until I fell asleep on the floor, curled up under the desk.

Then came 5, 6, 4, MoE, 1 & 2. I've still never played 3. I feel like a traitor or something. :P

But where does one get a game that old, anyway? I might wait until the remake comes out. I can type well enough... but I'm so lazy. Gotta love that mouse interface.

Well, I got the King's Quest Collection off of eBay. That includes all of the KQ games (MoE is not included). You might be able to get the individual game, but not sure if it will work on the new computers.

I always wanted the collection, but I never had the money and my dad was never in his office long enough to merit THAT.

My best friend used to have it. I wonder if he still does. We played the others together all the time, but he probably wouldn't like to play 3 with me. He's a control freak, but he can't type like I can. We played 4 together, and it was like pulling teeth getting him to give me the keyboard.

That's why I think it might be safer if we wait for the remake. I don't mind letting him keep his hand on the mouse; it makes him feel all important. Gotta indulge 'im.

*is falling off topic*
Actually, my first King's Quest ever was 5. I was over at a friend's house. And there was this tree with a harp and she was really a princess. I really wanted to make her a princess again, and then my friend said you had to get her heart from the forest and I went to the forest but kept getting killed by the witch. And I was sad. And then I went home and didn't play it again until I bought it myself years later, after I'd already played 7.

My first KQ game was KQ5, when I was 15. I know most of you started playing when you were younger, but I barely remember an old computer my parents had when I was a little kid, we got rid of it becasue we couldn't really do much with it. Then when I was 15 computers were all the rage, and my rents got one, but did not connect to the internet yet. I was in the mall in the store formerly called Babbages, and I saw King's Quest V for sale and really liked the look of it, so I got it. The puzzles kept me stumped for years. Guess I should have made some maps, especially of the desert. Later on I got KQ7, I loved it, such beautiful graphics, and I finished both games after getting hints online. Then...I got MOE and the KQ collection.

My first and fav. was KQ7 I started playing it when I was around five.
My dad loved Sierra games and had all the police quest, all the quest for glory's and all the Leisure Suit Larry's, all the Space Quests , all the conquests, all teh Laura Bow's, all the Kings Quest's and one gabriel knight, and many more. I grew up with Sierra games and my first and favourite chapter is two, in KQ7. I really loved Kings Quests and since have discovered several sites that are trying to keep the sierra spirit alive.

The first ever KQ game we had was KQIII; unfortunately we never got the manual so we never solved it either. I was very young back then; I used to love Mannannan (except when he killed poor Gwydion, whom we referred to as Larry at the time, since he looked just like him).

Then came KQIV. Oh, the horror! The giant dragging away Rosella by her braids gave me the screaming heebie-jeebies at my age (as did every other death scene in a Sierra game; scarred me for life).

KQV, at my age and with my trauma, was pure horror all over. Graham getting frogged, the desert, Mordack.... sleepless nights all over, baby.

KQVI wasn't a walk in the park for me either. The Underworld scenes alone scared the daylights out of me.

We later completed our collection with the KQ Collection (I-VI). At the time, I was horrified at my father buying something like that. My sister got to the Lord of the Dead in KQVI at one point... and horrifically enough, she found the death scene of getting touched by him hilarious. Geh.

Later, I got over my trauma for the most part, and decided the games weren't all that bad, and actually quite enjoyable. The aforementioned KQVI scene still gives me the creeps though.

KQVII I bought myself later on, and I enjoyed it greatly.

Being an avid action gamer as well, I even got KQVIII and even enjoyed that one, despite it not being worthy of the name.

Then a few years ago I even got KQIIVGA. Excellente!

And that brings us to the present, where I have gotten a part in KQIX. Funny how things turn out sometimes, eh?

KQ2 was my first...I'll never forget it also.  ;D

I remember before even playing the game reading the very creative manual that came with it that explained the story. That story got me hooked...and I've been an adventure game and role playing game fanatic ever since. Anything that is story based, or has lore, I will play just for that. I can honestly say it was because of the King's Quest series. And that was 20 years ago! That makes this latest release that much better.  :)

I think my first KQ was Kq3.
Every time I played it I fell several times of the mountain before I were of the mountain.
It was a lot of fun to see him fall, but it made it also frustrating game.

A normal person would know how to walk of a mountain whitout falling.
But I have played most of the games and had a lot of fun some time.
Till I deid again and again.

Mine was KQ4, I think.  When I was about six years old, I remember getting on my grandpa's computer, trying out all the programs, and I stumbled across King's Quest 4.  I loaded up a savegame, and there Rosella was, wandering around some dark, creepy house.  I was (and still am!) pretty jumpy, so I quit the game before I had a chance to die accidentally.  :D  It's a shame that I didn't give it a chance; I was such a fan of fairy tales back then!

The first King's Quest that I finished was KQ6, which I played many years later on our cr*ptastic computer in the basement.  Since then, I've played through all of them except for the original KQ1 and KQ2, and KQ3.

All right, my first quest was Kq1 (designed for PCjr) played on an early pc/Xt machine. Only had a monochrome amber monitor at the time so a few things were hard to find. Also was convinced that it was a fire breathing rabbit and not a dragon.

