Title: Loud Music / Headphones
Post by: Yonkey on October 30, 2003, 09:30:28 PM
I pulled a few all nighters in first year.  Not because of studying, it was because the roomate I had would play music until 6 AM, when I had to wake up at 7 AM the next day.  The bass through the wall wasn't very loud, but irritating enough that I couldn't sleep.  >:(  He would only do it once a week, but still I would tell him to turn it down and two weeks later he'd do the same thing!   >:(  >:(

I know, should have called the residence people and complained.   ::) The thing was, I just moved into that residence because I didn't like the previous one I was in (or that roomate either, but for different reasons).  I was thinking maybe I was just being too picky and decided to live with it.

Anyway, the place I'm staying now is very quiet.  My neighbour plays music sometimes, but I told her from day one to not play anything after 12 because of the problems I had with that other dude.  She was cool with it and I've never had a problem! ;D

That's good. Though I tend to be kind of like that one guy who turns his music up a bit loud sometimes. I figure I'm all by myself in the room, but the wall insulation is terrible so any semi-loud sounds can be heard two or three rooms away. And my subwoofer is a bit loud, but I have a hearing problem and can't hear the bass well so I have it turned up a bit high sometimes. So I reverted back to my headphones, which are almost better quality than my speakers (Koss headphones rock! :)).

When I get my own house, I'm going to install a soundproof room so I can play my music as loud as I want in there.

Oh yeah, I like blasting music too.  ;D  That's kind of why I feel hypocritical when I ask people to turn theirs down.   ::)But I think blasting it after 12am was just rude, especially when it was a Sunday night (as opposed to a Friday or Saturday).

But yeah, headphones are fun to blast music in at any time of the day/night hehehehe.   :suffer:

I used to live in a building which was mostly empty for the better part of the week. Back than I used to blast music at all hours, day & night.
I figured, if it bothers anyone they can just knock on my door and tell me to turn it down. That's what I did when THEY were too loud  ::)

Now I live in an apartment building and don't even have a stereo  :(
But Sony headphones rock even better than Koss  :D

Well, since I already commented on the sleep issue, I'll go for the music issue. ;D

The only time I blare my stereo/computer is during the times when my ears are blocked up yet again, so having stuff be really loud is the only way I can hear it. :P When my ears are clear I keep things at a reasonable level.

I use headphones for playing games and listening to music on my computer when my roommate is home. The rest of the time, I prefer to listen without headphones... sounds better that way, plus I don't have to stay in one spot while listening.

Peace & Luv, Liz

I love my headphones, just because when Im working or dont want to be disturbed it helps me get away from everything else (aka family, dogs, doorbell, phone, etc)

I don't know how long I can 'still) stay awake (safe). Although I have discovered that when I'm doing something in an acitve way (not passive) it would seem I can delay drowsy feelings for a while. I've had nights when I think I didn't sleep, although I was lying in my bed, but I might have dozed of for a micro-sleep, I can't tell that for sure, although I usually don't do microsleeps.

As far as music is concerned, the only time when I turn the volume up is when I'm in my car. Don't do it in house (at least not up the point it irritates the other people living in this house). To disturb my neighbours, I'd have to turn the volume up really loud, at both sides there's some trees/bushes inbetween to decrease the volume.
Headphones? I have a pair of Sony headphones lying around somewhere in my room, being useless.

Just send him your music, he'll listen on his headphones and narrate the music to you as he's listening. ;)

The only reply I have to Marilyn Manson is - he's a FREAK!!!!
But then again so am I  :P
So that's a good thing ;D

Music - it's all about my headphones.  I have large, cushy studio quality headphones and the highs, mids and lows sound so good that I never want to use anything else.  Unless of course I want to get up and dance.  Then I switch to my stereo.  But I don't do much dancing (as the ever expanding mini-buddah belly can attest to).

I think when I replied to this, it got splitted into that thread I hate ;P "the curves of happyness" lol

but getting into this current topic as I said I do love to work and just put my headphones listen to music and forget about the world, It does helps me to not worry about what goes around me but to concentrate on the things Im doing and what I have on my mind, since you know how it is at home... omg do this omg phone omg that :P

If I'm at home I like to blast the 5.1 setup with the meaty Sub woofer, makes music sound 10 times better. If I'm anywhere else though I just use earphones, that way you can hear all the little tiny details on tracks you miss when you listen to them on speakers. Knowing me I'll probably be one of those people who keeps everyone else up with their music at uni :P

At work the radio's always on. But, since I'm not alone in that room, there's no using headphones. And loud music is out too, at least when the boss is in his office, only a few feet away. On days when he's not in, and there's not a lot of other personnel around either, on some occasions we might put it a bit loud though. :P

I had one office job with absolutely no music and it was soooooooo boring.  I was literally falling asleep at the keyboard.  But that may have been because I would finish work too quickly and never have stuff to do.  ;D

I've had music at most of my previous jobs and I find that it keeps my mind somewhat active, even if it's not my favourite.  Of course, it's never loud or it would be too distracting.   :)

No, can't be. ::) But, working without radio on takes all the fun out of your day. I know, I had to endure several months with my boss in the same room and without music (although that could also have been due to my boss's presence. :) )

doctor cat examines Say... Yes, most definitely a case of too little radio.
Radio(music) helps me relax. And being distracted from work can sometimes be a good thing (if it doesn't last too long). It helps to 'rearrange' my thoughts.
