Last.fm "records" the music you listen to(whether online or local), creates statistics and graphs (http://www.last.fm/group/The%2BSilver%2BLining/charts) based upon this data, alters the music played on the TSL Last.fm station to better match the group's musical tastes(I think everyone wants to kick Aaron and me out because of that little detail :P), and has a forum (http://www.last.fm/group/The%2BSilver%2BLining/forum) to discuss music(or to take random quizzes, whichever the case may be ;P). It also has a few other very nice features... but those are the basics.
If you mainly listen to historical music(seen quite a bit of that in the "song of the moment" thread), no worries... you'll fit right in with Aaron and me. ;P
Oh, and I have on more thing to say... Farquhar and Zelly listen to Kidneythieves(they made music for Deus Ex: Invisible War)! XD
I already knew that, but felt the need to announce it. :P

The Journal section/tab is similar to a blog, but usually deals with music(due to the site's subject matter). Groups are like the TSL Last.fm group, Friends are kind of like contacts in messengers(it's more of a formality than anything, I don't think there is any actual change in status), and Neighbours are people who share your musical tastes.
3. You can join groups with similar interests to you(usually dealing with some sort of music). When it has 15 active members, the group gets its own online radio station(which requires broadband :P). This includes stats/charts for the group, and a group message board. Example Group (http://www.last.fm/group/The%2BSilver%2BLining)

Then there are some nice "extras" like being able to put your chart(s) in your signature, on your website, or wherever you find to place the code.