Actually I should claim the earlier Castle game programmed by the Williams' in DOS. Still have it to this day but don't have an operational early pc to play it on Dos 2.6 or 3.0. Might have to try to put it into Dosbox after I hook up an old 5.25" drive.

For those who don't know Castle was a game where you maneuvered through a castle with a well(healing)  and secret doors and passages. Had about 4 levels <<vertically>> if i remember correctly. Probably about 25-30 rooms/screens all told - Balconies, dungeons etc... All from a top down point of view. You were attacked by dangerous capital letters(Monsters) while you tried to find bits of the extended Ascii character set(treasures - remember the necklace?)

Sounds wierd I know, but this game came out 80-82ish if i remember correctly. I even remember using Norton's Utilities with some friends at the time to alter the castle maps. <<Probably 84>>

Anyway thats where I started on KQ & Sierra & the Williams.

The first kings quest I ever played was Kings Quest V. My dad was a huge computer guy and worked on them for a long time. I was maybe lets see 7 years old at the time? I'm 20 now. We used to buy all these adventure games and he had bought the original Kings Quest V but then we found out the CD version was released and I guess because it had voices he figured it'd be good to teach me how to speak since I had a speech disability at the time. I thought the game was great, and the voices were well done wish I still had the game. I have a regular disk version but it's not the same. The last kings quest I played was VII, I didn't like the style because it really didn't feel like kings quest. I am planning to get VI though and try it out since it's got those nice crisp VGA style graphics.

My first was KQVI, which I played on a computer at my stepdad's office when I was hanging out there one weekend 13 or so years ago. Never did get around that damn minotaur's maze. Then, when I was about 16, I bought a computer with earnings from a summer job and picked up the KQ collection along with a few other games to go with it. I thought I was so cool because my computer had a CD-ROM. No more silly floppies for me! I then set out beating all the KQs, save KQ3. Damn that stupid wizard! Seemed more omnipresent than Jehovah himself. I kept that computer for around 5 years until I willed it to my siblings when I joined the Army. The collection disappeared in a subsequent move, though. I think I ended up finding one of the disks wedged in the cushions of a couch when I was home on leave, but my siblings had upgraded Windows by then so I couldn't play 'em anyway. I've since bought another computer and now have to make do with some glitchy copies I found on the 'net. (Damn you, WindowsXP!) Come on VU! Enough with the delays already. I want my KQ Compilation!

KQVI which came pre-bundled in my very first PC, a Compaq Presario Pentium-75.

Space Quest IV was also included.

To think I would have never known the goodness that is King's Quest had it not been for Compaq's bundled software.

Side Note: I have played and beaten KQ's 1-7 but have never, ever, ever played King's Quest 8 and from all the commotion on this forum concerning the game, I probably never will.

Was Conner supposed to assume the throne of Daventry just as Graham did from Edward? The only reason I ask is because Alexander becomes King of the Land of the Green Isles and therefore cannot be Daventry's king.

Well, assuming you get the good ending.

So Rosella could have kicked Edgar to the curb and ended up being queen of daventry.

I will be interesting to see how TSL ties all of these loose end together.

My first KQ's had to be 1-4.

We all had them on the 5 1/4 floppies when I was young, and we tried to beat them, but couldn't.

Later, my dad found the KQ2 Hint Book he had (you know, the crappy ones you had to get the special marker to highlight only the clues you wanted?), and we beat that.  The we found the KQ3 one, but the ink was pretty faded.  So that one took a little longer (I think it's because we didn't see the pattern of the wizards' returns).

KQ6 we cheated on too XD.  Same with 1 and 5.  Well, who the hell DID figure out 1 without any hints?  And with 5, you were pretty much forced into everything or have to suffer much further into the game for it.

7 was the only one I beat entirely by myself.  Played the chapters out of order, but in the end I got it right.

Hey guys!( and gals!) I was just wondering how you first came to find KQ. For me it was probably about 8 or 9 years ago when my dad was cleaning out our attic/closet and he brought out a big old black box. I looked inside the box and found old games such as civilization, space quest ect..., but a bunch of games caught my eye. I asked my dad what they were and he told me they were KQ games. So after that he put one of them in our computer and showed me, and I since then I have been a fan ever since.

I played the original King's Quest 1 for the IBM PCjr when it came out when I was young.

Mine was King's Quest VI.  My cousin got me into it and I loved it so much I ventured at trying the other Games in the series.  The only one I have never touched is KQVIII

My parents bought me KQVI before I started school.  I played it over and over... And then when I made friends at school I brought them home and played it with them too!  Eventually, I bought the collection and played the rest.  Six is still my favorite... I wish I had a version now that would work on my XP.  I haven't played it since I owned a Windows 95... Hehe.  Don't even know where the disk is now.

My first King's Quest was King's Quest 6, although I didn't know exactly what to do, so I just kept jumping off the pier outside the Ferry's house.

After that, I watched my dad play every King's Quest game (and beating it), so I slowly got better. However, I only own 6 and 7.
